- Ernie describes how he fell for the lure of the open road behind the wheel of The Sunbum: he got hooked at an RV show at Dodger Stadium. Don Rickles said how about getting a beach house at Malibu? Ernie said no way, I'm hitting the open road behind a bus!
Ernie's family must be very proud of him. A truly great down to earth guy. Hollywood didn't change Ernie. RIP Ernie.
He’s a real class act and humble Hollywood today could learn a lot from this man.

He just seemed like such a nice man. I'll bet just sitting with him for coffee and breakfast and chatting would have been a great experience.
My Grandfather was the absolute twin to Mr Borgnine. He was always mistaken for him, he was built like him, sounded like him, had the same mannerisms, same laugh, same build, even same glasses. He was a truck driver and seeing Mr. Bofgnine enjoying driving and mingling with truck drivers is a real joy to see. I lost my grandfather in 1987 when he was only 59 years old. Everytime afterwards when I would see Mr. Bornine in a movie or TV show I always had to watch it for to me I was seeing my grandfather. When Mr Borgnine passed away i felt as though i lost my grandfather.

TOVA HAD GIVEN DAVID UP FOR ADOPTION AS AN UNWED 17 YEAR OLD TEENAGER, WHEN HE WAS AN INFANT.
ERNEST REALLY SEEMED TO PAVE HIS OWN PATH AWAY FROM THE HOLLYWOOD GLITTER WHEN HE WASN'T WORKING ON A FILM, STAGE ETC. PROJECT. MAY HE RIP. BTW, ' MARTY ' IS STILL POIGNANT TO WATCH IN THIS DAY OF LACKLUSTER ACTORS, ACTRESSES, AND FILMS.

Just found this on You Tube. Such a kind, gracious man. I mostly remember him from McHale’s Navy but I never knew he himself served in the Navy. A true hero and gentleman. Rest In Peace Mr. Borgnine

Borgnine's stories are all good. Talking about how Rickles asked him to get a house in Malibu and Borgnine is like, "Nah, how much time am I gonna spend there" - that rings so true. That's how they thought in the old days, didn't matter how much money they had or if you were a big star, you didn't buy something for show like now, you buy it if you need it for some reason. If you don't need it, you don't get it. Very down to earth fellow, Ernest Borgnine.

John D My dad was a trucker and loved to drive his Bounder motor home. This video brought back some wonderful memories of a trip to Wyoming in 2001 for a family reunion, much appreciation from a fan in northern Cali!

Wow this was a great series that I was lucky enough to stumble upon.You can tell what a great person he was.He was in Ohara many many years ago and a friends mom recognized him....he said hello and
....shook hands and a few autographs later....I told him I had the vhs copy of Flight of the Pheonix.He said.....yea that was a great movie to do back in the day.He quoted a small line that he had about the transistor radio he used in the movie.....So cool.
Several years ago I realized that he and my grandfather served aboard the same vessel, the patrol yacht Sylph. Borgnine talks about it once or twice here and there. He was the "old man" at thirty or so and had a luxury stateroom; spent his entire WWII service aboard it off the east coast I believe.
What a down to earth amazing man. Who lived till 95 years old. Wow! And his wife Tova is still going strong.

......... I must have seen this a long time ago....... God knows there's a million things on the internet.......... but believe it or not after all of the stuff they got out there to see I was so happy when I ran across this again Angie I think everybody really liked Ernest Borgnine I was born back in 1915 or 1916 and the world was a different place growing up back then... my mother was born in 1917 and so I was raised around that kinda stuff .....and it's sad to see things speed up so much.... when people go faster.. it's easier to make mistakes .....and believe me people do...... one thing I remember about growing up with that kind of people as they took things slow..... they thought things through .....and they didn't make that many mistakes..... it seems you hurry up and it's too easy to make mistakes..... and it takes twice the time.....

We used to be good drivers. Now the quality of drivers has gone down hill dramatically.
The new truckers aren't like that anymore, too bad. My dad as a kid would always flash his lights when the old truckers were clear and they would flash back to say thanks. Now the new truckers don't even move over when you are coming onto the highway from an on ramp. Ernie would be disappointed, as am I.
Agreed, some of them shouldn't being driving trucks at all.

also played a Cab Driver in " A Catered Affair" with Bette Davis and Debbie Reynolds in about 1956
Ernie said Bette Davis was his favorite actress & considered as her as one of his best hollywood friends.
The interviewer should of asked better questions about his movies and the stars he worked with. Oh well I still enjoyed watching it. He reminds me of my dad. RIP
