Hard to believe the 1st time I played this game was 24 years ago in high school, definitely a timeless classic and bummed they delayed HW3, but I'm gonna trust it's for a good reason and hopefully we get it when it's ready, it has a big legacy to live up to.
Well... It did. Don't know if you saw how it did, but it could've been so much more. I don't dislike all of it, but you deserved better. We all did.

Just remember the Homeworld motto "Mine, Mine, Mine." Capture everything with salvage corvettes, the only thing better then destroying an enemy ship is to steal it and use it against them.
Also your ships auto-launch unless you deselect it in the launch tab in the upper right. If you don't want your harvesters damaged your going to have to disable that so they remain in the mothership.
Yeah, salvagers are the best. In the original, pre-remaster I stole so many enemy ships I had to salvage the excess.
one of the most satifiying opening and end scenes a classic; also a lore note that was I believe mentioned in te original manual is that mothership burned out it's non ftl engines clearing the scaffhold and that is why you can't move the ship during the campaign
i didnt even know that and we didnt even fix it even we jumping to anywhere even with lot of reaource sector.
@@4IZUKI i think in lore they expected to dock with the scaffhold again after returning from the rendezvous with the Khar-Selim they did not have the facilities onboard the mothership to fix the issue

I really wish they had kept Fuel consumption in the game for fighters and corvettes, as it was for the classic game.
Removing it makes several of the support ships entirely superfluous, and removes the need for managing fleet logistics.
You couldn’t just send your fighters and corvettes into the void, you needed to give them support ships, and in turn you needed to protect those support ships from enemy attacks. Now, you can just focus on attack vessels, and not have to plan for any support outside of repairs.
It’s really a bigger loss to the strategy gameplay than most people realize.
Agreed. It may have sucked in certain situations, but that was the point: it added stakes to your strategies and therefore your outcomes.
this is an amazing throw back time moment. just installed homeworld in a old computer.
You really must play Deserts of Kharak. I love them all Homeworld, Homeworld 2, Homeworld Cataclysm and Deserts of Kharak. Can't wait for Homeworld 3.
The first time I saw this game being played I went and purchased a computer worthy of it. This game still looks/plays better than most. Like Raptor, this game and World of conflict might be my two favorite games. I'm definitely looking forward to Homeworld 3

You're in for a real treat. An absolutely groundbreaking RTS with a compelling & atmospheric story, beautifully and stylishly told. This game inspired so many others as well as the music in the Battlestar Galactica reboot. Enjoy!🙌
Heck, I remedy one of the inspirations for this series, a book series from the 70s called the Terran Trade Authority.
Is this game friendly to first time rts players or should I start with something easier?
@@Ash14760 Homeworld is a little different to most RTS's as it works in three dimensions (even if it's just a small variation on a flat plane).
You may be better off starting with "Homeworld deserts of Kharak" as it's a ground based RTS and while it's the newest game, it's a prequel which would nicely set up the story for Homeworld and Homeworld 2.
Funny thing is Relic actually wanted to license BSG from Universal when they developed Homeworld. Universal wouldn't sell the rights, mostly because they were in the early stages of doing the Rebooted series, the result is Homeworld, a universe that has about as much depth as Galactica.
FYI there are camera controls to chase follow individual fighters if my memory serves, if you want a treat.

Breathtaking space battles, eyecatching unit designs and backgrounds, music that will keep your soul happy.
But I can't call their SP campaign The Greatest when we have Star Craft and War Craft out there. It is still really great tho.
It was really fun to replay it while being adult with some of the game dev knowladge. Apreciating attention to deteils in some places. Looking how some of the units show similar issues you were attempting to fix for units in your game. Amazed by how good performance is while some of the modern game engines won''t be able to allow you same capabilities out of the box.
Homeworld had one thing Warcraft and Starcraft didn't, three dimensional combat, in fact the only other RTS that did was Star Wars Rebellion.
@@HossBlacksilver that hase its usage in multiplayer, yes, but barely has anything to do with SP campaign. Player is simply much better engaged in a story of SC and WC compared to HW, that's why I mentioned that.
I played only the first one back in the day, and i remember one character that has the same name as me, Elson of Capella, my name also is Elson!
Then this week, Epic released for free Hw1 and 2, i tought with myself... i think i'm gonna buy and play Deserts of Kharak first, and boy, i wasn't disapointed! Superb campaing pretty awesome story despite be a prequel.
Now i gonna replay Hw1 and finally play Hw2 that i didn't play and wait for Hw3!
I was in awe when i saw the scene from the beginig of the very first game unfold right at the end of Deserts of Kharak and i'm in awe to finally discover the name of Fleet Command!
The visuals alone are enough to make me want to play this game. 😊
Honestly, the original versions (not Remastered) were way ahead of their time visually.
Good to hear you are playing HomeWorld. We added a mod that changed all the ships to resemble the Robotech ships, SDF-1, and Veritech fighters.
I need to replay the remaster again, I never played 2, but I did complete the original 1.
My first exposure to the radio intercom chatter was from C&C RA2. Without knowing I was being called a “commander”, I received this as a sign of intelligence and began a spiritual awakening
I loved this game as a highschooler. I actually got into map-making for a bit, as it came with a mission editor.
I'm sad they haven't done a remaster of Homeworld Cataclysm. I really enjoyed the ship types and game play on that one. That said the sound and feel of Homeworld 1 was fantastic

They did want to, but iirc they said the source code was gone so they couldn't do it with the resources they have.
However you can play the game still. GoG has the game updated to run on modern PCs under the name Homeworld: Emergence (had to be renamed because Blizzard copyrighted the Cataclysm or some dumb thing).
@@legoholic Yep. I'd heard the same. Source Code got lost. It's good that GoG at least salvaged the unremastered original to run on modern PCs.

Homeworld, Homeworld 2, and Homeworld: Cataclysm (now rechristened as Homeworld: Emergence on Good Old Games, but no remaster) really were way ahead of their times.

Classic Homeworld (1999) definitely had some good AI for its time - definitely better than the remaster when at release things like formations were completely non-functional. Thankfully the 2.3 update and players patch have mostly fixed things in 2023.

Very nice. Great vid. Just to let you know that you can also select ships from the tactical menu. Don't forget to dock your ships now and then to repair and refuel.

@@wadam111 That was a while back. Not sure on how to now. You might have to watch a vid on it. Or read into the Tactical menu info. It might just be a simple drag a square around it and then select from the group.

This game IS the best RTS of all time.
Sadly the remaster kinda ruins the gameplay and tactics compared to the vanilla game. But its still a blast.
im actually excited about homeworld 3 cant wait to play it i still play 1&2 remastered i nabbed it on sale at some point on steam, who still has the disc? i think i only have my rome-total war disc from back in the day somewhere
I have the original game disc I bought the day of release, as well as the amazing manual. I also have the original discs from Cataclysm and HW2.
I also am looking forward to HW3.
Got both the 1 and 2 both with manual , also Cataclysm ; each as fun as 20 years ago
Last time I went through my garage I think HW Catacylsm at least is still in a jewel case, right next to a third eye blind album lol.

They don't make em like this anymore, talking about most "games" "creators". The Homeworld series kicked as an RTS and it literally came out the box and useable
Your Salvagers can also board and capture enemy ships anything that is bigger then a fighter..
Bigger ships need more Salvagers to override the engines.
I decided to play deserts of Karak and then a playthrough of all the other remastered Homeworlds about a year ago. When I got to the third level (where you are at the end of video) the game had like 5 or 6 assault frigates and they completely destroyed the cryo trays before I could do anything. They also destroyed my salvage corvettes before I could grab either the frigates themselves or the cryo trays. I was hard blocked that level and couldnt do anything no matter which strategy I went with. Theres a balancing issue with the remastered edition. It reaaaally pissed me off after having beaten the first game non remastered all those years ago that I just stopped playing.
