Maplestory is basically a digital fidget spinner. It's something I've heard many say, but one thing I do that helps is to only grind in Maplestory when I have something else playing on a second monitor. I've grinded during school lectures, live-streams, Netflix, etc. and instead of focusing on super sweaty rotations, just focused on the thing I'm watching on the other monitor. This is way easier now with sol janus too and it actually helped me study during the online University times.
The other thing I also do might be considered unhinged, but whenever I don't want to grind or boss or do dailies, I just do quests. Not for items or things that'd better my main, but just to learn more about the areas around me. We zoom through level 1 - 200 faster than we can experience things and lately, that extends to level 1 - 260. It definitely helps now that we have Artifact Missions to incentivize people to complete FriendStory, but sometimes it's nice to do Tangyoon Cooking Class too.

Mobile Gamer Burnout: (forgets daily login)
MapleStory Burnout: "I still do my daillies, weeklies, run 12 boss mules, get my culvert(s) in, and I only grind an hour everyday (more on the good Sunny Sundays)."

i've been playing this game quite actively for the last 4-5 years and can say that the tips you mentioned to avoid burnout are exactly what i do. i 100% would have quit a long time ago if i didn't have so much fun playing the game with friends. the game is super fun when you have a good community to progress/boss with/share memories with, and those are the times where i feel motivated to train. but there were also times where i spent 70b on sf events and got weaker, boring filler events, new game releases, then id only do 10 mins of dailies then log off for the day. it's fine to not play the game when you don't want to.
i think a lot of people forget how to have fun in their own way, for me it was practicing and getting better at moving on mobile classes like merc, ark, hoyoung, khali, etc. also not neglecting nx on mules so i could be proud of them :^)

ive burned out every single time ive ever played maple but right now with your videos and help with progression its been easier than ever. I just made my first 3 pieces of drop gear. I learned to enjoy monster park cause i hated it forever, and i really only care about kill my weekly bosses, maple tour, and ursus.

Not crazy. I've changed my character's outfit during a training session. It keeps it refreshing.
I'm older than you, so I will agree with the last point you made near the end of the video. It applies to your topic and also extends in life. Good take to bring this up to your community.
    Keep up the content.

  • @handkc12
    @handkc12 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

8:30 btw, I don't think ur crazy at all. All final game content at the end of the day is dressing ur character up. And when it comes to coming up with bg stories for ur character, I don't personally do it, but I can definitely see the appeal in it and wouldn't call you crazy for it. Remember Maplestory is an RPG. That stands for Role-Playing Game. You're playing the character, kind of like D&D but limited to Maplestory storyline. TBH, that's also the reason why I used to prefer nameless classes, but y'know, Nexon stopped making those.

Yeah, me at the moment. Have been playing everyday for the last month to get my main to 260, getting all my links and mules for legion, doing daily quests, event quests and so on and I am currently taking a break again. Always had the thought when I was doing other things throughout the day “Oh you still have to kill your 2000 daily mobs”, “Oh you still have to do Maple Tour”, “Oh what a shame it would be if you missed your daily Monster Park runs”

I think there is something that people don't really realise is that Its very easy to burnout if you get unlucky.
For example, on 5/10/15 it takes on average 13bil mesos to finish starforcing a piece of CRA. But that is just the average. Imagine being 52bil down on a single piece (more than 4x the average), booming 24 pieces etc. and still not done. Or going years without seeing a pitched. The worst part is if said player sees everyone else hitting everything it much earlier than them.
The game's biggest weakness that it is really really easy to forget that everyone has different experiences.

Adding more to this video, here is my example:: I finished my 2nd Hyper Burn! I did a little bit each day for 1 - 2 hrs, which is normal for not burning yourself out...
From 2008 - 2009 I had a massive burnout that led me to take a super long break from Mapling. Since then, I have learned from that and only play super casually.
It is important to set time limits and mini goals for yourself each time you log in and break it into hours. Trust me, it works. NEVER push yourself beyond a half hr past your limit or you could get stuck in 4 or 5 maybe 8 hours over your limit. It isn't hard to do it especially if you want to "Knock out your mini-goals in 1 day".
When I started my First Hyper Burn I thought I wouldn't make it.. I ended up making it to 260 with 2 weeks to spare. On tthe 2nd Hyper Burn I finished it with 1 week to spare... I did this because I set a certain percentage to gain per day (Blue Tickets helped, yes I know I was supposed to use them on 210 and under but this came first lul ).... YOU WILL GET THERE. Enjoy your Maple time, don't drown in the game. =3

The burnout is because you’re not getting the dopamine from progressing anymore. Play another game for a week, and come back when your maple dopamine tolerance drops.

i once was rushed to the hospital drenched in sweat with extreme anxiety and tremors. the cause? i had forgot to do my dailies. the doctor diagnosed me with severe acute FOMOitis that was life threatening to my maple account progression. i'll don't ever wanna experience that again, hence why i do ALL my dailies on all 42 legion characters.

Healthy Body makes a healthier gamer physically/mentally. Don't got much time? Do both! I have my PC on an adjustable desk raised to the perfect height and I walk on a portable treadmill underneath it to walk at a steady, low intensity pace, while I farm on a WAP or two with better posture. For me it helps make grinding and cardio less mundane with twice the dopamine rush seeing my MESO/EXP gains and my daily Step count go up daily. Of course, I have another monitor with my favorite streamer or podcast to pass the time as well.

Honestly, what I did recently is something stupid simple. I stopped listening to yters about Maple, and just played my favorite class. Now watching CR go up slowly is enough to get me to go crazy. Sure, if I did my mules, I'd have 10 bil a week easy, counter point, the class I like makes about 2 bil a week and that's just enough to get each thing on them to legendary, and I just need to do that over a longer period. Honestly, just play the game, stop when you don't want to. Screw saving money, screw being optimal, just play.

    what I personally do:
    1. Do the daily sacred symbol and 3k kill quest. I usually pop the 30 min wap while doing this because I cannot do 2 hours lol. If there's weekly bosses or things like high mountain I try to do it in one day to get it over with.
    2. After doing daily sacred symbol on main...I go to any character that is at least 200 or higher and do arcane quests/7x monster park until it reaches 250 then I go to another character that is below 250. Why 250? because you get SSS rank and one extra square. Getting to 250 is not so easy especially when you play casually like me..so I try to get important characters to 250..not including my main ( evan) which has an ok legion skill..currently I am trying a WH to level 250..then next character probably going to be a legion character that has crit dmg or boss dmg.
    3. if you have boss mules that can kill Hard Leon, Normal Magnus, Normal Pap, Hard Ark, and Ranmaru....you can make decent mesos...don't waste your boss crystals on non-chaos zak or hilla imo.
probably other stuff that I probably forgot. If I am bored...I just do the gather woods/herbs mission from threads of fate and I usually play another game or go for a 30 min walk

Being burnt out definitely feels different for everyone. At the moment, I might consider myself burnt-out because I'm only doing Arcane/SAC dailies + any event ones that I can. I haven't touched the Maple Expedition event. I usually play enough just to do the 2,000-mob dreamer event weekly and then that's it for me for the _entire_ week. I've stopped doing monster park & monster park extreme, maple tour, ursus, and daily bossing (i still do the weekly ones). I've never touched wap's before and don't plan to - i've never been the type to grind, anyway. Finding activities that you actually _do_ enjoy is a big part of not being burnt out. I'm glad that I'm still playing maple.
Wishing you the best with your full-time maplestory-career! I've been subscribed since I started playing maple again back in Nov '23 :)
I'm very interested to know the lore for each of your characters. That sounds so fun/interesting.
I actually like it better when there are no events and I can just chill. FOMO kills me.
It's great that you're taking care of your body at such a young age. Health is definitely important (health is wealth imo). After incorporating exercise into my daily routine, I feel better as well.

There is this talented guy called Matt (mattlikeswords) who I used to follow on newgrounds, specifically on his game called epic battle fantasy, I used to daydream a lot on how would be if I made a game like that with my main on maplestory and adding lore from my real life social experiences (rl gf, friends I met in the game, friends irl that made an impact on my life, etc)
I kinda still daydream about that from time to time

+1 for fashion story (dressing up your characters). It definitely gives me a much-needed break from the grind. For me, it’s not just cash shop (MSEA) equipment, but hunting/crafting equipment to anvil. I know it has absolutely no effect on progression, but it’s amusing for me. I offer to anvil for my guildies as well 😂 which promotes bonding. The character lore, however, is interesting. Would love to hear more about this haha
Cheers m8, great advice for everyone honestly

All My characters are dressed up in different themes. A few are special sets that came out when the character was created, like the Aran. Of course , some of the themes are obvious: FP in fire gear with a green face, big red hair, and arcane river flaming bird mount; IL all in ice, white skin, and blue hair. (i wish i had the huge ice dragon chair) To not burn out I only play when I have no time crunch or other things I have to do. I do get frustrated when I cannot clear content, and that gives me burnout. I cannot get past the first boss in the new mountain theme dungeon, for example.

My advice for avoid burning out with training, get sol janus at least level 1, you can level it up more later but that level one will help decrease your grind time for dailies by a lot of time.
And even if you have summons like soul seeker for AB, it increases your summon count even further which makes things faster for even those jobs too.
Another thing is, listen to music or video essays or podcasts while training. It makes things easier

Nah even that I get bored after 2 hours of playing sometimes. My advice personally, don't do things you don't feel like doing in that moment. Sometimes sitting there chatting in hene for an hour is a good mental break from monotenous grinding. Or sitting there talking to someone that is teaching you about another class.

for me i usually get burnt out just by thinking about all of the things i have to do before reset, im mostly a solo player, dont really talk to guildies other than share gains or run weekly seren/kalos so i what i would do is to start any series/anime (currently watching one piece) and then ill just pop a wap and some exp coupons
if i have to run my boss mules i play some hype music and sing my lungs off of them while doing bosses or i would play random cop/police cases on yt while doing boss mules, iguess i would go with whatever catches my attention at the moment of playing maple
but for me not paying 100% attention to maple helps me a lot from not burning out and of course doing a second thing while playing requires a 2nd monitor but aye, you gotta go with what u have.
but yea, you kill 2 birds with one stone if you play maple while doing or watching other stuff at the same time, just dont look 100% of the time at maple and you would not notice how far u can get in just a couple hours without burning out

My burnout actually came from lack of progress if anything. When there is an actual goal that I'm aiming towards, the game feels rewarding and fun, that is, right up till I got the AbsoLabs Gear + Hellux Accessories. Then, you have to farm the Arcane set, but it just takes too long to get them. You only get once per week to get them, and they drop like two if you have ur drop gears on. I might be unlucky, but even with 100% drop gears and 50% Legion boost, I still got two. I did finally got my first Arcane glove, aaand it needs to stay in the box till I get the others. And why the fuck are the droplets 50m mesos? So I just stopped playing for a while and focused on other things in my life. I picked it back up because of the event, and didn't even look at my main and decided to focus on getting more characters to complete my legion rather than focusing on my main, discovered other characters, tried out Hayato, liked him enough to the point he'll probably reach 260 by the end of this week. Personally, Maplestory could be more fun if there was no halt in this progress, but I don't think Nexon will change this anytime soon.

8:10 I've done roleplay and stuff on other major MMOs like FF14 and WoW, and that kept me playing those games for YEARS. On Maple, it's different - usually I find myself building personalities for characters based on the names I give them, and then I style their outfits around what I think either looks nice for them or what fits with the general idea. Different looks for different classes, etc

ur not crazy for making up lore and dressing ur characters up; I think making them feel more worthy and investing money in it eventually leads to an attachment. I don't think anyone likes playing with a character where u can see the CRA gear and all the clutter from the accessories, it gives a certain vibe that "this is not how a main should feel". Grateful for the pyramid expedition giving VIP hair and face coupons, it really made my character look a bit better without spending money on NX :P.
I'm known to chronically make accounts just to experience the 1-220 quick leveling and never stick with one account because the skills are not fun, or the damage is too low. When I have both, it becomes boring so I keep making new account to have the 'perfect hyper burn' (i blame my ADHD brain for not being a legion mule fanatic, but an account mule fanatic; the 1-150 leveling is soooooooo boring and feels slower than 200-220 for some reason). Now, I got 10k NX to use the pass for the event and got some quick levels and I made another new account afterwards; during the leveling of this 'new accounr' my mind went like "I spent money on that other account, i can't let it go to waste" so I went back and I'm almost reaching 250 now (aiming for the 260). So, how u do it with ur characters, I do it with an account haha... Granted, I struggle to farm for the duration of a WAP so I just accepted that I'll just level with dailies and do bosses when I can.
Totally different experience but I can relate with ur thinking.

The pains you're talking about have to do with having a poor ergonomics setup...like a bad chair, sitting either too high or having your arms elevated too high those will give you shoulder, wrist and back pains/strains and neck pain can come from having your monitor on the wrong height. My main thing to not burn is doing on 2 accounts 5-10min grind for dailies and finish it to a total of 30min grind per account for the highest efficiency in training so I always have the extra 10% xp home buff on both chars besides all the other easy to come by xp buffs and most of the times I only do MPE on my Paladin since that char is like 6-7 times stronger than my PF. Currently they are 284,6 Paladin and 278,3 Path finder and only in the weekends I do on top of that on both the weekly bosses and on 3 more 260+ boss mules. As you showed your xp progression on Maple rankings for both my chars it is like a horizontal line how the xp per day goes, with only Sunday being slightly higher due to that's the only day I run the normal MP 7 times because of the extra xp on Sunday's.

New players should be looking to get 10k legion, 10 lvl 225 boss mules, and at least have their main at 275 in the first 2 months of playing. If you can’t do this, you shouldn’t be playing Maplestory. /s

Just my opinion here maybe, but i gotta say, i think u're qualifying ur statements abit too much, for example the whole bit about going to the gym, it felt like u were worried about people thinking u're lame or something (obviously just speculation here) for saying that and u qualified almost every statement a lot. not that it really matters tbh, the points still stand, but it feels like u're not as confident and i think thats an important part of presentation... i was about to qualify all of that with 'i might be wrong tho' but that would've been too ironic lol
