      You don't go anywhere near the fuel system to do an oil change.
      Not on ANY car.
      Doesn't matter where it's made.
      Doesn't matter how old it is.
      That's a load of crap.
      This plaintiff is a moron or a scam artist..
      Here's how an oil change goes in a shop.
      It's the same when you do it in your own garage.
      You lift the car up.
      You work under the engine compartment.
      You remove the engine sump plug and drain the old oil out.
      You refit the drain plug using a new crush washer.
      You remove the old oil filter.
      You fit the new oil filter
      You open the hood to access the engine oil filler cap.
      You remove the oil filler cap and add the specified amount and grade of new oil.
      Check the oil level with the dipstick, if it has one, or check the level with a scan tool.
      You refit the oil filler cap.
      Lower the vehicle.
      Close the hood.
      That's it. You don't even go anywhere near the back of the car where the fuel tank or
      the fuel filler cap is. You certainly don't go near the fuel system purge valve.

    I used to take my cars to those Jiffy Lube type places for my oil changes but stopped many years ago because 1) they always said it would need a different type of oil and would cost more, and 2) the oil was still dirty after. Before you say I'm stupid, I didn't notice it until my sister told me it happened to her and when I checked my oil... Tada! It was filthy. Then I read an article about them being sued for scamming people that way. My mechanic has been doing it for many years now with clean oil and a new filter.

    I'm a professional mechanic with 38 years of experience. Not all cars have NVLDP's. But for the cars that have them they are commonly a problem. They are part of the "Evaporative Emission System" which simply put is the vent system that takes gas vapor from the gas tank and moves it to the engine to be burned instead of let loose in the atmosphere like all cars and trucks built before about May of 1970 used to. The pump in question supplies a little bit of vacuum (suction) inside the tank and that is monitored by the computer to see if it can hold it or if it bleeds off. If it bleeds off that means there is a leak and gas vapors could escape into the atmosphere. While not serious, as the system has to allow them to escape while fueling, it does set the check engine light and the EPA doesn't want this to happen. I replace probably 20 of these NVLDP's a year in my small volume shop. They just weren't built to last the life of the car.

    A 19.99 oil change coupon would not cover a "gas filter". That's not even the proper term for it anyway. The proper term for it would be a fuel filter. But once again a 19.99 oil change coupon would not cover a fuel filter. I guarantee the only things that a 1999 oil change coupon covered is drain and refillment of regular oil and one new OIL filter. I also have a problem with him saying that the assistant manager argued with him over the oil change coupon. That's highly unlikely. Most shops give some sort of a deal on oil changes for a reason. They give you a deal on the oil change and while they're doing the oil change they will inspect the car for other issues that they can make money on. That's just how that industry works. I've been a mechanic for 30 years. I've worked for many a shop that did oil changes at a loss just to get the car in and try to sell other work. No one's doing oil changes for profit except maybe jiffy lube or someplace like that where they don't do any other work.

    Synthetic oil is good to use, but usually if you’re going to use it it should be put in when the vehicle is new, or very low mileage. We used it in our vehicle from the very start, and had excellent results.

    Plaintiff is a scammer. He made up the hearsay story about the woman who had trouble with her gas cap. Also if he didn't like their bad customer service about them wanting to use synthetic oil and "making him" sign a waiver, and the upcharge for the filter, you know what he can do...leave. Take the car somewhere else. If they're not willing to honor their coupon price then leave.

    I find a loose gap cap happens more often than I would like. Usually young kids working at the local gas station who don't know that you have to tighten the cap until you hear the click.
    That said, why would an oil change business being taking off his gas cap?

    those morons in that quick change shop need to be fired for purposely damaging the guys car.
    the older lady came back with the same problem,
    the assist manager said it happens all the time. I BELIEVE IT !!!
    the defendant reimbursed the plaintiff $39 for a gas cap, and $19.99 for the oil change.
    WHY DON’T YOU DO A GOOD JOB THE FIRST TIME.
    the plaintiff had to run around wasting his time trying to remedy problems he never should of had of those three stooges knew what they were doing.
    the judge should take her car there and let those three stooges work on her car, and see if she goes back.
    SHE WOULD GO BACK AND YELL THE WHOLE TIME BECAUSE THEYS WHO SHE IS BUY DID NOT RULE IN TJE PLAINTIFFS BEHALF.

    I wouldn't bring my nice Volvo into a cheap oil change place...

  • @wvrjl
    @wvrjl ปีที่แล้ว +1

    WHY wouldn't the defendant ask Volvo to put what they told him (IF they told him that) on their letterhead, preferably on the bill / receipt, if they really did say that?? A blank piece of paper?? ANYONE (including him) could do that. And if he saw the check engine light on for his car, after seeing the prior interaction with the older lady, why wouldn't he IMMEDIATELY check the cap and close it? Also, why didn't the judge ask why he needed a new cap? If it was just ajar, why did he need a new cap? Was it missing completely??
    Personally, I think she should have researched the pump if it was soon after the oil change. She might think a 10 year old car is so AMAZINGLY old, thinking EVERYTHING goes wrong with a 10 year old car, bit that's not true.

    • @user-uy6uc5ey5q
      @user-uy6uc5ey5q ปีที่แล้ว

      Cause the Plaintiff didn't go anywhere near a Volvo certified mechanic. Its quick, but the clip has him admitting he got that info off the internet. He got a new pump sure , but he's got zero specific professional advice which links that problem of the pump to the actions of the oil change place.
      The guys going to cut price oil charge places for serving a quite specialist high spec vehicle which is going through a lot miles all over the country. You think he going to spend any money getting a proper Volvo inspection. No way in hell.

  • @RoughRaiders13
    @RoughRaiders13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guarantee this fool got gas and didn't put his gas cap on all the way and that's what caused his check engine light. At no point during an oil change does a mechanic ever touch the gas cap. Literally never.

  • @cpedersen474
    @cpedersen474 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    If that stupid car DOES have a pump that runs to pressurize the fuel tank and the defendants employees did loosen the gas cap it is possible it's their fault. Not easily probable, but possible.
