    Great video and tips. These were all things that I took into consideration when getting my first kayak, and now I really enjoy kayak fishing!

    Excellent video with excellent tips to consider. I am a small individual, 72 yrs old ,without a truck, and am seriously considering an inflatable such as the Aquaglide Blackfoot 160 that can double as a a recreational tandem for my wife and myself. The portable and storability of this craft are huge positives. It is my understanding that this kayak is extremely stable ( I will not fish in wind over 15mph), has a hard bottom drop stitch floor on which one can stand, has scupper drains, numerous universal mounts, a fin box for attaching a small battery powered motor, and is constructed of Duratex pvc tough enough to handle the vast majority of encounters with hooks. You mentioned a few negatives (and positives) for inflatables, but I am not sure I see the negatives for a craft like the Blackfoot. Would appreciate your thoughts.

      The Blackfoot looks legit.. I mean, a high end inflatable for sure. I mean, it sounds like it fits your needs when it comes to transportation and storage. I have never seen one myself, but looks like you have it dialed in for how you need to fish.

    Thanks for narrowing it down for me. I think I'd rather use all that money for a down payment for a nice bass boat. Plus my family would be more happy with it

      NOOOOOOOOOOOO... this videos was to help you dial in your fishing kayak... not lose you to the DARK SIDE! Let's have a moment of silence folks for the one who got away.

      @@wendellfishing I have a pelican castaway and it's hard to fish when u have to paddle all the time 😂. I've looked at the prices of different kayaks and they are out of my budget for such a small boat. . Don't get me wrong I love fishing out of my kayak especially now because I drilled two 1x4's into the kayak and bolted my seat to it. It's unstable to fish in but it's fun 😂

    Dude I recently moved down here to Springfield Ohio from Akron. I notice you said you fish a lot in south east Ohio in this video. Where’s some good places to fish 🎣 land and/or kayaks. Help a fellow out. Also when I get my kayak I’d love to meet up someday and learn a couple tips from you. I’ve been watching your videos since I seen your kayak setup video and you are definitely slaying them.

      Right on Rock Solid... I fish a couple of times a year the Jesse Owens State Park area.. lot of good fishing down there. I live in Hartville so you used to live right next to me

      Cool. I worked in Hartville in my 20’s at some factory. Im way more south of you then I thought. Dry town 😂 I remember you had to get beer before you went there if you wanted beverages! My family all live up there still. I’m down here working at Honda trying to get a kayak going. I watch you and Greg Blanchard in your slayers and I like them. I watch flukemaster and chad Hoover in their bonafied too and I like them. Really just saving and trying to figure out which way to go with it.

      @@john081277 Add Jeff Little to your viewing list. He's been kayak fishing for a long long time and has had a bunch of different kayaks. He's the reason I got the Ride way back in the day. If either of you are ever going to be in the Hershey PA area drop me a line. There are some decent small lakes around here, Blue Marsh is about 45 minutes away, but the real gem is Swatara Creek.

    Plenty of youtube videos on putting cheap older model trolling motors on any kayak. A few weeks ago I picked up an antique Motorguide trolling motor for free on craigslist. I haven't had time to really get into it yet, but the plan is to put it on the stern of the Ride 135.

    Good tips there. As you said, a peddle 'Yak is by far better if you're a "Fish' Fool" (like me! Mine is over 200# with all the gear. Once moving, it takes very little effort to keep up the inertia.).

    • @wendellfishing
      @wendellfishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! What percentage of your weight is gear vs Yak? That's a heavy beast.. but then again.. you could have a Hobie and those things are heavy

    Good info!
    I just purchased a 12' Seastream. It was on sale for $479 (before taxes) with free shipping to my house.
    Feelfree, the maker of the yak, charges over $400 for a skeg. The yak comes with mounts in the transom for said skeg. But that transom can easily be modified for a transom mount trolling motor. So, I am buying a transom mount trolling motor and tiller handle extension for half of what a skeg would cost.
    Sadly, in Florida, anything over 5hp requires registration. Law enforcement ignores these rules and fines anyone that doesn't have their yak registered when using a motorized device other than pedal power. Since I don't want to go to court every week fighting tickets, I'm going to have to register my yak.
    The upside is that I can easily pop off the trolling motor when fishing creeks and then pop it on when fishing the bays. The downside is needing it registered and having less storage space since I'll need a deep cycle battery. Still, it should give me greater range and stability.

    #1 RULE for sit on top... if you have to use scupper plugs to keep the water out...
    YOU'RE TOO BIG FOR THAT MODEL KAYAK!
    Find someone who has a kayak like you are thinking about... Pick their brain and if possible get/pay them to let you try it out!
    I bought a 12ft (*pedal kayak) and at 215 pounds always had ¼ to ½ inch of water on the floor while in motion.
    I've bought used, repaired, upgraded and sold over 50 kayaks so I have a lot of knowledge on different models and brands.
    * Hoodoo tempest 120
    * BKC PK-12
    * Midwest Watercraft RP12
    *Affordable Adventures 12
    Note: All of these have a 460 max capacity
    Do not buy any of these or smaller if you weigh more than 200 Lbs.
    They are all the exact same China made kayak!
    The mfg. "Max weight" cut it in half and you might still be too heavy for that kayak!

    I am absolutely impressed with my Pelican Catch 110. HD2 pedal system is far more reliable than the HD1 you'll see in most reviews. $1400 out the door at Academy.
