    APPROACH WITH CARE AND CAUTION. Don't break your computer! And don't blame me if you do. If in doubt, go to a professional.
    How to open up and replace or upgrade the hard disk on a HP 255 G7 Notebook computer.
    Mfr#: 6BN15EA#ABU
    The procedure takes at least 15 minutes, probably longer if you are new to opening up computers. This video shows you how to remove the lower case/underside cover to access the hard disk, motherboard, RAM, wireless card and bios battery..

      I'd look into getting some very thin double sided tape. Ideally 3M brand. Or possibly a very tiny amount of super glue.

      Ram.. suspect so! Operating system will need reinstalling or you will need to clone your existing drive to the new drive. Usually I would say use Macrium Reflect free for home use but the last time I looked it seemed like they don't do the free home one any more.

    • @freename
      @freename  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The drive that came out was a standard "Laptop thin" 2.5" laptop hard disk. Any 2.5inch SSD will work.

    • @nigelsearle8025
      @nigelsearle8025 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not all the HP255 G7 models will take a 2 1/2" SATA drive - e.g. mine doesn't have the wiring connectors for it and provides for an 80mm M.2 SATA (not NVMe, so much slower speeds) board instead - in the area that is to the back left of the upside-down laptop in this video. It looks to me like the M.2 connectors are not present on the machine used for this video - so you seem to get one provision for one disk format only - and not the other format. I've had a look at the parts list for the HP 255 or 250 (can't remember which) and the extra connector for a 2 1/2" drive seem to be around £70 or more... in fact you might need 2 different connectors at that price each - a ridiculous cost for a 10 gram board with (I believe) no IC's on it, just connectors! I think this is taking parts reduction and aftermarket price hikes ludicrously far. I was looking at a Lenovo V15 yesterday; it keeps both SATA and M.2 connectors to give you flexibility as a result. Its more expensive, but has a much better IPS screen too, and better keyboard I think.
      I've replaced my as-supplied 250GB M.2 drive for a 2TB WD one - it doesn't take long to fill up the 250GB if you are doing lots of DSLR photos! I'm now kicking myself for not getting a laptop with M.2 NVMe - they are just so much faster, and cheaper to boot. M.2 SATA is already dying functionality.

      The larger 9.5mm 2.5” drives will just about fit (I’ve tried it). But the case back is slightly obstructed and won’t fully re-seat around the optical drive and adjacent USB port. So it’s better to go for the 7mm thin or 5mm ultra slim drives. If considering the latter, choose Seagate as they have standard SATA connectors vs the proprietary 8784 one from WD.
