Definitely. Being Hispanic and having family members who are addicts - Esai portrayed the behaviors and attitudes of my uncles, one of whom is identical to Bob's mentality. La Bamba will always resonate with me due to growing up in a broken family with generations of addictions while trying to blend in with mainstream America.

Bob is that older brother that most people, including parents, kinda lose hope for. But despite his erratic behavior, Richie always looked up to him. Bob clearly ruined Richie's performance, but when Richie saw Bob get jumped by two guys he went and defended his older brother.
I have 3 brothers, and the youngest past away unexpectedly 2 years ago right before his 30th birthday. I miss him so much. Remind your family and loved ones that you love them as much as you possibly can. Every day, if possible. You just never know when will be the last time. The cold hard truth is that one day will be the last time you ever speak to them. My little brother called me at 3am the night before he past away. I am pretty sure he was drunk, and I wasnt interested in talking to him at the time. I still have the missed call on my phone, and I deeply regret not answering. I'd give anything to go back and answer that call. To this day, I don't even know why he called. Did he just want to talk sh*t because he was drunk? Or did he actually need me? I'll never know. I bring this up because Ritchie was Bob's little bro. I also feel bad for Bob, the black aheep of the family. Idk how true all that is, but they really treated him terribly.
My dad’s name is Bob and he had a black pompadour, he was short tempered and used to drink a lot. When I was young and this movie came to VHS it hit home for me in many was😂😢
Idk if anyone spots this but I thought it was a little clever of the director to put Rosie and Donna side by side considering Ritchie was soft on her at the beginning of the movie. When he blows that kiss you can see Rosie look at donna like ohhhh you're the girl he was waiting for before the show.

My mom's kids from her first marriage are like this. They get into trouble with the law and always blamed someone else for it and blamed my poor mom for not giving them money or something ridiculous. My mom passed unexpectedly a few years ago and I have decided to stay far away from them.

Fun Fact: On the Blu-ray edition of La Bamba there’re several deleted scenes not released priorly on DVD. There’s one filmed during this fight scene after Bob is punched where Richie’s “Flying Guitar” unhooks itself from the shoulder strap, flies down to Bob, knocks out the guy who punched him, then Bob jumps on the guitar before it flies him away to rehab for nine weeks followed by helping him send away for correspondence cartoon courses and smacking around Rosie so he could study in quiet. It was cut from the final film because the director thought it was too unbelievable even though it made the movie less accurate.
