Currently reading "I Never Thought of It That Way: How to Have Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times" by Monique Guzman, a liberal Journalist who's Mexican immigrant parents voted for the bad guy. It's all about making connections with people who dont think like us by creating safe places for curiosity and abstaining from judgement. I read it 4 years ago and it's just as important as ever. Love your science recommendations and gotta plig the social sciences as well! Thanks for your work!
I had a few of the Worst Case Scenario XYZ Handbooks series when I was younger, and they're SUPER entertaining indeed! But yeah, as a medical geek, I definitely recommend nobody take them super seriously 😂 They're pretty well-researched but the format doesn't lend itself to providing adequate context/nuance. Still love 'em though
I'm currently reading "The 2084 report: an oral history of the Great Warming" and would recommend it to anyone interested in climate change! It's well written, easy to understand, and very informative despite not sounding like a non-fiction book. However, it's not exactly the most hopeful, so be aware of that before reading it. (I also have a funny "how to apocalypse" book, 100% for the entertainment and zero % to actually learn from)
If you already have kindle books, note that you can download them to the hard drive of your computer. Same for articles and information on the internet.
If you’re into survivalist books but don’t want genuine content from them, I recommend “How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack” by Chuck Sambuchino. It’s hilarious but takes itself very seriously. Oh and gnome jokes.
Yey !! Did you cut your hair? I was thinking maybe that’s a skill to learn for times when it’s gonna be hard to find a hairdresser that cuts everyone’s hair? Like queer and/or black etc. ? (Maybe already the case but still something to add to the list of skills to learn?)
Thanks for the recs! Weird question, are you related to the mother birdie? On top of basically having the same small niche you look JUST like eachother. Anyways i followed!
Man, i didn't even realize that giving my autistic, queer, demon oc a book special interest would connect to even more politics! My game is very much focused on diversity and the struggle everyone diverse goes through, so adding loving books to my oc not just because its his special interest, but also to spite the people who literally want him dead was accidentally very smart! Could go into a lot of real life issues here! (He definitely has a banned book section in his huge personal library! Love the little guy!)
I doubt it, I think Paris was just referring broadly to the tendency of right wingers to ban books as one reason to be proactive about stashing them. Also, in most cases, "banned book" just means it's not allowed in school libraries across a school district or something. I think there are parts of the USA where books get banned from being sold in a given conservative county or whatever but I'm pretty sure that's rare and I'm also pretty sure they aren't banning ownership (because that would be hecka unconstitutional and against the libertarian end of those values)

That sounds right up my alley, thanks for sharing this!
I would recommend to everyone to read words on fire it's about book smuggling and keeping their culture together it's one of my favorites
I’m REALLY hoping we don’t get to the point that book was at
This is my official request to share your new knowledge about surviving a swarm of pigeons
I second the motion

That’s an AWESOME idea and yes I did 🥰
What section(s) of the bookstore should I be looking in for valuable materials like these?
Science! These were all under ecology and climate change mostly
@@Paris.GlassMenagerie self help and LGBT book sections are also great go-tos
