Politicians made it nearly impossible for me to get my very mild pain reliever (which my pharmacist says was only reclassified because of political hysteria) that I only take on my 3 work days. Yet, they have allowed the flood of fentanyl for which my son is now in rehab. I feel like the government is trying to kill us off any way they can.

Addiction is not a disease, but is instead a symptom ... people in US are behind other countries big time in this topic .. there are only two main root causes for addiction, outside of genetics : increase pleasure, and pain relief ( physical and psych pain). Yet, barely anyone will tell you this in the US ... Psychiatrists and psychologists write long tests that amount no nothing, in practical benefits for our society.

I live in Portland, I work in the recovery community, and I know of dozens of people in the last handfuls of months who have died from fentanyl overdoses. It cannot be overstated how big of a problem it is.

Coping mechanisms may need to start being taught in K-12. I know it took years for me to understand why I abused alcohol. Knowing is power for change. Worked for me. I don't need it anymore to feel better. No more free rent in my head for the a-holes who enabled me to feel so bad for so long. Almost 50 years. Wasted.
For me it's 13 years and I chose something less harmful than substances.. yet my life has been a black hole for a decade. I didn't realize it back when I could have salvaged things, and now every day is just trying not to think.
I've noticed that when it's drugs or alcohol, people blame the addict for his choices and implied weakness. For my thing, people brush it off as if nothing's wrong, or don't even see it, even though I have tried hard to seek help and talk to family and anyone who will listen.
Society is supposedly woke but no one actually cares more nowadays. People are so fake.
@@jengsci8268 Try not to dwell on the time lost. Focus on the time you have and be grateful that you came out alive and with a will to live a different life. You’re one of the lucky ones.
As far as the cause, it’s different for everyone, but a major factor is trauma in some form. Could be from repeated toxic relationship entanglements, abuse, abandonment, mental issues, etc. Substances provide the easiest temporary escape from those issues, and that trap can be extremely enticing for people who have lost hope.

I applaud you for being able to separate from substances. Celebrate that by reminding yourself of your achievements, and continue to seek out healthy endeavors that bring you joy.
I strongly suggest you seek out anything that can be a productive use of your time, and invest as much of yourself as possible. As a previous sufferer of depression, I can tell you that it is slow and debilitating, and will wrench joy from everything in your life and leave you feeling empty and hopeless, even if you’re sober.
You owe it to yourself to seek out joy in healthy outlets and enjoy solitude. If you can distance yourself from any kind o validation seeking from outside sources your life will be unimaginably more enjoyable, believe me.

We don’t need this in politics. “Polite” is not some hollow thank you every two seconds. Polite is getting straight to the point and answering the question in an honest and concise manner. These are grown adults - they don’t need feelings in these proceedings. Heck, I’d rather have them be *impolite* if it meant they were honest and didn’t waste everyone’s time and our tax dollars!
Also to your point: we, as humans, can tell when someone is stalling with extra words before spewing some dishonest bs. While being polite doesn’t inherently *make* someone impolite, the overuse of impolitely in these types of discussions is a red flag and point to the likelihood that lies or twisted truths are incoming. Fentanyl withdrawal is nasty but it doesn't cause seizures nor is it life threatening. That guy may have been addicted to multiple substances, but the withdrawal circumstances you describe are in fact from good old, perfectly legal alcohol. It's the only drug (and yes, it is a drug) whose withdrawal causes seizures and can be fatal as a matter of its regular withdrawal process (meaning you can technically have a seizure or die during withdrawal from any substance but this is not normal or routine and would indicate some other health issue at play).
It says a lot more about the care being shown for people in jail by law enforcement than anything else. If you know someone is going through withdrawal or is addicted, and you just toss them into a cell, as they do, you already decided you don't care about their lives, just full cells and quotas.

Indeed, it was struck down by the SCOTUS. The penalty for intentionally violating the US Constitution? There isn't one. Not directly. The penalty is meant to be some form of recall or impeachment when an official is so derelict in their duties.
But, there isn't a criminal penalty. If you commit burglary in a given municipality, I can look up various sentencing guidelines and tell you what your likely criminal penalty would be. It's governed by statute. That simply doesn't exist in these situations.

So, as a common definition, probably every politician who has ever served has committed treason. As a legal term, however, the definition is restricted. I hear these things coming up every once in a while and it’s always when democrats have the reins but funny enough it’s always felt the same from where I see it. Grew up in a small town by the border and I’ve always felt safe. Of course no matter whose in charge there are people coming in and it has always fluctuated. It’s interesting to me though that people have so much issues with the southern border but not the Canadian one that experiences the same problems. The difference is that there has been an increase of people trying to illegally come in through the northern border by 500% and yet no one talks about creating any type of barriers in the 860 miles of border we share with Canada. It’s pretty interesting.

There have been a bunch of people arrested in my area recently with meth and fentanyl. I was talking to a DEA buddy of mine about it and he said the stuff is coming from China and India first and then it's coming in one of four ways: our ports, in commercial trucks via Mexico and Canada borders, illegal border crossings, and in the US mail. The big amounts are coming via trucks and ports, and smaller amounts on foot via border crossing but he said that the US mail shipments are getting to be a huge issue. My point is that we need to cut off the source of this crap from China and India!
