    You should totally listen to the complete version of "Cassandra Gemini". Don't think you'll be able to make a video on it though, since that particular Mars Volta song is about 32 minutes long! Mars Volta are one of those bands that get better the more you familiarise yourself with the music (like most prog really). Passages of music that initially seem like a tangled mess of noise, eventually become this complex pattern of interwoven motifs and recurring ideas. They're the most ambitious band I've listened to. Hope you do more mate.

    They're my second favorite band right after Tool and I've been a fan of them since their debut but I was never a big fan of this album up until a few years ago and now I absolutely love it. And I agree with your description of their music. Get into more Mars Volta please.
    To me the best tracks of this album is Metatron and Ouroborous. And their debut De-loused in the Comatorium is still their best work straight through.
    As a tangent you should check out their old, now active again, band At the Drive-in.
    Can't recall that you did anything by them. Their album Relationship of Command is killer. Just pick any song.
    Also you should do more ISIS and Cult of Luna. And throw in some Neurosis as well, probably my third favourite band.

    Good choice of song! If you're interested in a little extra insight into their process for developing their songs, I'd suggest you look for a track called "Rapid Fire Tollbooth", off of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's solo album Se Dice Bisonte, No Búfalo. It's the original iteration of the song-- drastically slower tempo, different lyrics, and much more of a jazz fusion instrumentation, but essentially the same melody. It's fascinating to compare the two songs back to back and hear how their work evolved from that version to this one.

    • @Posit_Zero_Blue
      @Posit_Zero_Blue 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interestingly "Se Dice..." is a bit of a call and response album in relation to the film El Bufalo de la noche which Omar did the soundtrack. Also we see Omar's sense of humor, as the film is called the "buffalo of the night", Omar corrects the title with his own album title: "they're called bison, not buffalo" lol.

      Can confirm. Saw them in a club when they were first touring De-loused. Show was one of the most intense I've been to...the energy was palpable in the whole venue.

    If you fancy a chuckle check out an Australian band called "Twelve Foot Ninja". The humour is a bit dark (which is the Aussie way) but I think you will enjoy their music. Try the song "Sick" or "Ain't that a bitch, the uncut version" you won't be disappointed lol

    Jim, are you an old King Crimson head? If not, KC are in some ways the genetic antecedent of Mars Volta - would like you to listen to Larks Tongue In Aspic Parts 1, 2, and 4.

    Hi Jim! I know how much you like Tool so I thought I would make a suggestion. A Perfect Circle is one of Maynard James Keenan's (MJK) other bands. I think you will like them and I would love to see you react to them. Puscifer is his other band. It would be great to get a react video on them, also. K? Thanks! 👍

    I like the majority of the ground you cover. Would absolutely love to see more Mastodon. Roots Remain, Sultan's Curse, Ember City, The Motherload, Tread Lightly, The Czar, Oblivion, Ghost of Karelia, Toe to Toes, Asleep in the Deep. Could go on....just cover them all lol.... especially those...those first.
    Love your genuine love for the good stuff. Reminds me not everyone sucks.

    I like how quickly he pics up on the music. This album was my first introduction to TMZ and it just sounded like noise at first but Jim's right there with them off the bat. I'm obsessed now but originally yeah, I couldn't even follow it.

    Randomly came upon this channel a few weeks ago, plenty of great music here. Check out "Symphony X - The Odyssey" - it's a long song but an absolutely fantastic one. From Arjen A. Lucassen -> "Star One - Earth that Was", "Ayreon - Dawn of a Million souls", "Ayreon - The Fifth Extinction"

    I just noticed you've never reacted to The Smashing Pumpkins. There's a lot of goodness to be had there...hard to even say where to start. The album Siamese Dream is a masterpiece, so maybe just start with "Cherub Rock" and go from there?

    • @WitzyZed
      @WitzyZed 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Voidwraith Prime so, Muse in 2017 was at Lolla in Chicago, & the festival got rained/lightning’d out 3 songs into their set. Later in 2018 they played a smaller theatre (separate from their main tour which they returned to Chicago for 3-4 months later) & as a special gift to the Chicago fans they did a partial Cherub Rock jam/cover + Quiet & Zero riffs. Blew my mind.

    Thanks for this Jim! By far the best live shows I've ever seen were Mars Volta shows. When you get around to more TMV I gotta recommend a good live video for you. Back in 2008 they performed on an episode of 'The Henry Rollins Show' they ended up performing 2 songs but I would recommend their song 'Day of the Baphomets', strictly for time, as the second song they performed was nearly 20min. Here's the link to the video
