    I've found with my Katana Artist MK2 I cut the 16khz by -6 db and that really helped with the harsh bitiness of the amp.

    I was so underwellmed when I got mine. And same once I figured out how to use the EQ, it has just blown my mind how versatile it really is. I use a Harley Benton amarok, active pick ups. It's an awsome amp. It can adapt to any genre of music. I play metal and it's amazing. I don't care what people say. They just don't know how to use them properly. Tone studio's is a must to unlock its full potential. Now with the new update theirs 2 more distortion pedals. The HM-2 am metalcore. How could you complain about with what you get for the price. Yeah get a tube amp foe $1500 then get tubescreamer or distortion pedal for another $500. No thanks $350 and you can get more effects than you'll ever need and you can get any sound from crisp cleans to hi gain and everything in between.

    Hi Alex, thanks for the tip. It's a bit of a learning curve to get the best from this amp. Your tips are some of the best I've seen. Should have way more views. I could see someone setting up a whole library of patches with different EQ's, and gain structures, to emulate different amplifiers.

    I was very underwhelmed when I got my Katana 50 Mk 2, especially with the heavier crunch tones. Using the EQs in Tone Studio made a big difference. I also use the different amp types in the Katana Librarian app which has improved it even more.

    A great tool is the gumtown Floorboard. It allows you to create custom Chains, so you can put any effect in any location. The other thing it has, aside from all the ‘sneaky’ amps, is hundreds of preconfigured patches. I’m loving this amp

      I think it also has some extra parameters for some of the FX too. It's been a while since I've used it. Maybe I didn't take the time to learn it properly but I found it unintuitive and confusing. I enjoy the Librarian app because Tone Studio itself is often slow

      There is also the Katana Librarian for Android. Access to two EQ blocks, without having to use up the Mod or Fx blocks. Another tip is to use a looper and loop a guitar riff into the amp. That way, you can tweak away without having to play (until your final tweaks for feel and response).

    I totally agree!!!
    When I got it I thought it was mediocre at best.
    Just basically ehh unimpressive straight out of the box.
    Then I started using the Katana Librarian app for android and WOW!!! there it was!! Finally good tone!!

    I have the Artist and had the same effect. One thing is turn down the gain section volume and turn up the master, same as a tube amp and the feel and tone is better. Tone Studio is a must.

    • @alex-kenivel
      @alex-kenivel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ha - if only! I keep mine at 0.5w and have to keep the master before halfway or my daughters will start screaming at me! Even at rehearsals when I have it at 50w mode its super loud and I have to keep it down or I bleed into my vocal mic.

      I have noticed the same thing concerning the volume with the katana. People were telling me to keep the channel volume maxed and use the master volume to control overall volume, but I found the tone was much better once I cut the channel volume down for about halfway or so and crank the master volume a bit.

    I got the MK 1 version. 100 Watt head into a Marshall 4--12....I use various pedals with it. I NEVER use the "Tone Studio" ever.
    I love it.

    Pre and post eq for distortion is critical and has been around forever. Tube amps as well need this.

    Hi, I'm having a really hard time with the Katana.
    How is it possible for me to make a global eq high cut at 5khz and then hear differences when I tweak for example the 16khz in the graphic eq ?

    • @alex-kenivel
      @alex-kenivel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One EQ is cutting and one is boosting, they're kind of canceling each other out that way

    Did you try Global EQ??? This seems more complicated than necessary.

    • @alex-kenivel
      @alex-kenivel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't want to use the global EQ for this application - I'd instead want to tailor it to the specific preset I'm using. Pre and Post EQ are tried-and-true tricks engineers perform when dialing in amp tones, sorry if it comes off too complicated.

    Ok, but what most of us are interested is how does it sound through the speaker

      I wasn't very happy with clean tones until I discovered the Natural Clean sneaky amp model. Before that I was using the Brown channel with the gain down and some input attenuation.

  • @chriswalton3383

    The parametric eq is better than the global. You need to mess with the actual eq. Not the one in the fx or mods.

    • @alex-kenivel
      @alex-kenivel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont use the global EQ for anything, really, just the parametric and the graphic in each preset. Those are actual EQs, unless you meant the tonetack EQs? I adjust for the room with those -- to each their own.

    • @chriswalton3383
      @chriswalton3383 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alex-kenivel yeah sorry I did get them mixed up. I use the graphic EQ in the FX and the actual EQ tab in tone studio, it's on the parametric EQ, on the amp out position. Plus a little adjustment on the 3 band EQ on the panel. I've got what I think is a pretty awsome meal tone. I've been wanting to share my patch but have no idea how. Do you know how to share patches with other people?

    • @alex-kenivel
      @alex-kenivel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chriswalton3383 Export it from Tone Studio and upload it to something like dropbox and share the link. I've never done it myself, especially since I've swapped my speaker. I dont think mine will translate well to other users amps without a Creamback
