    Nice work! I could hardly hear you, but love this engine. Great to see traditional American engines making great power with NO COMPUTERS.

    Folks, I will always try to reply to your comments and questions, but I dont get on the internet like I used to.
    My Covid vaccine has not been all that kind to me and getting back to feeling how I was proir to being vaccinated has taken much longer than I could have anticipated. Presently, I am persuing much simpler and less involved project adventures that I have not bothered to video.
    However, once my energy levels have returned I'd like to add another 1 or 2 Cadiilac flathead related videos if possible.
    I receive no money or did not ever expect to make any money from this, it has always been strictly to aid others who follow in my foot steps.
    I definitely know how hard it can be to find decent and reliable information and inspiration when comes to playing with these engines...
    Best wishes, Russ.

    Nice Work. Couldn't quite hear how you have the oil filter plumbed and how you did your pcv. These are a couple of things I would like to add to my 47 Caddyflatty.

      Oil bypass filter is easily plumbed in.
      A pressure outlet which pumps oil into the filter is taken from the main oil line at the lower front USA drivers side of the engine block. From memory this line pumps into the cannister and forces oil thru the filter. The filtered oil then gravity feeds out of the low point of the cannister and is allowed to drain back into the engine thru the timing chain cover at the front of the engine. As the oil enters the timing chain cover it drips onto the timing chain and lubricates the chain before running back down into the front end of the oil pan/sump. I hope this helps. If not ask more questions.

      @cadflatvideoseries1992  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      By the way you do not necessarily need to find a Cadillac bypass filter cannister, others can be easily installed fitted with a little luck and skill plus the right other choice of alternative cannister.
      Cadillac items are obviously the easiest and purpose made, but I consider them to be a little on the small side. The bypass system is not a full filtration unit but it does help clean the oil and in my view is better than nothing.

      PCV valve is in a tray hidden below the vallay plate, fingers crossed it will do what is required of it.

    What rear main seal did you use?

    • @cadflatvideoseries1992

      Stock style rope seal that came in one of my rebuild packages. Has a very slight drip but as long as it stays that way I am sure I can live with it.

That is the best I can offer for now.. Best wishes to you and all the folks who enjoy watching this kind of stuff.

      @@cadflatvideoseries1992 I’m sorry too. You have a beautiful flathead Caddy V8. I wanted to know more about it. The only other flathead Caddy V8 I’ve seen is Jonathan W’s, also on TH-cam. His isn’t as pretty as yours, but it is in a running car👍.

      @@CrazyPetez Petez, thankyou for you heart warming comments and I am always pleased to discover others who share a passion for these Cadillac engines.
      Information and bolt on parts has always been some what limited and hence my involvement in casting the timing cover and finned valley plates in aluminum. The lack of easily found resources for these engines is what has driven me in the first instance to post my videos as a means to show what is possible and serve as motivation to others.
      Should you or anybody else for that matter, have a question relating to these old engines please ask it and I will do my best to respond.
      Best wishes, Russ.

    Why sleeve it down ? Starter needs shimmed or shims removed

    • @cadflatvideoseries1992
      @cadflatvideoseries1992  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure I understand your comment, or it maybe my earlier comment you have not understood. Only sleeving I mentioned is with respect to engine bore size. My thoughts there were that the 322 LaSalle engine was a better revving engine from all accounts and any loss of of HP that may come with the bore size reduction will be got back with my exhaust, dizzy and carby setups. I did shim the starter slightly as you would expect to get clearances right and it works good. I'd be happy to know exactly what you were thinking in your comment so I could address it for you.

    Very nice fabrication of those specialty parts & castings. Great sound too! Think you could squeeze this into the engine bay of a L60 Patrol? :-)

    • @cadflatvideoseries1992
      @cadflatvideoseries1992  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen one squeezed into the engine bay of a mid 50's Ford sedan and it sure did not look like it was a comfy fit at all. My engine with tranny including fluids etc weighs in the region of 720kgs.So no fear of the front lifting...

    • @cadflatvideoseries1992
      @cadflatvideoseries1992  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt it but even if you could the front end weight would kill you...I saw one squeezed into the engine bay of a 1958 Ford Customline and it looked terribly out of place.

    • @cadflatvideoseries1992
      @cadflatvideoseries1992  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about the squeeze in but if you were successful there would be plenty of torque to exploit as a 4WD goes.

      Not sure about that but locally years ago, I saw one of those Cadillac engines squeezed in to a mid 1950's Ford Mainline ute.

      I guess it depend on where you are located. You are going to have to make connections with old Cadillac folks on forums or Military folks and search for sale sites such as eBay, Craigslist and the like. They are out there you just need to make the effort.

    Do you sell the valley covers? Or where do I get a pair?

    • @cadflatvideoseries1992
      @cadflatvideoseries1992  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use to sell a few sets, but problems getting them cast and shipping has been a big killer. I've seen some of my parts for sale on Ebay from time to time, so keep an eye out. Rebuilding one of the engines is not that difficult, but can be overwhelming for some newbies and they drop out and sell their stuff. This can be a good opprtunity to score a deal...

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any more.
