I got an 85 from my grandfather's property in Arizona, managed to shenanigan my way into a title. Razor straight, no rust whatsoever aside from a quarter size spot behind the right rear tire, nobody ever cut on it and all the stuff like the jack still under the hood. Hate to argue, but my 77 c15 has never been in a wreck, been in the family since new. My doors sag like crazy. @@unclebucksgarage7695 thank you I been watching so many of your videos on square bodies .. you do a wonderful job. Very informative and well done. The steering column video was a great watch.
My 74 chev has a lot of rust issues, but not in places that are not typical (note that i've seen personally) like in the bed pan and the quarter panels above the tire, the front clip is not original, fenders pretty much split in half like a fortune cookie about 15 years ago cuz of the rust. Other than that though, ots a straight as hell truck that we've had since 1978, and im only 16. Its the truck the family uses to either drive to school, or to cruise around.
Also Buck...another common problem is water leakage into the floor when it rains...you will think its a leaky widshield but in reality its coming from the body seal that has gone bad in the cowel area below the wiper area...just needs to be resealed.
Guess I’ve been lucky on all that, as I’ve never had an issue with buying an old square body with a title or even getting a title on an old square body. As for the magnet, yeah that works in most cases if it’s a back yard bondo job. I’ve always used the tap test, as bondo is always going to give off a different sound when tapped. My biggest problem has always been that dang, foldable hood early square body’s have. As for the rusty body panel’s, I can buy those dime a dozen off of LMC trucks.
I got my 69 c30 with a title, given it wasn't in perfect condition. The cab corners and rocker panels needed to be replaced. (Already done) Besides that, the bed is about 6 inches too short, but that's no big deal. With a built blue printed sbc 350 pushing 400 hp to the wheels. Only paid $2,800 for it.
I'd add to check the steering box bolts in the frame on the 4 x 4's they're known for wallowing out or cracking the frame there. And also the cowl fills up with all kinds of crud like leaves and pine needles depending upon your location and it does the same thing you're talking about under the battery tray. 🍻
Had to get a duplicate title for mine. Bought it in bakersfield and drove it all the way back to san diego. Just to go to the dmv and realize i had to chase the previous owner (before the seller) to get another bill of sale. Had to pay $300 to the dmv for the duplicate or another $300 in gas (or more) to fimd the guy
In my opinion the number 1 thing to check is for a rusted out firewall/windshield frame. If it has that, its pretty much fatal to that cab, unless you are super talented at metal work or have super deep pockets to pay someone to repair. In FL i see these trucks all the time with lower windshield frames totally rotted away or the firewall seem rusted like swiss cheese.
@@unclebucksgarage7695 yep, it's a real issue and it really sucks. I have an 82 c10 and whats crazy is that it actually has good floors and decent rockers but due to bad luck it has a 100% rotted out windshield frame and a super holey roof skin. It's a common problem in my area so donor cabs are in basically the same shape and finding patch pieces at the junkyard are not an option because they are always rotted too or someone else's cuts them out.
@@unclebucksgarage7695 yep a lot of people in my area buy parts trucks from out of state just to get useable/decent cabs. Believe it or not even though FL is considered the "south" our old cars get some pretty serious rot around here.
Throw your magnet in the trash, its pointless. 73-80 squares always have Rust issues, shoddy bondo repairs, thats expected. 010 blocks can either be a 2 or 4 bolt. You wont know what you have until you tear the pan off.
Fan and the shroud was missing- "its all here"😂🍻 Last k5 I did you could open the door and walk all the way to the tranny hump. There was no rocker or floor at all! No biggie though, just cut the parts out of one of my parts trucks and weld it back together. 😎
Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your solution! It's amazing to see how fellow enthusiasts like you can come up with creative ways to fix things. Keep up the great work and keep those trucks running!
Hey! So, I have a '74 K20. I got it running and driving, but it didn't have much power when I stepped on the gas. I thought I needed to adjust the timing and tweak the carburetor. I started with the HEI distributor, set it to top dead center, dropped the distributor in, and put the spark plug wires in the right order. But it's still not running right, even though I know there's spark and it's getting gas. It cranks but won't fire, and now the carb is spitting gas out the top.
Im looking at a Chevy truck for a build project and the dr side foot well section of the floor and the rockers and the floor pan it's almost rusted completely off, but I am still considering trying to get the truck until 3 years ago it was sitting for a junk rear diff,79 Chevy k10 Scottsdale with ac regular cab long bed.
My daily looked a lot like this when i pulled it out of the ditch it had sat in for 8 years. 5 years later and shes in much happier condition. Even has a 5 speed now 🤘
If you go to a concert do you turn your back to the stage?... Engineers don't turn their back to the console while they are mixing and recording music either. In other words in order to hear your music correctly it's supposed to come from in front of you. Understand now?
@@unclebucksgarage7695car designers and engineers don't give a damn about music in a automobile. It was an option they could charge you a premium for. So they just threw what ever cheap equipment they could vend and stuck some speakers in it somewhere, usually in the rear package tray, or behind the seats or in the middle of the dash( mono). Eventually people started to want better sound in their vehicles, so now most vehicles have speakers in the dash , front doors , ect. In the mean time there was a mobile audio industry that was producing much better quality systems than came as original equipment from the auto dealers. And those people UNDERSTOOD where the music was supposed to come from and what it was supposed to sound like. Therefore that's why you find so many cars and trucks from the classic era with speaker holes cut out of the doors and kick panels and sometimes dashboard's... if you don't believe me, ask somebody that knows. I did my best.

you skipped the west coast, there are many squarebody trucks in my area, alot of them don't have rust, may be surface rust, but not very may have penetrating rust. all the squares I have shopped have titles.

THANKS FOR WATCHING, HAVE A GREAT DAY!
I got my 69 c30 with a title, given it wasn't in perfect condition. The cab corners and rocker panels needed to be replaced. (Already done)
Besides that, the bed is about 6 inches too short, but that's no big deal. With a built blue printed sbc 350 pushing 400 hp to the wheels. Only paid $2,800 for it.
NICE
appreciate the video!
Thank you very much, happy father's day
😎 I been driving a 78 k10 for many years
AWESOME, Thanks for stopping by.
I'd add to check the steering box bolts in the frame on the 4 x 4's they're known for wallowing out or cracking the frame there. And also the cowl fills up with all kinds of crud like leaves and pine needles depending upon your location and it does the same thing you're talking about under the battery tray.
🍻
Thanks for the additional tips! Checking the steering box bolts and keeping an eye on the cowl are definitely important maintenance steps for 4x4s.
Its not just a K10 frame. I am working through a C10 frame conversion right now that has the steering box issue. I was surprised to see it.
@@UFPTX good to know. I don't mess with 2wd's so I had never seen that
Come to Colorado lots of squares with very little rust.
MAYBE
Had to get a duplicate title for mine. Bought it in bakersfield and drove it all the way back to san diego. Just to go to the dmv and realize i had to chase the previous owner (before the seller) to get another bill of sale. Had to pay $300 to the dmv for the duplicate or another $300 in gas (or more) to fimd the guy
Yes Sir it happens, Thanks for watching
One thing I forgot to say you can't find a good straight Hood give me a shout Uncle Buck
I appreciate that
Have you got any videos showing how to change the full-time 4x4 hubs to manual lockers?
SORRY NO, But, am trying to make a deal on a 4x4. son wants to build one. Keep watching!!! Have a great weekend!
Still have my dad’s 79 GMC three quarter ton . He bought new for 6000 . Out the door
NICE!!!!
You should see one of them it still has the paint on the frame and yes I heard my titles are worth $2,000 alone
MAYBE
I have a 78 square body very minimal rust with a Texas title one owner
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND
What year is your truck I belibe those are the headlights I need!!!!!
it was a 78
In my opinion the number 1 thing to check is for a rusted out firewall/windshield frame. If it has that, its pretty much fatal to that cab, unless you are super talented at metal work or have super deep pockets to pay someone to repair. In FL i see these trucks all the time with lower windshield frames totally rotted away or the firewall seem rusted like swiss cheese.
I have heard that is an issue on the coasts. lucky we don't get that here in Oklahoma. Wishing you all the best for the future builds.
@@unclebucksgarage7695 yep, it's a real issue and it really sucks. I have an 82 c10 and whats crazy is that it actually has good floors and decent rockers but due to bad luck it has a 100% rotted out windshield frame and a super holey roof skin. It's a common problem in my area so donor cabs are in basically the same shape and finding patch pieces at the junkyard are not an option because they are always rotted too or someone else's cuts them out.
wow, that sucks. I hate to see them waist away. have a good week
You wont know what you have until you tear the pan off.
thank you, have a great weekend
Sure, but it helps to negotiate the price if you can show the seller that it’s a Bondo Bomber!
@@unclebucksgarage7695thank you for this great video and I think the magnet technique is amazing and I see no problem with it. Great work man!
Fan and the shroud was missing- "its all here"😂🍻
Last k5 I did you could open the door and walk all the way to the tranny hump.
Great video Buck!! 😁😎👍🏻
thanks, wishing you all the best for the future
It's 180 degrees out
does sound 180 out, pull the distibutor out a little spin it 180 Degrees and put it back in, try that and let me know

Burnt valves…..leak down test.
ouch
Im looking at a Chevy truck for a build project and the dr side foot well section of the floor and the rockers and the floor pan it's almost rusted completely off, but I am still considering trying to get the truck until 3 years ago it was sitting for a junk rear diff,79 Chevy k10 Scottsdale with ac regular cab long bed.
Same thing as the underhood with the truck considering..
Anyway the truck i was talking about the passenger side isn't bad why i am still considering it and it is a Ohio truck.
The 79 Chevy k10 Scottsdale i just mentioned has a clean title..
it will be a lot of work
Yep
Looks like an 80 model. Fuel door and front chrome clip.
THANKS FOR WATCHING
My daily looked a lot like this when i pulled it out of the ditch it had sat in for 8 years. 5 years later and shes in much happier condition. Even has a 5 speed now 🤘
Looks like your daily went from being stuck in a ditch to shifting gears like a pro. Talk about a major upgrade!

If you go to a concert do you turn your back to the stage?... Engineers don't turn their back to the console while they are mixing and recording music either. In other words in order to hear your music correctly it's supposed to come from in front of you. Understand now?
NOPE
THANKS FOR WATCHING
I'm like you I do not understand about people having a squarebodys setting in the woods park the truck and take the keys out and let them sit there and rust away but they say oh I'm going to restored you go back 10 years still sitting there and will not sell it trees grown up around it and will not sell them I know where there are two Chevrolet trucks 81 model and 82 model saying their rusting away and will not sell them but they say they going to restore they've got trees around and we got to take the chainsaw and cut them down I mean drove into the woods at the edge of a field and they left them there Chrome intakes and more and will not sell them why not you're not going to use them so Nola I can go pick them up but can't move them to the trees that's bulshit I've got a 85 Silverado 4 wheel drive sitting in a barn I bought it for $1,500 I've been offered $8,000 for it right now but I'm going to use it I just put a new transmission in it last night I'm restoring it if you like to contact me I'm in North Carolina there's old Square bodies everywhere
Sometimes it's just a shame.
doesn't matter where you are, there is always that guy. over the years I have pulled them from the weeds after buying them from the family after that person passed. sometimes its really sad. wishing you all the best for the future brother
not in east nc these morons scrapped them all and stole three from me while i was out of state working , yeah carolina sucks so bad i had to work out of state
All of these trucks I’ve ever owned the driver side floor pan is always the worst
Have a great weekend
Okay but to be fair behing my seat is filled with crap tools parts straps ect
Yep
mine also. have a great week
you skipped the west coast, there are many squarebody trucks in my area, alot of them don't have rust, may be surface rust, but not very may have penetrating rust. all the squares I have shopped have titles.
NICE
Hey Uncle Buck, how many square bodies have you had over the years (roughy guess)?
6
10 or 11 somewhere in that ballpark
I am not anyway done collecting, Have a great day
Use a company called (classic title) as long it's not stolen or money owed on it you can get a title $300.00 and they do the hard work for you
thanks
Mine is 35 years old.
Nice
When engineers had taste
YES SIR
I hope you don’t need a fan because you won’t find one on that one
lol have a great weekend
HAVE 2 CHEVY TRUCKS RUST FREE WITH PAPER WORK
Nice
AWESOME. Wishing you all the best for the future
Get a Bonded Title. Problem solved.
Maybe
Might have to try that in the future. Have a great day
If it looks like SHIT then don't buy it. Your going to find a mint Chevy truck & then want to pay $ 100 bucks & want change in return. I am sick of people wanting every thing EXTRA cheap & then want to lecture you how they're doing you the favor of buying it. So if you need it or like it buy or get the FK OFF my land & stop wasting my time. Cuz when your selling your sht you want MILLIONS for it.
thanks for watching
screw those trucks junk back then junk right now. My memory s were not fond of those trucks
LOL, HAVE A GREAT DAY
Hey I got 86 willing to sell title in my name
Don't really need to sell I just need some help working on it
Where do you live?
States that make it hard to get titles are stupid! More vehicles registered more money the state makes!🤡💩
Agreed
You Betcha
