I want to get an extension done on my own property and there is a manhole in the way. Great video as this is an eye opener for me to know how extensive the works are. Much appreciated Darren keep them vlogs coming.
Hi Darren, Spent about 3 hours on the trot watching this playlist. I've learnt so much and really appreciate you putting it out there. But hey man, do yourself a favour, treat yourself to a nice good quality battery powered SDS drill. You really don't want all those nasty electric cables and tools near water. If you get a chance I'd love to see you do a video about all that boring paperwork you have to do before you start and during the build. :)
Hi Darren you know that you can get a drain bung to stop the flow from the manhole upstream you can hold the stream back for a day or so.... keeps it dry where you are working... Always good fun taking them out afterwards
Yeah I didn’t have one but we improvised with rubble bags 🤣 we only needed 5mins anyway so it worked out. Will likely use one when we are removing the old existing manhole 👍🏾
Love a bit of drainage. I got a torx wrench on the last bit I did as saw on the rubber couplings it has what they need tightening too so the metal clip does not cut into the rubber. Glad you blocked the other chamber else you would of been up to you kness in it. Good luck with the rest of your project.
It looks like a house upstream has a leak. That flow was constant. Normally the flow would stop and start as taps are turned on and off or a loo is flushed.
Nasty job but you got it done. Good job! Next time try digging a sump in the corner for the water to collect and a full size disc saw cuts all the way through without the risk of breaking the pipe. Just a thought 👍🏻
@@darrenthebuilder Sounds daft but I’ve seen a few other TH-cam people getting those big Evolution cut off saws. I’m sure they are a sponsored thing. Look into it if you’re interested. This looks like an exciting build 👍🏻
Tough episode working in that coffined space with water coming through the pipe , made it funny by the using the drill and looking like it wasn't plugged in
It was oil 😊 I have a silicone grease I use but couldn’t find it so just used what I had around which worked fine. You can use dish washing liquid as well to help the rubbers go in.
🤣 thankfully it didn’t smell. We did block the manhole next to us so that stopped any solids that may have come down while we worked them unblocked it after we were done. Good thing we did because someone at a house above used the toilet 🥴😂
Yeah they are good. They’re actually the preferred fitting of the water company but the problem is you can’t use them both ends as you need a slip coupler to get the other end connected.
@@darrenthebuilder ive notice its got a stop in the connector which stops the 110m pipe going through. what if you filed it out, would it slide over and pass through the pvc pipe. look like it would.
I luv how you tackle every aspect of the build, well done Darren and team.
I'm doing this now. It's not pleasant. My own house. I'd never do it for anyone else. Nasty work
Some jobs can be awkward and very messy. Great job though guys. Enjoy the oncoming snow. Stay well.

I like the way you know what to do and you just go for it now messing about!
Thank you for showing how the sewer system runs underneath backyards in the UK. That was tiring and disgusting work replacing the inspection chamber.

good luck with the rest of the project hope it all goes smoothly
Normally I'd stick a large piece of rag tied with rope to bung the flow coming down . Then when the jobs done just pull the thing out.
@@nedloh17 I just ordered a fancy inflatable one so when we remove the old manhole it should be a lot cleaner!
what a nasty job Boss well done your boys are fantastic team

A tough job and workspace. Well done, gents.
Wellies with an accent colour! Boom!
Great job well done team.
Darren, This bit is always stressful... Good Work Mate..... Bob (Weston super Mare)

Challenge. Well done. Skills on skills

Good idea thanks. I used to have a large saw but got stolen from our last job, I need to get another one

Bipolar weather😅- love it. Yes mucky job but turned out well 👍
Those grinder on and off switches are a pain 😬😬😬 especially with gloves Darren
Pain in the a€$e lol I hate them
It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it. Glad it wasn't me.
well done

Lucky no logs came down the pipe 😅
What did you use Darren, from the bottle? Was it a kind of glue or soap? I like youre new wellies. They look like Le Bouton with the red soles😂😁.

You should be proud of yourself mate... You get sh*t done! ;)
In the last video you said you were going to divert the soil pipe to the garden is this not the plan now ?
Did you watch the whole video? I explained everything
@@darrenthebuilder No , I did forward a couple of bits
Darren, what was the smells like down there 😬🤢?

thats the first time ive seen those pvc to clay undergronund connectors (not the flexi seals). are they a good fit onto the clay?
Yeah they are good. They’re actually the preferred fitting of the water company but the problem is you can’t use them both ends as you need a slip coupler to get the other end connected.
@@darrenthebuilder good point as then you have to buy another connector which defeats the object.

Shame to dirty the new boots and well worth getting the bung for next time. Makes a nasty job slightly less nasty.
Yeah definitely. I literally just ordered an inflatable one for when I’m ready to remove the old manhole
Those old clay pipes are evil , one bang to many and 💥💥💥 start again . I would be swearing quite a lot at this stage 🤬🤬🤬
Lol yeah had to cut back further after a bit broke
You got to love a bit of 240v in an hole with water in it. Good job though.
You was lucky to get away with that, imagine if a neighbour had emptied a bath. Obviuosly never heard of a drain bung.
Lol we did plug the manhole above us so that stopped everything. Just little trickles coming down mate
