That's why female cats never reject a newborn that's been handled by an Other Mother.
I was concerned about that, but it never happened. In the cat colony, they would do that because the other female cat would serve as midwife and help licking the kittens, biting the cords, grooming the birthing mother to encourage her, etc. You can find videos online, it's pretty cool. I, uh, would be much too squeamish if that happened to me. I don't think I could be any type of midwife, for anything. But I was happy to help handling the kittens after they were born. At one point she said "cats or dogs" everyone immediately said dogs. Of course, I said dogs because I have two that I love very much, and never owned a cat because of allergies in my family. Immediately I hear "cats are disgusting" "cats are awful" "I hate cats so much" "dogs are so much better" "cats are so evil" I felt my heart break. These TEENAGERS decided they hated cats, and clearly none of them had ever owned one before. I tried to justify their their ignorence and hatred, but couldn't.
