My mother, of Scottish blood, used to sing this to me , when I was a child. Though born in Australia, I am drawn to anything connected to Scotland, so this piece , (played by a "Scott",) is particularly endearing! Thank you for such a pleasurable experience, with such sensitivity and delicacy. I am sure the good folks of Dumfries appreciate your tribute.
I remember working on components of this organ when it was at Harrisons & Harrisons... seems a lifetime ago. A lovely piece beautifully played, and nicely chosen given Burns's association with Dumfries. Congrats on managing to give me goosebumps once again!
What an exciting song. Gives your heart a squeeze. I've been reading about the life of Robert Burns and he was in love with a woman from Jamaica, where he intended to live with her, but she died. I think he composed this song in his honor. He thinks he was Scotland's most famous poet. Here in Brazil there is a very famous song called "A Valsa da Despedida" that was recorded by several artists. Very sung at the end of the year, in the passage to the New Year.
