Hi Risa - I actually stopped apply any shadow on my eyelids a while back because I always thought what is the point, when you can't see it. But you do see it, I see it when you move your eyes or slightly close them, so you have inspired me to go back to doing the full eye make up routine. I always did feel like incomplete whenever I would go out (lol) Thank you Risa, this was helpful to me 😊💕

Risa, GREAT CONTENT! I ROFLMAO when you got to #3 Tweezers and discussing the new places that eyebrow hairs start to grow over the age of 50! I'm 56 now and for the last 6 years those stray brow hairs are popping up all the way down to the middle of the crease area of my hooded eyelids! Talk about a difficult area to tweeze! Our skin is already fragile there, but it also very mobile from laxity, so it's hard to grab a hold of those hairs without accidentally pinching the skin at the same time!! My stray brow hairs also grow all the way down on the outside of eye sockets, to the level of my lash line!!! Good grief! LMAO! XOXO ~~Christy~~

strange question when i comes to mascara. how many "swipes" is a coat of mascara on your lashes? As I have aged (52) my little lashes can't handle the large fluffy applicators, all it does is smear, clump and looks like I have spider legs LOL. one eye always looks better than the other. Plus my eye lids droop downward, if I put any kind of liner on my lower lash line my eyes look droopy. Therefore, I don't put anything on my lower lash line. i have hooded eyes as well, you can't see the eyeshadow on my lid, I do try to incorporate your tips and tricks to be able to see what's there. thanks.

what do you recommend for tight lining? tx

  • @AmericanDingo980
    @AmericanDingo980 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Using eyeshadow to line the eyes gives a much softer look, which I happen to prefer. You can still create drama and smoke the colors out, but it’s just a prettier look in my opinion. Liquids and pencils can end up looking so harsh which defeats the whole purpose of wearing makeup, which is to flatter those features.

Risa- I wanted to tell you about a new mascara I've been using. It's one I saw on Instagram & although I don't usually fall for that this time I tried it. Boy, am I glad I did! I have short, sparse lashes (I'm 69!) and I've always dreamed of long lashes. I got this mascara &, no kidding, I have long lashes!! It's a tubing mascara but different than any other I've tried. I thought Tower 28 & Calliray were good, butnothing like this! It's called WowCombo. I haven't heard anyone talk about it & I wasn't going to say anything but I've been using it for over a month & it's no fluke! I only use 1 or 2 thin coats. It comes off easy with warm water, but it doesn't flake or smudge. It lasts all day.
I'd really like you to give it a try & see what you think. I haven't mentioned it to anyone else yet--kind of saving it for myself, you know? But I really wanted to pass it on to you & see what you think!

I agree about using shadow in place of eyeliner, my problem is the eyeshadow doesn't last. I have to use liner then set with eyeshadow and repeat one more time. By 3pm in outer lower corner lashes it start to go south . I have tried using primer, set under eyes with powder, after I apply concealer....no matter what I do , it goes south. Any advice Risa?

    • @kathleenp3135

I had the same problem and tried multiple products. The ONLY product that stayed and never transferred is the Stila Stay all day liner in black. I tried green and it transferred. I’ve never once had a problem with the black. And I’ve used it with no primer, powder-nothing. Just the liner. Ulta usually has them included in their sales. It’s worth a try.

I have dry eyelids and normal/dry skin :( My eyelids look like scales! No matter how much I hydrate, cannot get rid of this, plus I have hyperpigmentation. Also, with the massive cosmetics and skin care out there, please do not buy from companies that test on animals and/or use animal ingredients in their products. Namely, Maybelliine that is owned by L'Oreal who does test on animals. 💚💚💚

I have learned choosing a mascara is all about the right brush. My small hooded eyes can’t handle big fluffy brushes. I found the combo of the dior white eyelash primer with loreal butterfly mascara makes my lashes huge and opens my eyes. I stopped buying eyeshadow palettes. No more eyeshadow for me. Lashes and lipstick are most flattering.❤️

I find lining my eyes with powder is certainly easy but it doesn’t last anywhere near as long as a pencil or gel liner. Reapplying is too time consuming so I try to keep the liner as thin as possible and try to tight line instead. Thanks for great videos!

I use powder for a liner but get the brush wet first. Kind of a best of both worlds. It’s a little softer than pencil or liquid (even though you are doing a faux liquid in a sense) and will last.

Hi Risa tightlining the upper waterline was a gamechanger for my hooded eyes. I still use eyeshadow, mascara, smudgy lower lashline pencil/shadow stick etc, but giving that depth of colour at the base of the lash in the waterline gives my blonde lashes a real boost. I get my brows threaded and I tint them for shape/definition, which means a lot less work everyday to make them look pretty good. I have rosacea affecting my eyes (causing dry eyes which means they water a lot), so I need a waterproof pencil and mascara (or a tubing mascara). Slim mascara wands are so much easier to use than fat or hourglass wands for my eyes. I don't wear bronzer, but i love a taupe in the crease or a very soft grey (I'm super pale/cool toned). False lashes are tricky for me, but for an event etc I will use a half lash, trios or a natural looking lash for extra oomph. Best wishes.

My tip for eyeliner: if shadow doesn't work as eyeliner because your eyes water like mine, dip your liner brush in your gel liner and then use that to apply liner. Stays all day and can be darkened later for an evening look if desired.

Never underestimate a cheap mascara, L O L I was recently in our local dollar store and I picked up some LA mascara ( yellow tube)….. And I had also bought a very high and mascara months ago and forgot all about it. Well, I found it, put it on …….not impressed! I paid over $30 for this mascara !!!! because I was in a rush, I grabbed the cheap $1.25 LA….. and WOW!!!! Amazing…..you just NEVER KNOW!!!

I really liked this video I'm up until I had my makeup done at Dillard's professionally one day I always had a hard time sometimes and I never knew that I actually had hooded eyes and it's really nice lady that is graded makeup at The dillards counter explain that to me and it made a world of difference I still don't wear makeup at all anymore but I do like videos that actually teach me and so I thought that when she explained to me that I had hooded eyes I just thought that was really interesting and so this simple video has helped me think things through

I just found you! And I'm newish to makeup, and you're saving me for more mistakes 😅 all the tutorials can teach me a lot, but what you say was what, my instinct has been telling me and you just explain it very simple. I'm happy that I found you! ❤
P.S I was completely surprised when you said you're 50!

I also have VERY OILY LIDS. I can’t wear mascara on my bottom lashes without it transferring and I only wear waterproof. What are your tricks to remedy this please!??

Yes! Finally some one who says and thinks the same as I do!! I have extremely hooded eyes. I always have and now that I’m fifty nine, they are insanely hooded!! I have enough eyelid for another set of eyes!! But when you said it is hard to watch a video of someone giving tricks for hooded eyes when they themselves don’t have hooded eyes I was like YES!!! Finally, someone gets it!! I’ve watch hundreds of videos with people who, in my opinion do not have hooded eyes. They, at best have eyes that look puffy but nothing like what I’d call hooded eyes. Not even close. So, needless to say, their tips and tricks NEVER work! Mainly bc, well they don’t really have a hooded eye problem. Thank you so much for “getting it”!!!

Thank you so much Risa! I love all of your tutorials. Especially for hooded eyes. I have hooded eyes and I am 61, still want to look good. I watched so many videos on make up for mature eyes on other TH-cam. Tried to apply on my face their techniques. But everytime I followed that direction, I didn't like how I look. And felt opposite. Felt like I need just softer, less and lighter eyeshadow. Now after watching your this video, I know what to do. Thank you so much! ❤

Thank you for these videos. I've recently been noticing that my eyeliner transfers. I've always had hooded eyes but man I'm in my late 40s and it's getting ridiculous. Especially my right eye.

You are so beautiful! I was told today that I was ugly. And it's not the first time. It cuts deep. I was just beginning to spend some more time on my apearance but now I think "why bother". Even with the best makeup I can't change myself.

Never mind struggling with false eyelashes, I can't even do eyeshadow. I'm 50 and still would like to learn. I'll be checking your playlist for hooded eyes.

What was the primer you recommended?

I'm 46 and yes I have blonde brows but even blonder hairs on my lids. I thought I was just weird but I can't even count how many blonde hairs I have growing down into my lids. I'm Nordic so we naturally have VERY hooded eyes . Aging has made them thin with many little wrinkles that can make eyeshadow crease up and down ! I have to make my lids taught to get non patchy creased eyeshadow.

I actually think the majority of people have hooded eyes. I think it’s more rare to not have them. You pretty much have to be a pre teen, or teen, to not have hooded eyes. Yeah there are some adults without hooded eyes, but I think more people do have them

I have hooded eyes. One of my essentials is primer. I will have to try that L'oreal mascara. How does it compare to other Telescopic formula? Love your tip on using bronzer. I have a face palette that I used as an eyeshadow for everyday for a while. Right now, I am focusing on not using so many eyeshadows. I used to do that a lot..I like more natural eyeshadow.

Hi! Could you do a video sharing what you do when you are spending the day by the pool.
I don’t want to look like a full face of makeup, but I definitely don’t want to be bare faced either. Thanks!
