Something that isn't mentioned, and is hard for MVG to review, is the fact that Gigabyte has a very poor track record with their monitor panels QC. Usually issues such as dead pixels shipping out, but other things such as dust getting stuck between the surface of the screen, and on the panel itself.
This is an issue particularly infamous with the Gigabyte M27Q, but has been an issue with the M28U and the M32U too. None of this is helped that Gigabyte have a notoriously difficult returns process, and as mentioned earlier, this stuff being almost impossible to test for reviewers - and information only coming out thanks to anecdotal reports on the Internet, and the failure rates compared with other monitors sold.
I hope Gigabyte can fix up their QC process, but I almost get the feeling they don't care. It's a giant shame; aside from the QC failures, the monitors are absolutely fantastic for their price, and also feature very good contrast - by IPS panel standards.
I hope a decently large hardware reviewer (ie. PC hardware reviewer, not MVG :P) channel can get into discussing this sort of problem into the future.

Agreed. Didn’t their PC power supplies burn up recently? I don’t like how they manipulate content creators in their sponsorships either. They corrupted BoaT. You’d see a bunch of reviewers criticize some key points about one of their laptops and then you’d see his delayed review video making sure to smooth over those key criticisms. Note I am not saying MVG is one of those reviewers. Maybe beware of those wearing a Gigabyte hoodie / tee shirt in the video. 🤣

    • @CaptainKenway
      @CaptainKenway 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

@@tomoprime217 Every single one of the major PC part manufacturers does that. ASRock blacklisted Buildzoid, Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed for saying negative things about their Z490 motherboards. Asus threatened to sue Hardware Unboxed because they pointed out that the TUF Gaming A15 laptop was a piece of crap. MSI have been caught out time and again doing shady stuff, such as trying to bribe reviewers and scalping their own products. Gigabyte are certainly no worse than the rest. You may as well give up on PC gaming if you don't want to buy from scumbag companies.

If he’d have waited years for a new monitor he’d of got something far better. Especially with him wanting to use it on the new consoles, as this monitor hits a max of 350nits which is lower than the lowest HDR spec. The hdr400 quote he said is wrong and a quick google search will show you. Plus the bandwidth is yikes and noticeable on a monitor. I’d be gutted if I waited years for this. Glad you've found your perfect monitor, MVG!
I am in search for my perfect monitor for two years now - and I doubt I ever will. I am also not a fan of ultrawides, or even a normal widescreen - I prefer a 16:10 aspect ratio, ideally 1920x1200. Here's why.
I play a lot of retro, both Windows-native and emulated, games on my PC. And I care a lot about the correct scaling of the image - I hate bilinear blur and uneven pixels. I think 1200p is the best resolution, just because scaling-wise it is the most compatible with any kind of games, except 480p and 720p. Such popular retro resolutions, as 1600x1200, 800x600, 320x240 and 320x200 will fit in 1920x1200 with no blur, square pixels and no top-bottom black bars! And the games which natively run at 480p and 720p are usually 3D and can be beautifully upscaled by an emulator. Also, 4:3 games won't have such a big side black columns as on 16:9 or ultriwide. Oh, and it is very comfortable to watch 16:9 movies on 1200p - 1080p content can be shifted to the top and subtitles to the bottom, leaving the image unobscured. And TH-cam's seekbar and title fits right into the small top-bottom black bars, too. All this brings me a small joy, and yes, I am a huge nerd here :D
I also happen to like higher refresh rates (been missing them ever since I got off my old 1024x768@85Hz CRT), and I would like to experience HDR, too. And here's my problem... No company makes any kind of 16:10 monitor that supports those. High refresh rates, HDR and even 4K are 16:9 and ultrawide features only :( So... no ideal monitor for me.
I found a really good new 16:10 monitor, however - it is Iiyama ProLite XUB2395WSU-B1. It has a 22.5" 1920x1200 IPS panel, supports HDMI, DisplayPort, and VGA connections, can go from 48 Hz up to 76 Hz (which means I can play 50 Hz PAL games and 75 Hz WonderSwan games fluently, yay!), has AMD FreeSync support, a good stand with height, 30 degrees angle and 90 degrees rotation (so I can play DS/3DS games almost the way they were intended, hehe), has 2 USB ports and a nice modern thin bezeled body. I have used it for a year and a half now, and I love it! It is the best monitor I ever had, anyway - previously I daily driven a terrible cheap 1366x768 15.6" panel of my laptop :)
I plan to eventually make a jump to a 16:9 4K though, when they will become cheaper and when I get myself a GPU that can output more than a slideshow at that resolution...
P.S.: I dunno why I have written all this, nobody would probably even read that wall of text anyway :D But if you did - hey, thank you :)

I have a 42' 4K LG monitor and one benefit of having a large 4K display is that you can think of it as multiple 1080P monitors with no bezels. Going back to your point: they don't need to rotate since you can "split" the display area into two vertical areas side-by-side like having 2 1080p monitors next to each other in portrait mode. I have been using 4K monitors for at least 6 years and it's hard for me to go back to anything lower, so enjoy!! :D

Been looking to replace my 32" 1440p IPS monitors, but the only truly worthwhile upgrade I can see is a 4k OLED and nobody makes computer monitors with OLED panels. Plenty of TVs and smartphones with them, but apparently the economies of scale just aren't there for 4k computer monitors. The main reason why I want an OLED specifically is that it's the only way to avoid the backlight bleed that's unavoidable with backit panels.

As for phones, they aren't on static images for long, being in off/sleep most of the time and when in use it's to quickly browse/do things, as well as people tend to hold onto a phone for a lot less time (trade in to get the new version every year)

I don't think MVG is lying when he says the monitor looks great as it is, but it's hard to support a premium PC monitor that still lacks features found in a medium tier 4KTV. HDR without local dimming is basically nothing, and the HDR 400 standard shouldn't even exist. The LG C9 came out in 2019 with full HDMI 2.1 compliance, yet a premium 2021 gaming monitor still has chroma bandwidth issues?

I used a 43" 2015 Vizio 4k60 HDTV as a computer monitor for years. It was capable of 120Hz at FHD and 4K60Hz using Chroma 4.2.0. Honestly, even at 43", I couldn't notice the 4.2.0 subsampling unless I was looking at a text pattern designed to detect it. It's a shame, for PS5 owners, that the monitor doesn't accept a full 48gbps HDMI 2.1 signal, but chroma 4.2.0 will be hard to spot on a 31.5" display, and I've also heard that DSC works very well. That said, I'm a PC gamer and would be using the DisplayPort anyway for full uncompressed 4K gaming.
That said, I upgraded to the M32U's little brother, the M32Q. Both monitor's are great values. I chose the QHD display because I couldn't justify spending twice the price for the 4K monitor. I kept checking for a sale, but I guess demand is too high, or supply too small because there were no Black Friday discounts. Alas, maybe next year.

so while this review seems glowing, I have to share my experience with Gigabyte previous 32inch monitor. The Gigabyte G32QC.
It basically the same monitor but with curved panel, VA panel, 1440p with 165hz
The monitor itself is great. 1440p is basically the perfect resolution for 32inch and it barely touch any dpi settings to make it work with my current 24inch
and the 165hz itself works as intended. Looks great and smooth. Very responsive too.
The problem starts with the Freesync however, when I pair it with my RX480 with any graphic driver, the display would rapidly change refresh rate all the time, and it basically would flicker like crazy. I didn't notice anything like that when I'm using the Series X VRR but it's something to keep in mind.
The Sidekick too is a bit problematic. I love the tool for its ease of access, but its definitely really finicky. Quite slow and many of the monitor feature didn't show up in the sidekick. It's also never been updated (the only time it did was last year and that's it)
The monitor I bought also come with a dead sub-pixel. At one pixel there's a green or blue sub-pixel dead and basically there's a single magenta tint in the monitor that definitely stands out when I'm working. Thankfully it didn't bother me much.
The point is, I appreciate Gigabyte with their effort in making monitor. A great monitor for both working and playing. But keep in mind, their support is a bit on the low priority side, and the M32U seems like rendering this G32QC monitor obsolete. The VA panel with high refresh rate definite a bad combo. Really blurry on certain scene of the game, made me miss my old IPS monitor.

I know burn in is an issue, but I know I would be responsible with my monitor and the other benefits like the contrast ratios, hdr due to all the individual pixel dimming zones, and insanely fast response times outweigh any potential burn in issues to me.

@@JustinEmlay nothing crazy. For the 32 inch 4k panels in general they have had weaker color accuracies than the 28 inch 4k panels, and also slower response times. And this specific gigabyte 32 inch 4k monitor had a decent margin slower response times compared to gigabytes own 28 inch 4k version. Although they have released firmware that has remedied the issue a lot. But the 32 inch panels are slower than the 28 inch panels, although it seems it might of just been teething issue since it is getting closer to parody.
