Komondomon is definitely the MVP of this series. He's been home, shelter, transport, a way to escape from danger and here he even puts himself on the line to help the digimon reunite with their partners.
I would like to see more vehicle or building digimon myself. Just think about the character having to defend a castle digimon or fighting a pirate ship digimon.
Seeing Komondomon be the hero this week was so satisfying, such a good Digi-Appa. Also, another week, another episode where Leomon survived. C'mon, two more episodes, you can do it, Leomon! Also... poor X-Treme Fight. We got Be the Winners, then Break the Chain. Could have given the middle song one last hoorah.
The origin and creation of Negamon is really intriguing, literally an inevitable existence, it has many references and similarities with Apocalymon (negative thoughts were drawn together by darkness) and D-Reaper (purge the digital world once the number of lifeforms within it surpasses a certain number). Thing is, Negamon wants to devours both digital and human world, gave me the vibe of "Agent Smith" in The Matrix trilogy, who also stand as an "negative". The darkest part is it will eventually to devours itself to maintain its work...
Indeed, that's what I thought too. Negamon wasn't inherently "evil" like most digimon. Rather it's more of primordial digital lifeform that has existed as a counterbalance to the crests (representing the darkness and the crests represent the light). However, after it discovered the negative energy from the human world, it basically became addicted to that negative energy and couldn't stop itself. Now it's running rampant and trying to consume everything. Negamon is basically a very, very hungry boi. I like it though, definately has similarities to Apocalymon and the D-Reaper as you said. It is trying to fulfill its purpose. It's a unique final villain. Different to anyone else we've had.

Digimon 2020 reminds me of the old anime series with lots of "fillers", like Sailormoon etc. The final few episodes always bring a lot of plot advancement. However, the fillers are not all disposable. There is always some character development. The 12 episode format ones have a lot tighter stories that have almost no fillers but also sometimes is unsatisfying in the character development. I guess it is hard to do almost 70 episodes without fillers but some are so disposable that I don't need to watch them. Thanks for the videos. I have been following your analysis all along. Yeah, just take a look at an old Anime like "Zero no tsukaima"... 10 to 11 episodes of fanservice and fluff and suddenly by episode 12, or the end of episode 11, the plot crashes in through the window.
Honestly, Algomon/Negamon's plan fixes one of the criticisms I had with Adventure 2020; the criticism being that it didn't feel like any of the antagonist and incidents were connected at all and only some of them felt like "inteligent" enemies. However, seeing as they want to end themselves because they come from a race that is pratically immortal and they want to find a way to end it and had help from the human world thanks to our internet makes thier (somewhat) lack of personality/nihilism make sense. Side note: Kurata and the D Reaper would have a field day with Algomon and Negamon if they all heard this plan; D Reaper being very similar in scope when you think about it.
I really am warming up to Negamon now. We saw him here and there in the beginning. I think the biggest problem regarding him/it was that Negamon didn't appear at all for AGES after the Nidhoggmon fight where it was communicating with Devimon. It wasn't until Millenniummon was defeated and at episode 51 we finally saw Negamon again. I wish we had gotten more of the information on the Great Catastrophe sprinkled out during the Millenniummon arc (a hint here and there that there was something bigger coming).
The question becomes, if the Chosen finish off Negamon, then what will become of the world? Evolve out of control? It really leaves the door open! That is actually a good point. We know that Omnimon is the one necessary to stop Negamon (although I for one hope we still get his Alter-S form in the finale episode/67). But as to the aftermath, good question.
I imagine Negamon cannot be truly defeated as it is a counter balance to the never ending cycle. So I imagine Negamon once defeated will one day comeback in a different form or different forms likely a new counter to the eight crests. You know the Seven Great Demon Lord Digimon where they too have what appears to be crests that represent one of the Seven Deadly Sins? I'm thinking this would be the Digital World's new counterbalance using what it has learned of human malice and will seek a different means of balancing itself.
@@VanishEclipse4867 That is actually one of the best fan theories I have heard in relation to this show. To be fair as it is a digimon, Negamon being defeated will probably also revert back to a digi-egg but then as you say, the digital world faces the conundrum of what can it do then to create balance again. It's all very interesting, I imagine Negamon took on a much different form in the beginning given it was more neutral as well.
@@xDinomanx Riding off of the eggs part, that would mean as the Digital World's counterbalance, seven eggs will be spawned from Negamon's demise. Those eggs carrying pieces of data gathered from Negamon's frenzy each carrying with them data of human malice in certain forms. Once those eggs hatch, those seven digimon will be set on a path towards evolution like any other yet their peak will be beings whose malice so strong it could corrupt the Digital World itself. Negamon has been split into seven pieces each representing seven forms of human malice, and those forms evolve to become stronger than the eight crests.
@@VanishEclipse4867 That would've been a cool concept if we were getting a sequel season. Basically it would mean Ogudomon (the jogress of the Seven Demon Lords) and Negamon are the same digimon.
It's funny how the themes here of negativity and positivity play off each other. If we aren't reading into it too much, one could say that the internet represents shared the misery of humans and thus a great feeding ground for Negamon. However, that small bit of isolation and personal growth through the lens of being "innocent children" is literally the opposite. If that is the case, it's an even deeper philosophy here that the chosen are always children because they are the purest forms of courage, hope, light, friendship, etc. Makes me think this is the writers very subtly asking us to never let those things go as we get older.
Yes! I was thinking that too. They were definitely planting seeds all throughout the show for many of these things (like Angemon being reborn not just being a callback to 1999 but actually setting up the “rules” of rebirth)…I just wish they were a little more open about this stuff whenever they did mention it!
This series started with an Our War Game homage, so I think it'd be fitting to end on one. With the Network now this critical element, and the human world being directly involved in the final battle, and Omegamon being described as an existence which can only manifest in our worlds through thoughts and prayers, they're really setting up for a moment where people around the world send messages of hope and support to the Chosen (with their Digimon friends doing the same on the other side), fueling their power and pushing Omegamon's abilities further and further and opening up the path to Alter-S.
Yeah precisely! Presumably omegamon base form will be the miracle born from the digital world and its inhabitants desire to live, and the Alter S form can be the miracle born from the human world and ITS inhabitants desire to live
Hi there. I read a description somewhere that it's only the children around the world who will believe in our heroes when shit goes down on real world, and if Negamon feeds on negativity maybe all of the children's faith will cut Negamon out of food or boost Omegamon.
I'll quickly sum up my negative of this episode in that we didn't get any good fight choreography/animation. That being said I don't dislike this episode at all personally as we all know that this is a build-up episode plain and simple. With that out of the way, the episode itself... My goodness we finally got the last bit of information we have needed. We now have justification on who Negamon is and what is its true purpose. Your summary on how all of it came to be, the clash the digital world's "instincts/ideals" was spot on as well so props to you there DigiKnow. I really like this take here, it's definately very original for Digimon as we've had similar aspects to this in the forms of Apocalymon and D-Reaper in previous seasons. But what also makes Negamon is so interesting is how its motive is a massive reflection on the Internet too, how it can be used for negativity. Negamon is not inherently evil but rather was a counterbalance to the crests that unfortunately saw the negative energy of the Internet and of course, Negamon being a creature that thrives on negative energy became addicted to it and now cannot stop consuming everything. It's a great motive. Negamon didn't need to be tragic but rather is an unstoppable primordial force in the form of a digimon. I am definately looking forward to seeing how it does in the coming episodes. Negamon's massive mouths were very creepy. I do like that it managed to separate the kids from the digimon, this really was a final test for the kids alone to reaffirm their virtues. That being said I loved it when we get to hear "Be the Winners" for what I can assume is the last time we will hear that. Shame we didn't get X-Treme Fight on top of that either. Also I think Algomon deserves the award for longest running bad guy in this show as it has appeared the most and survived after getting decimated by Omnimon. I'm not surprised this was his last hurrah either. Now we can definately say for certain he's not coming back after the Chosen's megas literally "chestbursted" him Aliens-style. :D Can I also say that Komondomon, Gerbemon and Searchmon are the MVP's of this episode too? So yes, negative being no awesome action sequences but that said, the lore dump more than makes up for it. Great build-up episode for the finale.
Komondomon's part was the best part of the episode (I teared up ngl) followed closely by Algomon dying from the mega transformations. Was not expecting those moments, so I greatly appreciated them. Also, the lore explanation is very satisfying (I feel like I am just repeating myself) - especially the message "don't send anon hate or you will feed Negamon". That's nice. Though I am looking forward to Koushiro to used the Internet to win - feeding on the positivity there.
An interesting episode, i didnt even think that much about it, this is a really nice episode review At first i thought this episode was kind of confusing, because i didnt really understand what argomon was talking about, but you sums it up and make it understandable, even you give us some recaps from some earlier episode, good job for this review and it seems this series has a really deep meaning for us who enjoys it, their adventures, their connections with all digimons in digital world, and the Will of the digital world helps them to defeat zeedmilleniummon, tbh i still didnt believe it, well he didnt even appeared for a quarter of 1 episode but then just vanished like that

Being able to make friends all over the world, perhaps even partner 3. Sharing skills and experiences 4. Providing easy access support system for minority groups 5. Providing A huge Amon of work opportunities 6. In case of pandemics, we won't get crazy because of isolation 7. Social medias helped people in protests against oppressive regime
Totally! I do like what this show had to say but I do kind of resent that almost every time a piece of talks about the internet and social media it's conclusions are "internet bad, go outside" -- it isn't that simple. The internet has done so much good too. Hopefully the show will comment on this in the end?

Im glad we got more information but it would have been great if we had it weaved throughout the story better instead of random dumps. With all the filler this season had it could have just been a 50 episode anime and it would have probably been better for it. I do plan on rewatching the entire series once its over and I have the time. Seeing if it all works when having the full context for the show. The preview for next week is kind if underwhelming seeing just regular Omnimon, are we not getting Alter S?
The revelations in this episode have me looking back at the entire series so far to see how it's changed the context in how I view it. For example, I was confused by what saved Tai and Agumon back in episode 30 but now after this episode my mind goes 'OH MY GOSH, that was the crest of courage manifesting in their will to live'. The implications are going to take some time for me to digest, but I'm super into this. And yes I loved seeing Komondomon lending a hand, i've come to love that guy so much.
Yeah personally I’m also thinking about episode 24 with both Devimon going fully rage mode as DawnDevimon as well as Agumon dark digivolving into the rage mode Machibedramon. Both were becoming just these mindless ambassadors of destruction like Negamon / The Great Catastrophe / The Instinct To End wanted !
I find it funny that Negamon is trying "break the chain"and end the cycle of life in the digital world while our Mega-level evolution theme is called "Break the Chain" lol
the plot of the villians story seems very similar to that of the D-reaper of digimon tamers. A program originally created to control digivolutions, but couldn't keep up with the pace digimon evolution, so soom adapted and evolved itself to maintain digimon growth, and then saw the human world as a potential threat sense it was a source to the choas of the digital world. For me, I just want to see if seraphimon will use his ultimate attack; Testament (The Big Bang). He's never used this ability ever in a digimon series and I'd like to see it. My theory is that, negamon will succeed and erase the digital world, and seraphimon will reboot the digital world by creating a big bang which will restart life again in the digital world. This will ultimately allow patamon to prove devimon wrong about his views of the world ending enviably.
This is probably my favorite episode. I wouldnt have minded if half the episode was full evolution sequences to begin the battle but I feel they way it was handled was also fine. This shows that the action doesnt just stop so they can digivolve they had to digivolve at appropriate times and utilize the evolution energy itself since argomon mega wasnt going to give room to evolve. Skipping most champions showing clips of the ultimates and skipping most megas was reasonable to keep the pacing fast and matching break the chain. I also love that this is basically an animated digimon story cyber sleuth anime. The main enemy is a digital creature which consumes for the sake of it and exists just to consume and by consuming human data aka our internet data it corrupted its original purpose to an extreme. All of this is exactly like the eaters. The finaly villian is basically an eater created by the humans but in the form of a digimon. I love the way this turned out.
@@thedigiknow It also shows a lot of similarities to the plot of Tamers. The D-reaper was also a program meant to consume and delete old worn out programs. But it evolved when influanced by humans and digimon and then went to delete and/or consume everything. out of all 7 series 8 if you include appli monster This probably has the strongest plot you could ask for. You can see the love. The plot calls back to so many things and there are tons of cameos from other digimon series but a lot from xros wars which was popular in japan but almost killed digimon in the US.
Quite some parallels here with the story of TFP's Unicron and Primus. Both were originally 1 being, but inner conflict between the 2 developing voices conversing back and forth eventually caused them to split. They would never be able to unite again due to irreconcilable differences. The creation of the Digivices can somewhat be a parallel to Primus creating the 13 Primes. Negamon seeks to consume and annihilate everything similar to Unicron. While the Chosen Children must act on behalf of the Digital World's instinct to survive to stop him similar to how the 13 Primes must stop Unicron. I love how the plot relates to the human interactions on the internet. So many individuals who probably would not usually say certain things to people choose to do so on the internet due to anonymity and proximity. One could say that the internet became a way to release things normally kept hidden- both good and bad.
I love watching this channel, it's hard for me to watch subbed series due to super heavy ADHD so I will be looking forward to seeing the dubbed version when it drops
It was a solid episode! Loved the explanation, but my only gripe was the evolution. During the outro they have this cool blink evolution of agumon and gabumon going to mega. I would have loved that, but with all 8 of them at once avenger style
I said in one of your reviews that Negamon comes to be as a counter to the eight crests where it would have been a being created by human malice. Well I wasn't wrong that the Void now we know as Negamon was using human malice and negativity as energy to create his emissaries like Nidhoggmon and turn any and all major villains to weapons of destruction. But what caught me off guard this episode was that Negamon was an existence created by the instinct from the digital world to end the endless cycle of life and rebirth while the eight crests were the Digital World's instinct to continue as planned. Basically as you said, it was the Digital World trying to destroy itself while through the eight crests, it cried for help in search of human virtue and found the Chosen Children to be the partners of two of the Holy Digimon and the reincarnations of the Six Warriors. Basically the Digital World was searching for an answer whether it should continue to exist with its' endless cycle of life and rebirth and the divine rule of darwinism or end itself for good. What I found even more surprising was that my speculations where Negamon was causing discord in the human world through the network and using data generated from the chaos as fuel was proven true but because of advancements to information technology via touch screens, social media and so on, Negamon gained far more negative data than expected which has driven it insane to where it doesn't just want to end the Digital World anymore as it had with Milleniumon but now wants to end all existence. In a way, like how the kindness of the Chosen Children have allowed their digimon to reach greater heights, human negativity on the internet has worsened Negamon turning it into that endless void. Calling Negamon the Void is super accurate it's not even funny anymore. This would ultimately mean the only existence that can counter a menace of the void empowered by human malice is an existence that is an embodiment of human virtue and that very existence is Omegamon. Now a minor speculation from myself but I imagine with Negamon's demise it won't be the end because the Digital World then would continue its' endless cycle of rebirth. So I imagine Negamon cannot be truly defeated because there must be a balance to evolution and so Negamon instead enters into the network and creates new counters to the eight crests. As the eight crests represent light, the remains of Negamon would convert into dark crests that represents dark. I was thinking perhaps seven dark crests to represent the Seven Great Demon Lords but that is not something worth considering since that might lead to a possible D2 yet that is still in the air and from Digimon 2020 we gonna need something original if there are any plans to do that.

@@thedigiknow I personally have been staying neutral this whole series because II think this digimon series is quite decent especially when I'm someone who has been actively analyzing nearly every episode seeing what the motives of the antagonists were every episode.
The aspect of Negamon I loved especially was that hyper-consumption and addiction to it being the thing that threatens to drain the worlds of all their resources and totally end them. Makes me think specifically about global capitalist culture's emphasis on individual consumption setting up for ecological catastrophe, and that instinct to connect and find the power to save the world from catastrophe combatting that through embodied conscious connection. Consumption is necessary, but the culture we live in - and the way it manifests online - is driving the world to destruction. We need to think about what we value and really connect with others to save these things. That part of Negamon wanting to end renewal is interesting for a number of reasons, but it also made me reflect on the addiction to negative energy on the internet. That drive to end suffering doesn't have to be so focussed on selfish consumption, it seems that drive could have been turned in a different more harmonious direction, but the overwhelming negativity of the online world leads to fatalism. Perhaps a bit too deep, but I would even go as far to say that it mirrors a lot of the passively suicidal, depressive hedonia of people online who are unable to think beyond the pleasure principle and thus are resigned to nihilism.
I hope Omegamon become Omegamon Alter-S otherwise Blitzgreymon and Cressgarurumon is totally wasted, I was really disappointed that the final villain is just a mindless creature who only exist for destruction, can't we have a genius villain like how Vamdemon was.
The Angemon and devimon being one and the same is interest concept yin yang, but every time there some important plot it became B plot . The A plot always get sided away. Wish the writer pace out foreshadow more with millennium mon . It’s like live action so we can get full episode of two depict past. The trio of angel never get same level screen time together like frontier
Maybe Omegamon is going to take the role of Administrator of the Digital World, if the Digital world allows it. I see no Yggdrasil reference in this continuity.
I think lopmon had died tho in the ancient war, and then revive and get his memories back after seeing wargreymon. For patamon and tailmon, they survive but captured by the evil side. So they still have the memory this whole time.
Another thing is that they only know each other when the ancient war started. At that time they had already evolved into cherubimon, seraphimon and ofanimon. So they might not recognise each other when they are lopmon, patamon and tailmon. But I still feel weitd tho about thr fact that angemon and angewomon evolved into seraphimon and ofanimon and ended the ancient war. But then in valdurmon's image they had already evolved into seven holy digimon and led the good digimon in the ancient war.
I get the idea they're going with for it. But they could have done something like this sooner. Maybe drop some lines hinting at something. Maybe something mentioning how negative human thoughts cause some digimon to go berserk or lose their inteligence
Yep I totally agree Maybe in that arc where everyone’s phones were heating up, you have people watching the kids fight Orochimon on the displays and have the people posting really negative stuff about the fight and it fuels the enemy

Like maybe some people want it to destroy the kids digimon because they like it better, or people being scared of it etc and when they beat it a good number of people are upset that it died so it revives and then evolves into Niddhogmon as i gains the ability speak. But instead of speaking normally it says nothing but nonsense, mainly saying what people were saying online. This increases it's power to the point that it can explode.
Yes, one episode lore dumps so that the middle of the series can be filled with non linear progression that doesn't make sense without it. This is what you get with a weekly production, they just cut their main plots in a third and filled the blanks in with mini stories to push the kids development. Now for two percent of this series to reflect yamatos actual importance with omegamon. The writers probably wanted to just give taichi gabumon as well for less work but no. Show his significance in the first 3 eps and keep him low key until the last 3. Lol
@@manga925 True but not to the extent that 2020 does it. In the original yamato had reflective anti social characteristics that lead to more complex situations, in his budding competition with taichi, to the point of a fight between megas and a separation of the core group. Much more than what he was given with the reboot. And its especially noticeable when he is half of the savior yet has barely got victories under his belt when it comes to metal garurumon, meanwhile taichi gets all the attention, which is fine. But being the only one seeing images of omegamon and being tested when he is only half, and spirit bomb terra forcing millenniumon himself is way less balanced than what we've been given. A lack of attention is no excuse for lack of developed importance. They pushed mimi and joe in a sorta close way that they could have done with taichi and yamato but chose to cheese it this way. Its just a noticeable drop of the ball in my opinion.

The story/plot sounds great but it's a thin outline amidts the structural mess the season otherwise has been. Negamon feeding on energy from the negative side of the internet - cool idea but show us some more. Let the children handle cyber bullying or something.
I haven’t seen a single episode of this series yet and only clips and your explanation videos. I’m sad about 02 cast potentially being expunged because of pegasumon apparently happening without the proper egg evolution. Idk how I feel about that yet lol. I wish ogremon, etemon, myotismon, dark masters, apocolyamon, and diaboromon could have had arcs included into this series with the other bad digimon as villains as well. I know they did more with Devimon because of your vids. Idk how millenniumon wasn’t the final villain tho or even how Chimeron wasn’t explained how it was there or who created it. Idk I actually need to watch this series. You have made it sound really good from everything you have posted that I just caught up watching. So its the Apocalymon character backstory and plot but recycled in a more intriguing way. Nice still feel ZeedMillenium should have been the actual threat and not misused before in the story instead of Negamon but same concept Fine at least theres cohesive plot and its not bad.
In the never ending story of Life and Death evolution plays a huge part of that so by killing of Negamon and allowing the cycle to continue unchecked we could get a really amazing opening to tell the x-antibody story were the digital world is getting out of hand and king drasil destroys it with the x-virus creating the x-antibody and I could definitely be behind that series
I don't think king drasil or even homeostasis exist in this reboot, given that the digital world needed feedback from the human world to decide whether to end or to continue existing
In fairness to the Mega Digimon Evo's, the beams of light cutting through Algomon mid Mega-Digiviolve was great... I wonder if Xtreme Fight will get a turn next week?
Yo the finale is starting to live up to its hype. I haven't seen a threat this big since lucimon from frontier trying to get to the real world. I get the sense that negamon has finally accumulated enough power to warp reality and make it's way to the real world. I mean imagine what would happen if it manages to get here and the world sees it in its entirety. The world would be thrown into chaos and negamon would feed off of it and become essentially a god of destruction. That's what's at stake along with the whole digital world and it has me on the edge of my seat. THIS is why I love digimon more than pokemon. Just to clarify I don't hate pokemon either (huge fan of it too btw) its just that the animes can't even compare. One show deals with a kid living in a slice of life adventure while the other has kids fighting cosmic entities and it's awesome lol Shout out to komodomon, the real MVP of this show. Holy crap he is the bestest of bois and deserves a medal lol I really can't wait to see how crazy the final battle will be Also ps kinda sad that we're getting regular omegamon and not alter s mode but hey at least they're saving the best for last
Why not make like a Dark Digital World (not to be confused with the dark ocean) Where when you die You stay dead So eventually all the Digimon who die and reincarnate eventually go there and die and stay dead And the digimon can decided If they want to die and be reborn in the digital world Die and be reborn in the human world and never be able to go Back to the Digital world Or Die and go to the dark world To die one more time and end entirely
i enjoyed this reboot, but they could have done so much more. i wish they were rebooting the entirety of "adventure" (02 and tri). they could have even added in some of whats in the frontier series. having the 8 chosen digimon become the ancient elemental warriors. idk just sooo much potential wasted its aggravating. i love digimon for the lore (and digivolutions of course). the other series are cool but im tired of it constantly changing with every series. they could have connected all the different series together and just made this really epic reboot. but nah its just a one season reboot of basically the same story just with a few different villlains and what not. i dont like how they primarily focused on tai either. sorry for the rant lol

They should have done a side story where Lopmon met Terriermon and WIllis/Wallace just to make a connection to the movie a to explain why Lopmon isn't with the Chosen Children.
Summary: - Aah, yee's, Lore. I have been waiting for this for some time. - Animation quality => beneath average, especially last fight scene. Maybe 20 years ago this would have been acceptable/hype but now in 2021, NO. - Interesting idea to use Gerbemon's trash can as a catapult. True MVP. - Negamon while being still in the Baby 2 stage hasn't yet talk which I wait probably most right now. Overall: At some points, the animation was really bad but given we got a good amount of lore about Negamon, I cannot be too mad about it. But I can do a comparison that right now Negamon acts like D-reaper consuming everything in his path of destruction, but even D-reaper was able to talk so yeah. And originally in the games, Zeed's had an even better plan to conquer all realities so I could argue that Negamon end goals aren't that interesting to me. His motive isn't just so interesting to me right than comparing to other final villain's end goals. 5/10
I am actually not happy about what we got. It came out of nowhere, and no, the journey wasn't worth this sudden revelation. Yes, the idea is cool, and I like it, but it shouldn't have been just thrown in at the last three episodes. I rather have taken something like the dark masters again, than what we got here. We needed more buildup damn it =(

i agree that it’s a super interesting plot but it would have been better to get it throughout the show instead of at the very end it gives us no time to explore its kinda just like “here’s the plot now the show’s over” i think it shows the reboot had a lot of potential just not the best execution imo

The origin and creation of Negamon is really intriguing, literally an inevitable existence, it has many references and similarities with Apocalymon (negative thoughts were drawn together by darkness) and D-Reaper (purge the digital world once the number of lifeforms within it surpasses a certain number). Thing is, Negamon wants to devours both digital and human world, gave me the vibe of "Agent Smith" in The Matrix trilogy, who also stand as an "negative". The darkest part is it will eventually to devours itself to maintain its work...
Indeed, that's what I thought too. Negamon wasn't inherently "evil" like most digimon. Rather it's more of primordial digital lifeform that has existed as a counterbalance to the crests (representing the darkness and the crests represent the light). However, after it discovered the negative energy from the human world, it basically became addicted to that negative energy and couldn't stop itself. Now it's running rampant and trying to consume everything. Negamon is basically a very, very hungry boi.
I like it though, definately has similarities to Apocalymon and the D-Reaper as you said. It is trying to fulfill its purpose. It's a unique final villain. Different to anyone else we've had.

Digimon 2020 reminds me of the old anime series with lots of "fillers", like Sailormoon etc. The final few episodes always bring a lot of plot advancement. However, the fillers are not all disposable. There is always some character development. The 12 episode format ones have a lot tighter stories that have almost no fillers but also sometimes is unsatisfying in the character development. I guess it is hard to do almost 70 episodes without fillers but some are so disposable that I don't need to watch them. Thanks for the videos. I have been following your analysis all along. Honestly, Algomon/Negamon's plan fixes one of the criticisms I had with Adventure 2020; the criticism being that it didn't feel like any of the antagonist and incidents were connected at all and only some of them felt like "inteligent" enemies. However, seeing as they want to end themselves because they come from a race that is pratically immortal and they want to find a way to end it and had help from the human world thanks to our internet makes thier (somewhat) lack of personality/nihilism make sense.
Side note: Kurata and the D Reaper would have a field day with Algomon and Negamon if they all heard this plan; D Reaper being very similar in scope when you think about it.
I really am warming up to Negamon now. We saw him here and there in the beginning. I think the biggest problem regarding him/it was that Negamon didn't appear at all for AGES after the Nidhoggmon fight where it was communicating with Devimon. It wasn't until Millenniummon was defeated and at episode 51 we finally saw Negamon again. I wish we had gotten more of the information on the Great Catastrophe sprinkled out during the Millenniummon arc (a hint here and there that there was something bigger coming).
The question becomes, if the Chosen finish off Negamon, then what will become of the world? Evolve out of control? It really leaves the door open!

That is actually a good point. We know that Omnimon is the one necessary to stop Negamon (although I for one hope we still get his Alter-S form in the finale episode/67). But as to the aftermath, good question.
I imagine Negamon cannot be truly defeated as it is a counter balance to the never ending cycle. So I imagine Negamon once defeated will one day comeback in a different form or different forms likely a new counter to the eight crests. You know the Seven Great Demon Lord Digimon where they too have what appears to be crests that represent one of the Seven Deadly Sins? I'm thinking this would be the Digital World's new counterbalance using what it has learned of human malice and will seek a different means of balancing itself.

To be fair as it is a digimon, Negamon being defeated will probably also revert back to a digi-egg but then as you say, the digital world faces the conundrum of what can it do then to create balance again.
It's all very interesting, I imagine Negamon took on a much different form in the beginning given it was more neutral as well.
@@xDinomanx Riding off of the eggs part, that would mean as the Digital World's counterbalance, seven eggs will be spawned from Negamon's demise. Those eggs carrying pieces of data gathered from Negamon's frenzy each carrying with them data of human malice in certain forms. Once those eggs hatch, those seven digimon will be set on a path towards evolution like any other yet their peak will be beings whose malice so strong it could corrupt the Digital World itself. Negamon has been split into seven pieces each representing seven forms of human malice, and those forms evolve to become stronger than the eight crests.

It's funny how the themes here of negativity and positivity play off each other.
If we aren't reading into it too much, one could say that the internet represents shared the misery of humans and thus a great feeding ground for Negamon.
However, that small bit of isolation and personal growth through the lens of being "innocent children" is literally the opposite.
If that is the case, it's an even deeper philosophy here that the chosen are always children because they are the purest forms of courage, hope, light, friendship, etc. Makes me think this is the writers very subtly asking us to never let those things go as we get older.

They were definitely planting seeds all throughout the show for many of these things (like Angemon being reborn not just being a callback to 1999 but actually setting up the “rules” of rebirth)…I just wish they were a little more open about this stuff whenever they did mention it!
This series started with an Our War Game homage, so I think it'd be fitting to end on one.
With the Network now this critical element, and the human world being directly involved in the final battle, and Omegamon being described as an existence which can only manifest in our worlds through thoughts and prayers, they're really setting up for a moment where people around the world send messages of hope and support to the Chosen (with their Digimon friends doing the same on the other side), fueling their power and pushing Omegamon's abilities further and further and opening up the path to Alter-S.

Quartzmon nearly succeeded. He consumed both world entirely except for the protagonist and his digimon which managed to revert the consumption.
I'll quickly sum up my negative of this episode in that we didn't get any good fight choreography/animation. That being said I don't dislike this episode at all personally as we all know that this is a build-up episode plain and simple. With that out of the way, the episode itself...
My goodness we finally got the last bit of information we have needed. We now have justification on who Negamon is and what is its true purpose. Your summary on how all of it came to be, the clash the digital world's "instincts/ideals" was spot on as well so props to you there DigiKnow. I really like this take here, it's definately very original for Digimon as we've had similar aspects to this in the forms of Apocalymon and D-Reaper in previous seasons. But what also makes Negamon is so interesting is how its motive is a massive reflection on the Internet too, how it can be used for negativity. Negamon is not inherently evil but rather was a counterbalance to the crests that unfortunately saw the negative energy of the Internet and of course, Negamon being a creature that thrives on negative energy became addicted to it and now cannot stop consuming everything. It's a great motive. Negamon didn't need to be tragic but rather is an unstoppable primordial force in the form of a digimon. I am definately looking forward to seeing how it does in the coming episodes.
Negamon's massive mouths were very creepy. I do like that it managed to separate the kids from the digimon, this really was a final test for the kids alone to reaffirm their virtues. That being said I loved it when we get to hear "Be the Winners" for what I can assume is the last time we will hear that. Shame we didn't get X-Treme Fight on top of that either.
Also I think Algomon deserves the award for longest running bad guy in this show as it has appeared the most and survived after getting decimated by Omnimon. I'm not surprised this was his last hurrah either. Now we can definately say for certain he's not coming back after the Chosen's megas literally "chestbursted" him Aliens-style. :D
Can I also say that Komondomon, Gerbemon and Searchmon are the MVP's of this episode too?
So yes, negative being no awesome action sequences but that said, the lore dump more than makes up for it. Great build-up episode for the finale.

Komondomon's part was the best part of the episode (I teared up ngl) followed closely by Algomon dying from the mega transformations. Was not expecting those moments, so I greatly appreciated them.
Also, the lore explanation is very satisfying (I feel like I am just repeating myself) - especially the message "don't send anon hate or you will feed Negamon". That's nice. Though I am looking forward to Koushiro to used the Internet to win - feeding on the positivity there.

I do like what this show had to say but I do kind of resent that almost every time a piece of talks about the internet and social media it's conclusions are "internet bad, go outside" -- it isn't that simple. Im glad we got more information but it would have been great if we had it weaved throughout the story better instead of random dumps. With all the filler this season had it could have just been a 50 episode anime and it would have probably been better for it.
I do plan on rewatching the entire series once its over and I have the time. Seeing if it all works when having the full context for the show.

The revelations in this episode have me looking back at the entire series so far to see how it's changed the context in how I view it. For example, I was confused by what saved Tai and Agumon back in episode 30 but now after this episode my mind goes 'OH MY GOSH, that was the crest of courage manifesting in their will to live'. The implications are going to take some time for me to digest, but I'm super into this.
And yes I loved seeing Komondomon lending a hand, i've come to love that guy so much.
Yeah personally I’m also thinking about episode 24 with both Devimon going fully rage mode as DawnDevimon as well as Agumon dark digivolving into the rage mode Machibedramon. Both were becoming just these mindless ambassadors of destruction like Negamon / The Great Catastrophe / The Instinct To End wanted !
Izzy's big moment in operation satellite sniper comes to mind for another moment that the 'will to live and evolve' was tapped into.
This theme fits with Omegamon perfectly. Think about it, the end has come (Omega) to choose whether the circle continues or the circle gets broken.

the plot of the villians story seems very similar to that of the D-reaper of digimon tamers. A program originally created to control digivolutions, but couldn't keep up with the pace digimon evolution, so soom adapted and evolved itself to maintain digimon growth, and then saw the human world as a potential threat sense it was a source to the choas of the digital world.
For me, I just want to see if seraphimon will use his ultimate attack; Testament (The Big Bang). He's never used this ability ever in a digimon series and I'd like to see it.
My theory is that, negamon will succeed and erase the digital world, and seraphimon will reboot the digital world by creating a big bang which will restart life again in the digital world. This will ultimately allow patamon to prove devimon wrong about his views of the world ending enviably.
This is probably my favorite episode. I wouldnt have minded if half the episode was full evolution sequences to begin the battle but I feel they way it was handled was also fine. This shows that the action doesnt just stop so they can digivolve they had to digivolve at appropriate times and utilize the evolution energy itself since argomon mega wasnt going to give room to evolve. Skipping most champions showing clips of the ultimates and skipping most megas was reasonable to keep the pacing fast and matching break the chain. I also love that this is basically an animated digimon story cyber sleuth anime. The main enemy is a digital creature which consumes for the sake of it and exists just to consume and by consuming human data aka our internet data it corrupted its original purpose to an extreme. All of this is exactly like the eaters. The finaly villian is basically an eater created by the humans but in the form of a digimon. I love the way this turned out.

@@thedigiknow It also shows a lot of similarities to the plot of Tamers. The D-reaper was also a program meant to consume and delete old worn out programs. But it evolved when influanced by humans and digimon and then went to delete and/or consume everything. out of all 7 series 8 if you include appli monster This probably has the strongest plot you could ask for. You can see the love. The plot calls back to so many things and there are tons of cameos from other digimon series but a lot from xros wars which was popular in japan but almost killed digimon in the US.
I feel season two was the same way. The true story didn't happen til late in. The Azulongmon episode is where the pieces start coming together.
Quite some parallels here with the story of TFP's Unicron and Primus. Both were originally 1 being, but inner conflict between the 2 developing voices conversing back and forth eventually caused them to split. They would never be able to unite again due to irreconcilable differences. The creation of the Digivices can somewhat be a parallel to Primus creating the 13 Primes. Negamon seeks to consume and annihilate everything similar to Unicron. While the Chosen Children must act on behalf of the Digital World's instinct to survive to stop him similar to how the 13 Primes must stop Unicron.
I love how the plot relates to the human interactions on the internet. So many individuals who probably would not usually say certain things to people choose to do so on the internet due to anonymity and proximity. One could say that the internet became a way to release things normally kept hidden- both good and bad.

It was a solid episode! Loved the explanation, but my only gripe was the evolution. During the outro they have this cool blink evolution of agumon and gabumon going to mega. I would have loved that, but with all 8 of them at once avenger style

I said in one of your reviews that Negamon comes to be as a counter to the eight crests where it would have been a being created by human malice. Well I wasn't wrong that the Void now we know as Negamon was using human malice and negativity as energy to create his emissaries like Nidhoggmon and turn any and all major villains to weapons of destruction. But what caught me off guard this episode was that Negamon was an existence created by the instinct from the digital world to end the endless cycle of life and rebirth while the eight crests were the Digital World's instinct to continue as planned. Basically as you said, it was the Digital World trying to destroy itself while through the eight crests, it cried for help in search of human virtue and found the Chosen Children to be the partners of two of the Holy Digimon and the reincarnations of the Six Warriors. Basically the Digital World was searching for an answer whether it should continue to exist with its' endless cycle of life and rebirth and the divine rule of darwinism or end itself for good.
What I found even more surprising was that my speculations where Negamon was causing discord in the human world through the network and using data generated from the chaos as fuel was proven true but because of advancements to information technology via touch screens, social media and so on, Negamon gained far more negative data than expected which has driven it insane to where it doesn't just want to end the Digital World anymore as it had with Milleniumon but now wants to end all existence. In a way, like how the kindness of the Chosen Children have allowed their digimon to reach greater heights, human negativity on the internet has worsened Negamon turning it into that endless void. Calling Negamon the Void is super accurate it's not even funny anymore. This would ultimately mean the only existence that can counter a menace of the void empowered by human malice is an existence that is an embodiment of human virtue and that very existence is Omegamon.
Now a minor speculation from myself but I imagine with Negamon's demise it won't be the end because the Digital World then would continue its' endless cycle of rebirth. So I imagine Negamon cannot be truly defeated because there must be a balance to evolution and so Negamon instead enters into the network and creates new counters to the eight crests. As the eight crests represent light, the remains of Negamon would convert into dark crests that represents dark. I was thinking perhaps seven dark crests to represent the Seven Great Demon Lords but that is not something worth considering since that might lead to a possible D2 yet that is still in the air and from Digimon 2020 we gonna need something original if there are any plans to do that.

@@thedigiknow I personally have been staying neutral this whole series because II think this digimon series is quite decent especially when I'm someone who has been actively analyzing nearly every episode seeing what the motives of the antagonists were every episode.
Leomon is just sneaking around the bring the final blow.
The aspect of Negamon I loved especially was that hyper-consumption and addiction to it being the thing that threatens to drain the worlds of all their resources and totally end them. Makes me think specifically about global capitalist culture's emphasis on individual consumption setting up for ecological catastrophe, and that instinct to connect and find the power to save the world from catastrophe combatting that through embodied conscious connection. Consumption is necessary, but the culture we live in - and the way it manifests online - is driving the world to destruction. We need to think about what we value and really connect with others to save these things.
That part of Negamon wanting to end renewal is interesting for a number of reasons, but it also made me reflect on the addiction to negative energy on the internet. That drive to end suffering doesn't have to be so focussed on selfish consumption, it seems that drive could have been turned in a different more harmonious direction, but the overwhelming negativity of the online world leads to fatalism. Perhaps a bit too deep, but I would even go as far to say that it mirrors a lot of the passively suicidal, depressive hedonia of people online who are unable to think beyond the pleasure principle and thus are resigned to nihilism.

The Angemon and devimon being one and the same is interest concept yin yang, but every time there some important plot it became B plot . The A plot always get sided away. Wish the writer pace out foreshadow more with millennium mon . It’s like live action so we can get full episode of two depict past. I think lopmon had died tho in the ancient war, and then revive and get his memories back after seeing wargreymon. For patamon and tailmon, they survive but captured by the evil side. So they still have the memory this whole time.

Another thing is that they only know each other when the ancient war started. At that time they had already evolved into cherubimon, seraphimon and ofanimon. So they might not recognise each other when they are lopmon, patamon and tailmon. But I still feel weitd tho about thr fact that angemon and angewomon evolved into seraphimon and ofanimon and ended the ancient war. But then in valdurmon's image they had already evolved into seven holy digimon and led the good digimon in the ancient war.

Like maybe some people want it to destroy the kids digimon because they like it better, or people being scared of it etc and when they beat it a good number of people are upset that it died so it revives and then evolves into Niddhogmon as i gains the ability speak.
But instead of speaking normally it says nothing but nonsense, mainly saying what people were saying online.
This increases it's power to the point that it can explode.
This feels like yggdrasil's evolution testing with extra steps
Yes, one episode lore dumps so that the middle of the series can be filled with non linear progression that doesn't make sense without it. This is what you get with a weekly production, they just cut their main plots in a third and filled the blanks in with mini stories to push the kids development. Now for two percent of this series to reflect yamatos actual importance with omegamon. The writers probably wanted to just give taichi gabumon as well for less work but no. Show his significance in the first 3 eps and keep him low key until the last 3. Lol

In the original yamato had reflective anti social characteristics that lead to more complex situations, in his budding competition with taichi, to the point of a fight between megas and a separation of the core group. Much more than what he was given with the reboot. And its especially noticeable when he is half of the savior yet has barely got victories under his belt when it comes to metal garurumon, meanwhile taichi gets all the attention, which is fine. But being the only one seeing images of omegamon and being tested when he is only half, and spirit bomb terra forcing millenniumon himself is way less balanced than what we've been given. A lack of attention is no excuse for lack of developed importance. They pushed mimi and joe in a sorta close way that they could have done with taichi and yamato but chose to cheese it this way. Its just a noticeable drop of the ball in my opinion.

The story/plot sounds great but it's a thin outline amidts the structural mess the season otherwise has been. Negamon feeding on energy from the negative side of the internet - cool idea but show us some more. Let the children handle cyber bullying or something.
I haven’t seen a single episode of this series yet and only clips and your explanation videos. I’m sad about 02 cast potentially being expunged because of pegasumon apparently happening without the proper egg evolution. Idk how I feel about that yet lol. I wish ogremon, etemon, myotismon, dark masters, apocolyamon, and diaboromon could have had arcs included into this series with the other bad digimon as villains as well. I know they did more with Devimon because of your vids. Idk how millenniumon wasn’t the final villain tho or even how Chimeron wasn’t explained how it was there or who created it. Idk I actually need to watch this series. You have made it sound really good from everything you have posted that I just caught up watching. So its the Apocalymon character backstory and plot but recycled in a more intriguing way. Nice still feel ZeedMillenium should have been the actual threat and not misused before in the story instead of Negamon but same concept Fine at least theres cohesive plot and its not bad.
In the never ending story of Life and Death evolution plays a huge part of that so by killing of Negamon and allowing the cycle to continue unchecked we could get a really amazing opening to tell the x-antibody story were the digital world is getting out of hand and king drasil destroys it with the x-virus creating the x-antibody and I could definitely be behind that series
I don't think king drasil or even homeostasis exist in this reboot, given that the digital world needed feedback from the human world to decide whether to end or to continue existing

Yo the finale is starting to live up to its hype. I haven't seen a threat this big since lucimon from frontier trying to get to the real world. I get the sense that negamon has finally accumulated enough power to warp reality and make it's way to the real world. I mean imagine what would happen if it manages to get here and the world sees it in its entirety. The world would be thrown into chaos and negamon would feed off of it and become essentially a god of destruction. That's what's at stake along with the whole digital world and it has me on the edge of my seat. THIS is why I love digimon more than pokemon. Just to clarify I don't hate pokemon either (huge fan of it too btw) its just that the animes can't even compare. One show deals with a kid living in a slice of life adventure while the other has kids fighting cosmic entities and it's awesome lol

i enjoyed this reboot, but they could have done so much more. i wish they were rebooting the entirety of "adventure" (02 and tri). they could have even added in some of whats in the frontier series. having the 8 chosen digimon become the ancient elemental warriors. idk just sooo much potential wasted its aggravating. i love digimon for the lore (and digivolutions of course). the other series are cool but im tired of it constantly changing with every series. they could have connected all the different series together and just made this really epic reboot. but nah its just a one season reboot of basically the same story just with a few different villlains and what not. i dont like how they primarily focused on tai either. sorry for the rant lol

Summary:
- Aah, yee's, Lore. I have been waiting for this for some time.
- Animation quality => beneath average, especially last fight scene. Maybe 20 years ago this would have been acceptable/hype but now in 2021, NO.
- Interesting idea to use Gerbemon's trash can as a catapult. True MVP.
- Negamon while being still in the Baby 2 stage hasn't yet talk which I wait probably most right now.
Overall:
At some points, the animation was really bad but given we got a good amount of lore about Negamon, I cannot be too mad about it. But I can do a comparison that right now Negamon acts like D-reaper consuming everything in his path of destruction, but even D-reaper was able to talk so yeah. And originally in the games, Zeed's had an even better plan to conquer all realities so I could argue that Negamon end goals aren't that interesting to me. His motive isn't just so interesting to me right than comparing to other final villain's end goals.

I am actually not happy about what we got. It came out of nowhere, and no, the journey wasn't worth this sudden revelation. Yes, the idea is cool, and I like it, but it shouldn't have been just thrown in at the last three episodes. I rather have taken something like the dark masters again, than what we got here. We needed more buildup damn it =(

i agree that it’s a super interesting plot but it would have been better to get it throughout the show instead of at the very end it gives us no time to explore its kinda just like “here’s the plot now the show’s over” i think it shows the reboot had a lot of potential just not the best execution imo
