Jiren would be fine if yellow had an answer to him. Something like a 3 cost field card that says "once per turn, rest this card then choose up to 1 of your opponents battle cards. That card cannot become active and has its effects negated until the end of your opponents turn."
I really think once they add warp zone to the game it'll be fine. One of the colors will likely specify in removing a card or two from the game on play and it'll counter their engine.
A limit to 1 copy would probably be the better solution atm, until they make a "fixed" version that can't loop himself, so you can ban the broken one. The problem is specifically the loop, him grabbing other utility is perfectly fine with the current card pool, even if slightly frustrating at times. Sure, you could errata him, but being a physical card game makes that more awkward. You would need a reprint with the new text and even then you could have some awkward moments explaining to someone that the original one doesn't work as it is printed anymore.
i dont know why people complain blue for being the best in this set, like guys where were you when green and yellow was hella broken. It is not like vegeta is topku he is not that broken. If they need to touch something it has to be videl she is better than pilaf because you dont see 4 pilaf every game. if you touch pilaf blue will definetely change their play style into something more aggro than control and still loose because of the limitate hand card while other colors do their effect even if they have 13 card in hand. if you ban pilaf blue will fall with him
I understand that it should exist an errata so pilaf cant grab himself, but I also think that even though the color is not competitive a card like majin buu with barrier it kills any interaction that the other player could have its totally frustrating that the opponent no matter what i do its going have a 25k swing every turn
Alot of the people complaining about Green cards over this are people that truly dont understand the Meta. Androids are doing well because they can ramp extremely well, sure. However, they still lose out on Value compared to blue and HAVE to see their high-end or lose. They also have an insanely bad Jiren matchup. A single Pilaf adds an extreme amount of value to the rest of the game for the blue player. Blue can also tech against Droids with Absolute Lightning if they wish. Jiren is heavily unfavored against Blue as is due to bottom decking, everything denying any form of late game tanking options. Vegeta almost never gets bad hands and every hand has options to play. there's no counter play against the loop outside of other Blue cards (Zamasu, etc.) Which is where the issue lies.
I think pilaf is really good, and yes 7 hand limit isn’t truly 7, but on the defensive other than galic it really is. And that requires you to play off curve. Which is fine if you’re using pilaf as well. But if you are playing actual bodies off curve to save galic your falling behind. Big bodies that swing tall like black or green are unblockable with such a small hand size. And your board won’t be able to protect you anymore if you’re not looping pilafs. With blue being the best deck right now, I can see why pilaf may need to get hit. But I think the deck will be really bad if it does. 7 cards vs every other colour having like 12-15 card size hands is just not winnable
@EspiraTCG not entirely sure if that's what he meant, but your sitting here saying 7 in hand isn't 7 it's more like 9-10 still doesn't compare to 12+ not to mention if the pilaf aren't in your hand or on board on defense which wouldn't be if you used them on offense, you have no defense when they swing back
Bans are fine when a card is clearly overtuned in certain metas… that said, Pilaf is not one that I feel deserves a ban… as far as we know due to what we’ve seen with Kefla, we probably won’t get errata’s anytime soon if ever So I think FW could benefit from Yugioh’s thought process to ban/limit lists… we have outright banned cards, limit 1s and limit 2s with a once per set cycling list that changes up the meta every time new stuff is presented to the player base

in the case of a pilaf ban i would like to see a new 1 drop similar to hercule:gt where there's no archetype lock for those 1 cost pickups but it cannot pick up itself. It would still be a powerful card that allows blue's recursion but not to the ridiculous degree that pilaf does and ideally it's an earthling card so it can be recurred off of videl
Blue Vegeta wouldn't be half as strong eithout Pilaf, it makes him obnoxious. He gets 35k for hitting a super simple condition in 7 or less card in hand and then gets to play 3 1c cards and never lose hand size and then a 1c Bulma on top for a nearly unblockable swing with absolutely no cost to him cause Pilaf is always replacing itself. And now Videl grabs it too.
PIlaf would be probably fine untouched IF We got some (for all colors) grave/drop interaction. Let us (kill and) exile cards from drop and problem is kind of solved. We can just exile the Pilafs one by one. One of the Issue is that blue can just play Pilafs and..leave them on board unless the face..well guess what..Blue..or green Gohan/Broly who can send them to energy. Pilaf should definitly either take errata or ban. Even now when blue doesnt want to play extremely efficiently they can just use Videl/Pilafs to guard attacks at a cost of small tempo and then just wipe out the board (unless youre ramping green) with the tools to bottom/bounce and not lose much. Even if we assumed that hes not a problem now, hes limiting too much of future design..Every 1c or less (yes they might print 0c) earthling currently needs to be checked how good he would be with PIlaf(or Videl), but Videl at least have to attack and is 0 combo.
I think limiting him is fine now that videls in the game. Would incentivize players to explore other cards in the set. I know videls played in blue but most of the time you almost prefer having pilaf in hand. Making him a less consistent card would help. And it’d also get rid of the problem where he could recur himself. As a blue player since set 1, he’s just hard carried some games for me. A limit to 1 would also mean blue still gets to loop combo power so it doesn’t just auto lose to every color but not to the extent where you can have 3-4 pilafs on board to defend yourself while unawakened
A) as you said, game feel is just as important. Right now game length is WAY TOO LONG. I've had 3 games for 30 minutes to win by deck-out. This is the worst version of a Control meta possible, even if it is "balanced". B) "Interaction" - oh boy... Okay, so, what's the biggest difference between now and earlier sets? Decks are now running a lot more instant removal. Why? Because battling sucks. In this game, BATTLING SHOULD BE THE MAIN REMOVAL. When i swing a 30k or 35k at a 20k i should be reasonably sure I'll get that kill or ill drain him of precious resources. Neither happens now because card draw and recursion (across colors) is insane so endlessly defending a unit is easy. We don't need more instant removal, we need battling to be better.
I think this is a weird spot, blue isnt seeing nearly the same player numbers as topku was to justify a straight ban on a card, however I do feel like now is the best time to be talking about this since blue now has access to a second card that can start the pilaf loop. Best case scenario is he becomes a 5k halving his combo potential and putting him at the same level as the other 1 drop card draw. I do think that there are other cards that need to be looked at however without pilaf i dont think blue will have any chance in a green match up (as slim as the chance is now) and red being the gate keeper of the meta probably indicates problems in their design space. This is all coming from a blue player so there is probably a bias in there somewhere but if there is to be a ban coming out we should be looking at most colours not just blue.

I’ve been playing a lot of Jiren and have only lost once to a Beerus because I never saw a super combo. Jiren is busted, but if they hit his 4 cost his deck would suck so bad.

i wanted to get into this card game series but i just always have such worries with devoting myself to dragonball card games because of the lack of support in past ones :/ Does this one feel like its in for the long haul to you? i dunno if this makes any sense what im saying haha I just wish they did what pokemon has done where they have an app where you can play online and it kinda teaches you as well so you know what youre doing. i tried to run a (i cant recall) deck from the prior super card game and man it was confusing at first to get the rules down sadly
To be honest, I'm not playing the game at all right now because the only 2 decks I like right now are Black and Green. I don't have SCR SSJ4 besides one copy, and I don't wanna play droids. And I know if I play anything else, cards like Jiren or Saiyaman or Pilaf Loops are just going to keep popping up. It's so stale and demoralizing towards playing the game.
Green should be the first to be touched! It’s so over powered greens always been the meta it builds energy so fast the 8 costs need looking at and the 4 cost android card and then cell can play the 0 costs and the 3 cost energy field to gain all that energy for free green is so busted it’s making me not want to play the game anymore it’s boring
they should reduce 4c droids to 1 imo. It gives you 3 active energy, wich is actually too strong. Having 5 energies means you can potentially use droids 2 times in the same turn building an annoying board and at the same time ramping to 7 energies. androids can go from 5 to 8 in a single turn wich is nuts.
I agree with a pilaf going to one or even potentially being banned, however I also believe that as time has gone on it has been proven that 8c broly is too powerful as a generic high cost and should also be banned. I dislike broly’s power as a generic and would rather green pushes archetypal boss cards like piccolo or even boss cards like cell which are solid as generics but are more beneficial in the deck it has been made more.
This is the main reason i quit playing Bandai TCGs in general. Their lack of any real R&D and incredibly poor card/effect designs across all of their games is just too much for me. Literally every Bandai TCG in production suffers from the same game balancing issues. I mean if playing in extremely stale, unbalanced metas is your idea of fun, more power to you but i typically prefer better designed games that dont suffer from such things as often or in as great a capacity as all Bandai games seem to suffer from.

I said this from set 1, that Pilaf rotation seems broken. I think maybe limited to two.
As a yellow player I have lost a lot of faith in this game when my entire deck can be obsolete for an entire format because of one card they printed.
