Didn't actually have a problem with Genesys, the only problem i had was that they didn't bother to show a scene where John tried to fight the nanomachines programming etc. For instance when they had him trapped against the X-ray machines magnetic field they should have had him tell Kyle and Sarah to flee and that he loves them etc... But for all intets and purposes, that "terminator" was actually not John. John was killed by Skynet when it injected him with those nanomachines. John died and that new Terminator just had access to his memories and could mimic his personality.
@@bmadidc9123 I didn't find T2 to be a masterpiece. In fact the "No fate but what you make" idea was just a silly way to try and make a "happy ending" for a story that didn't need a happy ending. Robots from the future came back in time and killed people, shouldn't that future exist? (without trying to get into all the different "timeline" version of time travel)
Terminator salvation should have been the third part of the series....I loved it and it's so underrated in my opinion people who say this movie was bad need to rethink again.
When Salvation came out, fans were angry almost as now with Dark Fate. I liked it because it freed the Terminator franchise from the tired "evil future robot comes to kill me" plot that were already done 3 times. But fans wanted the old "template"...........until they actually got it......... then called it "unoriginal repeat plot". Yep, I'm 45 and I lived through the 1st film till now and remembered reactions from each films. Though I have my faves, I enjoy and appreciate each filmakers trying to do in each T films.
They leave it up to the fans to fill in their own plot holes. Like for example the terminator is constantly using power to support it's own weight on the chair to act more human and to make everyone feel more comfortable when it does this. But eh it could have been written where he just doesn't need to sit because he's a fricking terminator.
I really can’t believe that they took one of the best strong female characters in sci fi and actually had her reduce *herself* as just some “womb”. Like talk about tone deaf Hollywood schlock. You can’t just throw out John Connor and replace her with some poor half-done imitation of Sarah and John.
Who was reduced to a "womb"?... Sarah is a badass and she wasn't reduced in any way into anything that one chick isn't anything at all just some minor factory worker earning the right to pick up pennies from the sidewalks
@@SPFLDAngler I think what he meant is the film tried to act as though the previous films regarded Sarah as "just a womb" to which the new film is oh so courageously righting this wrong, which is obviously bullshit and part of an anti-maternal, anti-feminine agenda in Hollywood masquerade under "social justice", which is typical of sjw's in general, they invent a "dragon" and then pat themselves on back for "slaying" it in order to have the appearance of being courageous, virtuous people i.e. "virtue signalling".
To me that was more Sarah's view of the world after she lost John. She had no more hope after that. The only thing that kept her going were the coordinates for the other terminators. She was cynical when she thought that Dani was the new Sarah, and that was normal because of all she's been through.
Remember when the t800 was the ultimate killing machine badass and not a house husband with draperies? Pepperidge farm remembers. Also the rev 9 is preety cool tbh
The Rev 9 fucking smiles. Wtf is the point of a Terminator that smiles when at the same time it kills everyone. There is zero advantage to that. It completely takes away the tension.
I still think the T-800 held up to it's well known aspects. In Terminator 2 it was established they can understand human emotions to a degree and somewhat replicate them but not as well. In this one, it's also shown how durable and unstoppable they are. It had a plane dropped on it and the only way the Rev 9 reliably beat it is when it separated. I assume this is possibly due to the Rev 9 endoskeleton being lighter in favor of staying agile enough to keep up with its liquid metal counterpart but failing when it requires brute strength in some, but not all, cases.
The alternate ending of T2 was the true ending. They should have really continued the story from salvation instead of treading on the same water. Salvation could have been a great trilogy with the final movie ending with john sending Kyle reese back in time
@@rubenscott3972 it's not a perfect movie by far but it was heading in the right direction and had a good way to begin with , first movie was how john connor became the leader, 2nd movie would be him training Kyle reese & trying to find the time machine, 3rd movie would be the resistance smashing skynets defenses and launching a final attack on skynets core, the final shot could be john sending Kyle back. Going full circle with the franchise
One day Hollywood will make another T:Salvation remake and say its set in an alternate timeline or something and John Connor will be an advanced A.I. because thats what they think the fanbase wants to see.
Honestly Salvation + Genisys could've been good focusing on the war. The first 20 mins of Genisys was great seeing the war then it went down hill. Love the end fight tho.
I heard somewhere bale wanted the original ending to the movie where the heart he got during the transplant ended up corrupting/taking him over making him evil. I forgot where I heard it tho.
I've listened to a lot of reviews and it seems like the stank of _Dark Fate_ has had a serendipitous side-effect. It has caused a lot of people to appreciate _Terminator: Salvation_ a lot more and have people even say that it was the best-sequel since _T2_ when next to no one would have been caught saying that before. I will give _TS_ credit for breaking convention and giving us something different, but to say that it was the "best" Terminator movie since _T2_ I don't know if I agree or disagree. That movie was all over the place plot-wise. Couldn't tell if it was about John Connor, Kyle Reese, or Sam Worthington's character. Ida know. I guess by default it wins. It's the only sequel in where the John Connor character remained intact and where he resembled what were were told hat he was in the original Terminator.
I think if they had taken a different route and said that the REV 9 had been by a fragment of Skynet that survived the resistance and become Legion that would’ve been better and would explain why John was killed
T3 wasn't terrible, it atleast felt like an actual terminator movie. And Salvation was just really different, that could be good or bad depending who you talk to, but even if it wasn't a good Terminator you can't deny it wasn't a pretty great action movie. Dark Fate was just a shit show all around.
slim slendy this movie made T3 look like a masterpiece. And yes you’re right this was just a action movie really with just the terminator name only to me. Salvation was was different, but a good different it was somewhat future war.
it will NEVER end till we get a proper FUTURE WAR with john connor Leading the human resistance saga but one that truly does justice to both original master piece and the sequel fuck it SALVATION was under rated
Just like Star Wars, the Terminator franchise has a very special power: every new instalment makes the previous ones look like a masterpieces in comparacion.
I hate Salvation because of its atmosphere. After a global nuclear war the world would be dark for thirty years because of the fallout. This is what made the future scenes in T1 and T2 so atmospheric, bleak, dirty and dark... literally dark. Yet in Salvation we have broad daylight and rather pristine and spritely looking freedom fighters. All sense of desperation and visual style was eradicated from the movie.
@@nicholasgordon4999 Hey I can appreciate that, I want the future war more than anybody, That movie was and is the closest thing we have. Feels more like Fallout 4 to me in regards to the color pallet and people.
@@nicholasgordon4999 No, the "nuclear winter" and obscured sun has no scientific basis, even if you detonated all the warheads at once it wouldn't be nearly enough to achieve that. Not even close. There's been some papers written on that.
I thought it was funny how a completely different version of AI still ends up creating identical looking terminators and operates exactly like Skynet. I wish people would give me tons of money to make movies, I'd at least come up with new stuff instead of re-doing old movies
It wouldn’t be a bad idea as it looks like it can mimic emotions pretty well and the sadistic personality would bounce well off of a character that would try to curve its impulsive and aggressive nature
This is the first time I’ve ever heard you disappointed with something and man that feeling sucks but at least you made this video to explain why it’s a bad film and how it spits in the face of the other films. good in you man
They literally killed Jesus, without fx. touching on the works of Nietzsche. -Killed god (JC) who served as meaning and value, leading to a loss of perspective. Maybe the ''New Skynet'' was the manifestation of 'the will to power', an interpretation of humanity's inevitable solution for the greater good. I just pulled that out of my ass, and it sounds like a better movie than this without even changing much.
That's not why it failed. Fans just want another Terminator with no changes.. they want to see the future which would be boring and wouldn't have a good plot since in the future nothing happens it's just trying to survive.. All fans want is the first movie again. But that's not how shit works. They will bash and say any Terminator movie sucks no matter what because no movie will ever be the first film again. This movie was a great fucking idea. Change EVERYTHING. kill off the "hero" and that kills the villain too somehow, showing that Skynet is reliant on John to survive somehow. Another villain then rises up to fill the void, proving that in this universe an AI uprising is inevitable no matter what. Then there is Sarah who is a relic of a deleted timeline but still believes that everything still works the way it did in her world. She runs into the new hero and her guardian like how her son had a protector from a liquid metal bad guy and because she still holds on to her trauma and her old world/time she immediately believes that the timeline is the same but the people have changed. Thinking that the girl is going to give birth to the hero, never considering or even comprehending that she IS the hero. There's just so much going on and so many fun twists and exciting plot. I thought it was fantastic and I'm sure a million other people think the same thing. Dark Fate was literally the movie that "fans" have been wanting and the film that they've been hoping for and expecting ever since Terminator 2. You got the first movie redone entirely like you wanted, you got Arnold and Linda back yet again, you got all the parts of the first movie you enjoyed put back into this one. It's a remake but with entirely different character and slightly different but entirely the same exact plot as the first and second films.. why people still gotta complain is a baffling mystery keeping me awake at night lmao.... some people just have to whine and bitch, like it's carved deep into the side of their torso that they have to cry and complain about something, anything or else the world will end.
Oh, and if you are wondering why I wrote an essay's worth of text to debunk your comment, its because while a shorter, more concise overview of my opinion clearly isn’t enough for most people, so I often have to spell everything out point by point. As well, if you made your comment shorter instead of that entire paragraph stating how accepting and superior you are to others for loving this film, we wouldn’t be here. Maybe someone should send back a Terminator to stop you or me from writing these comments. But what’s done is done. In any case, if you truly believe that people like me and most others in this comment section are actively hoping for their favorite franchises to fail and to hate them, you are sorely mistaken, and need a new perspective. I didn’t want a new Terminator, I wanted a good movie be it Terminator or otherwise. I don’t want to see movies fail, I have a genuine love for film and tv and video games, but Hollywood’s laziness and ineptitude has made me expect this kind of movie, and I do not want it anymore, not just for the sake of the fans, but for the original creators and artistic integrity. That’s all I have to say on the matter. This comment is Terminated.
Honestly couldn’t care less if they killed him... it just made no sense and served no purpose. It doesn’t really make sense that killing him removes Skynet and creates Legion... It would have been much more interesting to me for him to be killed and see an alternate future with either roles reversed (humans go back to assassinate skynet’s creators while Skynet tries to protect it) or see another version where humanity found another leader (no reason why it wouldn’t/couldn’t replace Connor) and do another take on the original films. Instead, Connor dies, which somecraxyhow stops Skynet and we get a wet paper bag to pretend to gaf about while plot holes the size of Texas are left unanswered. If his death served a purpose, I’m all for killing him off... but it didn’t...
@@Randomhandle166 It literally isn't, John (T-3000) could literally eat the Rev-9 alive. They only say that with every new entry to establish a false sense of fear with the audience.
but he was humilliated. They want to destroy all manly heroes, just the like they did it with Thor in avengers endgame. I hate these new "women heroe type" movies. If they want to create woman icons then do it, but don't kill our HEROES!!!!
And why doesn't Sarah kill him? She obviously knew where he was "living". They show her taking everyone to his house in the trailer. The Sarah Conner I know would have blown that metal motherfucker to hell for killing John. Are we suppose to just accept that Sarah forgave him?
@@crackedgaming5696 The whole what is cannon and what is not might need to be explained to me as I see a point in time being different than what's cannon or not. In T3 the T-X has a list of targets. One would assume that this would be the norm. I would also assume that there are backup "Ensure SkyNet is created" or similar orders.
Why would they? There's no Skynet because that future is changed in terminator 2 (by destroying all chips from terminators). It is logical that t-1000 isn't only terminator they sent to kill John but this t-800 is from the future that doesn't exist anymore. Since that future doesn't exist anymore John isn't necessary to the humanity. There is a new future (with Legion) in which Dani is the leader of ressistance (not John)!
@@bogdanbubanja9781 Yeah which is why calling the movie Legion makes sense because it relates to the new future with Dani and it sounds better than "Dark Fate" which kinda doesn't relate since the "fate" is pretty much the same as it always was.
Thank you for a finally honest review. Every review I have seen tries to claims that, “oh this movie is so original” and that “the characters have so much depth.” I appreciate an accurate description of how it affects the franchise and history of the series.
The bad of the bad are T3. Dam just like uh oke show us the judgement day are happen, that is. Genesys still have good story but yeah suck actor in my opinion (not all bad actor, just the acting of overall film just being usual) that because being action with none horor, at least not bad as T3 but yeah, the list you are so right.
@@nikik5567 for story line i like genesys plot than the rise of machine. I said that for my opinion self only, i don't like how jhon being in t3, before few days judgement day happen like jhon is really trash man, weak, and uhh stupid. Its stupid if you see how great jhon was in t2 as teenager. You should give better storyline, genesys have better at story even i soo dont like it how the story make jhon being terminator. But overall story was great, we see another moment that sarah being more powerful and baddass like sarah on t2 well we all know sarah on t2 was best of the best so its just similar, and finally we see the strategy build by pops and sarah for killing all terminator arrive. After t2 there no have horor sense so being action film so its good to see new sarah with more complete preparation. The good about the t3 just 1 in my opinion, Arnold and who being T-X was amazing, arnold was amazing everytime (well we see terminator off course overall everyone are arnold fans) but T-X act was compare able to T-1000 actor wich is that really good. Well after all thats my opinion, sems i just like T1, T2, and salvation only. Dont get me wrong Genesys are so bad but with my objective i see at least that better than T3. The bad of the bad still dark fate. Edit : my first comment when i did'n watch dark fate, now after i watch it yeah dark fate are bad of the bad, shame for terminator franchise
So here's my revised version I just cobbled together. Sorry this is really long. 1) John isnt in the film cause he's living a normal life. Since skynet is destroyed there logically is no reason for him to become humanity's savior. He's just chilling with old Arnold with his own family. 2) Arnold couldve been a terminator sent to kill John as a baby. But due to how Sarah kept low all those years the terminator couldnt find her. He gained sentiance and eventually decided his mission made no sense. So now he's just chilling with an older John and John's wife and kid simply think of as "Uncle Carl". Cause again old Arnold thinks killing John makes no sense anymore cause skynet is gone. 3) Grace and this new terminator, we'll call the Reaper (spitballling give me a break) come from a completely different time than one we recognize as the classic terminator one. They come from a future where due to cybernetic enhancements and nano tech a massive war ignites killing most of humanity in the process. Grace is a member of the military who protects the last of the non-augmented people on earth. The Reaper was created by a brand new AI created during the war, its mission is to "win" the war it was designed to beat meaning killing all humans remaining. 4) Sarah hasnt been hunting terminators but instead continues to live in paranoia and fear about the "dark fate" of humanity. This led John to finally cut ties with her and live his own life. She's able to find Dani and Grace due to her simply being on the freeway as the fight goes down. 5) Dani (who in this revision is a med student) is being hunted because in the future shes the one who invents the particular enhancement tech Grace and the other surviving soldiers use. She's even the one who directly enhanced Grace. The Reaper turns out is actually her son who was deconstruced by the metal exoskeleton's nano machines. Literally if she dies, everyone does. 6) The Reaper, unlike most terminators somehow (I assume through Dani's phone) actually taunts her as he's hunting. The purpose is to break her down mentally and leave her vulnerable to kill. The Reaper isnt her son, it simply wears her sons visage as a mask. Hope this works for some people. Sorry for the long post.
Eeehhh this story I will say is differently better the the original Dark Fate story . But there was just a few things I didn't like about it other wise I would pay to watch it.
It's mostly Tim Miller's wet fanfic. James Cameron wasn't really involved with it, since he's making Avatar 2 and 3. Plus, Cameron himself said that he ended the story at T2.
@@RetryOfHealGuy Doesn't Cameron started saying he was not involved and had problems with the director only now after bad reviews and poor opening sales?
The message/concept was interesting, but the execution was not good. Again, like Genisys, the script of Dark Fate killed its potential. Personally, I like Dark Fate more than Genisys tho. For me, T2 > T1 > Salvation > T3 > Dark Fate > Genisys.
Here how the Terminator story goes Skynet has sent a Terminator to kill John's mother Sarah John has sent Kyle to protect his mother When Kyle and Sarah were together they both fell in love and Kyle father John which reveal that Kyle who was sent by John was John's father Kyle died protecting Sarah but the Terminator survived and tried to kill Sarah but destroyed him Remains of the Terminator the chip and the arm was recovered by the people of Cyberdyne use it to get ideas to develop new technology and gave them the idea to develop Skynet Which means if Skynet and John hasn't sent the Terminator and Kyle into the past than both of them would never existed When Sarah prevented the existence of Skynet it worked but many years a rise of new evil AI Legion Is there a connection between Skynet and Legion? If Terminators were never sent to the past by Skynet would Legion still exist? Is the Terminators sent by Skynet has something to do with Legion the first Terminator sent in the past in the first movie had led to the creation of Skynet?
And Arnold. The real Terminator in the film was Linda Hamilton 😎😎 She did say "I'll be back" after all. The only reason John said it in Salvation was because Arnold wasn't in it and because he was the series' TRUE MAIN CHARACTER.
@@thetechlibrarian And when they announced it, they said his role would be small. When I saw the image of Sarah, Grace and Dani, I assumed John would play a bigger role in the sequels, like Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy. I NEVER expected him to be killed off so early and his only role in the film to be as a memory of a messiah that Sarah would pass onto Grace and Dani.
Saw a lot of critics like this film... saw a lot of my favorite youtubers dislike this film. Think I'll trust my youtubers and save my cash and time... For John.
I thought it was really good as well. This guy is being overly harsh on the movie. Yes john connor dies and that's a bummer but understandable because hes been the major plot line for over 30 years. It's time for a change. Sucks that so many people judged the movie prior to watching it. I'd love to see a continuation of this storyline.
@@epoen2012 so let me ask then, does it add anything new to the franchise or does it try to clean the slate and retread the past movies all over again? I'm not asking about the acting, the visuals, or the editing. I want to know about the story. Did it just redo terminator 1 & 2 and conflict with established lore while using a new (female) john connor?
@@MrDsleepyeyes it basically laid groundwork. Yeah a lot of it was rehash but the augmentation of the protector was new. The ability of the terminator was new. They didnt go much into the story of the new threat though. It felt better than the others and Arnold's role wasnt over the top and corny as possible like he was in prior installments. With pretty much no hope for a sequel this one doesnt stand well alone but going into it knowing there would be more its enjoyable.
How the terminators still go back in time when there is no skynet? -skynet has already sent the terminators before its death and still was program to kill john
But here's a giant plothole, I'll explain it: In previous movies, it was made explicitly clear that if Kyle Reese was not sent back to protect Sarah, then John would not exist, but Tim Miller said in the new future, Reese no longer existed because Judgement Day never happened and Reese's parents didn't meet afterwards. Therefore, John should've disappeared from existence, and so should've those remaining Terminators that were sent back, if Skynet was erased with Cyberdyne's destruction. I see Terminator 3 and Salvation as the real continuations of T2. Jonathan Mostow and McG tried to stay faithful to the first two films, and so did Alan Taylor with his reboot Genisys. For me, this movie is non-canon. Too many plotholes and contradictions.
If I had to rewrite DF, I’d honestly only change the way the T-800 is introduced. Maybe after killing John, it just wanders, a robot with no purpose, instead of being a drapery guy. It sends the messages to Sarah because it needs a purpose. And it’s purpose is to give Sarah’s life purpose. Then it would make sense for it to agree to help Dani and Grace because he is given a new mission; A new purpose.
I would also suggest making the rev-9 less pathetic in combat. Throughout the film he is constantly being tossed around more than he shouldve been, he is the most advanced, he should also be more tactical and near-unpredictable
If the t-800 killed John Conner in the beginning of the movie then everyone had the legal right to leave because the movie was over everyone knows if John dies then humanity lost can’t just throw away what was all ready established by the first 2 movies
Potential Spoiler! Also, how did Carl learn to be more Human if no one knew he was a Terminator? Someone had to physically remove his CPU & flip the switch from Read-only to Read-and-write before he could even start thinking for himself but he doesn't even mention it or anyone that might have done it for him. Does it flip itself when the mission's accomplished? Did Skynet just think "fuck it" & send a potential threat to its existence back in time anyway? And Sarah knows that Skynet doesn't send out infiltrators capable of independent thought alone because Uncle Bob told her that. Why didn't she ask? She already wants to kill him so why not call bullshit!?
He learns and simulates, do that during years and your simulation will be so convincing as in the movie, he's alive, sorta, he's just simulating, but isn't there where life starts? He's and AI that's how they work anyway
What most people seem to not realize is that once you introduce time travel, you should never expect things to make sense. Simple. So really take that into effect when you criticize any movie really what involves time travel
and that function can only be reset manually and a terminator himself cannot perform such action as he would simply be powered off if he tried to remove the chip himself
Terminator: Dark Fate Grumbly Sarah Conner Grace the protector, give the girl a protein shake, she’ll be okay Dani, inspires Old T-800 that finnaly did the job, watches over a family as a hobby REV-9, my skeleton does yoga, and I stabby more ways than a flail
To be honest i dont think its possible to make a better ending than T2. So many fans loved the film it had everything, so everyone who saw these movies growing up will always love them, not just because they where great but because they where great and we saw them in our younger days when things like this made a huge impression and emotional. For some of us anyway. It doesent matter how hard they try, the first two movies will never be beaten.
heads were so swelled they lost their minds, I can imagine the writers meeting: 'ok what've we got' ' we kill off Connor!' 'LOVE IT MAN!' 'how do we do it?' @@Tekkaman1994 the Terminator realizes there's no end to the war of humanity and skynet so using the hourglass he creates a future where humans and skynet work together then he destroys himself
Honestly John Conner dying was probably a good thing he successfully stopped judgement day and destroyed cyberdyne he has no more purpose because he changed and ultimately saved the future so his mission is done and as far as Carl existing since he was already going through time that allows him to exsist since he’s not affected by the future and since Carl finished his mission he had no purpose therefore allowing him to evolve something no terminator has done dark fate is a story about the new skynet and the new John Conner with a paradox that says there will always be a judgement day a new John Conner and a new skynet
They killed John so they could replace his character with a strong female that would go onto the planned trilogy to save humanity. But. The people writing/making it had no interest in writing a good character and just wanted to push SJW agendas separate from the film. This is why the film has failed. Hope this trend in Hollywood changes soon.
I mean what would they have done with his character t2 closed his ark too well he destroyed cyberdyne stoped judgement day,no skynet, and saved the future nothing more for him to do no point in continuing his ark or even writing a story for him, what would you have done with his character
Why is John dying in the first place? when any nobody could take his place you know the story has gone to shit. Like he said this movie shits all over t1-t2
Honestly, The Sarah Conner Chronicles AND Salvation did it (in my opinion) right in a certain direction BY KEEPING to the cannon with neat nods and easter eggs together. Cause the thing I love bout Salvation is the fact IT DIDNT CHANGE what occured or pandered with backstory, where it gave us AN AWESOME STORY in the Terminator universe with a quick cameo of Arnold. Which my opinion, looked great, sure one or two scenes were corny/not worth the moments and some things in the movie were never explained. The fact is they skipped over a bit to stay on story and I loved it all the more.
Actually the T2 quote 'I know now why you cry' confirms that terminators learn human emotion and empathy but can't feel it themselves. It's a bit like a sociopath in the real world can at least learn the concept of empathy even if they don't feel it, so I thought Carl made sense.
@@GregMeije yeah but at the same time psychopaths generally do not have a sense of empathy so it's somewhat accurate but the difference with sociopaths is that it is a choice.
It was correct when the terminator had its mission. Once the mission was complete is when “Carl” started free thought. We know from T2 that they can learn and start to have understanding etc. Not sure why you’re so hung up on it lol
My friend I'm completely agree with you 100%, dark fate is the lost cost and ruined from T1 and T2 masterpiece. It seems to me that James Cameron lost his own way especially linda hamilton and arnold Schwarzenegger as well, this movie shouldn't existed In the first place. Personally I think grace is the only character that is only good but after so many scenes of this movie they kinda almost ruin her character though, but never the less, I'm definitely blamed Hollywood and SJW.
They did actually explain in the movie how Arnold is able to detect where a new terminator will appear. But yes I completely agree they left a massive plot hole with how Sarah knew they were gonna be on that freeway, I instantly noticed when Arnold said that.
@@carlito19934 Read my comment again. Arnold knows where a new terminator will appear, but they have no clue where its gonna go after that. Sarah had no way of knowing they were gonna be on that freeway.
Man, when I saw IGN gave it a good review, I was really hopeful because it’s been years since a good Terminator film… it’s really sad that this great franchise is now burdened with yet another flop.
This is the first time I've heard FilmComicsExplained sound so genuinely upset/annoyed with a film. Just more proof how bad this film is and how lucky I am to not go see it.
Just watched last night... I'm heartbroken 💔 I absolutely love this franchise and had such high hopes for this film. Especially after the initial trailer! It seemed like it was going to just nail the story and tie up the entirety of the movie so perfectly. But it doesn't. Not in the least. Your review exactly sums it up! Soooo much potential and somehow they still missed the mark on every turn. I really wanted to like this film. Now I'm just stuck with the trailer and memory of the excitement for what I thought was to be.
John: "It doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear, and It absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead." Nyet: "And after you're dead, it will raise a family, give itself an unassuming name and specialize in drapes." Me: Then it will drop its facade when the nuking and machine uprising begins, traumatizing its wife and child upon revealing itself to be a machine in front of them.
I don't plan on ever watching dark fate. I appreciate you making this video because it validates my concerns and made it so I didn't have to watch it to find out for myself. T1, T2, Salvation were the best and the most cohesive.
The first dinosaur we saw in the first Jurassic Park movie (the brachiosaur) was killed off during the volcano eruption in the latest Jurassic movie. The new Star Wars trilogy butchered Luke Skywalker's character and acted like Anakin/Vader should have just stayed home with his mom (and apparently they can kamikaze with hyperdrive now), and now John Connor is killed off in the first 5 minutes to make a sequel that doesn't make sense. I get the sense that Hollywood is on a quest to kill beloved franchises from our childhoods.
What happened to the terminator self destructing or waiting out judgement day? Why does the terminator feel like a actually person slave to a mission and once the mission is complete they can continue on with life? Also "carl" shot john in broad daylight, how is it that "Carl" isn't wanted by the FBI for brutality murdering a kid? So many questions unanswered
I was interested to see what someone invested in terminator lore such as you would have to say about the film. I appreciate your points and think they accurately portray why everyone feels so violated by this film. Thx FilmComicsExplained
"It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear and it absolutely will not stop ever until you are dead. Oh and after your dead it may feel sorry about killing you and start a family, yeah its weird" *sigh* 😑
I WAS dissapointed. Main reasons - in my opinion, Daniella was an awful future leader of the human resistance, and the Arnold's T - 800 character was humanized way too much.
I think a fun terminator sequel would have been if they flipped the script, and Skynet sent the guardian back to keep an important Skynet developer safe or something...because the resistance sent back a terminator first this time...
Kyle Reese is not original John Connors dad from T1.(that scarface) That guy erased himselfe from the timeline by sending back Kyle. Young John from T2 is not the same person as Future John (scarface) from T1. I like that theory. 🤔
I actually liked that the T-800 actually adapted to a "normal human life" cause it has been shown that the t-800's are independent AI's wich were capable to learn and act independently, i think the movie has some interesting ideas but just as you said they were horribly mashed together To me the highlights of this movie were Gabriel's Rev 9 and Karl
However I see a problem. Skynet would switch there t 800s in read only case of them going rouge on solo minutes the extended cut of terminator 2, unless they deactivated when there objective were finished which could be possible.
@@foxgaming1084 this is actually touched some more somewhere (don't remember where tho), Skynet came up with the read only as a way to limit what the independent AI's could grow to and it somewhat worked 'cause the t800, t900 and t1000 were not meant for long term operation but eventually the lesser AI would break out of their limitations and became sort of self aware or just straight up disobeyed orders among other things, which made them unpredictable or dangerous to skynet's goals and so were quickly put into obsolescence by other models. This is why I though the Rev9 was interesting 'cause it's not a lesser AI but a part of Legion itself. Again this movie had some great ideas, shame
A good analysis and dissertation of this “Sh!t Show” but its like trying to explain the molecular structure of dog vomit....the process might be important to veterinarians , but leaves the dog owner left with a chunky mess on their rug! Good review of a terrible, chunky and stinky mess!
They should have place Miles Dison son as one who found the terminator after killing John, deactivated, since he finished the mission. Then Diasons son reprogrammed it but not before decoating all info needed. This is how Sarah gets the messages and that's how Arnold ends up helping them again. The idea could be furthered explored but would have been better than giving the terminator a family.
@Andrew you have no watched the ficking film, at no damn point was any batwoman nonsense said, the movie had crazy action and was just a nonstop dbz movie, why are u so pissed that the lead role is a woman
Terminator Salvation isn't the greatest Terminator but it's the best Terminator since Terminator 2 the most original and placed in the timeline where it should be moving forward instead of continuously going backwards
If Arnold is in then I'll watch it and he's always great even if the movie sucks. At that age there's high propability he's not going to be around much longer so I'll enjoy every moment
I went in with low expectations and wanted a movie I can turn off my head. So I enjoyed it the movie until all the points you point out clicked in my head. Then it sort of like a glass shattering in my head which makes me go "Oh yeah"
Damn, what a great review and lots of great points. I'll also add the there are too many of the same obvious elements stolen from the earlier film. How often are we going to see some terminator creating havok in a heavy-duty vehicle while in hot pursuit of the target, followed by a narrow escape? Heroes then regroup and rearm in preparation for the final showdown. Coupled with all the points made in this review, this doesn't help matters. T2 remains my favorite by a long shot.
Linda Hamilton reprising role was the only thing that actually kept me remotely interested. The one thing that completely drove me nuts in this movie is that the producers and writers fell to keep their obligation into forcing the gender social issue in today's world. It just felt like the soldier sent back in time felt entitled to protecting the new leader of the resistance strictly on the fact because she was a woman. And I feel the 2 strong female characters of this movie were completely conflicting in the story archive. That being said Linda's role as Sarah Connor will always be badass and still hold its on.
The post-2000 Terminator films reflect the pessimism and fatalism our country has slipped into since Littleton, Columbine, 9/11, and all the mass shootings that have happened over the past 25 or so years.
Terminator Genisys “let’s make John Connor a terminator.”
Terminator Dark Fate “let’s kill John Connor.”
T2 was a masterpiece and those idiots ruined it, just felt felt like I needed to say that
Terminator Light Fate “Let’s ressurect John Connor”
Didn't actually have a problem with Genesys, the only problem i had was that they didn't bother to show a scene where John tried to fight the nanomachines programming etc. For instance when they had him trapped against the X-ray machines magnetic field they should have had him tell Kyle and Sarah to flee and that he loves them etc...
But for all intets and purposes, that "terminator" was actually not John. John was killed by Skynet when it injected him with those nanomachines. John died and that new Terminator just had access to his memories and could mimic his personality.
Terminator: Bio. Clone John Connor.
Terminator: Salvation is criminally underrated and the only movie brave enough to try something different. T2 Forever!

You know what I don't understand is how a terminator can sit on lawn furniture without it breaking beneath the terminator's immense weight
lol
Kablou constantly do wall squats
I think you just put in more thought than the actual writers
They leave it up to the fans to fill in their own plot holes. Like for example the terminator is constantly using power to support it's own weight on the chair to act more human and to make everyone feel more comfortable when it does this. But eh it could have been written where he just doesn't need to sit because he's a fricking terminator.
I just wondered why the dog loves the terminator. (probably terminates humans not dogs. Skynet has a Peta program. Kills humans not puppies)
I want a 2 hours of the future war, imagine 2 hours of the opening scene from judgement day and the bunker and battle scenes from the first movie
I mean that’s kinda what Salvation is. It’s not a well made movie but it’s still a future war and everything
That would be so boring... 2 hours of humans being murdered by machines, wow, so entertaining...
Rhubartu the Saiyan well obviously they would put a story in they wouldn’t have pure battle scenes smh
You may want to play Terminator: Resistance, since that game is everything you just said you wanted.

It's before the war
When John Connor was a noob
I really can’t believe that they took one of the best strong female characters in sci fi and actually had her reduce *herself* as just some “womb”. Like talk about tone deaf Hollywood schlock. You can’t just throw out John Connor and replace her with some poor half-done imitation of Sarah and John.
Who was reduced to a "womb"?... Sarah is a badass and she wasn't reduced in any way into anything that one chick isn't anything at all just some minor factory worker earning the right to pick up pennies from the sidewalks
they did the same with starwars :p and ghost busters
@@SPFLDAngler
I think what he meant is the film tried to act as though the previous films regarded Sarah as "just a womb" to which the new film is oh so courageously righting this wrong, which is obviously bullshit and part of an anti-maternal, anti-feminine agenda in Hollywood masquerade under "social justice", which is typical of sjw's in general, they invent a "dragon" and then pat themselves on back for "slaying" it in order to have the appearance of being courageous, virtuous people i.e. "virtue signalling".
Testicles
To me that was more Sarah's view of the world after she lost John. She had no more hope after that. The only thing that kept her going were the coordinates for the other terminators. She was cynical when she thought that Dani was the new Sarah, and that was normal because of all she's been through.
Remember when the t800 was the ultimate killing machine badass and not a house husband with draperies? Pepperidge farm remembers.
Also the rev 9 is preety cool tbh
I agree, the liquid metal thing has always been cool to me. The dark onyx color was a nice choice.
But Rev 9 wasn’t even intimidating enough compared to T-800 and t-1000
LOL HAHAHA
Salvation could have been a great trilogy with the final movie ending with john sending Kyle reese back in time
I liked salvation but they could have fixed a little
@@rubenscott3972 it's not a perfect movie by far but it was heading in the right direction and had a good way to begin with , first movie was how john connor became the leader, 2nd movie would be him training Kyle reese & trying to find the time machine, 3rd movie would be the resistance smashing skynets defenses and launching a final attack on skynets core, the final shot could be john sending Kyle back.

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
I think the series Sarah Connor Chronicles would have taken it in a better direction before it was retconned by 3.

Exactly @Iftii Alam Sarah Connor had plenty of chances to double tap the terminator but was distracted by minor things.
Gamelord 56 because movies are focused more on pandering to sjws that won’t watch the movies rather than making a good movie.

John has sent Kyle to protect his mother
When Kyle and Sarah were together they both fell in love and Kyle father John which reveal that Kyle who was sent by John was John's father
Kyle died protecting Sarah but the Terminator survived and tried to kill Sarah but destroyed him
Remains of the Terminator the chip and the arm was recovered by the people of Cyberdyne use it to get ideas to develop new technology and gave them the idea to develop Skynet
Which means if Skynet and John hasn't sent the Terminator and Kyle into the past than both of them would never existed
When Sarah prevented the existence of Skynet it worked but many years a rise of new evil AI Legion
Is there a connection between Skynet and Legion?
If Terminators were never sent to the past by Skynet would Legion still exist?
Is the Terminators sent by Skynet has something to do with Legion the first Terminator sent in the past in the first movie had led to the creation of Skynet?

I NEVER expected him to be killed off so early and his only role in the film to be as a memory of a messiah that Sarah would pass onto Grace and Dani.
Saw a lot of critics like this film... saw a lot of my favorite youtubers dislike this film. Think I'll trust my youtubers and save my cash and time...
For John.
MrDsleepyeyes It’s good bro. I know critics can be bias or bought but the film is good in my opinion
It's actually better than what most say. The protagonist sucks tho
Terminator 3 & Salvation did a better job of connecting all the films together than both Genisys and Dark Fate did.

Salvation is the best movie sequel after T2, damn shame they never gave us that trilogy.
I like from the beginning
How the terminators still go back in time when there is no skynet?
-skynet has already sent the terminators before its death and still was program to kill john
Because Skynet made a bitch move that killed John
Skynet always gets created. It's inevitable that man created AI
*because the script said so.
But here's a giant plothole, I'll explain it:
In previous movies, it was made explicitly clear that if Kyle Reese was not sent back to protect Sarah, then John would not exist, but Tim Miller said in the new future, Reese no longer existed because Judgement Day never happened and Reese's parents didn't meet afterwards.
What’s sky net ??
It could stand to reason that Carl could have been granted "freedom" as a side effect of him completing his programming i suppose.
@@joaaoandrade But someone has to flip his switch before he starts doing that

To be honest i dont think its possible to make a better ending than T2. So many fans loved the film it had everything, so everyone who saw these movies growing up will always love them, not just because they where great but because they where great and we saw them in our younger days when things like this made a huge impression and emotional. For some of us anyway. It doesent matter how hard they try, the first two movies will never be beaten.
And i think it says allot about how great the first two movies is when they are failing to make a sequal.
Thank you for such a well spoken, genuine, and accurate breakdown.
Can you imagine the ego of the guys that thought this shambles would be a smash hit. Ffs 😂😂
heads were so swelled they lost their minds, I can imagine the writers meeting:

' we kill off Connor!'
'LOVE IT MAN!'
'how do we do it?'
'well well go back to when he was still a kid and blow him away in front of mom'
'oh we're so COOKING NOW!!!!' THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT!!!

@@Tekkaman1994 the Terminator realizes there's no end to the war of humanity and skynet so using the hourglass he creates a future where humans and skynet work together then he destroys himself
Uummm....No. ppl watching John die on sum bs, is a legit complaint.
Why you cold war warriors always cry everything progerssive?
I mean what would they have done with his character t2 closed his ark too well he destroyed cyberdyne stoped judgement day,no skynet, and saved the future nothing more for him to do no point in continuing his ark or even writing a story for him, what would you have done with his character
Why is John dying in the first place? when any nobody could take his place you know the story has gone to shit. Like he said this movie shits all over t1-t2
I wonder if people complained about SJW in 1984 when Linda Hamilton was the lead role
I feel like if they change the name/title “terminator” to something else would cause an uproar
It’d flop hard
2:43 Kyle Reese's quote is void cuz of this movie? Damn it, CARL!!! Lol
Actually the T2 quote 'I know now why you cry' confirms that terminators learn human emotion and empathy but can't feel it themselves. It's a bit like a sociopath in the real world can at least learn the concept of empathy even if they don't feel it, so I thought Carl made sense.
@@nicholasgordon4999 I think you mean psychopath because sociopaths can feel empathy, they just choose not to employ it.
@@davidarbogast37 The actual term is schizophrenia. Psychopaths and sociopaths are misused words.

Its answered pretty clearly in the movie arnold says that a chronal event creates a ripple in time that can be perceived in the past of that event
@@carlito19934 Read my comment again. Arnold knows where a new terminator will appear, but they have no clue where its gonna go after that. Sarah had no way of knowing they were gonna be on that freeway.

I literally watched up to the death of John and said nope.
John: "It doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear, and It absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."
Nyet: "And after you're dead, it will raise a family, give itself an unassuming name and specialize in drapes."
Me: Then it will drop its facade when the nuking and machine uprising begins, traumatizing its wife and child upon revealing itself to be a machine in front of them.
I don't plan on ever watching dark fate. I appreciate you making this video because it validates my concerns and made it so I didn't have to watch it to find out for myself. T1, T2, Salvation were the best and the most cohesive.
That john connor twist though made me sad. Made me remeber Kyle's words
_SHE WATCHES HER SON DIE_

I was interested to see what someone invested in terminator lore such as you would have to say about the film. I appreciate your points and think they accurately portray why everyone feels so violated by this film. Thx FilmComicsExplained
"It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear and it absolutely will not stop ever until you are dead. Oh and after your dead it may feel sorry about killing you and start a family, yeah its weird" *sigh* 😑
And own a furniture company in the process too, can't forget that.

You know you've ruined a franchise when you have to explain that the other Terminator films were not canon. The franchised died with John.
I appreciate your voice explaining the movies, and with this soundtrack is quite mysterious. haha
Kyle Reese is not original John Connors dad from T1.(that scarface)
That guy erased himselfe from the timeline by sending back Kyle.
Young John from T2 is not the same person as Future John
(scarface) from T1.
I like that theory. 🤔
The purpose of Terminators is to travel back in time to remove what can impact the future. Example future resistance leaders.
I actually liked that the T-800 actually adapted to a "normal human life" cause it has been shown that the t-800's are independent AI's wich were capable to learn and act independently, i think the movie has some interesting ideas but just as you said they were horribly mashed together
To me the highlights of this movie were Gabriel's Rev 9 and Karl
However I see a problem. Skynet would switch there t 800s in read only case of them going rouge on solo minutes the extended cut of terminator 2, unless they deactivated when there objective were finished which could be possible.
@@foxgaming1084 this is actually touched some more somewhere (don't remember where tho),
Skynet came up with the read only as a way to limit what the independent AI's could grow to and it somewhat worked 'cause the t800, t900 and t1000 were not meant for long term operation but eventually the lesser AI would break out of their limitations and became sort of self aware or just straight up disobeyed orders among other things, which made them unpredictable or dangerous to skynet's goals and so were quickly put into obsolescence by other models.

If Arnold is in then I'll watch it and he's always great even if the movie sucks. At that age there's high propability he's not going to be around much longer so I'll enjoy every moment
i agree with you about salvation being the best one other than 1 and 2.
Glad to hear some love for Salvation!
I watched and enjoyed this movie for Linda and Arnold. I did my best to ignore the new politically correct cast.
