Why have I never heard of this otherworldly collection?! I can't get over the quality of work and the absolute design perfection. My lord, Hetfield has such an eye for beautiful iron. So much more interesting than the dozens of collections of Lambos, Ferraris and all the other hyper cars populating TH-cam's auto content. These are so spectacular the poor man can't breathe! Hetfield, WHAT A COLLECTION!
They sort of did in a separate video - not a detail description of all of the cars, but sort of an intro to this video. Here: th-cam.com/video/I9J120SZT14/w-d-xo.html
These cars are total works of art. People have NO idea what amount of work, time money and effort it takes to build machines like these. Love Metallica also!
James, you are an incredible artist. Thank you putting this collection out for all of us to see. I live in Florida but get to LA once or twice a year, I hope I can visit before they go on tour.
I feel so lucky to have visited this amazing collection in February 2020. Each vehicle is a work of art. My favourite was Aquarius which is just such a beautiful car. Thank you to the Hetfield family for donating the cars and to the Petersen Museum for displaying them to such advantage.
These are all stunning in person. The sparkle element on the dead kennedy is my favorite, its gorgeous! Im pretty sure that at the opening reception, James said his daughter named the skylark, not Ricks daughter. He mentioned she said it 'scraped' the ground & James then liked the idea of skyscraper.
God DAMN! This is probably one of the finest collections I've ever seen. No surprise that one of the raddest guys in metal also has a completely immaculate collection. I can't even imagine what the ones he still has look like.
The host is fine. Don’t know what all the fuss is about. I’m interested in the vehicles. What baffles me is how he could donate all these beauties. It’s not a single vehicle donation but a whole collection. They are all so gorgeous.
Probably the same reason why Nick Mason sold his Ferrari's collection. When asked why, he answered - you need some place to store them, has to be some equipped with heating/ventilation/Air condition, the you need some people to maintain the cars, and at the end of the day, you not gonna drive them a lot.
he said (non verbatim): "i've already had my time with them. i've already had my life with them. it's time to showcase them so that someone else would see them and maybe inspire them and maybe some kid would go "oh that is cool, but i can do better!" and that is what i want... because we were kids one time and you never know where this would take you"
It is a stunning collection. Impeccable details all over. These did start out as rusty pieces! I checked because they are all so beautiful. Thank you James!
❤ Love EVERYTHING about this collection and the man that has been thoughtful enough to share it with others and the Museum for making it available around the world. Thank You. It brings great joy.
Its an beautiful collection. At the end of the day it's a collection of art. No one is every going to drive these, they are museum pieces. They display the taste and the limitless money of the owner and the artistic abilities of the builders and creators. Jay Leno has an auto "collection" and he drives every one of them, on the LA streets.
The custom rods all have that guitar aesthetic with fender skirts and chrome details. James did a nice interview at his shop in NorCal talking about this donation last year, on YT maybe also a Petersen video?
Black Pearl is stunning. These cars are unbelievable. Wow.. How generous and cool of James to donate these gems & so sweet of him to create a way to provide incentives for kids.
Great collection...im glad they were made available to see.... the host is awesome you can tell hes a car guy but is trying to dumb it down a little to keep ot classy... i wish i could watch the extended remix where he goes bonkers pointing out the details and really goin into the background pf the cars.....thanks Petersens and the Madman Hetfield one of my favorite voices in Rock and a real shredder on the guitar.. METALICA!
I just want to leave my concepts thanks for seeing these incredible restorations and impeccable finishes. These are our wishes from the entire Ademir team at Asj Scraper
Very rich paintwork cars except for the Iron Fist which is my favourite, I like the bare all out character of this car just like a heavy metal band, the tail caught me by surprise, was expecting a fastback.
Absolutely gorgeous collection. While I’m not a fan of the stacks on the truck, Id love to own it. Saw one with chrome exhaust parallel to the top bed rail that looked really cool.
I've known James since 82' and never knew he had this collection, sure , he had an ominous amount of other "Vehicles", So this is unbelievable, this caliber of Custom Art-Deco is cerimonius.
When Rick Dore was on an episode of Jay Leno's garage, he said that the only car he wished to have back was James Hetfield's "Aquarius" 1938 Packard custom. Though the Petersen could perhaps let Rick Dore borrow the Aquarius if he asked; also the Black Pearl was said to be powered by a Ford 302 so I don't know why he said it was powered by a Chevy.
This is cool! Big Metallica fan........Love the cars and I appreciate the host given all of the James Hetfield info. Loved the ride to school story.....I'll be visiting this museum soon because of this vid!......Forgot to mention how beautiful and badass that display is with the pics of James on the wall and the matching guitars and amp!
Imagine building ANY of these cars. And then step back once they are finished and try to tell yourself; "I can out do myself on the next build". It's almost an impossible thought in and of itself. Every single car is just perfect in and of itself!
James, and of course Rick Dore have created pure artwork. Rick definitely has a handle on the art deco late 30s Delahaye style. I can't imagine what the build cost was on some of these with the De Ley hand formed bodies...
Absolutely beautiful. James and I would definitely become best friends. We both love metal. We're both musicians, and we both love cars. Outstanding collection!
Couple of thoughts...collections like this are donated frequently and most of the time the museum sells the cars to pay the bills. It's also the norm that a collection like this is donated and there is also a cash donation as well. Did you see all of the cars and bikes in the background? All donated or loaned out because the owners lack the space to store them. These specific cars will drive foot traffic into the Peterson and I assume James donated them with stipulations as to not if, but when, the Peterson can sell them. I assume that James simply has consumed and enjoyed the cars over many years and he's simply done with them. It could be as simple as he's simplifying his life. He doesn't need the money so donating them is easier and it also lets James share the cars. Ask any serious car collector about ownership and they will say that they are "the current owner" or the "caretaker." Value - the values are arrived at by an independent appraisal process. James gets an appraisal for each car and then the Peterson has their own appraisal done for each car. It's a handshake between the two parties. Both parties have tax consequences and the IRS needs both independent appraisal reports side by side. Values are determined in one of three ways. 1 - How much similar cars sold for publicly 2 - cost to build an exact replica if possible 3 - is the car used to generate income and how much is that. A good appraiser considers all three in this case because all three are viable. The guy giving the tour did a fair job for the average person. One could spend at least an hour on each car.
Imagine being so successful in your chosen field, whatever that may be, to be able to donate a very valuable collection like this one. Yes James is a famous rock star but he seems like a regular dude when you see him in an interview.
Great collection! They all have elements that appeal to me. I like the coca cola beauty of most of them. I like the classic of the flathead original hot rod. Maybe my favorite is the Lincoln, I'll try not to blow my top over it, like any old bow tie daddy, but James worked on it himself and that's something. The stepside was cool, too.
Wow now that,s what i call art i could look at them all day ,paintings for some folks but i just don,t get them but these i get they are amazing that is art all right imagine the value of these things .There is some serious craftsman in the USA i just hope it does not die with the way the world is changing ..
OMG, I think that poor man leading us around the collection is operating off only 1/2 a lung, where is his mobility scooter 🛵?? Get him some oxygen for god's sake!
It is insane, isnt it? I can't get over it. Most be worth millions and millions...I could never part with something so personal
It would've been awesome if they got James Hetfield to do a side commentary of all the cars.
One and a half thousands a lil far off from five thousand subscribers...

Yes im sure james would not called a f 100 a f 150
These cars are total works of art. People have NO idea what amount of work, time money and effort it takes to build machines like these. Love Metallica also!
Ever since I first heard Metallica in 1991, I've loved them. And now this from James! Love you man. Such an incredible brain!
Shell! Good to see you again! Shell gives the best tours. Hope to run into you again- Canadian Cannonball guy.
The lines, the design, the colors. Wow! What a stunningly good taste James and the builders have.
I concur! This is an unfathomably gorgeous collection of VERY GOOD TASTE! Those builders are ridiculously talented... Smh.
What a fantastic collection!!!Way to go Rick & James!!!
Now I know James not only as a great musician, but also as a creator of beautiful cars. Bravo James!
With the greatest respect, I hope the host makes a decision to look after his health. He's badly out of breath just talking.
James, you are an incredible artist. Thank you putting this collection out for all of us to see. I live in Florida but get to LA once or twice a year, I hope I can visit before they go on tour.
To each his own, i had no problem with the host. I could understand him just fine, and the cars are the stars.
Yeah who’s complaining about the host? He’s good - speaks very clearly
He said very little about the cars.
I feel so lucky to have visited this amazing collection in February 2020. Each vehicle is a work of art. My favourite was Aquarius which is just such a beautiful car. Thank you to the Hetfield family for donating the cars and to the Petersen Museum for displaying them to such advantage.
I wonder how much it cost to get in the museum
lesley williams It cost us $14 USD each at the senior’s rate.

1:13 .....am.....am I the only one who thought this guy only had one arm for a bit??
The host is fine. Don’t know what all the fuss is about. I’m interested in the vehicles. What baffles me is how he could donate all these beauties. It’s not a single vehicle donation but a whole collection. They are all so gorgeous.
James wanted them to be enjoyed by a larger audience. The Petersen is proud to have this collection!
Probably the same reason why Nick Mason sold his Ferrari's collection. When asked why, he answered - you need some place to store them, has to be some equipped with heating/ventilation/Air condition, the you need some people to maintain the cars, and at the end of the day, you not gonna drive them a lot.

Income tax deductions while they are still available. Hetfield made money on this nice donation. Thank you James and family.
James has plenty more vehicles, including some in the works!
I'm not even a car buff but I was totally mesmerized by these beautiful automobiles.
Just wow!
It is a stunning collection. Impeccable details all over. These did start out as rusty pieces! I checked because they are all so beautiful. Thank you James!
❤
Love EVERYTHING about this collection and the man that has been thoughtful enough to share it with others and the Museum for making it available around the world. Thank You. It brings great joy.
who else thought that he has only one arm?
i thought he´s having a heart attack!
I'm glad he got his arm back but I'm worried about his diabetes out of breath heart attack symptoms...
Go carnivore diet buddy!
and he sounds like he only has one lung also.
He only got one ball
One lung and zero cardio
9:33 This one is my favorite.. I love it! Looks f***ing awesome! 🤘😎🤘🔥🔥🔥
Lol The host sounds like the hypnotherapist that croaked mid trance in the movie office space. Other than that amazing collection!
I love James styles of his cars , the long back deck and would die to have one !!
.....Cameraman's On His A Game Today!👍👍👍😉
I got to see his beautiful cars at the 2012 music festival in Atlantic City. They were amazing to see, and the boys played on!! Great time!!!!
Thanks sir for sharing this beautiful collection.
That’s crazy! These cars need to be in a museum! So much good work went into them, they look great! The guys who did the work, are top!
awesome collection. he should have a smash-up derby vs Jay Leno
I liked the presentation! Thanks for showing the Collection @Team Petersen!
james has such great taste in cars, would have been sick to have him comment all his cars
Its an beautiful collection. At the end of the day it's a collection of art. No one is every going to drive these, they are museum pieces. That Red Lincoln Zephyr car looks amazing 17:25
What a collection. The sculpted headliners are amazing.
Very cool collection. Hetfield’s creativity knows no boundaries!
That guy was huffing and puffing
Awesome, thanks so much for posting! The 'Dead Kennedy' is definitely my favourite!
Black Pearl is stunning.
These cars are unbelievable. Wow.. How generous and cool of James to donate these gems & so sweet of him to create a way to provide incentives for kids.
After seeing those first 3 cars it's like James was a 20s-30s Chicago gangster in another life.
Wow, what an absolutely beautiful collection just gorgeous.
The small bit of rust on the Iron fist adds so much detail. So perfect
Imagination alone will not produce cars like that, money alone will not produce like that. But with both and passion, this is what you can create.
METALICA!
"Iron Fist" at 11:43 was also used in the Metallica movie "Through the Never". Can be seen in the parking garage scene.
Thank you Peterson’s, hedfield, and commentator.
Stuck at home in N.Y., it was a thrill to see this stunning collection.
Fabulous tour
Excellent...Beautiful paint work...😎🌍🚘🇬🇧
Except Iron Fist. That's actually a clear coat covering pure steel.
Ok I love James 100 times more now. He donated those cars too the whole world. Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous collection. While I’m not a fan of the stacks on the truck, Id love to own it. Saw one with chrome exhaust parallel to the top bed rail that looked really cool.
LOVE the candy apple colors for most of the vehicles.....GORGEOUS!

OMG!!!!! all the BEAUTIFUL vehicles!!!!! and the GORGEOUS paint jobs done on them!!!!!

Wish i could see these machines in person so this video is much appreciated!
Wow...this is Great!! Amazing Custom Art~!!!!!!!!!!!!
"It's like a convention of Playboy Bunnies, and saying I'll take the ugly one."
EXACTLY!
This is cool! Big Metallica fan........Love the cars and I appreciate the host given all of the James Hetfield info. Wauw Thanks James from Holland
Gorgeous cars. Man. Just works of art and inspiration. That Black Pearl is such a stunner.
You da'man James, thank you for your collection.
Awesome Rods
My heart skipped a beat at the site of the Crimson Ghost!
YAaaaaah... tough call between that and the voodoo priestess
I like that guitar next to the “iron fist” better than his snakebyte model.
Would love to see the step by step process of restoration of one these cars!
Imagine building ANY of these cars. And then step back once they are finished and try to tell yourself; "I can out do myself on the next build". It's almost an impossible thought in and of itself. Every single car is just perfect in and of itself!
Great collection, just had to watch in 2x playback speed to get through it.
All kinds of kool in James’ collection. Nice!!
That Buick Skylark - Skyscraper is beauty! Too bad I can´t afford it (if it is for sale at all)..
I'm not words. Spectaculars cars.
20:53 , please someone link me video where James is using this guitar hahha (because he is not)
You don't know that cause if you'd of listened he said it was painted to match Skyscraper, duh.
@@metalmellie4371 still, show me that guitar being used by James in any colour (:
He uses it all the time on stage when playing songs from Kill 'em All. /s

WOW what a collection the mount of hours spend building these cars and the detail ia amazing.
Absolutely amazing!!!
😊

Wow that Lincoln would be a dream to. Drive around town.

beautiful craftsmanship, love that truck!
thanks
It's interesting to see where James' tastes lie as far as vehicles. Not what I expected and far from my own. Interesting.
Get that guy an inhaler..immaculate collection
OMG, I think that poor man leading us around the collection is operating off only 1/2 a lung, where is his mobility scooter 🛵?? Get him some oxygen for god's sake!
I was thinking same thing lol
Uh it's probably called skyscraper because it's a Skylark that literally scrapes the road... Clever girl.
Do the motor's in these cars have the same detail...would like to see them.
Man they have to be some of the nicest cars I have ever seen. Things of beauty
😊✌️
Amazing cars👏👏👏
When and in which museums in Europe will these cars be available to see?
Those are all beautiful cars thanks James !!! But I wanna see your cool cars! Mustangs camaros chevelles gt 40’s corvettes
