      TheCuriousOne AC transmission won't help unless a transformer is used to boost voltage, but not worth it for such a pathetic output and likely is china broken or just not meeting spec. It's likely the latter, they are crooks. Five blades means rpm are lower, this means the low speed genset is expensive and large. Doesn't look big enough. Look for 3 blade if you got 10m/s 22mph wind. btw, I'm an bsee.

    • @NechaevDmitry
      @NechaevDmitry 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can only find it by measuring resistance of the line or the voltage on the generator and consumer, right?
      As I saw there was only one measurement, which I remembered as on the consumer, so what voltage is on the generator is unknown. It might be 40 volts. It is the same as Chinese 12v charger can give you all 20, assuming you'll get around 12 under average loading.

    With that style of blade,the return is minimal due to rotational torque needed to transmit power. A Savonius turbine is about 40% effective. Transporting power like than,your'e better off controlling,storing,then inverting to AC power,as it "Travels" better. DC drops a crapload over a short span,where 110vac loses very little unless the wire is tiny. I put my panels in the yard,instead of on the roof,and had to seriously think whether to invert across the yard and travel the 110vac,versus 40 feet of #2 copper. We went copper.

    I have been experimenting with wind turbines for the last year ,and i will say i thought my turbine was no more than a wind chime until i changed the really cheap charge controller for a high quality hybrid and right now my computer which i am on and the rest of the house is running on only 8 panels and the wind generator,and so my guess is you need a quality charge controller and then you will have no problems. Its easy to get off grid 12x 2 volt batteries 8 panels and a wind generator im loving it no bill!!!

      I am using an unbranded hybrid charge controller which will handle up to 600 watts of input from the wind generator side but importantly it is an MPPT controller . My first controller was a solid state controller just like the one in this clip on the floor at 105 ,and now my opinion of these solid state controllers is that they make good fishing sinkers, I will make a clip soon of my vertical axis turbine and controller cheers

    The only electronic u should buy from AliExpress is mobile Phone cases. By the way how can you expect 400watts from blades that size.? Besides, the cost of installing wind turbine generator of capacity 1kw or lower, isn't justifiable enough to even exist except for experiments and hobby. Wind turbines doesn't scale up linearly, but exponentially with increase in diameter.

  • @macrumpton
    @macrumpton 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    400 watts probably in a 40mph wind. Keep in mind the power available in the wind goes up the square of the wind speed. 3mph is 9x and 5mph is 25x and 10mph is 100x

    • @UCreations
      @UCreations 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Force goes up by the the square of the speed. Power goes up by the third power. With such a small wind turbine you'll get 100W max at 10 m/s if it is very efficient. Higher wind speeds can lower the efficiency.

    Power delivered by wind turbine is a function of speed squared so a slightly faster wind might yield more power. Turbulences from the tree could cause losses. All that being said, windfarms yield an average 30% of installed capacity (maintenance, no or low wind).

      Glenn Littleford True, I see tons of these wind turbines near the coast of my home town. They are used to power the LED street light. From the light intensity of the street light, I figure is at 50 W ball park. So, There is no way to squeeze out 400W from a generator with this size and I don't care how you tweak it. I will say, the 400W claim shall be 40W. The problem of some seller on Ali express or alibaba is, they themself have no ideal what their product capable off...

  • @frenchcreekvalley
    @frenchcreekvalley 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    What were you using for a load? If you were charging a 24 volt battery that wasn't completely dead, that low amperage might be possible. I'd load it with a resistive load until the voltage dropped to 22 or 23 to really see what it can do. Besides, there will be a lot of turbulence up in that tree that might reduce the effectiveness of your 10 meter/sec wind velocity. I think that the power increases as the cube of the wind speed, so going from a 10m/sec wind speed to 12m/sec would make a huge difference in power.

  • @stylusrowm
    @stylusrowm 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Nelson Bomber ,
    I like that you are testing these import products.
    But I would not recommend putting a turbine in front of any object, be it a tree or a building or to close to the ground would never product good results because of air turbulence. This is why large wind turbines make more power out at sea than on land. Not as much turbulence in the airflow. 12m/s and above is the point to aim for in wind, anything below the generator will just not turn quick enough.
    That blade design is for whats call clean air, take it as fair away from any object as possible will create better results like high up in a pole on a ridge line for example.
    I am not say this will solve your issue, maybe have a read up on air flow over turbine blades and vertical vs horizontal.
    Coming from a engineering researcher who lives in the windiest county in Europe, wind turbines are only good if you have the right place to put them. Other wise they are totally useless waste of money.
    In my case a 1kw turbine in mind of a field with no tree line produces more than it advertised and it was a cheap Chinese product. The only fault I found if the generator quality is bad so it would not last long.
    Wish you all the best to get it working.

    • @MartyT
      @MartyT  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Air turbulence was not a problem, I ended up spinning the generator with an electric motor to see if I could get more out of it, it peaked at around 60 watts, still only 10% of the advertised output

    *1) All small wind turbines actually achieve only 5-15% of the advertised power.*
    *2) All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity. And only at costs above 1$/kWh!*
    There is hardly any wind near the ground. And it is also very gusty, which extremely reduces the service life of the systems.
    *With solar systems, you can reliably generate electricity for about 3-10 cents/kWh over a period of 25 years!*

    Yeah a basic mental calculation is that IF a pedestal fan can "screw" through a cylinder of air, giving X volume (swept area) by Y velocity, using volts x amperes = watts, then then to reverse it with say 20 or 30% losses, then 4 skinny little blades, being pushed around by a wind, through a wind tunnel, kind of like, even in ball park figures - sort of guesstimating, a BIG 60cm / 2' diameter pedestal fan will use say 50W..... to blow a strong breeze, then if I was to put that wind turbine in that air stream, I reckon it would be lucky to get 15W of that back out as power.... however if you bolted it to the front of a jet aircraft doing 900Kmh at 12,000 meters, SURE no doubt that you would get 400W out of it then....

    A 24V battery requires that the regulator outputs ~28 VDC @ 14,3A to generate ~400 Watts. The total resistance in the wires and load should be the equivalent of 1.96 ohms to dissipate 400 Watts at 28 Volts. If you use 2 x 20 meter gauge 17 (1.04mm^2) Copper wires between the regulator and the load, you introduce an extra 0,64 ohm resistance to the system that will steal 130Watts of the total 400Watts, leaving only 270 Watts for the actual load (32.5% loss of power in the wires). The cables would also drop the voltage by ~9Volts, leaving only ~19 Volts to reach the destination (i.e. a flat 24V battery). Such a setup would be less than optimal.
    The moral is use short cable runs using copper wire with a big cross section.

    This speed is the maximum speed of your turbine, if bigger, the controler regulate turbine's speed, (brake function) if not, it's electrical annihilation of your setup, it's overcharge.
    I believe than if wind's speed double, his power is 4 times more, it's not proportional.
    these informations need to be confirmed.

    The wind turbine/regulator combo seems to be the "Morning Group" model S2-400W at aliexpress. It is stated in the specs (graph) that the system should generate 400W at wind speeds above ~10.8 m/s. The regulator's nominal voltage is selectable 12 or 24 VDC. It seems that you have not put enough load on the DC output from the regulator. If you did, the voltage should have dropped way below 25 VDC, which is actually a higher voltage than the max nominal 24V output.
    Next time try connecting a battery that is not close to fully charged :D
    You could try to connect a 2 ohm power resistor and then measure the voltage drop across the load while measuring the amperage going through the wires at the same time.

    Measuring the distance between tips of the blads is not enough to ensure balance. You have to Balance the blades After they're setup correctly with correct distances. that means hanging the assembled blade with a string in the middle of the blade axis and check to see if the blade leans on either side ..then if that is the case you have to add some plumb and stick to the opposite side ..there is a video online that shows how it's done ...I've forgot the link.

    Wire diameter to be used for the advertised??? 20A with a length of 20 meters of cable must be at least 5.73mm2, so we prefer to choose 6mm2. The calculated wire resistance at 20 meters of cable of 6mm2 is then only 0.115Ω. I prefer solar panels to.
