You are a lifesaver, my friend. I have an HP 17-by0061st which is nearly identical. I flipped it over hoping to find a convenient panel like on the Toshibas where you remove a panel and see the hard drive and another panel that you remove and you see the memory. No such luck with the HP. But with the help of your video I was able to replace the hard drive and add RAM.
Thank you, not hard but bit intimidating when you've never done anything like this. With your tool recommendations and walk thru I had no problem replacing ssd and upgrading memory. Thank You
Thanks for this video. I am currently researching how much it would cost to have someone do this (some charge by the hour) and this video was very informative. My own hp has gotten slower and doesn't perform that well when gaming.
Just upgraded my Ideapad Touch U430 last night. With a new Ssd, and voice recognition turned off, boot time went from almost 10 minutes to about 1 minute!
Thanks for the bottom panel removal service procedure. I ended up cutting the long rubber feet where the screws are. These rubber feet are probably unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
Usually they can be upgraded. Some laptops might have just one antenna cable. I say cable because they are thin coaxial cables. They look like wires but they are not. An antenna can be added but it might not be something that you want to do yourself. They are inside the screen bezels often and you could damage the display if your are not careful.
Hello Dale, I purchased a couple of HP SSD’s to install in my Model: dv7 - 2277cl laptop. Acronis shows a successful clone but when I swap the drives out it says Preparing Automatic Repair" and goes nowhere. I also picked up 16GB of Crucial memory for it and it won’t boot with it installed. Is this thing just too old to upgrade? Love your videos👍 Was hoping this might be an economical way to remedy the S.M.A.R.T error I’ve be getting.
Good video; very descriptive. Also there's other free cloning apps you could use (i.e. Aomei Backupper, Macrium Reflect, EaseUS). However, free cloning apps don't always make it easy to clone MBR to GPT format. You mentioned Acronis, which is also my go-to cloning app. Do you use a Linux OS for your Cloning Station?
I spent 40 years working in electronics, handling circuit boards worth 7-10 thousand dollars. We always worked on a static protection workstation with a grounded work surface. We also never removed a CCA from a static safe bag and/or handled the board without a static protection wrist strap. I cringe when I see people working on sensitive electronics without taking some form of ESD protection.
for some reason my laptop doesn't have a connector for the harddrive to connect to the rest of the laptop? It's nearly same make and model. Not sure If I'm missing something obvious or if mine specificaly is junk.
Thank you for the video. I have a year old hp 17t by400 that is very slow and hp did not want to cover it under warranty 5 months after purchase. I have a lower model (17t by300) as well that is much faster than this one with the same amount of memory etc. So I want to upgrade 1TB 5400 rpm SATA HDD to a SSD. What is compatible for my laptop? It is a intel core i7 (4.7 GH)
I'm stumped just in ordering the part I need. Geek Squad said I should order a 1 BT Digital Hard drive to replace the mechanical one currently in my HP Pavilion 17-CN0023DX Model 668S3UA and I can't figure out which one to buy. Can you help on this issue?
Hi ! I have Dell Vastro laptop 3578 which comes with this Specifications : CPU : Intel Core i3 7020U RAM : 8GB RAM ( Upgraded from the Exclusive store 4GB TO 8GB 4*2 ) SSD : 256GB. ( Upgraded from the Exclusive store ) HDD : 1TB Toshiba. But the question is the working good but when the system boots up after 15 to 20 mins the system totally laggy I mean if I do documentation then is too lag. I format the windows the 5 times but the issue is same to no changes. I also complain in the Dell but from the company no issue solved so I found your channel as a randomly I searching for the issue your video comes in the suggestions I open I watched this video that's I asked ! You know how to fix this issue ?
I had a HP laptop with a broken screen and yes, there is a video here--not one of Dale's--showing how to replace the screen. It is very complicated, much more difficult than replacing the hard drive or memory, and way out of my comfort zone. I had a professional do it for me.
I would have installed an NvME SSD in the M.2 socket on the motherboard at the right. Then you could have cloned to the new NvME SSD in situ. After cloning and a successful boot, the old drive could have been reformatted and used for additional data storage. No need to buy an SATA SSD and scrap the HDD.
I discovered such a provision on my hp 15daxxx laptop and I'm doing the same. Installing 250gb Nvme ssd which will house the operating system while the existing 500gb hdd becomes storage.
NO Acronis free will NOT make a bootable clone !!! NO 'free" cloning software will !!! I've tried them all multiple times with supplied cloning software from WD, Crucial, and Kingston !!!
you need another computer to install Windows os installation to usb (buy usb contain windows 10/11 installer), or CD/DVD drive for target computer to reinstall it
This whole process seems overly convoluted, opening my "Framework 13" laptop takes me less than a minute! On a Framework 13, the top-cover is held in place with 5 easy accessible (captive) screws on the bottom. After loosing the screws, a spring pushes up one corner of the top-cover. The top-cover is further held in place by magnets, instead of those stupid plastic clips... Framework truly build a device, from the standpoint of repair-ability!

Thanx for the video Dale. Those 17" laptops are getting harder to find these days. Pity that HP puts screws under the rubber feet.

Thanks and I loved doing this type of replacement and repair when I was younger. Now, I just go and have it repaired or buy a new one.
Hi Dale. Thank you so much advising me today on M.2 SSD drives. I really appreciate your help.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Nicely done. Efficient, to the point, good tips. Thanks!
Just upgraded my Ideapad Touch U430 last night. With a new Ssd, and voice recognition turned off, boot time went from almost 10 minutes to about 1 minute!
Thanks you sir. You made me know that this is possible. I plan to upgrade my HDD to SSD soon. Thanks once again.
Thank you for this. Exactly what I needed. Very much appreciated.
Turns an old unusable laptop into a device you can actually use for browsing and light load apps. It’s incredible
So what you show me on this video opening screws of laptop?
Thank you for sharing your experience. Helped a bunch 🙂
This is great. Have you ever installed an M.2 into an adaptor as an SSD for a laptop?
Thanks for the bottom panel removal service procedure. I ended up cutting the long rubber feet where the screws are. These rubber feet are probably unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
Thank you very much, Mr Cadillac, sir!
Everything went perfectly! Thank you!!
thank you. very helpful.
Thanks for the helpful walkthrough!
Great video as always bud!! I did the same thing for my HP after watching one of your older videos. Is it possible to upgrade the wifi card? Thanks

Great video Dale!
Thank you!!
THANK YOU !! I need to do this to my laptop but had NO idea..Chinese to me .
Now I know should I close programs before?
Sorry for bothering but for this laptop. I want to replace HDD with a new SSD. Can I use M2 SSD or I need a 2.5" Sata SSD
Can we see your cloning station setup please?
Very very good video!
It helps me a lot.
Thanks you!
Its the same steps for a 17-by0002ca
Thanks Dale
Thanks for watching!
This NB can use M.2, it's good.

Hey thanks. Actually we use windows 7. Never failed us yet. 90 percent of the clones are done outside windows environment. Very fast with Acronis.

They should have went with the M.2 option. Way faster than a SSD. I put one in my PS5. Sooooo much faster now!
