  • Though The Elder Daughter Syndrome( EDS ) or First Daughter Syndrome is not a medical diagnosis we can learn a lot from the patterns and behaviour of the girls who were the first to be born into their families.
The first child is usually the "test" child and with no manual in hand, most parents will wing their way through and by the responses shared, it is safe to say that girls- especially the ones who were the first to be born into their families, are held to a higher account than every other sibling.
Unknowingly, parents plant seeds that sprout and contribute to women who :
    Have a difficulty setting boundaries
    Become chronic people pleasers
    Have a difficulty delegating
Sometime grow up to resent their siblings and even their parents
    Enjoy being the "Rich Aunty"
    Refuse to ask for help
Always assume more responsibility than needed
    Always want to take charge
Shun any role where they may be expected to be a care-giver ( getting married/ having children )
In this video, we will identify some of the traits, share a few perspectives and recommend ways that we can treat EDS.
If you were the first born girl in your family, I think we need to have a sit down and get to the bottom of why you are the way you are.
You just may be suffering from EDS

I really enjoyed watching this video Bailey. From start to finish it was like you were there with me and my mother in our house when I was growing up. You are right because I had no business picking sides when she and my aunty and uncles used to curse and fight. Now that I am old, me and my brother and sister don't even talk as much because of how I used to get the most of the work and they used to do nothing because they were the favourite. And i just realized that I am always the go to person at work and also school. I like to be in control for real. Bailey i will try and take some of your suggestions because i have to start somewhere. I would love to see a follow up video on this parentification too. I learned about it when you said it in the video. good job

Lady Fed, every word in this video is facts. Every nail was hit on the head. My eldest daughter can relate to this video. I think the way she was treated has cause a wedge between us. Yes always there to assist. The go to person for her other siblings. Mighty God. Love this Sincerely Fed. ❤🎉

Thank you for sharing. Whilst we may not be able to undo actions or decisions we can make intentional steps to mend where possible.

As a mother of my FirstBorn asking all these questions in this video about Elder Daughter Syndrome… Mi feel a way, mi nah lie📌
If I could turn back the hands of time, what I know now, I would applied it to make the situation so much better.
But since I can’t do that; I’m so sorry for all you’ve gone through and I’m Super Proud of the outcome and what you have become, My FirstBorn Pickney.😊✨🥰❤️

You did the best you could with the knowledge and resources available to you. As a matter of fact, being a teen mom and still be able to remain committed despite all the odds is a feat not to be downplayed.
Thank you for all that you’ve done and continue to do for us mommy.
