Thank god you are all okay. Blowing the head fuse is a real bugger but much rather that than injury or death. Hopefully the UKPN or the power company manage to get whichever cowboy did that work....
"Interesting day" 😬 brushing up on deadly rogue cable. I'm just picturing the additional scenario of wet shoe stepping on a pointy spade driven into cable. Faaawk me, deadly.
That was very naughty. Here in US you have to use a breaker in the main box. Use under ground cable to a sub panel, with a main breaker to control the sub panel. Be careful .
it looks like 6mm SWA. it wasnt terminated correctly either as they should be glanded. the steel in the armour get earthed at either end. taking the feed directly off the 100A supply lucy blocks, really it should have been a separate switch fuse supply maybe 60 or 80A, less than the main fuse inside the cutout so there is discrimination.
@@darrenthebuilder The DNO would not get involved in anything after the main fuse, or isolator (if fitted) and the electricity supplier would not get involved in transporting power out of the house. That is a dodgy 'electrician' or DIY job👍
@@Mark-gf7yw I spoke to the engineer and he’s believes that someone (likely worked for them) did the job on the side. He said that the cable is their cable and only they would have it (can’t remember the exact name of the cable) and he said that there is a brand main fuse etc installed in the garage which is something that only they would have available. It’s now been passed on the investigation department to come out and have a look.
It's the wrong type of cable (it should be SWA) it is not fused via its own switch fuse. It has sigle insulated conductors exposed outside of containment. It is not buried deep enough (450mm) and there is no warning tape in the trench above it. So it is not compliant in any way!
@@darrenthebuilder A PEN conductor cable. Where there is one cable core which is used as the live and then the outer sheath of the cable is used as the neutral. BS7671 actually states that this type of cable should not be used within a consumers installation.
IMHO ... I would do away with the new round manhole cover and use the old square one that accepts the block pavers ... just needs a course of bricks around the manhole for it to sit on
You're right. I just spoke to the engineer who said its their cable which was put in illegally by someone who probably works for them (under the table job)
its only earth if one or both ends have been glanded and terminated property to earth. even if it was swa it can still be cut as he was lunging that mattock around.
I like the chamfering tool for the drain pipe. Saves carrying another tool around.
I like the sanding block for smoothing off the cut ends of the pipe. 😁
Get yourself a Cat and Genny Darren. That experience alone is enough to make sure cable avoidance is taken care of on every job. Glad you are all safe
I'd agree or pay for a survey before to locate services.
Always great when someone decides to go to the crapper right when you're filming 😂
Glad no one was injuired and the professional response into getting it sorted correctly.
Brilliant Sublime as always well done - pesky ⚡🤠 cowboy sparky ! - done my 17th still to do 18th .. fantastic stuff ... 👏👏👏
Wow, very lucky there Darren. Very naughty of them, looks like they bypassed the consumer unit also (free elecy). great work done though. Stay well.
The meter measures electricity usage, not the consumer unit 😉
You might be right
It was linked in after the meter, so no free leccy

pipe grease...makes couplers go on so much easier
Thank goodness you all were not injured by that dodgy electric wire that the previous owner installed.

Guys that’s hard work have done it loads of times
If the garage has its own earth rod its not the worst way. But the supply should be coming out of the service head and not the feed from the fuse

Doesnt look like SWA to me though. Very dodgy
Yeah the electric company said it’s not swa. I explain what they said in todays video upload.
@@iceman6555 yes ive look again and its not swa.
Is there a Earth rod installed at the garage end of that armoured and rcd consumer board fitted in garage?
I have no idea. I never looked down there. I don’t see and earth so it could be so
you mean they could have made in a tns? system as they didn't export the earth.
@@JayG2K just tried to simplify it for the less knowledgeable
Definitely a dodgy job, but armoured generally does not require RCD protection 👍
Just found out its not actually an armoured cable. Its the electric companies cable put in by someone dodgy

ebay style wiring there

It is square, its a round cover in a square frame
@@darrenthebuilder But it's not designed for block pavers
It's pretty shit the way it's wired but the 1361 fuse offers the disconnection time and as it's after ther meter it will be metered.
No way is that armoured cable ... The armour is the earth wrapped around it ... would need a sharp spade to cut through it

How lucky are you that it’s paving to lift not thick concrete? How are your re-paver laying skills Darren? 😂
Lucky you guys weren’t electrocuted. 🤬
