With the bell one, my friend got a bell for his cat so that people would know he's a house cat, since there was a large issue with strays. Within a couple of weeks he was freaking out because he hardly ever heard the bell anymore and was worried that his cat was getting out of his workshop or something. In reality, his cat was hunting mice around the workshop and discovered the bell was alerting the mice and they would run away. The cat started with covering the bell with his paw, but that hindered his movements, so he learned how to move quietly and without much bounce so the bell wouldn't make any sound, then he got good enough that he could go in a full sprint, jump up on tables, etc. without the bell making any noise. Eventually my friend just got him a normal collar saying he wasn't a stray and just liked wandering, and he wasn't lost. That cat became the fear of the mice and rats because he could move completely silently and stand utterly still then ambush them. Also still freaks out my friend because he'll pop up silently and just make you wonder how long he was there. That bell made that cat into the ultimate killing machine. Mice and birds alike fell prey to that cat.
