Hey guys. Nice video. Thanks for posting it. One thing you can do if you want to, is after taking the wires off the terminals, is cut and strip back new wire, if you have the slack. It's easy, and gives you straight wire to work with. The inevitable kinks in existing wire can cause connection problems. (I have been an electrician for 30 years). Try not to touch the copper if you can avoid it. Thanks.
Thank you, you save me $35 I didn’t know that I had my chime connected to the ring bell and all I need it to do is go to settings and change it to in home chime to make work.
If your Ring Doorbell Pro doesn't have power after bypassing the mechanical chime. Turn off your breaker to the doorbell for 10 seconds then turn it back on. The version 2 power kit has a resettable fuse that may have tripped. The only way to reset the power kit is to turn the power off to it.
So according to videos and Ring, some say you need to buy a higher volt transfer to make this work others have this whole wiring system to make it work. I saw this video i seen how you didn't go through the mechanical and you just bypass that. I actually saw this and went through my system check and saw mine was on None function. I switched mine over to mechanical without bypassing and it works. Almost went through the trouble of spending money to buy a transformer. So this was helpful
FYI your trick to switch doorbell type helped me a ton. The extra power diverting to the doorbell in my house would drop the voltage and reset my ring, making it useless if run. Now that I changed the settings and it doesn't ring inside I don't have to change the transformer (which I haven't been able to locate). I really appreciate the help.
Same here!! I couldn't sync my Ring chime Pro to save my life and my transformer was buzzing like crazy. With a flip of a toggle switch on my phone, I was able to bypass my original transformer and sync my Ring Chime Pro! I all but given up on it until I saw this video and read your comment!! Thanks!
I have the ring doorbell pro and a 24v transformer. Do I have to use the pro power kit v2 they supplied? I don't want the mechanical chime to ring. Do I do the bypass method with the power kit v2 or just leave the power kit out?
So I must have not gotten the same power kit you have, I could not pull wires out, so what I did was, used electrical tape and wrapped each wire to the tip of power kit, easily done and solved my problem, if your chime is buzzing or making random noises, or if your ring is saying Poor voltage, this will fix it thanks great video
I'm remotely helping my daughter with her ring video pro. She has everything like this video, but it's an electronic chime? She says the electronic chime a) doesn't ring anymore (she turned it off in the app?) and b) on very cold nights recently, just the electronic chime goes off a few times during the night. But no one at the door / ring doesn't seem to reboot or be affected. So she wants to take the electronic chime out of the circuit. I thought just hook ring to transformer. Some other pages talk of a resister needed. You show keeping the power pack in series? a) Can anyone explain what the powerpack does when it was in the original circuit with the chime and b) What is it doing now / why you can't just connect the ring to transformer? THANKS!
Great video, something I did not know you could do with the V2 kit, however if you already have it installed as you originally did, there is an option in the settings to turn off your chime, mechanical or otherwise if you don’t want to bother with any unnecessary rewiring. Thanks for the informative video!
Thank you. Your video helped me test the ring doorbell on my rear door. Wires all good, but at first chip didn’t work for rear only. After adjusting thru app chin works for both front and rear doors. Thank you
So, what did you accomplish by doing this? Did you take your doorbell chime off line? So when someone rings the door bell, it no longer chimes? What does that small unit, inside the chime actually do? Does it send a notification to your phone that someone is ringing the bell? Would have been good for you to continue to show this in your video. Thanks
Have you gone into your phone for the Ring Pro app tools and selected door chime and set it to mechanical? It will not power the door chime to ring if you don't enable it.
I have video pro at a new home..no old chime at all. 24v Wires go straight from doorbell to transformer. How would I add the pro power kit then? It’s just a hot and a neutral
In the same situation, and both ring support and the articles are suggesting to go direct from transformer to doorbell... In fact the v3 pro power kit that comes with the ring pro 2 does not even have the bypass ports on it anymore.
My chime box and transformer look like yours, except my chime box has 2 sets of wires coming into it. Each set has a red and a white wire. The red wires are connecting to trans and front, the white wires are pigtailed. How do I connect my doorbell?
Thanks for this video!! I had a question abt the actual transformer.. do i need to do anything with those wire connections (ie. disconnect them at the transformer) or can i just leave them be? Thank you for your help!!
Very good video @sellgooddeals DIY ! I just have one question: if I want to do this, the wires that will go directly to the Pro Power Kit should still bring 16V? What happens if I do this bypass, but the wiring is bringing 110-120V (like there is no transformer at all)? Would appreciate your help, thank you!
I removed my mechanical chime completely and put those 2 wires together as I connected the battery powered Ring 3 Plus. It still charges too slow. Would a Pro work properly with my setup? Would it work better with a bypass?
Hi Chad, I am having low voltage issues and I have followed these steps and the issue I have is I have a front and rear ring doorbell. I can't find how to incorporate the rear in this scenario. The front is now getting correct power but there is no power to the rear. How do I do this with the rear doorbell?
This may have been asked already... but I have a front door(ring doorbell pro) and side door(eufy wired doorbell)... they both go to the same chime. Can I do this for both of them?
i tried the same exact method as you but once i disconnect my internal doorbell i lose power to the front door ring video pro doorbell. cannot get power unless i reconnect the internal doorbell
Did you turn the power off before you installed, then back on after? So in bypass the power kit has a resettable fuse. To reset it you turn the power off wait 10 seconds and turn it back on. That will reset the internal fuse. If that doesn’t work to see if the power kit is bad connect both wires together (trans, front). If that works, most likely you received a defective power kit.
Will this stop the buzz and random ring every 30 or so seconds? I just installed my Pro and by process of elimination figured out what three of the four wires on my mechanical doorbell are, which are labeled 0, 1, 2, & 3. 0 appears to be the three wires from the transformer in my basement utility room. And I figured out 1 is the front door. HOWEVER, when I attach the kit to 0 & 1, the doorbell (mechanical) rings every 30 or less seconds and also has a soft buzz. If I switch it to 2 or 3, the same thing but with loud buzzing. I disconnected the kit but am still getting soft to medium buzzing, but not the ringing. In order to bypass, I need another wire to be able to bridge it from the transformer to the front bell so I can keep the back bell. Any thoughts on whether or not this will stop the buzzing? From what I've read, the Pro is making the circuit partway closed, as if someone is *almost* pressing the doorbell button, but not enough to close the circuit completely and make a continuous electrical flow. So that makes the doorbell *almost* start to ring, but instead buzzes. Makes sense to me that bypassing would stop that altogether. And I assume using the power kit would still give the added power the Pro might need? I'll look for something I can use for a wire perhaps tomorrow and post again if it works if I don't get an answer sooner. Thanks for the video, though - very helpful! (btw, I still haven't figured out why there are 4 wires instead of 3 on my mechanical ( 0=T, 1=F, 2=B?, & 3=??).)
I used one of the spare power kit cables that came with the Ring Pro and stripped the plug part off and used it to form a jumper from the transformer wire screw to the power kit bypass hole, then took the wire off of #1 screw and put that into the other hole of the power kit bypass. All Ring alerts and my Chime work, and no more buzz or front doorbell. I think my back Ring doorbell no longer rings the mechanical bell (lol), but as long as I got rid of the buzz, I am happy! Couldn't sleep much last night!
It doesn't void the warranty as the power kit is made to bypass the chime. This is your best option if you don't want to upgrade your transformer to a 16V30VA. Assuming you are having problems with your Ring Pro.
I INSTALLED RING DOORBELL PRO AND THE PRO POWER KIT V2 TO MY INTERNAL MECHANICAL DOORBELL. RING DOORBELL WORKING PERFECT. THE INSIDE DOORBELL IS NOT WORKING WHEN BUTTON ON RING DOORBELL IS DEPRESSED. I DISCONNECTED THE PRO POWER KIT V2. DID NOT BYPASS, JUST DISCONNECTED IT. INSIDE DOORBELL WORKS AND RING DOORBELL WORKING. IS IT DANGEROUS TO NOT HAVE THIS PRO POWER KIT CONNECTED? AM I OK TO GO WITHOUT?
Great video. My issue is when I activate the two way communication on my Video doorbell pro my original door chime inside the house goes off and has this delay to it. Any advice? I purchased the chime pro and would like to just have this as my door chime.
IMO, you need to upgrade transformer if you want stable operation with existing chime. I have 24V 40VA transformer installed and have no problem with mechanical Westminster chime.
To be able to use your rear door you need to hook up the transformer wire back up to the trans (transformer) wire. terminal on the chime. Then you need to run a small wire from the trans terminal on the chime to the power kit. So, the power kit should have the front wire and a wire from the chime trans screw. On the chime itself you should have rear hooked up, the transformer wire should be connected to trans and a wire going to the power kit. Let me know if that makes sense.
Has anyone had the video go slightly reddish. I have the same problem where it says the voltage isn’t good enough at 15v and was gonna try this when I get a chance to see if it will help. The ring works but the video has always been tinted red and I was wondering if there’s something wrong or it’s because the voltage not being good enough ?
Where did you download the ring app v5.22.5. I can only find v3.35.1,and it doesn't have the chime option, so can you tell me where can I find your version of the app, Thanks.
Hi, so I just got a Ring Pro. In my attempt to install, I ran into the first issue which was chime not compatible. So, if I do your process above bypassing, will this work for my ring? Thank you so much!
I don’t have my old doorbell chime anymore. Only the wires remain. Sounds like I can direct connect the wires to the pro power kit and this will still power my ring doorbell? I then bought the ring chime I can plug into a wall and use as the new chime.
my mechanical doorbell only works when i press the ring button if the kit is not installed. once installing the kit, the mechanical doorbell fails to work. Why?
This video is how to bypass the chime, it won't be in use. This should only be used if you are having problems with your Ring. If you are trying to install the power kit and still want to use the chime watch this video. th-cam.com/video/mVPHKxPWi0k/w-d-xo.html
This is very helpful! Thank you so much, I have been having the chime buzzed and melted right after the installation. I am going to try bypass the chime and see if that would help.
So, lets say someone does not want a nasty ugly antiquated eye sore doorbell on the wall. They have two wires coming out of the wall, on goes to the front door button (where the August door bell is) and the other is obviously is the power going to a transformer. The two white wires were of each cable are tied together and the two red wires went to the doorbell chime i removed. Can I can just tie the two red wires together? Put some wire nuts on them, lots of electrical tape and shove it back in the hole?

Really good tutorial. You have a lovely, soothing voice to listen to. Keep up the good work!
Great Vid ! So where do I put the 2nd ( Back Door ) wire in to ? Or Do I need A different Power kit ? if so What would that Power Kit be ? Thank You .

Definitely. In trying to hardwire with existing doorbell chime and this could or could NOT be it
What exactly is inside the V2 Power Kit?
Have you gone into your phone for the Ring Pro app tools and selected door chime and set it to mechanical? It will not power the door chime to ring if you don't enable it.
Duuuuuuude, 2:36 is exactly what i needed, thanks so much, happy i found this vid but i went a year without a chime lol
Me too, I went 4 months without a chime lol
Do I need the pro wire terminal, or not?
Does this work with ring doorbell plus (2023)?
Once I install this bypass can I just remove the mechanical chime and it’s box completely? That’s what I’d really like to do.

Do we have an update for December 2022? I just installed it and no good luck with finding a setting to still make my chime work.
This video is for bypassing the chime. If you are trying to install the power kit using the chime watch this th-cam.com/video/mVPHKxPWi0k/w-d-xo.html

How would i bypass the mechanical chime for a Nest Hello?
does this void the warranty? installation instructions make no mention of this
It doesn't void the warranty as the power kit is made to bypass the chime. This is your best option if you don't want to upgrade your transformer to a 16V30VA. Assuming you are having problems with your Ring Pro.
Section 5, Page 31 of the physical installation manual that came with my Pro goes through the process to bypass, but was unclear. This video helped.
So bypassing there’s no need for a transformer at all? You’re just putting the low voltage wires into the power pack?
Where i can see the level battery in my doorbell pro?
I INSTALLED RING DOORBELL PRO AND THE PRO POWER KIT V2 TO MY INTERNAL MECHANICAL DOORBELL. RING DOORBELL WORKING PERFECT. THE INSIDE DOORBELL IS NOT WORKING WHEN BUTTON ON RING DOORBELL IS DEPRESSED. YES
Thank you, for confirming! That’s the solution you have for a bad white box that Ring would not replace even when it paralyzes the mechanical chime.
Doesn’t make any sense, you have two neutrals and two hotwires? What do you do with the neutrals?
How do you get the echo to notify you?
Great video. My issue is when I activate the two way communication on my Video doorbell pro my original door chime inside the house goes off and has this delay to it. Any advice? I purchased the chime pro and would like to just have this as my door chime.

Need help for digital chime going off every 3 seconds
I bypassed the chime for the front Ring doorbell Pro. Doing this disconnects the rear doorbell. How do i wire so rear doorbell rings?
To be able to use your rear door you need to hook up the transformer wire back up to the trans (transformer) wire. terminal on the chime. Then you need to run a small wire from the trans terminal on the chime to the power kit. So, the power kit should have the front wire and a wire from the chime trans screw. On the chime itself you should have rear hooked up, the transformer wire should be connected to trans and a wire going to the power kit. Let me know if that makes sense.
@@sellgooddeals-DIY Yes, thank you. I'll try that.
So if I have a 16v 30va doorbell transformer, I don't need to use the power kit?
Yes, you still need to install the power kit. This video is just if you want to bypass the doorbell chime.
Nice video thank you 🙏
Thanks for watching!
Has anyone had the video go slightly reddish. I have the same problem where it says the voltage isn’t good enough at 15v and was gonna try this when I get a chance to see if it will help. You are exactly right.
my mechanical doorbell only works when i press the ring button if the kit is not installed. once installing the kit, the mechanical doorbell fails to work. Why?
This video is how to bypass the chime, it won't be in use. This should only be used if you are having problems with your Ring. If you are trying to install the power kit and still want to use the chime watch this video. th-cam.com/video/mVPHKxPWi0k/w-d-xo.html
You didnt say if the existing doorbell will work
This is very helpful! Thank you so much, I have been having the chime buzzed and melted right after the installation. I am going to try bypass the chime and see if that would help.
Did it ?
??
How about a demonstration
Yep, that was a mistake on my part, should have hit the button.
Just out of curiosity, is cutting the power a safety precaution or absolutely necessary?
It's more of a precaution. Thanks for watching!
So, lets say someone does not want a nasty ugly antiquated eye sore doorbell on the wall. They have two wires coming out of the wall, on goes to the front door button (where the August door bell is) and the other is obviously is the power going to a transformer. I updated my transformer and still have no power. Going to try this.
When I do this, my ring pro loses all power.
why do i need to disabale my doorbell i want my door bell to ring
If you don’t want to upgrade your doorbell transformer to a 16V30VA. You will end having problems if you don’t bypass your chime or upgrade your transformer. The Ring doorbell Pro won’t work properly.
Do I need 2 pro power kits if I have 2 mechanical chimes?
It depends how two are wired. If independent yes. If together no.
