    Beautiful camper. Interesting how the layout is exactly like my pristine 1979 Okanagan 8-6”. I definitely cannot walk on my roof, but, my table top does form part of the bed support, just makes sense in a small footprint to utilize everything. Nice tour. 👍🇨🇦

    If I was in the market for one of these, I would seek an option to ditch the oven, have a two burner cooktop, and have more storage under the cooktop. With space as a premium, it's dumb to put an oven, which at times becomes a storage.

    • @DontStepInTheGrease
      @DontStepInTheGrease 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same here as I'm just 1 person.
      2 burners, no oven or microwave. No TV. No wraparound dinette. Full sz mattress instead of q, and no pull-out beds. Maybe someday Lance will make a bare bones one like this.

    All these Lance's that you're showing tend to have Solar. In your vids could you show wherer the batteries are and how many amps you get and where the solar controler is? I would be nice to know the solar effiency too and if you could add more panels. I like to carry a generator but its also nice to know about the battery system so you can get an idea for when you can get away without using it. thx. I love your vids by the way.

    One thing my granddad always said "just because you can, doesn't always mean you should". I like this camper, I wouldn't put it on a half. At the least a 3/4 ton. Then there are no worries about the suspension

  • @DiscosVideos
    @DiscosVideos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    You can't increase your GVW. I have weighed my Titan and that thing would put me 1,000 lbs over my GVW without me, wife, kid, dog and gear. I'm shocked that Lance says you can put that in the back of a half ton. I think you'll have to upgrade more then just your suspension.

    • @DiscosVideos
      @DiscosVideos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @M. L. That's mainly because of their government contracts not because they're any better. They make a good truck. All I'm saying is because one makes a good one doesn't mean the other isn't good. Made in the US is made in the US... But way to troll buddy.

    Short bed!? That leaves my long bed out. Darn. Darn darn.
    I really like the idea of a pickup bed camper because I live alone, travel to places where my two brothers and two sisters want to vacation. I used to do this with a trailer I could sleep in and tow behind a motorcycle. A truck bed camper looks absolutely metropolitan.
    I assume I could add airlift levelers to my truck if it needed a wee boost to the capacity. Really nice inside.

    Great video! A couple questions; 1. How does the camper hold up if I want to boondock or drive back in mountainous gravel roads? I know it mostly depends on how the truck will handle the roads. I just curious how the TC will handle uneven roads ie: tilt, slide around, etc. 2. Does this come with the upper soft side which goes down when you travel? 3. When there are problems with the TC what might be typical issues that come up? Thanks.

    • @itsbrad
      @itsbrad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you!
      1. The TC will go anywhere the truck will go, rubber bed mats for the camper to sit on and Torklift Tiedown system help secure/eliminate shifting tremendously!
      2) Lance is fully fiberglass with laminate exterior and TPO front nose cap, does not lower while traveling.
      3) No major issues that I’ve seen, issues I have seen is over tightening of waterline connection to water heater bypass causing leak, and no power to back up camera (which gets caught and fixed before goes to customer when it goes through our prep department).

    I think newer half tons are around 2000 lb payload, depending on make, but my 2010 GMC Sierra is only 1470 or so......I can't get any of these or even the light soft side ones from Palomino apparently. I was considering air bags but that doesn't improve the brakes, axle/bearing sizes for the weight above payload capacity. Too bad since I don't want to sell my truck for a 3/4 ton or newer one since it only has 120,000 km on it despite being 2010.

    I have a 2016 Lance 865. I load mine on my 2016 Ram 2500 diesel truck. That 865 had my 3/4 ton squatting. I put on the Airlift 5000 air bags and the set up works great! I don’t think any half ton truck I’ve ever owned would have done very well with my 865 sitting in it. With air bags to level it it may be fine. I load my truck with loads of green firewood that I know for a fact outweighs my camper. The air bags level it out fine and the truck handles the camper just fine

    • @itsbrad
      @itsbrad  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Newer 1500 and 2500 Rams are the worst choice vehicles to pair with a truck camper. For some reason the put coil springs instead of leafs on what’s supposed to be a “Heavy Duty” truck. From experience, F250’s need zero suspension support to handle an 865.
      I do agree with the halfton statement as Lance no longer has a Truck Camper rated for one.

    Love this camper layout I've been looking for one with a great bath layout. Note: adding suspension upgrade to a half ton doesn't make it legally able to carry more weight, it just makes it easier for the truck to carry the weight. If you're in an accident and over weight you'll have an insurance situation, and potentially a legal one. Make sure you know the legal payload capacity of the truck.

    • @TexasScout

    • @oldbearsden9819
      @oldbearsden9819 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In order to be legal you can up your weight limit on the registration. You just have to have the upgraded suspension inspected at the state police. The weight tag on your truck inside the door is a guideline for the stock truck. You can upgrade the leaf springs and insurance will cover it, just make sure you tell them. Just never use a truck that has coil springs on the rear.

    Important to note that the vast majority of GMC/Chevy 1500 series trucks (with 5.5ft beds) have stickers hidden in the bottom glove box which state the trucks cannot be used with slide-in campers. A Lance 650 or larger camper cannot be put onto them. Check the bottom of your glove box before looking for slide-in campers for GMC/Chevy 1500 trucks.

      Jose Callazos, I have a 2018 865 and haul it with my 2013 F150 and it does fine. I did add Timbrens to the rear suspension, but thats it. Even the 650 is legally too heavy for most half ton trucks. Ive put on about 2000 miles so far with the camper and i will say the truck handles fine and still manages to get 12mpgs doing it. Even in windy situations, it still feels very well planted to the ground and ive not experianced any sway to speak of. I feel more comfortable hauling the truck camper with this truck than i did towing the 32' travel trailer it replaced.

    I can't decide between a Class B or a ¾ ton with a camper and a slide. Both work since it's just me and my dog.

    • @travissmithoh
      @travissmithoh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Class B are nice for being in the camper all the time. You never need to step out with the dog to get in the camper. Now the truck camper is nice because you have a truck and a camper. You can separate the two for maintenance or resale. The problem with looking at Truck Campers in general is the weight. You might as well buy a 350/3500 1-ton to carry it, no matter which TC you end up with.

    • @billbeyatte
      @billbeyatte 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a Lance 825 on a Ford F-250. Sprinters look sweet but it's nice to be able to separate the two units. Down side is that you have to exit the truck to enter the camper. As another comment mentioned. Any decent size TC needs a one ton. If I had it to do over, I'd have gotten a 350 SRW.

    • @beverlyhigh620
      @beverlyhigh620 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billbeyatte Thanks, Bill. I don't like the Sprinter class, more of Ford, even GMC. I like the handling of the F250 so it wouldn't be a stretch to bump up to ther F350.

    • @beverlyhigh620
      @beverlyhigh620 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@travissmithoh The tc I've looked at seem more spacious than a B class, and I like the fact I can separate the 2. I used a F250 to tow a 30ft 5th wheel, had no problems, but thre weight is a camper would mean bumping up to a F350 dually. More stability

    • @billbeyatte
      @billbeyatte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A dually would certainly add stability. I get a lot of roll with my 250. I'm thinking about adding some hefty Hellwig sway bars front and rear. A dually is just too BIG for me. Overkill with a Lance 825.
