Yep same for me. First game of EDH. With Gavi precon (ikoria). I sat at a table, they all said "yeah precon sure". It was against Tinybones stax, Urza stax and Najeela Tempo. Contamination was dropped turn 3. And i just watched them for 45min...
I just got into commander after swearing I would never play it (for no particular reason) first game using the new peace offering deck was against a wheels deck and a thrasios/vial smasher glacial chasm deck... yeah
Gotta love that, even with the bonkers starting hand, he didn't even think of slow playing it. Dude could have just land passed, or even just turn one sol ring. He saw the play and tilted fully into it.
When a player puts more spells on table its good to get that exposure especially for new players. I lost 100 games before I won my first and I owe it all to the experienced players who didn't hold back.

@@jayrob3 no you can just throw in 1 expensive dual land and increase your price by a huge amount without actually making the deck much better, price isnt everything, you can easily make a really strong deck for under 100 bucks but you can also make really bad decks for a lot of money. at some point you need money to get the last bit of optimisation etc but you can get a long way with a low budget
@@austinpilgrim9691 Three Visits lets you search for any forest, including nonbasics. It's a really good card to pull triomes and such out. If he's running mono green, he's not maximizing utility, but he certainly is in a good spot for the next few turns.
It really isn't too bad, he only has one card left in his hand after all that and let's pray to the MTG gods that it's a land and the next card he draws is also a land. 🙏
Commander is Ruric Thar, so no card draw there, single card in hand, unless it's a really strong crad draw effect, indeed nothing too bad happening there.
Reminds me of an event my local card shop runs where you get a randomly assigned commander and have to make a deck from their bulk commons and uncommons. I drew literally every ramp tool in my entire deck able to combo about 4 things turn 2... I had literally zero follow up to capitalize on that, but they all got scared. I was dead shortly after.
I think the rocks would be fine if it were just a colorless deck. That's basically a green player on turn four and it takes a miracle to have a crypt, ring, and signet in the opening hand. He just needs Burnished Hart and Myriad Landscape
Two of my friends and I decided to try some precons at our local LGS. A guy offered to fill the open seat. He played a Nekusar infinite turns cEDH deck. We do not play at that LGS anymore.

That happened to my gf and I, we both are super new playing precons. Two people ask if they can play with us, we are like sure that's fine. (We forgot to tell them we were extremely new, but it was still fairly obvious with our questions and missplays.) Within 5 turns they were pretty much playing by themselves with us just playing a land or something since we couldn't keep anything on the board due to their board strength. We had absolutely zero idea of what was happening on their side other than their combos were popping off
Not that this isn't true for you, but it's certainly not for most people. The cards left behind must be worth more than the precon price for it to be cost efficient and that is usually not the case based on online lists.
@@IBreakGamez no whats cost efficient is having the cards in the precon you continue to use be worth more than what the precon is worth. Even if every card you swap in is cheap if the value of what was from the original precon is less than the purchase price you've lost money
I would recommend checking single prices on a precon before buying especially if you just want to try the newly printed cards. It sucks to buy a precon when 15-20 of the cards aren't on theme or are easily acquired elsewhere. It would be better if Wizards would reprint cards in precons that people actually want like shocklands, triomes, and fetches. Also, are websites like EDHREC good for deck ideas, or homogenizing and bad?
Happened to me tonight. I was playing jank. Go turn one remora and guy strip mines me after playing a turn 1 4/4… i just scooped and left because he played competitive decks all night and i just wanted some jank times
I just did this to my buddy today. I played Karn Silver Golem. Turn one was a warped landscape, turn two was a waste, sol ring. Turn three ugin the inneffable playing my hand for free to do a turn 3 infinite combo with access to draw.

@@stevendefeo8424 yeah, that's why I've built ten different decks. 5 for fun and 3 for throwing a consistent dicking to spice games up if we're running a full pod or just obliterate a deck in single, 1 for a consistent table sweep into hell unless my opponents are running nothing but removal, and 1 that can barely walk but occasionally let's someone know that their deck was in fact not good and was indeed a tier 0.

Then if we get an actual day off we head out somewhere for some casual or just play a game or two of our slowest decks or swig up a different game.

Everyone in my group loves precons. We also love building decks. So we have a *very* strict homerule. There are precon games and nonprecon games. *And never the twain shall meet.* Much funner games this way honestly. We also have "testing new deck" games where we each grab something we think is on the same level but ee haven't played yet. Listen ik it sounds like a lot of rules but since we've implemented these different tier of games this kind of shit does not happen anymore. No one feels stilted bc they're 30 upgrade to a precon is going up against someone else's $1000 baby that they've been crafting for two years now.
My favorite edh memory is going to the shop to buy cards, spotting 3 man pod and asking to join "Were cedh are u sure" Like turn 3 went infinite with memnarch then left 😂

The Battle cards kind of feel like optional objectives to me. First you start by getting a sorcery cast that has varying degrees of effectiveness, and then the opportunity to leverage that into extra board advantage. Personally I'd try to at least chump block any battle given to me just to give my opponents something to aim at instead of my life total, and to deny them something they want so they're more likely to waste resources
This what how my first commander game went except it was me and another player with precons and the other two guys playing like the last guy. We didn’t get to see turn 6 either game.
Was in a game once where player 3 dropped like 4 rocks and an enchantment after myself and the first guy did "Land, pass" player 4 asked 3 if he was sure he wanted to do that. Gave him a couple of chances to take back some rocks. When he didn't, player 4 dropped 2 rituals, simian spirit guide, and overloaded a vandal blast. Legit thought player 3 was going to cry he was just staring at the table haha
As a completly new magic player ive js bought and sleeved draconic destruction. Im excited to head up to the shop to play im gonna buy a booster box and try and build one myself using the precon as a template
Its very possible. If player two was able to dump his whole hand on turn two with rocks, lands, and ramp, it probably means his deck is still stacked from the previous game. He'll be top decking lands for the next 8 turns, especially if hes green.
This happens to me every time at my LGS. All I want to do is play my upgraded Precons and every table has at least one or two players packing a super Competitive level deck that wins before I can even get started. My first ever game of Commander at my LGS was with a newly purchased Faerie Precon from Wilds of Eldraine, and the player right next to me was playing The Ur-Dragon. And Mana Crypt is absolutely not a Casual EDH card at all. It’s way too expensive on top of being way too good of an opener. If anything I don’t think Mana Crypt is should not be allowed in any deck that has Green. Green has enough good ramp even at the Common and Uncommon rarities.
I always remember that one guy that played mono blue deck against me when I was playing a precon right out of the deck. It was a three pod but he singlehandedly countered and/or bounced all my stuff while the other player, who wasn't playing a precon btw, did whatever he wanted to do.
He has a lot of fuel, but no engine to burn it in. So it's not that bad until he draws the haymakers, which could take a while as most green card draw is based on having a lot of creatures or having high power ones enter.
Some people have this insane need to win. I went to a commander event. Dude holding the event came in the room an yelled who has a deck that wins turn one? No one said anything. He asked who has a deck that wins by turn 7? Again no one said anything. Got in a pod and dude literally killed all 3 of us turn 7. It would’ve been turn 6, but someone countered part of his win con. He was salty as all hell to. Like oh big deal my guy you were delayed a whole turn. Dudes that do this are the same ones that will flip a table, call you a cheater or yell about how “if they just got that one card.” What’s even better is he was even angrier cause instead of scooping I made him play out the whole thing and sacrifice a permanent for every point of damage. Did you win? Yes. Did I make you sit there and be a salty winner? Also yes.
Ive recently started playing magic, and ive ONLY gotten to play with people like #4. 2 new precons i wanted to play, didnt even get past turn 4 before games were over.
He's ramped a lot and had a good draw but the only very powerful non sol ring card is crypt which is iffy at best since sol ring is fine. He has 1-2 cards left and without a followup it's still a game
Last Saturday I had a game where I played an upgraded Leynora precon and the whole table of decks that were much more powerful focused me the entire game because all I did for the first four turns was just ramping lands
I've been trying to test my new LOTR knights precon for two straight weeks and I keep getting obliterated because "they don't want to risk my deck's mechanic" 🤦♂️😔 Not complaining but damn! It's fucking annoying! 🔥 Video btw, bro! Funny AF every time! 😂
Pre-cons used to be able to hold their own. That was the best part of commander. Now every commander deck is the same pile of the same value cards with minor differences.
I mean depends on what the one card in hand is, the essence warden isn't a crazy threat. He has a bunch of mana and nothing to cast if he proceeds to whiff the mana crypt can kill him slowly
Buddy ran the MoM knights precon last night just to run it before tearing it down, us three other players had bad lawn draws, his precon's running at 100% and he whupped us. It hurts losing to a stock precon. :(

I just did this to my buddy today. I played Karn Silver Golem. Turn one was a warped landscape, turn two was a waste, sol ring. Turn three ugin the inneffable playing my hand for free to do a turn 3 infinite combo with access to draw.
Why do y’all want to play a new game so fast? Like you just shuffled for a game and now 5 minutes later it’s time for a new game. Sounds terrible. How is that fun? If all you care about is winning and not having a good time then maybe.
@@stevendefeo8424 yeah, that's why I've built ten different decks. 5 for fun and 3 for throwing a consistent dicking to spice games up if we're running a full pod or just obliterate a deck in single, 1 for a consistent table sweep into hell unless my opponents are running nothing but removal, and 1 that can barely walk but occasionally let's someone know that their deck was in fact not good and was indeed a tier 0.
@@stevendefeo8424 my friend and I like to play faster paced solo games because we often play in between shifts and can't play for long. So we just run out like 5 to 3 games on some weekends. Then if we get an actual day off we head out somewhere for some casual or just play a game or two of our slowest decks or swig up a different game.

At lgs i go to the owner like me to have play people with precon decks against my koma stax/land destruction and tokens deck in archenemy commander deck style so i can help them learn play use team work and any other stuff like that. But i am very much like player 4 when play mtg. Cool video.
Reminds me when I started. Made a deck out of scraps ( Believe it was Sheshra from Forgotten Realms )….. Opponent plays entomb->reanimate on Ulamog T1 and just runs away
Everyone in my group loves precons. We also love building decks. So we have a *very* strict homerule. There are precon games and nonprecon games.

Much funner games this way honestly. We also have "testing new deck" games where we each grab something we think is on the same level but ee haven't played yet. Listen ik it sounds like a lot of rules but since we've implemented these different tier of games this kind of shit does not happen anymore. No one feels stilted bc they're 30 upgrade to a precon is going up against someone else's $1000 baby that they've been crafting for two years now.

the commander was kuldotha, he played gilded drake on the commander of my friend (Ivy voltron) and voidwalker (I played osgir reanimator)
The Battle cards kind of feel like optional objectives to me. First you start by getting a sorcery cast that has varying degrees of effectiveness, and then the opportunity to leverage that into extra board advantage. Personally I'd try to at least chump block any battle given to me just to give my opponents something to aim at instead of my life total, and to deny them something they want so they're more likely to waste resources
This what how my first commander game went except it was me and another player with precons and the other two guys playing like the last guy. We didn’t get to see turn 6 either game.

T1 forest soul ring
T2 forest explore 3visits land
T3 mana crypt and go

Was in a game once where player 3 dropped like 4 rocks and an enchantment after myself and the first guy did "Land, pass" player 4 asked 3 if he was sure he wanted to do that. Gave him a couple of chances to take back some rocks. When he didn't, player 4 dropped 2 rituals, simian spirit guide, and overloaded a vandal blast. Legit thought player 3 was going to cry he was just staring at the table haha

As a completly new magic player ive js bought and sleeved draconic destruction. Im excited to head up to the shop to play im gonna buy a booster box and try and build one myself using the precon as a template

Its very possible. If player two was able to dump his whole hand on turn two with rocks, lands, and ramp, it probably means his deck is still stacked from the previous game. He'll be top decking lands for the next 8 turns, especially if hes green.
This happens to me every time at my LGS. All I want to do is play my upgraded Precons and every table has at least one or two players packing a super Competitive level deck that wins before I can even get started. My first ever game of Commander at my LGS was with a newly purchased Faerie Precon from Wilds of Eldraine, and the player right next to me was playing The Ur-Dragon.
And Mana Crypt is absolutely not a Casual EDH card at all. It’s way too expensive on top of being way too good of an opener. If anything I don’t think Mana Crypt is should not be allowed in any deck that has Green. Green has enough good ramp even at the Common and Uncommon rarities.

I always remember that one guy that played mono blue deck against me when I was playing a precon right out of the deck. It was a three pod but he singlehandedly countered and/or bounced all my stuff while the other player, who wasn't playing a precon btw, did whatever he wanted to do.
Yeah theses were ALL of my friends. Thats why i built a deck around winter orb. Have fun untapping one card per turn

Yeah, 8 mana turn one, that looked like me playing colourless Eldrazi EDH and hard cast my commander on turn 3. Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre 👌👌
When you have a crypt for your colorless deck but you run the wrong titan as commander. Everyone, may I present a magic player.
This is just more reasons why every precon should have fast Mana and proper untapped dual lands (like the battle bond lands)
Literally can't upvote this enough.
He has a lot of fuel, but no engine to burn it in. So it's not that bad until he draws the haymakers, which could take a while as most green card draw is based on having a lot of creatures or having high power ones enter.
For all you know hid last card in hand is WoF though

Some people have this insane need to win. I went to a commander event. Dude holding the event came in the room an yelled who has a deck that wins turn one? No one said anything. He asked who has a deck that wins by turn 7? Again no one said anything. Got in a pod and dude literally killed all 3 of us turn 7. It would’ve been turn 6, but someone countered part of his win con. He was salty as all hell to. Like oh big deal my guy you were delayed a whole turn. Dudes that do this are the same ones that will flip a table, call you a cheater or yell about how “if they just got that one card.” What’s even better is he was even angrier cause instead of scooping I made him play out the whole thing and sacrifice a permanent for every point of damage. Did you win? Yes. Did I make you sit there and be a salty winner? Also yes.

Ive recently started playing magic, and ive ONLY gotten to play with people like #4. 2 new precons i wanted to play, didnt even get past turn 4 before games were over.
That's just dirty what the green player did. Excellent play when running comp. But that was dirty.

In a way it reminds me of sacrificing Steve four turns in a row with my Muldrotha deck.
He's ramped a lot and had a good draw but the only very powerful non sol ring card is crypt which is iffy at best since sol ring is fine. He has 1-2 cards left and without a followup it's still a game
Last Saturday I had a game where I played an upgraded Leynora precon and the whole table of decks that were much more powerful focused me the entire game because all I did for the first four turns was just ramping lands
The fact that none of the cards match the edited cards on screen is dedication

I've been trying to test my new LOTR knights precon for two straight weeks and I keep getting obliterated because "they don't want to risk my deck's mechanic" 🤦♂️😔

There are some pre cons that make that opening look like light work after a couple of turns.
Pre-cons used to be able to hold their own. That was the best part of commander. Now every commander deck is the same pile of the same value cards with minor differences.
Me building a brand new deck and trying to work the kinks out and that one guy just stomping the shit out of me.
Tbf, if that person is in your playgroup, it helps you learn where the kinks are.

Buddy ran the MoM knights precon last night just to run it before tearing it down, us three other players had bad lawn draws, his precon's running at 100% and he whupped us. It hurts losing to a stock precon. :(
Some precons are just disgusting tho and already hit power 7 or 8 like look at the 40k precons
