The purpose of the knurled black ring is to keep working with your fingers after the ratcheting mechanism doesn’t have enough resistance to work. Just twist that with your fingers to keep backing the screw out
So happy I went all out and got the leatherman ratchet, bit kit along with the extender when I got my surge. It seems like I picked up whatever was in their last batch because it’s been out of stock since. I was on the fence with getting it, Very happy I bought it!
I bought mine on a whim at REI and saw them in stock there even after they were unavailable online. But they've been out of stock everywhere for a while now.
I did the same with my wave+ when I initially got it pre pandemic and it was still sort of a bit of a challenge finding them in stock for reasonable price.
These are both really cool if you are absolutely limited on space and will only use it for minor purposes. However, the ICON micro ratchet set is extremely compact, everything is fairly high quality, bit selection is great, and the ratchet and extension allow you to use it in a multitude of ways. Pair it with 1/4" shallow sockets and you can tackle anything up to 15mm or more. It's actually insane how much that kit alone can competently do, for such a low price. Sometimes I break it out just to test its limits with machinery applications. Can always remove it from the case and use cheap plastic bit & socket holders too if desired for compact storage, but the case is so damn well made I never want to. The set is on sale sometimes. Definitely worth a review.
Buy a 1/4” hex to 1/4” square adapter and you have a literal 1/4” ratchet too. You carry around a few of your small sockets that you need and can eliminate one bulky tool from your carry! That’s an idea for sure. I can’t say I’d use it for a bit drover though. I prefer my straight ratcheting driver
That's nice to know I've got three of them and 3 of the Leatherman ratchet driver and I've just done a quick Google search as well they are not available Leatherman ratchet in the Uk
THANKYOU for your heads up regarding the 7-11 mini ratchet! I really enjoy your channel and your knowledge and I am interested in any such mini tools!!!!!👍🔧✅👍👌💪💯✅😊
You gotta pick up that Harbor Freight ICON little 1/4" ratchet. That thing is really nice. I guess if you had to connect it to your Leatherman, you can use a 1/4" bit adapter in the Leatherman to insert into the end of the wrench handle. Probably not ideal but if it scratches that "I need to use this with my Leatherman however ridiculous it is" itch then knock yourself out. :D
@@xscmurcielago It's not as small as this one but it's perfect for an EDC pouch. You can find reviews on it by searching TH-cam for Harbor Freight ICON 1/4" Locking Flex Head Ratchet.
That icon set is so awesome and versatile! I love the different modes and the whole set is so small. I immediately thought of that when I started watching this video
Funny. Im doing the same. Also have a Schrader valve core bit coming in I'm hoping to use in the bottom bit part. All in one tpms/core tool if it works.
What is the advantage of inserting the ratchet into the Leatherman? Are you looking for additional leverage? I think this could potentially break either tool. 🤔
Snapped the bit holder in my wave with one of these but Letherman fixed it and refurbished my old wave free of charge. Just a heads up not to ugga dugga it.
Taylor. Thanks for the video and the nice ratchet. One question: wich kind / model of multitool do you use in this video? It looks like a FREE P2 or P4 but I do not know any of this models with a bit holder. New model of Leatherman? Prototype? Kind regards from Cologne/germany: George
I have a small pass-through ratchet as well. I fail to see the advantage to having one set up to work with a Leatherman bit extender, however. To each their own I suppose.
Good video! I would love to see more of this type of content. I say this with kindness, hopefully... A lot of content here has become so high-end that it leaves many in the EDC community behind. I don't begrudge anyone who has a preference for and ability to fund those high-end items, but there is so much great gear at the multiple levels. Mix it up a bit more with good value (price: quality ratio) gear outside of the "shopping for complete EDC at XYZ."
As much as I was a Leatherman fan, now they are slowly falling in my eyes. Their quality control is poor, they discontinue the product without notifying the consumers. A friend bought a Victorinox multitool, I was shocked at how much better quality it is than my wave plus and the price is the same. Not to mention that I immediately returned Rebar and Wave plus for warranty out of the box, and skeletonool has blade play up and down right out of the box
Carrying a Multi Tool with a bunch of extra gadgets that snap on that does a bunch of tasks kinda poorly and uncomfortably < having a small pouch of dedicated tools that are compact but capable
Why don’t you just use a small ratchet? Not sure why use you have to try and attach your leatherman to it. This would be useful if it was part of the tools that were built in.
I solved my screwdriver problem by getting a Chapman ratchet and building a 1/4 adapter with their 1/4 Allen bit and a broken bit extension I already had. (Broken as in the hex shaft had come out of the bit holder.)
anyone have a recommendation for a small flashlight I can attach to my dog leash that can take a beating from a puppy in the event it gets a hold of it? New dog owner and searching for poop in the dark on late night potty walks is getting rough. now that I think of it a video on "dog owner EDC" might be kinda cool leash, poop bag holder, light, water bowl, water bottle, etc. are just basics I can think of.

Good tip. Thanks
AKA a socket spinner. (Something that's often included in a decent socket set.)
The leatherman ratchet has a neutral that makes it a manual extender.....

Love those small ratchet drivers. I have the Topeak ratchet rocket lite. It comes with bits and tyre levers. Great for bikes and IKEA furniture!
I got this little ratchet with the bit kit to go with the SOG Powerpint... The ratchet fits in the bit holder end.

What is that attachment on the bit holder?
I use that 711L to replace tpms sensors,it’s small enough so I don’t need to take the whole tire off😎

Lucky me! The ratchet is fully available here in the northern EU
What is the brand of the knife?
if you push down on it you can still ratchet thanks to the hole exposing the bit on the back.
I would always be interested in learning about new gadgets!
fun format!
This was awesome information. Please do more videos like this!
You bet 🤘🏻
Yea I like this video format
Taylor! I love you videos dude, but it made me soooo sad to see you remove the skull clip from that new Chaves 229 Kickstop lol.
It was just for this video. I have the drop point and tanto and I'm carrying the drop point with the skull clip lol

Wild theres still supply issues, and people are scalping them for ludicrous prices

What's the closest thing I can get to a beer bomb opener
Leatherman taking notes to present their next "revolutionary" multitool at 1k$ 😂
That would probably be more like a "park" gear than a "neutral" gear. ;-)
I have one of these, it works well with the Leatherman bit extenders as well
Absolutely more of these type videos
Aye that thing is awesome!!🔥
Hey, good to see you here, dude!
Thought this was a Zac in The Wild video..
That’s interesting
What leather man is that?
Free P-something. Better question is what mod is that bit holder?
Muy buena herramienta cómoda y portátil para una emergencia inesperado saludos
I've wanted to gift the ratchet driver to my dad for a while now. Maybe I could get this for him instead.

No need to have the neutral setting. Simply brace your fingertip against the bit you have just enough tension to ratchet the screw completely out
That's not always possible
They are coming back by late 2024.
