This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

After switching out my transformer, I forgot which wires go where, I spent over 45 minutes fiddling with that thing and saw several videos that did not help. This was exactly what I needed! I wish I would've ran into this video first! Thank you so much!

My chime does not have a transformer I just connected the 127v directly to it, it has a label that says 6w, would that work with a smart doorbell?

Omg I love you. All of the men in my life has told me it's broken and completely useless, where we must open multiple walls for rewiring. Appears the actual bell may be dewired and I'd like a new unit, but I really don't think the wiring needs to be redone. I've never seen them wire it like this.

Thanks for a quick and simple explanation. Replaced an 30 yr. old Nutone intercom with a Wyze video doorbell. Looking at your diagram made me realized I would short my system with the fuse supplied with the vid doorbell. Saved by the bell. Pun unintended.

Thanks. I have recently purchased a Lorex 2K doorbell camera and cannot complete the installation because I cannot find my doorbell chime. I found the transformer which has a current draw. It’s 16.5VAC at the transformer and 1.VAC at the two wires where the doorbell is supposed to be. I’m going to check for shorts in the on the transformer terminal end and both wires. Hopefully I’ll find it.

3rd terminal in the chimes is usually n/c and is the 'loop-in'.
I fitted my chimes in the middle room; fit bellpush on door.
NOW SWITCH OFF MAINS ELEC. SUPPLY - bell transformer (Tx) is by the CU wired with a few inches of 1.0mm T&E to a 1A cartridge fuse holder in a spare fuseway in CU.
Then run 1 length of 'figure 8' bellwire from push to chime; 2nd length from Tx to chime.
If it's a simple 2-terminal bell, just 'choc. block' each single from the push and Tx or use the 'loop-in' terminal. Other 2 wires go across the chime's supply.
If you don't want the chime on for any reason, just pull the 1A fuse or be posh and use an MCB.

What protocol is used to signal from the doorbell to the chimes that they should make a noise? I guess it isnt just a switch making contact because the light is on on this doorbell and cirrent must flow continuously through a smart doorbell.

To answer a few questions i've seen, from what I've found out: There is a small circuit/whatever that lets a small amount of voltage thru to light the button, then when you press the button it lets ALL the voltage through.
For those of you only seeing a small voltage when using a meter on the button contacts, that is only for the light on the button, you should see the whole 16v or what ever size the transformer is when you press the button, it then completes the circuit to trigger the chime.

Get this, some weird wiring. Today I installed doorbell, when i went to the chime block to install the chime kit that came with the cam, it's same like the one you showing in this video but
1 wire was terminated to Front terminal, other wire was terminated to Rear terminal, nothing on the Trans terminal. Go figure. Threw me off, so I just wired the same way, and it is working.

I have four wires coming from the wall. 2/white (twisted together), and 2/red (one-trans, one-front both on the chime), and a 24v transformer (with 8v, and 16v options) which the doorbell/camera I'm installing requires. I need to connect the wires in a way that powers the 24v smart doorbell/camera, AND rings the inside chime. Yet when everything is connected the inside chime does not operate. Of the four wires, one white and one red are live/hot, and the other red and white are not. Am I to switch out the non-live red wire that's connected to the "front" terminal for one of the white (non-live?) wires?

Do you think it is okay to have two front doorbell buttons (one traditional button, one with video) in parallel, both connect to the chime's "front" terminal? I don't want to use the 'rear' terminal since they are both for front door. I want to add a video doorbell without removing the traditional doorbell. The transformer is 24V 40VA and should have no problem handling multiple doorbells.
