Just seeing the concept art VS it, it looks bigger than it was supposed to be. The scale is the biggest problem -- you're right -- they can keep adding decorations but it won't fix that. :(
I'm usually not pessimistic, but my issue with Leota's gift shop is the shape of it and how it encroaches on the views of both Mansion and Tiana's. I feel like no matter how good it's decorated, it will be an unwelcome sight.
@@ScanFan_Ed The photos posted today of the shop interior are fine. I don't have qualms. But it absolutely does not look like it justifies the intrusion of this structure. I'd rather a couple of smaller fortune-teller tents/carts in that spot.
As former Imagineers have stated...that building is a complete and total failure on all levels...It disrupts the size, scale and sightlines of the whole area and takes away from the Mansion proper...Nothing they can do with it will ever justify its intrusion. Another massive failure from the current crop of so called Imagineers...
The Madame Leota gift shop still needs some dormer windows, a cupola, and some ivy on the roof -- it's just to too huge to be that unadorned. And the building needs a stone foundation to look grounded to the earth and historic. These are easy, cheap additions that would add immeasurably to the historic, picturesque quality and sense of theming.
This is the earliest I've ever been! Hoping the Mansion Gift Shop gets even more as much as possible as seen in the concept art! Thanks for the update! Freshbaked!
The Madame Leota shop is Creole Cottage architecture that can be found throughout New Orleans and also in less populated areas around the delta. According to the original press release from when the concept art was shared, the shop is inspired by the old location of Marie Laveau’s House of Voodoo on bourbon street - which had almost the exact same shape. Because it’s brand new the biggest difference between it and the architecture it’s modeled after is that the siding is perfect and the paint is fresh. And it works really well as a transitional structure between the stately mansion and the bayou setting because it is common to both urban and rural areas of Louisiana. It’s fine if you don’t like the aesthetic, but this building reflects the culture and history of the city beyond the rich folks who lived in the Garden District mansions, and they got it exactly right.
Good to see the set dressers are finally getting around to Madame Leota's. I'm really surprised Disney would take down construction walls around a building that isn't show ready.
First, let's hope the outside is still not done because that huge roof needs something on it (dormer windows, cupola, ivy...). And the hanging props are all hanging from cheap zinc-coated Home Depot hardware...someone rush a can of spray paint -- at least -- over to Disney (since period-appropriate hardware is clearly out of the question 😒). And all the white plastic exterior outlets are so ugly and distracting! DO we have to look at these all year long so they can...what?...put up Christmas lights? Anyway, there's lot's to do to bring this up to (former) Disney quality. But, yes, it was a bad move to take down the construction walls before it was done. Just like it was a bad move for WDW to release that terrible POV of Tiana' Bayou Adventure. Self-inflicted wounds.
I saw that yesterday as one of the videos the algorithm had put on the side of the screen while I watched a different video. When it was done, I clicked on it to watch, but it was gone. My guess is that maybe it was a video for Patrons only that accidentally got published without making it private first. But just a guess.
Surprised you didn't mention the new and improved seat cushions they installed on the Big Thunder Mountain trains. Mush more comfortable and less sliding around in your seat.
26:39 A lot of the new stuff - the hanging bells, bunches of dried herbs/flowers, etc seem more Mama Odie than Madame Leota. Seems to me like the theming is a bit confused…
What's worse is the props are hanging from brand new zinc-coated eye-bolts and carabiners anyone can get from Home Depot or Ace Hardware rather than using period appropriate (or just weathered/painted) hardware. It's sadly like a high school theater class is constructing this building and they only get to work on it during class on Tuesday's and Thursdays.
I was at DL yesterday, talked to a railroad worker during an (extended) wait at the NOS station, and he told me what I'd suspected: the track from Hungry bear to almost ToonTown station (almost tunnel to tunnel) is relatively new - only 7 years old, from when they rerouted the train to make room for Galaxy's Edge (incl the famous first-time left turn). So that section doesn't need to be done. Only Main Street station through Tiana's Tunnel still needs replacing. Will happen early '25.

Saw you today at Mansion and then the store opened just after 11! The inside looks great! A little like what Walt said “we will maintain the outside and the ghosts will take care of the inside”.
Sure wish the high-tension SCE power lines were buried back when DCA was being planned. I read that similar lines were undergrounded in London before that city's Olympic games in 2012. Tom Sawyer Island at DL to me looks better from its main side (the Fantasmic side) than the island at WDW does. But if they get rid of the MK's RoA, that will be the least of the shortcomings they need to be dealing with. In turn, the store next to DL's Haunted Mansion is a new shortcoming.
That haunted mansion gift shop seems interesting and saw some videos on how it doesn’t seem to fit typical Disney and takes away from the other stuff around it.
Being 6’2” I’ll sure try to reach over that wall but no guarantees. Also realized just now that our railroad will probably close down for safety once that crane starts working.
I think the word you were trying to remember was aquaduct. In this case I think they are trying to build something that looks like a gold prospector's sluice box.
When I rode it on 12/12 and 12/13 it was dripping on guest, I got blessed by Thunder Mountain water dripping on my head😂 The dynamite scene as you climb up is amazing!
I probably said it before, but our Big Thunder in Paris is going down for extended refurb starting 6th of January.😢 They're closing off the whole river to do the works...as you know some of the ride is under water... minimum 6 months, but haven't given us a direct timeframe yet! Frontierland will be so quiet!!
The scale of the new gift shop looks rather big, perhaps if they had added some landscaping or some other elements in front to cut the scale down it would help reduce the visual size, at this time it looks out of place, too large.
The crane at Disney World next to the Big Thunder is not one that gets moved around, unless it's going to a new job site. They would not have erected the base unless they were going to put it to work. It probably can reach across to the other side of Big Thunder and that's why it was placed where it's at.
Despite my skepticism regarding the planning and foresight of Disney management, I am confident that ESPN Zone and Star Wars Trading Post will eventually be demolished. That is why they haven't bothered to build a more permanent mid-century modern security checkpoint and entrance on that side. The reason they haven't demolished them yet is because that land will be very valuable for the Disneyland Forward project. I imagine that space won't see any significant overhaul until Disney begins construction on whatever replaces that parking lot between the Toy Story/Mickey&Friends parking structures and Downtown Disney.
When Big Thunder opened, those water troughs dripped all the time. At least in the summer. Also, the Grizzly River geysers were turned off during cold weather. I guess they don't have a choice now.
True, Pirates should not be on Lightning Lane, but neither should Ariel, and we all know which way that went. I don't believe for a second Disney will honor their word to the "temporary" nature of LL on Pirates. They spent money installing scanners, they gained the control they wanted, and they won't go back.
Madame Leota's gift shop has fallen far below expectations. 😢 Disney needs to realize that they can't get away with putting a lazy shed next to an iconic attraction.
There’s a weird thing going on in the app related to Fantasmic. I have Fantasmic dining reservations on January 18th but in the My Day portion of the app, it’s showing Fantasmic closed that day. I called the customer service line and the rep said that the calendar is still being updated.
I really like the new interior photos of the shop Disneyland revealed today! And I’m glad Disney went back in to add more decorations and aging to the building. But I wish Disney would’ve finished all the details in time for opening. Drives me crazy that Disney does this possibly as a cost-cutting measure.
Thinking about the main gate and testing, it seems to me that the facial recognition and other changes are going to require significant changes to their software - certainly on the front end (at the gate) but also in the back end database. I wonder if it's possible to actually run both the old and new softwares side by side at the same time. Will they be able to operate the new gates with full functionality wile also using the old turnstiles?
Well, they had a really shitty ceo these last 2 years so he didn’t let any kind of basic management get done. So now we have a slightly less shitty ceo replacing him for now until they find a better one, so they’re making sure the park is in good condition before the new ceo comes in
The story behind the Indy ride and why we're on it should always remain. I understand why they took it away, but we were long past shut-down restrictions. This idea of bringing it back for the holidays and removing it again, only to possibly bring it back, is giving McDonald's McRib vibes. It's not a good look if you ask me. Seasonal things make sense because there's a reason they are seasonal, i.e., The Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. This does not make sense.
Yea, my mom and I watched Fantasmic in late October and we were both disappointed by the show :( Many of the effects weren't working. My mom at the end was like "thats it?"

Nope, we're on the gift shop now. Then it was back to the Island. Love what you do for us all, David. Just a minor note. do the gates are have one gate for the handi-cap people to get thru useing walkers or wheel chairs. as they are scaning their tickets ..... those gates don't look big enough for walkers and wheelchairs to get thru.
Having lived through the whole Mid-century-modern era, Parkside Market just looks like old, outdated buildings that have been torn down. I understand this architecture is new to many, and while some of it is appealing, some just doesn't hold up well. I don't feel regression is progression in this instance.
I agree. I understand the nostalgia around "Googie" mid-century architecture, but the people who are nostalgic about it (like me) are getting older. They may need to "sell" this aesthetic a bit more with some overt thematic environmental props. For example, Hey Brickey just made a great video about the Viewliner train that ran in Tomorrowland, which was built using a 1954 Oldsmobile 88 engine/dashboard. Disney could park one of those near the Parkside Market to substantiate the era of the architecture and as a nod to Disneyland history.
Yes, a park the age of Disneyland needs to be maintained. I just wish they would have been able to do a lot of the work during the 2020 closure. But that was not possible. They knew that the 70th anniversary was coming. Why didn't they do the attraction closures after the park reopened? Money and profites?
The Madam Leota Tuff Shed. No matter how much stuff they tack on that thing, it will still look out of place, out of scale, etc. Lipstick on Piglet.

Fantasimic was not running on Monday 9th and 16th.
My dad is in the Indiana Jones safety video.
The shop must have just opened the very next day because it's open now
He knows. I saw him there yesterday 😅
Are you going to be at Disneyland or Dca on Saturday
Yes, a park the age of Disneyland needs to be maintained. I just wish they would have been able to do a lot of the work during the 2020 closure. But that was not possible. They knew that the 70th anniversary was coming. Why didn't they do the attraction closures after the park reopened? Money and profites?
Hey Fresh Baked!!
that building is out of place and an eyesore. from what i'm hearing a lot of pther people feel the same
Pirates needs to come off Lightening Lane. Such a needless thing leaving it on. It runs so efficiently without LL.
