Thanks for showing the in-depth process. I have a BBC with a mini starter but it does the same think when hot. Just a single click, once it cools it fires right up. I have tried header wrap and heat shield around starter and nothing works lol, this will be next I think.

Glad it helped, been using this setup for 30 years, always worked good for me.

@@unclebucksgarage7695 Kind of like the jumper that comes with the summit kit but my mini starter has a push on plug in for the ignition side. Just have to make my own wire I guess to bridge the starter.

You don't need a remote solenoid. Can't tell you how many times I see people miss the real reason the starter gets heat soaked and goes bad. It's missing the heat shield. There's a reason GM put heat shields over the starter from the factory. Get a modern aluminum heat shield, problem solved. Maybe $20.

Is that a full sized GM starter? Correct me if I'm wrong but, it appears you used the instructions for a small gear reduction starter on a full sized GM starter. The full sized GM starter (direct drive) pulls more current and has a battery cable going to the left side main post of the remote starter.

This worked great. But I have a micro starter so o had to make a jump wire but when the car starts the starter gear spins for another 3 seconds or so. It’s not engaged to the flex plate. But it still sounds awful. I’ve tried everything.

did you remember to ground it to the engine

@@unclebucksgarage7695 it’s mounted to the cars passenger side fender, which I thought would be good. I’ll try running a separate ground tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for the tip

Ran a separate ground. Starter still spins for a few seconds. It worked fine with the full size starter but the mini is giving me this issue

@unclebucksgarage7695 new battery mutable ground wires, the only thing I haven't tried is a different starter. Because the one on it is new, I'm gonna try a high torque starter.
