They aren't just getting stuck in his groin. They are trying for a painful or deadly blow to the testicles, but White Eyebrows can withdraw his testicles into his body at will as a defensive measure. So, that's why opponents look so shocked; it's a weird technique.

This was Great to see‼️ The clip of Bak Mei Pai being demoed was from the Bak Mei Kwoon in Brooklyn NY under the late Master Fong Man Kwong Sifu. The slim Chinese student in the video was a friend of mine named Willy Pang. The school had very good students and they were all well Trained and highly skilled. I don't know what happened to the school after Fong Sifu passed away. Fong Sifu had a direct lineage to late Master Cheung Lai Chung of Hong Kong. The system Itself is Very Fast and is a combination of External and Internal training.
Don't forget the full contact, very strong smell of jow, and bruises. 😊 glad the Baxter street school is still going strong. Do they still share the space with dance group?
I worked with a 7th degree black belt. He weighed about 85 lbs. he could snatch a quarter from your hand before you could close it. He liked to go to the disco in Austin and pick up women. One night, I was with him. Three rednecks took exception to his pursuit of a girl. They followed us into the parking lot. All I remember is my friend literally turning into a whirling dervish and three rednecks on the ground. It was mind boggling.
Donnie Yen played Hong Xiguan in a Hong Kong serial by ATV from the 90’s called the Kung Fu Master, I think the Chinese title is 洪熙官, anyway there was a Bai Mei in that series and I thought he played a pretty good one. The actions scenes was superb!
If you really want to look into it, start by looking up Grandmaster Chueng Lai Chuen, the Master whom codified and disseminated White Eyebrow Gong Fu, to several generations of students. There are around 13 recognized lineages, including the style I practice, Lam Hung Pak Mei, through 5th Generation Master Ng Yiu, student and assistant to Chueng Lai Chuen. There's a very flowery story about CLC challenging disciple Lin Sang in a teahouse (and ending up in the fish tank). He begged Lin Sang to introduce him to his Master, Juk Faat Waan, whom WAS a Buddhist Abbot renowned for his empty-handed fighting and esoteric skills. The character "Pai Mei", when looking at all available research, was probably invented as a "creation myth", a common device among gong fu stylists to give legitimacy to their martial system.
Evergreen stories have become history unfortunately. The man said to be his nephew, a ching general, was real. The Omei branch story is the most likely. His style was effective and was used against the people by the Ching government and became known as the traitors style. He became a traitor by extension.
TH-cam recommended this out of the blue which is pretty crazy because two people from my old kung fu school competed in that NTD tournament. Hadn't even watched any tournament footage yet either so these algorithms are getting crazy good 😂
Well done, good story about white eyebrow. In addition, the kungfu style is most probably created late 1800 or early 1900 and of Hakka origin and though there are many kungfu schools teaching Pak Mei these days, it is still only taught in detail to Hakka people (inner circle students). Also the first written appearance of Pak Mei was found in popular books about kungfu stories. Those books were as popular as the western books with detective stories.
GREAT VIDEO, I remember this character in all the kung-fu movies however never knew he was based on a historical figure and he was a traiter to Shaolin. You had me intrigued in this video - good content.
Fun Fact: The primary fist (sole fist according to some) formation in Pak Mei is the phoenix-eye fist, much like many other southern or Hakka styles of Kung Fu.
You've omitted a significant movie featuring Pai Mei. That would be the incredible "Kung Fu Slice of Death". Lo Lei played him here as well and should be considered the rightful heir to "Executioners of Shaolin". David Chiang plays the honorable monk who kills him at movies end. Fun fact and great video here.
Pai May is Chinese female that fought 1st war in Japan with her brothers Naraku & Chen Xu Xi ! Her younger brother was the ruler Naraku who didn’t want to marry Princess Japa so it started a war scorned love
Ok, so what I got from this video is that the long eyebrows kung fu master trope has a historical basis. It's wild! Didn't know eyebrows could grow so long
I'm not a Pai Mei expert. So, I was surprised that I didn't learn anything new here. I learned about Pai Mei's history when I was researching Ng Mui, the creator of Wing Chun Kung-fu. It was said that Pai was jealous of Ng Mui, and that's why he worked w/the Manchu to destroy the temples
Not likely true. Fang Do Tak went to omei, converted to taoism and created White Tiger system. Bai Mei system was taught in Omei and became very popular. Eventually the Ching army adding the system to there regime and it began to be called the traitor's system.
Ying Jow (eagle claw) is used a ton in the style, especially seizing with the left (non-dominate) hand. Fu Jow (Tiger Claw) is also extremely prolific in the style.
@@jeremymoore2388 Bak Mei does use eagle claw hand but it looks like it. It's a tiger claw but the last two fingers are curled in more. Everyone copies their teacher and soon that becomes the norm.
Chronicles of Tao. Bai Mei's mastery of internal alchemy and the three locks, allowed him to devise his own martial art based on Human movements. Also his entire body was impervious to attack, save for the top of his heard. He was blackmailed into destroying the shaolin temples, the monkey and crane elders escaped and swore vengeance. 10 years later, they defeated him.
They weren't blood brothers. Bai Mei died in the opening scene of Fist of the White Lotus. They were classmates. They had the same teacher. Lo Lieh was the White Lotus Chief not Bai Mei.
Are you aware of any historical documents supporting these oral legends of the five elders escaping from a burned down Shaolin temple? I think I recall seeing in an appendix of Alan Watt's book on Zen a reference to the Shaolin temple burning in a Chinese Scroll that was in a Japanese Zen temple library of old historical Buddhist documents from China, but other than that it seems to be more legend than history. There should be imperial records of it since the burning was supposedly an Imperial edict.
I don't remember where, but I once heard that supposedly the, "Stuck in the groin," joke came from Pai Mei's alleged ability to retract his testicles into his body at will when attacked in his groin. Whether or not he could actually do this I have no idea as to how anyone could confirm it, and I don't know if that's actually true or not. I think it was more of a movie thing or at least it sounds like one. Either way, that's a strange detail.
I believe I was told, that the Salute that the White Eyebrow uses before a Fight... is meant to represent the "Grinding of the Opponent" ... (like the Grinding of Spices in a Mortar and Pestle grinder... but instead, more meant to represent that they were going to Grind their Bones up). Also, when the White Eyebrow makes that Grinder handshape... I had heard that they actually make small circles with the Top hand, to actually represent a Grinding Action. Ive personally studied Wing Chun... and used to date a Chinese girl.. and I believe it was her mother that explained the "Normal" formal SALUTE. I believe she said that the fist represented "Fight", and the Open Palm represented "Peace"... and put together, they basically were representing "RESPECT". I believe its somewhat similar to "Yin and Yang". I also believe that I heard, that Pai Mai and his crew, were utterly Ruthless... and basically were Kung Fu Assassins for Hire. I have no idea how valid any of this information is. Nor do I have any depth of experience with the art of White Eyebrow, itself. I will say, that around that time period.. was likely the very tail end of the "golden era" of high level Kung Fu... as once the Industrial Era was hitting... the Chinese could no longer spend that much time, doing daily hardcore training routines. Instead, they needed to get a modern job... rather than an entire life spent of training at the Temple (or some other local school). Also, that was around the time where Firearms, were coming into play, too... which basically Negated a lot of the Uses for advanced hand to hand combat methods.
