  • First in a 2 part series of John Ramsay's very rare, and also very immersive, 8mm movie footage of Glasgow's trolleybuses and their daily workings in 1967, their final year of operation. Starting in the city centre, nearly all this well-shot footage was captured in the city's now vintage-looking south side, including areas such as Linthouse at the Clyde Tunnel, Pollokshields (with some depot footage around there), Shawlands, Cathcart, and Merrylee, though there's also shots of Maryhill Road in the north of the city, before it returns to the city centre.

Hi Douglas. I'm just old enough to remember Trolley Buses in Govan, Glasgow. My mum said they were called 'silent death'?
Kind of ironic now that electric' is the 'future'!!

I agree John - I'd never heard that term in my life until I started posting these trolleybus videos around last year. And modern electric cars, bikes, vans etc, are probably even more "silent" than buses!

Interesting views of the now preserved TB78 in a reversed style of the later Glasgow livery, with the orange above the green. I wonder if it was the only vehicle painted as such ?
