    Great little modification to the swim bait game. I think the only thing that may improve it is to replace the screw lock with a owner center pin screw lock. They just work way better. I’m sure they won’t rip out nearly as much. I’m definitely going to be giving this a try.

    You have successfully made what we call here in TN a magnum whirly bee. Aspirin heads, ball heads . We always ran swivel and strait to blade off the hook bend. Just big enough to go over barb. Don’t lose as many blades. But gotta have stubby bait body. Running a piece of leader wire to swivel works well. It’s a brown town killer on Dale Hollow/ Center Hill. Cast lift and drop kinda like old school guys used to fish a grub. Keeping up with the times 👍

    Hi Mikey: A small Indiana bade works well for this rig when you need to burn it without causing roll. You can even use a little bit bigger blade to add more flash for dirty water.

    Mike, use the remaining meaty part of that tail (not the tail itself) you cut off and thread it onto the hook with just a small amount, I mean barely have the point of that hook exposed, I started doing that with my other single hook lures and I have yet to miss any more fish than usual or have the hook get buried into submerged wood or stumps. It still swims true as well. Or you can hook it sideways so as that part of the tail acts as a partial weed guard, Texasbassranger out.

    Iv don't something very similar works very well in a pinch especially if your doubled up in a boat with your front angler garnering all the attention and you need to have a similar presentation but stand out as a more appetizing treat to the bass. Another idea I have done in the past to stand out from the crowd would be to do the same mod but do it to a lipless crank bait. Just replace the rear treble hook with a blade.

    Hey Mike,I'm going to be getting into throwing some soft 6"swim baits this upcoming season. Never have really thrown anything that big. The rod that your using in this video, will it be good enough for this application or should I move to something more beefier to handle a 2-3 ounce bait. Thanks Larry

    • @8.21productions9
      @8.21productions9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you’re going to want a dedicated swimbait rod for throwing baits that size. while some of them are light enough to throw on a heavy flipping stick, but others you’re gonna need either a MH or H swimbait set up. for soft baits with either a jig hook or a stout beast hook, I throw the dobyns fury 8’ heavy swimbait rod. I love it. and it’s only $130. it’s got enough parabolic bend to keep them pinned but enough backbone to really drive that hook home. and it’s rated 2-5oz.
      but once you start getting into the big swimbait game, you need to upgrade to a dedicated set up at some point. a swimbait rod and a swimbait reel. I use either a 6.3.1 reel or a 5.5.1 for the creep and then i’ve got a 8.1.1 for when the water warms up and i’m fishing higher up in the water column and i’m fishing my baits faster.
      hope this helps dude. you can get a dedicated swimbait set up for under $300.

    No, it does NOT look dumb and gimmicky. It looks brilliant! I am a dedicated fly fisherman. But fly fishing is STUCK in the past, with only minor movements forward in bringing fly fishing into the 2000s. I love bass fishing's creativity, innovation, trying new things, restless spirit of invention. I am now thinking, HOW can I do this with my fly rods, and Tenkara Fly Rods? I get most of my ideas for fly fishing from bass fishing. I am very successful with that. I already fish Keitech Swimbaits with my fly rods (ties 2", 2.8, 3.3"). This should work for smallmouth, white bass in rivers, and for trout and perhaps steelhead too (both in rivers). Thank you.

    Hey Mike, this is great modification... I have tournament on Guntersville at end of February... do you think this a good technique especially for old co angler? Also, would a drop of super glue help hold it.

      if you got fish just supsended around i think it would be solid for anyone. i was using it on scattered fish above the bottom over a hard bottom flat.

    Hey Balzz that's bad ass. I'm going to give it a shot here in California. I think I'm going to smash them on that. Thanks for the idea amigo.

    Just curious how long these last do you lose them easy with thrashing fish fighting them in?
