- This video was done to show what has happened to Ista Breeze i500 Turkish wind turbine after 3 months of use and also Hiacynth 300 - Chinese wind turbine after 3 weeks... We are still looking for one that would survive in windy environments - so if there is a manufacturer / reseller out there confident enough to trial it - feel free to contact me...

I bought one of the i500s a couple of years ago. I've yet to put it through its paces and have only had it running for a couple of hours. After seeing this video, i'm going retrofit the pin and bearing arrangement. The fact it only has one bearing at the top is pretty bad. There should be a counter one at the base too. Just a quick note if you are recommending any turbines on this post - with link to external website - can you attach the image if the magnets installed on the main shaft. There are a lot of the same crap with different name and slight change to external housing - which is going to fail as the ones I had. We're taking them all down next month - so I'll open them up and post new clip how it looks inside.

I just took my hyacinth down for bearing change after 5 years spinning. The most front bearing was keeping a bit noise, others seemed to be ok. I have 12vdc model. It looks that these are all 3-phase devices and they have just put the 12v regulator inside the case to make it 12v. The regulator was loose inside, but wasnt luckily caused any damage. Slip ring was ok, but I ordered new one just in case. The generator has been on the coast line all the time, charging batteries and only with normal 30A pwm solar charge controller.
The damage is caused by the brake being on for way too long. The brake is just a dead short,that makes a ton of heat. I would suggest a bigger battery bank and more load. This is why small turbines get bad reviews,from bad operators. I have several that operate in high winds and haven't had any issues at all with bearings or melting.
ok, I have a 400w airx for 15 years. wind where I have it as high as 60mph. so far no problems at all. still power out put is still the same. I have a new one that I will install this spring 2019. its in stalled in northern Ontario Canada but I live in the u.s. during the winter. it runs all year long . that's why I bought another. made in the u.s.
Are the blades on the 5 blade turbine backwards? Seems to me that the flange should aim towards the wind not away from it

Hi guys, Sorry for not getting back to you on your comments - This is my private account and I never check this. To answer most of your questions. The ista breeze turbine - the seller offered me to send another one but I told him to not to bother, the design of the magnets is wrong. They should be either screwed in to the main shaft or have a steel band strapped around. I've tried electric tape - but the magnets at the high speed just cut through the tape. The other Chinese turbine hiyacynth or something simmilar. We've got 6 more and after the first stormy weather they all have seized. After that day they only moved slowly in a very strong wind, so is not just a faulty unit - they are all the same. We'll be taking them off soon and replacing them with the solar panel. The seller is no longer active on ebay and doesn't respond to our e-mails stating the problem, so I guess the warranty is until you leave the feedback - after it you're on your own. I've used the controller recommended and sold by the supplier, so I wasn't trying to change that since it was recommended by somebody who sells them. I've lost the confidence in the wind turbines - it looks to me the low cost/ low power rating turbine doesn't exist - these are just a gimmicks you can use somewhere in the middle of the field to top up your battery away from the coast. This is not a reliable solution, since it doesn't give rated power. It has to spin very fast to get close to it - however longer exposure to that wind will burn the turbine. Also 2 of those turbines burned the controller - the break stopped working completely destroying the turbine and the battery. As soon as we take them all off - I'll post the new clip taking them all apart. One comment was this is wrong turbine for the environment - I think you're right, but I've spent way too much time and money to get to this point that I've lost my interests in testing the reliable solution. Did you have a Charge Diversion Controller in your setup? There's lots of Google results detailing that Wind Turbine setups without such a device will lead to either the batteries or turbine burning out

Funny, I have the Hyacinth one, been mounted to my garage for maybe 4 years now, works perfectly, the "tail swing" feature works good, though I had the same issue as you with the bearings, (its mounted on side of my garage) I noticed one day the sound from it changed and I knew the bearings was done for, so 2 new SKF bearings one for the spindle, and one for the swivel and that was it...
BUT as I was replacing those bearings I found that the wires coming from the coil had worn on the inside of the housing and one of them was completly bare, touching the inside of the housing, shorting them out, had to mend that, isolate them with tape, then wrapping the cluster with soft gardenhose (what I had laying around).
Other than that I think its a decent tubine for the money :)
What chargecontroller are you using?
yep i had the hyacinth 300 in 6 months the bearing wore out it low wind enviroment surrounded by houses and trees, appart from the bearing issue they acceptable, you get what you pay for , theyre not top of the range after all.
diy axial flux are more fun if you build it right they last a very long time
for fun did you fix the first 2 and modify them?

Unfortunately wind generators, especially the ones on eBay are mostly scams. I have built several ranging from 10 footer to the the 20 footer listed in Hugh's book, which are amazing machines. I even sold a decent blade on eBay myself for several years cast from solid aluminum. The old ametek motors were fantastic. Burned mine up finally in a gnarley storm. Would have just needed new brushes and the brush mount which also burned up. Friggin pack rat made off with a few key parts... little bastard! So never got it going again.
Alternators do work without mods but need direct excitement from batts so tricky engineering to make that happen. Plus they need really fast prop. Something easy to make but hard to convince people of until they see it. Car alternators seem like the perfect answer. Only you put permanent magnets in them and they cog badly and stock they need to spin really fast. Fewer the blades the better when it comes to speed, speed is power!
I use a i500 ista breeze for 3 years and I am very satisfied.
The rotor blades diameter is too small. At this diameter, You will NEVER see 500W on this turbine.
Also the ball bearing system use only one ball bearing instead two is poor quality; the axial force of wind is transferred to the magnets, and not to the bearings. Bad turbine !

Your hyacinth 300w turbine has a different tail to mine.. where did you get it from? I've searched all over ebay and they all have the small tails.

2:20 please define "spins really fast". Im a hydro guy so probably wont experience this problem, but need to know how many rpm is 'really fast' for wind people :)

Thank you for the info. Unfortunately I’ve ordered a i-500W 12V/ iSTA-BREEZE so I’ll have to see how it goes £150. Y the sounds of it maybe it’ll last me 2-3 seasons with my boat.

Arctic Bonding epoxy should fix those magnets I know this post is old i seen the date but could not help but throw that out there. Acrtic bond is made to take heat those that dont know what it is its a bonding thermal compound normally used in computers to bond heat sinks to chipsets and that sort of thing ive actually found multiple uses for it and it holds very strong
The unfortunate reality of these turbines other than the magnets coming off is the cheap bearings that they use on the shafts. Even by correcting the magnet issue, you still have to find a solution for the inferior bearings. Imagine spending that kind of coin on a product and having to spend more money to modify it to be able to even use it?

look up Marlec engineering... their range of Rutland turbines are the real deal.. the 913 or 914 models would be a comparable size to the ones tested here and I'm positive they would survive such conditions.

Got one i500 from Fast Trading. Cant get it to work even before mounting it on the roof. They say it works in a wind tunnel. Company tells me no problem. You can see the story in my channel.
@Christine Murray - I live in Ireland where I just bought a house and the local/national/only electricity company wants. . . wait for it . . . .. almost 4000 Euros to hook up the electricity to their grid. I said F-you, for that money, I can buy solar. So I did. But not being very sunny here in Ireland, I will have to supplement it with hydroelectric (one thing we got plenty of is water! rains alot ;). Thus why Im here checking out gennies, and most seem to suck!

There is a major problem with the way the magnets are held in position on these. I have a design for to end this problem they are for boats and normally located where they can be taken down quickly. Until such Time as the magnets are installed better don't buy them .There is nothing of any substance holding them in position all it would take is for the maker to have holding compartments for each magnet welded to the Magnet rotor so they can be held better with a compound . But the fact is they know of the flaw and they are for boats to be taken down in less than normal fair sailing weather
The more I document about these products the more I learn no one is reliable ! All of them seem to be scam.
What is your Views on the Tesup turbines? The shell looks the same as those Ista breeze rubbish. They claim to be made in Europe.

On the web Tesup seems to be a bigger scam than insta breez. Both made in Turkey but very poorly skilled workers. And should I precise Turkey is not in Europe (for good reasons) ?

the braking system should not be used because it heats the stator
maybe the charge current of the batteries with constant current should be reduced to prevent the stator heating
Your best bet with the magnets is to take them all off clean it up , superglue them on then resin the whole rotor, peace.
This will probably not work, since there also was the overheating problem and super glue will get unstuck if heated too much.
aah what are you going to do with it , it looks pretty poor quality
There are magnets with 4mm hole to fix it on rotor with screw....
If you find yourself brake'n this frequently that can cause serious heating problems..
I think you made the wrong joice for your Windspeeds. Put up a Windmessuring-device and Monitore your everige Windspeeds and buy a Windgenerator that can handle these. The Istabreeze is only made for a maximum of 45 meter per second. I think, on the open Beatch, you got very often more then 60 to 70 meter per second.
And a Windgenerator that can handle those Speeds cost mor than 1000 dollar . But the Energyoutput is worth the Monney ;)
It looks like your units are burning up from the high winds using the brakes and overheating....
From my research they just released a new model that tilts back in overspeed conditions, similar to a unit my grandfather used in the 1970s. - a.co/d/gTKNS1u

No, sorry... I gave up on them after the second batch had failed... We've changed to solar panels and never had any problems since...
what about using a car alternator?
nope. don't bother = long story short.
Bearing in front takes most of the load, rear bearing can't take a load other than radial. As David Noel said, don't bother unless you want to make a belt drive unit. Most of them need 3000 RPM to make decent power. Some have to run at twice the engine speed so they are designed to run at up to 10K RPM.
Bloody inefficient. Dont bother with it.

You have tho wrap the magnets-ring of the german one with a thin kevlar-string, maybe in multile layers, so they stay in place!!!!!!!! do it homogenously, so that the magnet-ring looks like a kevlar-string-spool at the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!! search for videos, where people wrap their (e-motor) inrunner rotors with kevlar-string for use in modelism (planes, cars etc) !!!!! because, beleve me, at 60.000 rpm, they have the same problems as you!!!!!!!

Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground. But 100% more wind generates 800% more electricity! Wind close to ground is extremely gusty, which usually shortens the service life. Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid, you should erect the largest possible wind turbine on a high mast for the winter.
*With solar modules, on the other hand, you can reliably generate green electricity for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*

these generators a Wrong charge controller was used and the generator via rushes.
I did it quickly and efficiently with instructions from Avasva website.
Ista Breeze runs without problems, only the brand is denigrated.
Ista Breeze... A Turkish compagny... But they are calling themselves '' A german compagny ''....
...and Tesup is a re-branded Ista or vise versa.

@@pop1348 Not sure who makes what for who. Tesup says their units are made in Europe but geographically Turkey is not in Europe. Tesup gives their address as in the UK but if you google earth it, it turns out to be a public storage building. The phone number for Tesup.ca is out of San Diego california. WTF?

Most cheap Chinese wind generators are rubbish. You must really know what you buy. A good wind-generator you don't buy under $1,500
If you want a good wind generator think about a Black 300 or black 600
I got bad experience with Ista Breeze too.
