The Wii U is a console most overlook or hate, it’s one that I actually grew up with a bit, the graphics were great, and I’m happy it’s getting at least SOME attention this year. With a modded 3ds and WiiU, you can play every main entry into all major Nintendo franchises (up until the switch games ofc)
6:27 I’m still really disappointed that Super Mario Maker 2 didn’t perform better and that Nintendo gave up on updating it after a while, it’s a really great game and one of my most played switch games, there’s so much potential for even more cool things Nintendo could add but I guess it didn’t sell as well as they hoped so they gave up.
I say I’m Wii U fan boy. But hate game pad be use can’t move far away. But remember disc games lol. Wish next console have mix of switch and old Wii love.
Besides the bad marketing/advertising, I think another big problem with the Wii U was its gimmick. I absolutley LOVE the controller and the idea of a second screen feature. *However,* that means the controller needs its own hardware (CPU, GPU, all that stuff) like a console already does, so I think the controller's feature was the reason for the Wii U's hardware being weaker than it could've been. Without the second screen in the first place, Nintendo could've gotten away with a more powerful console with maybe even more gigabytes of storage for the same price.

I think a big reason why the Wii U failed is the marketing seemed really bad and mostly just marketed to children and there were great games but not enough with long droughts with nothing to play (or so i’ve heard). Still overall it seems like a great console and I can really appreciate the personality it has, compared to the Switch which may be faster and more streamlined but lacks some of that special nintendo personality (not counting in the games).
I'm so glad all the best Wii U games got a second chance. Part of why Wii U failed was the stigma. When they got ported to Switch that's when they were considered amazing games And playing them on the go was a neat bonus
I can't agree with your point that part of the Wii U's failure is because it was weaker than contemporary consoles when the Wii before it & the Switch after it both were the best sellers of their generations with the same comparatively weak specs. The average consumer doesn't understand or even care about specs. Good video regardless.
I will hold the classic “it wasn’t me” defense and blame friends and family. My other Wii U is pristine and was used as much if not more than my first :D
The WiiU is Nintendo's second biggest bust for gaming. If it wasn't for the name it would be higher on the list of selling like hotcakes. I would welcome you to the Virtual Boy.
Nintendo just left the Home console market and just added TV output to the Game Boy Switch. I doubt they'll ever bother making another home console again, especially see how poorly even Sony are doing this generation with PS5 and i don't even know why Microsoft keep making Xbox as they have all been a failure except the 360 having mild success, even then i wonder what % of that 60m was replacing broken Xbox 360 instead of an actual new user.
I disagree with Mario Kart 8 'blowing' Wii out of the water. It lacked content and variety and I think it's objectively the worst in the series besides than SNES and GBA in terms of gameplay I do think other Wii U games were amazing but Mario Kart 8 was disappointing
I really don’t think it failed. I guess technically you could say the console was below expectations and it did fail, but the main problem was the Wii was so ahead of its time. So six years later when they had a Wii U, it was no longer considered advanced, especially compared to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one at the time. But the Wii U provided something else it provided great games and an interesting way to play. It should’ve really been a prototype for the switch. Wii U failed so the switch could succeed, but the dynamics of both are the same with the U you could play either on TV or handheld with a switch. You could take it wherever and it’s portable. The Wii U is still a great gaming system and there’s a lot of games that got ported to the switch, but I could still play on Wii U and the switch. I like how Wii U can be a second Wii and you could play the Wii games on it. It’s a great gaming system, but people didn’t realize what the point was and by the time the switch came out 10 years after the original Wii, that was really what everybody was looking forward to as it replaced both the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS.
@@StrawHatMidas I still use mine almost daily. Ever since Pretendo Network existed, I've been getting into it more. (Pretendo is a project to recreate Nintendo Network, in the same vein as Wiimmfi for Nintendo WFC for the Wii.)
Absolutely! Maybe someday I will make videos THAT good but i am not sure if i will get there any time soon. He is an inspiration to me along with some others like Arlo and Alpharad so maybe someday I can get near their level :D
