Abandoned Himuro Mansion The Most Haunted Mansion In Japan (REAL LIFE FATAL FRAME)

  • Located in Wakayama Prefecture, This Western-style building is a deserted mansion with a fascinating history that is said to be the inspiration for Himuro Mansion from the game Fatal Frame. Although they have striking similarities such as being located on top of a mountain and involving hauntings. Its true origin sets it apart. Constructed in 1910, the opulent villa was the residence of Asajiro Yura, a prominent and affluent Japanese businessman. Born in 1878, Asajiro hailed from the Yura family, renowned textile dyers associated with the Kishu Tokugawa clan. After completing his education at Osaka University, he embarked on a venture in the dye industry, transforming his family's business.
As the world plunged into the chaos of World War I in 1914, Asajiro faced a critical predicament. With imports of dyestuffs from Germany halted due to the conflict, Japan's dye industry, heavily reliant on these supplies, faced peril. As the German Empire possessed exclusive manufacturing technology, the situation seemed dire. Yet, Asajiro rose to the challenge and became the first in Japan to successfully refine industrial-grade pure benzene, a significant breakthrough. He also ventured into producing phenol for disinfection and played a pivotal role in manufacturing Shimose gunpowder and set explosives during the Sino-Japanese War and World War II. Asajiro's expertise became instrumental in post-war Wakayama's chemical industry and fostered connections with military officials.
Rumors even suggested that Asajiro Yura's had gatherings which provided him with insider information on Pearl Harbor. Nevertheless, Asajiro passed away in 1964 at the age of 86, leaving behind a family legacy. The mansion remained within the Yura family's possession until the 1980s when they relocated after the tragic loss of one of their children to a severe illness. Since around 2005, the Mori no Hai Western-style building gradually fell into disuse and obscurity, its historical significance fading with time.

They have to vent their sense of hopelessness and their sense of purposeless by destroying. They know they haven't got anything else to offer the world.
They haven't got the guts or brains to think about why they feel so worthless so they just destroy. Dogs piss up against structures to claim the territory for themselves. These individuals are sub animal. Places like these make these people feel intimidated. They know deep down they are nothing and so they destroy what puts them down. A family, a home, a history, evidence of love, of having been someone. There is sadness in abandoned homes, but so much more sadness in the losers that need to actually destroy on purpose an already abandoned building. Pathetic.

The “samurai dolls” are mostly Ichimatsu dolls, a type of doll popularized in the Edo period. They usually depict children; the larger boy doll dressed in black, in the red case is probably (I didn’t go back to check) wearing a shichi-go-san kimono set. The previous doll with the head wrapping is a gofun (a white pigmented, chalky substance similar to plaster) doll representing the warrior-monk Benkei. Both of these types of dolls probably have a wood and gofun (clay and later plastic replaced the very thin gofun layers in more expensive or older dolls) construction, with real kimono silk and metallic thread used to clothe them. The hanging “charm” depicting a toy horse is not actually a charm, but another type of doll-adjacent artwork called oshie. It’s a 3D form of picture made up of cloth; elaborate and expensive hagoita paddles utilize this technique to make the figures more dynamic.

It’s heartbreaking to see such a lovely space in such ruin and disrepair. I know it’s completely different there culturally when it comes to deaths in a home and abandonment. As well as the spiritual side of things. It would make a lovely time capsule like museum since it has such an important tie to history. It’s so sad to me to see it just falling apart. But who knows how the family feels. I’m sure not as romantic as we do. For all we know those are memories they wish to leave behind. Peace to whatever energy is left there. Hi from Malaysia! My mom and grandma used to have those ‘wooden slippers’- we call them clogs-Chinese ones were painted red and the front was pointed down so you could roll them forward and could walk faster, even through wet areas like the market or a flooded street or a freshly washed and scrubbed kitchen. The ghosts in her old house definitely wore clogs-you could hear the very distinctive sound Cluk-cluk-cluk! even though by then no one used such clogs anymore in the 90s!

I am a Japanese who likes foreign architecture! However, it is also true that interesting buildings remain in Japan.
At the end of the 19th century, architecture such as rich houses and public facilities in Japan was influenced by Europe and other countries.
There were times when Western-style furniture was arranged in a Japanese-style building, but in richer houses, it was sometimes built by connecting the Japanese-style building with the Western-style building.
This is called the Japanese-Western eclectic
Japanese-style architecture has become more valuable now, but Japanese-style buildings at that time were really a kind of art work created by craftsmen.
Although weathering is several times faster than foreign stone houses, I want them to enjoy the richness and sense of loss.
    Thank you!

I think that place was absolutely beautiful! I mean, creepy AF, but still!! The wall artwork was stunning - the cranes, lotus's etc - WOW!!
The western style room really weirded me out. The fact it looks completely untouched, unlike the rest, was strange.
I think the smaller house may have been the gatehouse, due to its proximity to the front entrance of the property. But the way it looks, well, it's like the got up one morning and decided to just get dressed and walk out the front door, never to return.
Thanks for doing this video! It was really interesting, and can't wait to see the next one!!

I'm from Australia and I exploring locations is a passion.
Unfortunately here when places are leaked they get trashed and graffitied -,-
I'm flying to Japan soon and starting to look into locations I hope to explore, its so beautiful to see abandoned places that have been treated with the respect they deserve.

I have watched many abandoned videos from all U-Tube channels and what can stand out the most is how anyone can leave behind precious and priceless pictures!! Everything else can be replaced! So my guess is that they owed money to the bank or the IRS .But still leaving pictures is very hard to fathom!!!

I love how the house is old style Japanese as well as modern western. The combo of two is very nice the home is/was beautiful. It is a shame it deteriorated so bad. So much history. And it’s important to remember our history. Even the stuff we aren’t proud of.

Great video!! You guys are very brave for going inside the mansion, considering it's bad reputation. Supposedly 7 people were murdered in that mansion via shinto ritual. Hopefully that story is NOT true. I was amazed at the amount of valuables left inside that are worth a lot of money like those Pokemon toys. Pokemon Cards, artwork, among other things. Estimated value of renovation/landscape renovation probably would be between $4 million- $7 million dollar budget. This mansion would be great on a HGTV show. However due to it's dark past, and hauntings I don't see it happening.

2:25 benzene... gave my Father Parkinsons, as he was a painter and he used it alot in the 70s and 80s. If you use benzene Always use breathing, skin and eye protection👍 Many old timers like my father did not take the precautions they should have and are paying the price. ❤ Love your videos🙏🏼 Appreciate how respectful you guys are.❤

What a beautiful home it must have been and in such a beautiful, private setting. The screwdriver that was thrown to the floor looked like the one that was in the entryway on top of the cabinet holding the wooden slippers.

I always feel sad when a see videos like this one, because I can imagine how the mansion was at its prime with people, garden, workers, kids and even pets, some music playing softly on a radio while they drank tea, or watching the forest in autumn... but the pictures if the families are always what breaks my heart, call me sentimental, but it makes me sad to picture that family, happy, uoung, healthy and then come back to the elegant and lonely abandoned mansion.

The Kanji (Chinese writing) on the hallway is an old Chinese cursive calligraphy, read from right to left is '氣象萬千' 'qi xiang wan qian' meaning ' Majestic, grand, mighty, spectacular, changeful prospect and wonderful panorama.'

If Iwas the owner of the mansion and was planning on leaving and never returning, I would gift the place to a young family, on the condition that they live in it and maintain the property, to ensure that it lives on, its really sad to see the place in such a state it loooked like it was a lovely home.

Seeing such a nice home abandoned is rather depressing. It's too bad it couldn't be turned into a remote hotel or something. But it's understandable. What amazes me is how the house isn't looted of all it's nice things.

I don't know if someone mentioned this in the comments, but I've heard that in Japan in order to officially "inherit" some property according to the will the successor should pay a pretty big percent of the cost of whatever is in question as a tax and many people just refuse to inherit what they are supposed to...
