I was a logistics clerk for the Marines in 1st Battalion, 11th Marines and I worked for the motor T guys. Those 5 ton trucks and dueses (humvee's too) would break down all the time. It was usually three things that would do it.., the alternator, the starter or the glow plugs. We were always short on our budget for parts, so the mechanics would go out on expeditions at night and "acquire" the parts they needed from the other battalions that were better funded than we were. 🤣 Ah, those were good days!
@eliasvsbarnes ; like I said, I was the logistics clerk, not a mechanic. This was about 27 years ago, too. Now that I think of it, I think it was the humvee's with the glow plug problem? I'm not sure, I just know that we were constantly ordering glow plugs.
Ah, Midnight requisition… Once, “appropriated”, a storage building / shed, our Commander had requested, but, was denied, as Battalion, had tagged it for demolition. UH-60, aircraft recovery team, under NVG’s, and a few gallons of paint. Next a.m., it was sitting in our Company area. Good times…
Cerro Gordo already has a 5 ton thanks to Alan's boss Dave Sparks. But another like E48 with a permanent water tank might be cool. But I expect Alan will have similar need for a water tanker. Brent uses portable water boxes in the bed of the all-purpose 5 ton that he has for hauling water up the mountain. Brent has the remains of I think a WW2 vintage GMC military truck up at CG. But that is FAR from being a viable vehicle. My wife and I went up to CG last October and that road really is a HELL of a climb. Maybe not as severe as Alan's smaller mountain, but several miles of it vs Alan's 1/2 mile.
Collecting ... a nice euphemism, ha ha. He has spent a lifetime "collecting." He will die happy with ALL OF IT, and MORE..... amazing how things were made back then... irreplaceable.
I love the idea there is some serious work / changes going on this year. You have mentioned getting help this summer it would be amazing if you end the year with a functioning shop and a fleet of working heavy machinery / trucks
In the sixties, my friend Gary and I would play with our diecast trucks in a covered sand and gravel area his Dad had built. We would line them all up when we were done, stand like giants, and admire our collection. The crazy thing is I think Alan has more of a collection of actual trucks lined up, ready to come alive with fluids, batteries, and wizardry.
Alan you’re awesome. You remind me of my dad I always said he would buy a 1000 things for a dollar instead of buying one good thing for $1000 lol 😂 . Love your videos you’re always working hard.
I have been watching since the beginning and I have not figured much out. The castle must be for a future summer home since it is not accessible in the winter. What are all the square body trucks for? Why so many Deuces? With all the negative talk about them are they gaining value? It certainly does not look like there is any intention of selling anything so my only take is that he only wants to have them. Certainly an interesting place.
Ok I feel better about myself. I thought I was a crazy women waiting to watch Al back at the fortress having a good time playing around with big boy toys. Other women must like it too🤣😂
Alan, you are a very intelligent, motivated, and interesting man! It really would be neat to hear a little bit about your history and how and when you purchase the mountain and such. Thank you for the videos!!
It's awesome seeing your vids but man how i miss driving those trucks , i was a motor transport operator and drove everything on wheels and tracks during my time military time .
What's the plan with all of the old military trucks? It seems like you might be wise to sell as many off as you can to raise money (and clear space) for other stuff.
Always loved the Deuce and Halfs!! :) .. I was in the Canadian Reserves bak in the 70's .. I never got to drive muh except to say I did it :) .. But road in the back MANY hundreds of miles!! :) ... And collected many tons of trash on the garbage runs to the nearby Dump :) There was one spot on the run I'd switch from one trucks running board to another going the opposite direction without stopping :) Always wanted one for myself, with the multi fuel capacity!!
Worked for a Company that ran a Pipe line from Northern Salt Lake to Vegas. We purchased 5 6x6 from an old boy in Toole. They where great machines. The breaks had a little to be desired. But I will always Love running them trucks. They where a Bladt.😊
Love the M35s as well! My favorite truck as well. Like to see u put these trucks back in working order! I'll watch those vids for sure!!!! Hate the white paint on them! They deserve camo or the OD green paint!!!
You must not have listened to his intro. He is moving the trucks to level the property. There is a sloping grade that makes it difficult and leveling it will make it more usable and the area larger.
@dorenelwillis I did hear the intro. However, he said he's bringing more stuff in. So I was just wondering what's his plans for all of the old trucks and why is he bringing more in, to do what with them.
When I was in the military, drove duce and a halfs for many years. When I would drive them around the yard, I would sometimes put the transfer case in low. This would make it start moving easier and make it easier to steer in tight spaces. One thing to remember though is that you have to put it back in high range when you park so that the next driver won't be driving around in low range by mistake.
i wonder about possibly having a concrete slab set up there for storage. it would help possibly keep the landscape among all the vehicles and parts from washing away in floods, but might help lower ground contact rusting issues over long periods. but maybe also to help organize the space, it could have lot lines and space zones marked out for efficiency, and for organization. also, it might help keep the weeds from growing up in and among the vehicles as those are a fire hazard, and fire is one thing i know you would like to mitigate as much as possible eh. also, i agree with some others that you could use some sort of warehouse like building in the depot area, for protecting and maybe even securing (against theft) of historical vehicles and also components that could be easily carried off by the unscrupulous ones in the world with bad ideas over other peoples things. might be costly, but i know you have a budget that you work with for supply runs and such, and daily living needs. so it coudl be worked into the schedule for the next few years or piecemeal slabs as you go, if this a thing you want to do or might consider.
Ya know how little boys would line up their Tonka trucks on the shelf and pull them down every once in a while. That’s Alan with all these army trucks. Maybe I can’t understand it but that’s just me. They’re cool that’s for sure. But I wonder what the long term plan is.
Hi Alan. It might make an interesting video if you went into some details about how you came to acquire such a large collection of rare and unusual vehicles. Hearing about all the deuce and a half's, old Dodges and square bodies must be a pretty cool story.
I put a many a mile in the 70"s on a Duce and a Half with a trailer. I hauled some stuff with them Multi Fuel Trucks. I burned JP4 in one plus Gas and a Mix of Oil and turned the exhaust stack Red Hot one night going down the Autobahn in Germany. I could split shift one start in Low Low go to through the gears to Third then grab the arm and pull it up on the transfer case to Third High and keep going. Never got one stuck ever. A gamma Goat yes, a 5 ton NO!. I used to Haul Tanks with a 10 Ton everywhere. Kinda fun.
Double return springs were common on civilian diesel engines also...idea being that if one failed the other could get you to the next post-trip inspection.
Allen, did I hear you say 88"?! Leveling that much dirt and area would take forever! Not to mention all the hours it'll take just to move all that stuff out of there.
Hmmm, maybe focus on his stuff first, once he has a system down, then branch out and see what else he can do. Baby steps, brother Alan has many, many irons in the fire and he has priorities (mountain fortress) and nobody here is getting younger. Alan, you're doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work.
Hey Alan at 25:00 you have a hard time getting to that Brake Line Breather Fitting. How bout modifying a brake line wrench. Cut of about a 1- 1 1/2 inch off the end. Then drill the cut end of the wrench and then adapt an extension to create a pivot point. It would take a little effort or fiddling to work the wrench back and forth but easier that trying to get under that bracket with a long wrench trying to work it at and angel. Just an idea that popped into my head.
Love you videos Alan be nice to know what you are going to do with all those trucks you could build a few special ones out of all you have and keep one of each machine and go scrap the others to help pay for more to be done on the Wizards Fortress. Stay safe my friend x
Everybody has a plan, grin..... Alan just loves his stuff and is definitely a Wizard in making it work. Also a major athlete, and adventurer. The Indiana Jones of Utah....... Fortress ... tunnels...... amazing.
I drove a Bravo 1951 Deuce with a 5th wheel, towed my machine shop all thru Iraqi Freedom. That's neither here nor there, I think you should try your favorite one with a RC setup, test out that hill behind you.
Wait a sec...... Hahahahah. The Wzrd is a madman, and I'm all about it. Would love to just be there and help whenever possible and soak up all the knowledge Alan has to share. Also, Mr. Wzrd, your sitting on a little goldmine there man and you know it. Need some cash, off a checile or two and back to getting after it! Keep this great stuff coming. Been a subscriber from day one.
I’m thinking there is no way of getting some oil into the cylinders to help. I guess the injectors are to difficult to pull out. If they had them oil cups like they have on machinery with the petcock. I don’t know why it’s so much fun trying to get an old vehicle running for the first time. I love your collection of military vehicles. Maybe some tanks and a few A10 planes would be nice also. 🇺🇸🍻💨
Was never into the M35 trucks. I worked on the M923 on up series 5 ton trucks as a civilian rebuild tech. There are kits out there to put power steering on the M35 family trucks from the military and some civilian companies. Sadly they replaced most of the 900 series trucks with the 7 ton like Sparks has.for towing his boat.
hope that your seperating them running and non running to make your life easier in the future lol. such a huge collection of 2.5 and 5 tons and square bodys. id get the running ones into one side of the lot and part the others for stuff you need and sell the rest tho selling a collection will be hard it make your life a little easier and get some funds to fix others hope to see more of them running in the future, that jeep truck at the ending tho would love to see that get some love unless u got a better one too but that'd be a nice one to see road worthy again all of them around here are rusted up and so bad they aint even worth the time to try to fix them
I think you might have wanted to disconect the battery terminal on tanker truck. 24-volt systems can be pretty dangerous. I burnt a 1/2 - 9/16 wrench into one time when it slipped out of my fingers and landed on the battery termanals of a M151A1 Jeep. The generator on that truck might be shorted out inside and that was why it was smoking. Although it definately seem to have a belt squeal. Do you have any M52A2 5-Ton Tractors, they have power steering. Then your arms won't feel like spaghetti.
haha your otherwise convenient wishbone parking worked against you for moving vehicles out so if you are levelling that ground with 88 inches difference, will you only be shifting 44 inches to the other end hehe you have an interesting place there, interesting collection of toys, but at times you need to take stock, what is worthless and what is a keeper, sure you have a mass of scrap that needs weighing in - certainly got some great toys there to play with, keeps you and Wes busy i'm sure, you could do with a job lot of batteries?
What is the point or purpose of all these old trucks, cars, and equipment, along with building the fort on the mountain top? Seems like 10 years from now it will all be worth just scrap metal, except the fort, which is not livable year round, and your health may not be enough to continue, so just wondering what the goal or dream is here with this property? Glow plugs? In a multifuel? Sure..?
@eliasvsbarnes ; like I said, I was the logistics clerk, not a mechanic. This was about 27 years ago, too. Now that I think of it, I think it was the humvee's with the glow plug problem? I'm not sure, I just know that we were constantly ordering glow plugs.
Maybe I missed it but why did you stop working on the castle?
Ah, Midnight requisition…
Once, “appropriated”, a storage building / shed, our Commander had requested, but, was denied, as Battalion, had tagged it for demolition.
UH-60, aircraft recovery team, under NVG’s, and a few gallons of paint. Next a.m., it was sitting in our Company area.
Good times…
Diesel Dave and you are 2 of the most talented hoarders on TH-cam!!
Astute comment.
Diesel Dave? I think you mean Heavy D! Dave sparks is the one with the lots of hoarded vehicles.
One of those trucks with a tank could be a handy vehicle to have around cero Gordo to haul water and maybe set up as a brush fire truck
Cerro Gordo already has a 5 ton thanks to Alan's boss Dave Sparks. But another like E48 with a permanent water tank might be cool. But I expect Alan will have similar need for a water tanker. man seeing new videos from diesel bros and now MtnFortressLabs reminds me of the joy i got watching Saturday morning cartoons growing up......
LOL
These are better than saturday morning cartoons, definatley big boys toys
Like hanging out with the cool kids.
When you have a passion for collecting, it's tough to let go. But after letting go, the relief can be very comforting.
Collecting ... a nice euphemism, ha ha. He has spent a lifetime "collecting." He will die happy with ALL OF IT, and MORE..... amazing how things were made back then... irreplaceable.
Knowing Allen, he'll never part with anything on this place.
Please Alan, make a video of you personnal History!
Your job, life, where and when did you buy ALL those vehicules
Thanks
Good video again
Sometimes, things left to mystery are better for suspense, or even just best left to curiosity.

It's a good thing that it doesn't take much to make Allen happy.
Alan
So cool to see the old truck fire up and move after all these years.
Alan you’re awesome. You remind me of my dad I always said he would buy a 1000 things for a dollar instead of buying one good thing for $1000 lol 😂 . Love your videos you’re always working hard.
Amazing to see those old engines run again.
Everyone has the same question "WHAT'S THE PLAN FOR TRUCKS ALAN "?🤣🤣🤣
For the zombie apocalypse

It's so great to see you and Les back in action. I've been waiting for the weather to get nice again so I can watch and learn. 😊
Ok I feel better about myself. I thought I was a crazy women waiting to watch Al back at the fortress having a good time playing around with big boy toys. Other women must like it too🤣😂
They look so unfashionable, but they keep looking outstanding
Alan, you are a very intelligent, motivated, and interesting man! It really would be neat to hear a little bit about your history and how and when you purchase the mountain and such. Thank you for the videos!!

I have waiting so long and here you are with a new vid, spend some time see old Sparks-videos meanwhile waiting to....

So glad to see a real mountain mechanic doing good sharing knowledge thank you
Dude, you need a big hangar digged in the base of your mountain for all this beasts !
Another life work !
the E-48 (Engin number 48) was the truck designator. It was a fire suppression vehicle.
Looks like you need to get the 2.5 ton with the wrecker bed going to move all th others. Just sayin! Love watching the progress of the fortress.
I've honestly never gotten so much enjoyment out of watching some rando on youtube.
Great work, Alan!
Ya know how little boys would line up their Tonka trucks on the shelf and pull them down every once in a while. That’s Alan with all these army trucks. Maybe I can’t understand it but that’s just me. They’re cool that’s for sure. But I wonder what the long term plan is.
You are awsome Alan ! When I grow up I wanna be just like you.. I would love to come help you play with all those toys. Those trucks are a gem.
Who else is amazed these old diesel motors just start after many years with not much fixing?
Surprised that you never use these trucks for hauling up the moutain. Perfect water tanker right there 😊
Love seeing all your vehicles. I always wanted a deuce and a half. They look and sound awesome. Can't wait for more videos
We had some GREAT weather... for a day or two. And then back to snow!! LOL But only the locals will know that.
Damn, I would love to have an old M35A2 Deuce and convert it to a welding rig or fab up a dump body.
Hi Alan. It might make an interesting video if you went into some details about how you came to acquire such a large collection of rare and unusual vehicles. Hearing about all the deuce and a half's, old Dodges and square bodies must be a pretty cool story.

Nice work! You could make a ton of will it start videos with your depot fleet. 😄
A company called earthromer i believe builds a big truck for glamping that looks like the frame of these .
Keep putting in the work, the fortress is coming along
Alan, sell some of that rusty iron brother, then you have $$ to put in to your fortress, dude !
Allen, did I hear you say 88"?! Leveling that much dirt and area would take forever!
Not to mention all the hours it'll take just to move all that stuff out of there.
Should build a off road wrecker with all those military trucks and compete against matt off road recovery in their competition
Way too late for this year 😉
Hmmm, maybe focus on his stuff first, once he has a system down, then branch out and see what else he can do. Baby steps, brother Alan has many, many irons in the fire and he has priorities (mountain fortress) and nobody here is getting younger.
Alan, you're doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work.
You need to set up one of your trucks for service truck, and buy your fluids in 55 gal. Drums. Might save some money.
Wow over 100K your at 133k now looking great and moving up Thumbs up 👍
Hey Alan at 25:00 you have a hard time getting to that Brake Line Breather Fitting. How bout modifying a brake line wrench. Cut of about a 1- 1 1/2 inch off the end. Great getting these old units going. Oh don’t mix silicone brake fluid with dot3. You can, but not recommended.
You my friend have "the patience of Job"!
I’d like to visit and hang out for a month but I’m sure thousands of others would too .
wow, Allen you got a lot going on as always be safe god bless
All those 5T Trucks are really cool Wizard
I’ve always wanted an old 5 ton or deuce and a half bobbed but can’t afford to do it. You got them just sitting around.
I would love to own one of them suburbans!
Bet you could part out most of this stuff.
Looks like fun running those military trucks. Thank you for sharing with us 🙏 God Bless
Things tend to roll? Not much has rolled in the depot for a long time. I will admit I am jealous of your collection.
Doing a great job Allan.
Was not a trucker in the Army, but sure have my share of miles in a Duce 1/2...
Definitely a wizard 😂 love the vids can’t wait to see the fortress 👍
I’m thinking there is no way of getting some oil into the cylinders to help. I guess the injectors are to difficult to pull out. If they had them oil cups like they have on machinery with the petcock. I don’t know why it’s so much fun trying to get an old vehicle running for the first time. I love your collection of military vehicles. Maybe some tanks and a few A10 planes would be nice also. 🇺🇸🍻💨
Great video ! I love the content you put up here. I’m excited to see what’s next!
love it. im so excited to see all this progress. i'd love to come out and help
Sad to see sooo many of these trucks just sitting and not put in some kind of use.
Keep in mind, there's more time than life..
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
You're awesome Alan!😊
Allen I love what you are doing. Wish I was there and could help.
Keep up the work
Hope to see you again soon with an update video.
Great video, keep up the good work.

I think the batteries are on the driver side because it kinda looks like it was a fuel truck
Mr Allen, all those vehicles are a time sink. They are drawing your valuable attention from the fortress. Scrap em and take the mula for the fortress.
I seen a General Electric Phoenix Two Way Radio under the dash in E48. i have many of these radio's .
hope that your seperating them running and non running to make your life easier in the future lol. such a huge collection of 2.5 and 5 tons and square bodys. id get the running ones into one side of the lot and part the others for stuff you need and sell the rest tho selling a collection will be hard it make your life a little easier and get some funds to fix others hope to see more of them running in the future, that jeep truck at the ending tho would love to see that get some love unless u got a better one too but that'd be a nice one to see road worthy again all of them around here are rusted up and so bad they aint even worth the time to try to fix them
Make sure you get a GREAT BEFORE shot of the area you are working on.
lets get the fortress upgrades
going!! 😁
I like your channel and love those old duece 1/2s.
That white truck would be perfect to take water up to the mountain.
I love all those dodge pickups 🙂
You need a battery sponsor
You have a lot of trucks... Looks like a couple of large sheds to park them under.
QQQ- Alan- A tree fell across my M925. If you are going to scrap one of the 900 series out I may need a drivers front fender.
Well done Alan always enjoy your videos
Love you dodges rebuild One please
haha your otherwise convenient wishbone parking worked against you for moving vehicles out
so if you are levelling that ground with 88 inches difference, will you only be shifting 44 inches to the other end hehe
you have an interesting place there, interesting collection of toys, but at times you need to take stock, what is worthless and what is a keeper, sure you have a mass of scrap that needs weighing in - certainly got some great toys there to play with, keeps you and Wes busy i'm sure, you could do with a job lot of batteries?
Outstanding!
You could sell that to Brent at Ghost Town living. Good water truck
