Every Sunday afternoon my Dad and I would slice potatoes paper thin and cook them on top of the wood stove. Used no fat, just the potato. You cannot imagine the taste of them. That was our special time. He made time for me. Loved him beyond any words that could be spoken. Matt and Tipper you bring such joy to this ole lady. Thank you.❤
I haven't had a TV in years and years. I can't stand foul language and don't like being lied to. Why pay for it?
I haven't had a TV in 10 years
Back in the 50's I wanted to watch some Saturday morning cartoons, and my grandma said go outside and play, TV will make you stupid, to this day I don't watch TV. She was right, look at people and how they behave.
Amen!!!
For about 13 years now, ive either had zero tv (and internet, or just tv and an old fashioned antenna, to now just basic internet and tv with old fashioned antenna. I never turn it on, it’s set off in case internet goes out and I need to see something on news or weather/local station. I get like 18 channels. All major networks, couple pbs stations, various movie type channels. Haven’t checked in a long time, it’s a dust collector. I got the antenna online for like 30-45.00, wasn’t much.
I don't watch TV except the local news. I prefer TH-cam. I can watch good clean entertainment by good people.
I love to watch the tranquility between you and Matt. After all the yrs together you both seen so content just to be together. What a sweet love.
People like you is what made this nation great. God Bless
The TH-cam channel you mentioned is “Early American” and their other channel is “Frontier Patriot” where they eat what was cooked and have a discussion about it and other things. They’re good channels and she’s amazing at open hearth cooking. They’re building a house and a open hearth will be a part of it.
So sweet of your hubby to cook for you-♥️❤️♥️
Thank you for visiting with us 😀
I remember my grandmother cooking on the wood stove!! My grandmother raised eight children never had a bathroom just an outhouse !! No running water had to carry water!! I have to believe my grandmother faith is what got that woman through her tough life!! It had to be her faith she read her bible every night!! My grandmother got up early to make the fire made the best hot coca that I have not tasted since !! My grandmother cooked all her meals on the old cook stove they were amazing!! I hope she has a special place in heaven she certainly deserves that!!
Thats the way I grew up! Sounds alot like my life. We never had inside plumbing. No water, no bathroom either. Momma cooked on a Wood Stove and it heated the house at the same time. We'd take a bath in big old round Washtub out back or either in the creek in the summer. In the winter we'd use what we called a Foot Tub! Had to draw water from the Well and heat on the stove for Cooking, washing dishes, taking baths, washing clothes, etc... Anything you needed water for had to be drawed out the Well. There were 13 of us and never was a slow rest day for Daddy, Momma or us older kids. I was next to the oldest. I had a brother older than me. Me being the oldest girl, my work was never done! I scrubbed many a diapers on a scrub board outside the house. I've worked my whole life. Now, my work days are gone. I'm enjoying my Great Grandchildren! God Bless. 🙏❤👏😁
@@karensweet6530 Thank you loved hearing a piece of your life!! Sounds just like my grandmother home the older kids had to scrub those nasty diapers winter time could be brutal!! You deserve to set back and enjoy the little ones!!
It is so peaceful to watch and listen to you both. Thank you for sharing. Love it. ❤
Thank you so much!
My dad had a heavy construction company when I was growing up so his day started before dawn. In the winter he would get a fire roaring in the fireplace then wake us kids up for school. I remember being soooo cold and running into the living room to warm first the front then the back - then run back into the bedroom to get dressed. I never did ask why it had to be so cold in the house. We just never questioned our folks.
Thank you for watching!
When I was young my family stayed in my grand mother's cabin all summer , my father came up on the weekends, my beloved mother was a master at cooking on a wood stove , the smells still radiate in my senses especially during these holidays, we also had a puffer belly stove outside to heat hot water for bathing . I'm 73 now and still dream about helping my mom in our cabin kitchen bake bread everyday and prepare meals , I love my current appliances, but wish I would get a chance some day to give my children and grand , great grandchildren the joy of a true family life with no phones etc ❤❤❤
Sitting out here in my cabin that’s almost finished with no electricity and a kerosene lamp watching your video and the flames coming off my wood stove. Doesn’t get any better
Love that setting 😀
Congratulations on being almost finished. A dream come true.
We use my great grandmother’s oil lamps. Love them so much.
I just love you Tipper. You talk just like my family. You said ray-man noodles instead of ra-men noodles. I just love how we talk. We are country (Appalachian) and we understand each other even if others don’t. The voices of North Carolina are my music. Have a good week and thank you for the cozy conversation.
I love you guys from Mo
I love that Matt doesn't skimp on the butter!!!😂
I noticed that too 😂
You two remind me of my parents. For as far back as I can remember, later in the evening (when I should have been asleep) they sat at the kitchen table and had some toast and a cup of coffee. They never ran out of things to say to one another. This continued until the day my precious dad left this earth. Loved them both so much. ❤️🇨🇦
This was so peaceful. Thank you ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
I taught my 1-year-old great granddaughter how to make biscuits. They were rough looking, but she can make them. She loves cooking, and she caught on really quickly.
That is fantastic! Only 1 year old and she has an important survival skill already. She’s going to be successful in life and that makes you feel good as a grandmother!
🎉love your show, i was born in kentucky ,we used a wood cook stove.back then too.❤😊
You guys don’t realize how you help so many , by just coming in to our homes on these cold days and just talk. God will bless you in special ways. You are good people, and we love you , ❤
Kids are really amazing in their capacity to learn. They have no fear of messing up and they don’t care if it doesn’t look perfect.
Good morning to Tipper and Matt, just wanted to say when I saw Matt make his pressed coffee in the garage I about fell off my chair. I was thrilled to know that another person has discovered the amazing flavor of pressed coffee. It truly elevates the coffee to another level of texture and taste. I make my own pressed coffee as well and have described the texture as velvety and the taste is beyond compare to regular brewed coffee.
Then to watch him very obviously enjoy that amazing cup of coffee and make the comment that he hadn’t had such a good cup in a while ……….. just made my heart happy. Kudos to you, Matt. Would love to have a cuppa pressed coffee with you and Tipper around the woodstove one of these days.
You all remind me of my upbringing so much, GOD bless you all.
I gave my hubs the link to that coffee press as a Christmas gift for me 😊 I’d love to try that coffee!
Y’all are the sweetest cutest couple! I love watching you both! 💗
Thank you so much!!
I also have a wood cook stove- And I’m so thankful it almost runs me out of my little dwelling 💗
I love the heat 😀
I chuckled at first at Matt's "how to cook popcorn" story, but then considered that kids nowadays would have no idea how to do it without the bags and such; so while it may have been "an embarrassment" back then I'm guessing it's rather an eye-opener today!
Always love your talks with Matt. I dont subcribe to many channels but I have all of yours and the girls. The other channels I watch are Early American and Frontier Patriot. She cooks over an open fire on EA and then they eat what she cooks on FP. Lovely young Christian couple . They go over American history which I love. Every week we learn something new about you two. Matt cooking for himself and you wanting to learn to cook at a young age. Your videos are awesome and I would rather watch you than anything onTV.
Back when I was growing up in the late 1940s, 1950s, and early 1960s, Mother and Dad had a wood stove going in the early Spring, late Fall, and most of the Winter. They also had a propane range. Mother would put pots of beans or soup on the wood stove cooking or teakettles boiling away. Baking and other cooking was on the propane stove. This gave wonderful smells and saved money because what was cooked on the wood stove did not use propane. With 47 1/2 acres of woods there was always downed and dead trees that needed to be cleared away to keep the woods healthy. Therefore, a wood stove made good sense.
We used to cook soup beans on ours
Yep, soup beans and cornbread a couple days a week. 😊
We always have a lot of fun shopping for our tree. Enjoyed the video ❤❤
It does me good to set in with y’all. Thank you much.
There's nothing like coffee or tea made on a woodstove. An egg sandwich sounds fantastic! Stay safe, gang!
I love egg sandwiches with mayo. I don’t need sausage, but most men want the meat included.
My momma cooked on a wood stove for 30 years, it was so hot in the summer. I was the lead child in gathering wood for it. My dad passed away and I had four siblings younger than myself so I dropped out of school and went to work in a textile mill and bought her an electric stove on the payment plan. We also moved to a better house with running water when before we drew it from a well with a bucket, rope and tickle.
Thank you for sharing about your life 😀
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I hope in my next life I’m cozy around the stove wit y’all. Soooo excited to see two new lil faces in 2024 🙏♥️🐣🐣
You mentioned a TH-cam Channel where the couple are reinacators who cook over an open fire. Could it be Early American with Justine and Ron? If so, I really enjoy their videos. Justine cooks authentic historical recipes, and there is no talking, just cooking. It's relaxing and interesting to watch her cook using old methods.
😊 That's it
So great to hear Granny called for Turkey...sounds like she is doing pretty well and hasn't lost her appetite ❤
My parents had a woodstove in their house in Taylorstown, VA. They mostly used it for heating the kitchen, not sure they ever cooked on it. The dogs used to love lying near that stove. Their Jack Russell Terrier would actually end up underneath the stove, which we wouldn't notice until she would come out a little later panting and wanting to cool off.
Thanks for sharing!❤
My grandmother on my dad's side had a wood stove in the front yard that she cooked on in the summer so the house wouldn't heat up. She always had a big pot of green beans with red potatoes and/ or a big pot of corn on the cob. So good. She did her canning on that stove too. On my mom's side - all her stepmom ever cooked on was a wood stove. She made the best biscuits and gravy I ever have had anywhere was cooked by her on that stove. Precious memories...
That was relaxing, enjoyed the visit 🙂
When I was a child, my gram had a farm, I stayed with her often, for weeks at a time. My great uncle lived there in a little cabin and heated and cooked with a wood stove. A full size stove where you would lift the burners to add wood. I loved that cabin and ate many grilled cheese sandwiches and bowls of soup from that stove. Those were such good, happy years, those years on that farm. Chickens and every fruit tree we could grow, lots of corn and tomatoes and other vegetables... so good.
Looks delicious and very peaceful
Great video. I can relate to your family in so many ways. Watching your videos is a real blessing. Thank y'all for sharing. Blessed! 🤗🙏💕
One of the things I love about your channel is the natural cadence between you and Matt, including humor! I also appreciate the peaceful nature of Appalachian living you both are able to share with us. Tipper, what drew me to your channel initially was your story telling gift and your manner of speaking which is interesting and soothing. Feels like I'm listening to family. One example is when you give a recipe and don't just share ingredients but also the story of the woman who taught you.
Love listening to yall and hear about when yall were young.
I really enjoyed this video a lot! There are so many things we can fix to eat that are easy to make and that we enjoy. 🎉
As always, I enjoyed the visit with you both! Enjoy your evening. God bless!
How very nice - I enjoy your channel so much - I've always had a fascination with the Appy Mts., the history of the people, the learning about the land - again and always, Thank you all for sharing your piece of heaven in earth with us all. 😊❤
Love listening to you both talking about your life
It’s so nice to have a man around the house ❤ love you two
Just love this channel!! Brings back the best of memories!!
Matt is such a Cool Gentleman much like my Daddy 😂
I love sitting around listening to you two. Just home folks!
That is a cool little coffee press! Thanks for the idea!
Thanks for the good chuckle, Matt! 🍿
That meal looked delicious! Thank you for sharing Tipper and Matt. I hope you got your rest 😊
That’s some of the best cookin there is! I hope y’all had a Happy Thanksgiving!
Always fun to join yall in a fireside chat! Frontier Patoriate....great channel! Awesome 'burnch'!!
How sweet was that!!! Matt is a special man to cook for you!!! God Bless Us All!!!
Thanks for the chitchat Matt and Tipper!❤️🇨🇦🙏
I love these videos when you just sit and tell your stories. Feels just like goin to visit an Aunty and Uncle.
Good brunch, warm stove, and good stories from you both. Thanks for sharing with us.
When my Grandmother upgraded to an electric stove, they kept the original wood stove and put it in the basement. It was a really nice one as I remember. The only thing she cooked on it once she moved it to the basement was chitterlings. When she was cooking those, I could smell them quite a ways from the house as I walked home from the bus stop.
Good laughs. Thank you Tipper
As always I love hearing your stories. Memories to hold on to. Being able to sit by and cook breakfast on the stove. God bless you both!
Love the talk today!
Great visit. You got a mighty fine man. God Bless.💛& 🙏🙏ers for Granny. Jean
I always enjoy visiting with you when I can. Your family lifts my spirits. ❤
I'm so glad! Thank you 😊
Love you both. ❤️❤️
I used to cook everything we ate during primitive camping. Everything and it tasted great too. Plus the evening dessert of s’mores or mountain pies. Ohhh I can smell it now. Good job Matt. Those stoves are wonderful and especially when the power goes out. Heat and cook. And throw your food out in a snow pile. Simple life kinda.
Thank you Matt and Tipper your food looks so good . Early American with Ron and Justine is one I watch .Have a good week stay safe . God bless your family
I love you guys. You’re all such a great family to watch. I love hearing the stories you tell, and all the families goin’s on. It almost feels like I’m part of the family, watching updates on what’s happening. 😊
Hey Tipper &Matt, You two are just a joy to listen to and watch. Y’all have wonderful marriage. Thanks so much for sharing! You make my day so much better! ❤️& Prayers
You guys are making me hungry! That sandwich crunch sounds really tasty... good job Matt.
Absolutely love this video…watched it multiple times.😊
Another good one. I thoroughly enjoy hangin out with My People! Some of my family here in SW VA had wood cook stoves, collected spring/creek water in milk cans, and used the old wooden house over the hole up until the late 70's. Nuthin wrong with that, but of course, they were thankful when they got the upgrades to electric and "indoor"! Great memories.
Looks really good.
I love to spend my time reading as well. So good for your brain too. Can't remember when I last had t.v. never miss it. Your breakfast looked delish!
Enjoy your rest day. Getting a little bit frosty and cold here in southern Oregon . Keep up the good work you two. We appreciate you!
Would love one of those sandwiches, Matt! I have to say that I think you, Tipper and Matt are two of the hardest workers I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing! God bless and love to all! 💕🤗🙏🏻
I love cook on Woodstove it tastes so good it's blessing to have a good chef God bless yall and your family
Your woodstove breakfast looked so wonderful! I agree, it would be such a learning curve to figure out how to cook completely on a woodstove when we are so used to electric or gas. Loved listening to you two reminisce with old stories and sharing your afternoon with us. 🙂
Wonderful, up building and practical thoughts and advise.
Hi y'all my first thought was look how pretty that pan is !! Cleaned my cast iron pans today ...thanks for the video❤
It was a fun video to watch
I enjoyed listening to y’all talk. It brings back so many childhood memories of my own family. It’s supposed to be in the twenties Monday through Wednesday with Tues night down to the low 22 degrees. I’m in Harnett County, NC. So I’m guessing y’all will get even lower up in the mountains.
I love the stories Matt tells.. It's so nice for him to cook for Tipper.. Love these two..God bless..🇺🇸🌹❤️
We are sitting near our woodstove right now . 40 degrees out with North wind. I love the heat and am so appreciative for it. It's the best heat you can have.
Greetings from North Texas! We so appreciate your posts! Happy Holidays!
So glad you enjoy them 😀
This just reminded me of my granny cooking in her wood stove. She had a gas stove in the kitchen but preferred to cook with her wood cook stove. It was nice and toasty in the winter but summertime turned her whole house into an oven but her food was always the best!
That looked delicious! Love the idea of cooking on a wood burner. My husband and I camped every weekend when we were young and cooking over wood coals can be tricky. Anyway I loved listening to the conversation ❤
My grandma had both a wood Cookstove and a electric stove. She also had a refrigerator and a wooden ice box as well. As I young girl i remember she would use her cast iron wood stove to bake her wonderful prune bread made in big black baking pans.
Enjoyed the chat. Sandwiches looked delicious! I have fond memories of my Granny cooking on a huge wood stove when I was growing up (in winter time, I would crawl behind it to warm up) she continued cooking on it even after getting an electric stove…my parents had a huge wood stove to heat their house & mama would cook beans & fry cornbread on it when it was really cold….most of the time it got so hot they had to open windows…lol..Continued prayers for Granny, and your family ❤
Yes, I have watched that channel with the woman cooking in her hearth. She has gotten really good at it and it is fun to watch.
Everyone stay warm its really cold here today and going to be most of the week down in teens at night high 30s daytime .
Great Video love These kind of you and matt just talking 💞
It's so comforting to watch your videos and to get to hang with you for a while and reconnect to the important things in life. This world is getting more and more crazy, but you help us stay grounded ❤
Amen to good home cooking🌲🌲
This was the best visit!! 🤗
That brunch looks good! 😘 So nice of Matt to make it for you! Reading books or watching your family's channels is much better than television. It's been years since I had a set...I figure if I have to see news or a program, I can find it on the internet 😀 I was waiting for Binks the cat to pay a visit, but I guess he only comes round when Katie's down there working. Good to have a day of rest. Thanks for this video 😊
Sweet of Matt to cook breakfast. We watch very little on tv. Nothing but junk. We enjoy watching your sweet family! Take care and God bless y’all! 😀♥️
MATT is sure nurturing!! lucky you Tipper! enjoy your day and rest! God bless both of you!! sausage and egg, sounds yummy and hot chocolate..double yummy!
Ok, I"m back in the "Tipper and Matt groove"=cooking my dinner while watching you cook food too. It's the little things in life. At least for this old lady LOL! PS. Thanks for putting the Thank You Lord song by the girls on shorts so it will play over and over again while I pray.
Really good☕🍳🍞, glad to have my meal while you enjoyed yours !
What a nice video you two share so much and are so lucky to have each other. Here's to the both of you Matt and Tipper!
Thank you Buz!!
Hi Tipper and Matt. Very nice vid. Yes all of those who went before us had hard lives but passed on the info to us. Matt has all the info! Love your comfy basement. Karla in Cali.
You have a lot of blessings to be thankful for.
Great conversation on a chilly day. I'm starting to use the word "airish" around here to describe cool days. Maybe I can get others to use it & that would be fun to bring some of Appalachia to Texas! Thanks for sharing your morning with us. Hugs!
