She said it will take several sessions but my dog did it in seconds. I bowed in front of her and she bowed back to me, I rewarded her with a treat right away and she kept doing it over and over. I guess some dogs are just born to do tricks. She also did the roll over which I thought was impossible and not only did she do it within minutes, she did multiple rollovers. I love my baby girl to bits!!!
That's good that your dog was able to catch on quickly, but it is just that! I am glad that you were able to use this direction to guide your dog to do what you wanted it to do but realize not all dogs are the same and learn the same just like humans! She may have been saying this to help people from getting discouraged if they didn't learn it right away. Yes, my dog learned it pretty quickly as well but not all dogs are created equal! Don't think you're a professional dog trainer just because you got your dog to do one thing! And I mean this with all sincerity because I've just had a friend that I was training his dog and I wasn't there for 2 weeks because I wasn't feeling well because I was coming off of my medicine and and that time he was able to get his dog to give him. Paul and he thought he was the best thing in the world and told me he didn't need me and left and now he has a dog. That's a nightmare! So always humble yourself like you seem to have already done!
I was trying to teach my dog to roll over but he couldn't do it. I didn't want to push him to do it cause i know that training is mostly about connecting and communicating with your dog. So i decided to try and teach him something else. I saw this video and when i started teaching him to bow he got it immediately. My point is try to make training a happy thing for your dog and if he/she doesn't get to do everything it's okay. There's still many other tricks that you can try
I love this Octi! This is exactly right! Not every trick is for every dog, or something you need to build different tricks to help the ultimate trick connect more with your dog. Have you checked out my BANG video? It may help towards your ultimate rollover progression and is a fun one to teach! BANG video: th-cam.com/video/ghL7Z-0kXgU/w-d-xo.html Also, always make sure you're practicing rollover on a very soft surface. Rollover: th-cam.com/video/6jD6ai5sJK4/w-d-xo.html
If you're having trouble teaching roll over, try doing what I did with my dogs. Make sure your dog is comfortable being in a down position. Reward them for being there, being stable, and having you stroke them all over. Make sure your dog is comfortable being on their side with you near. You can capture the behaviour when your dog is napping. Then, slow down, reward tiny approximations - reward just a tiny weight shift at first. If your dog is too jumpy, if they're whining and being frustrated, try feeding them their dinner before you train. Sometimes motivation for food is a hindrance, not a help! Hope this helps.
I followed your technique for the “play dead” and I had my 3 month old mini Aussie playing dead by a week and a half. Due to crazy life stuff I haven’t been able to play dead with her for a week and she still remembers. Your tutorials are amazing. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Valerie - than you so much for taking the time to write this nice comment! That's wonderful about your mini aussie! Be sure to tag me on insta @doggy.u - would love to share your trick on our stores!
I have a 9 month old kelpie pup, Daisy and shes super smart. I had her in the bow position in our first session, after i had 2 mini meltdowns. Can’t wait to keep going and getting her to do it properly. Thank you so much for making this video. I will definitely keep watching your videos.
Took less than 5 min and I had her bowing on command. Best part is I reward with play immediately after training sessions. I incorporated a bow before throwing her toy for her and it reinforced the new skill. I’ll be working on a consistent cue and getting her to do it at my side as we continue to practice, but I did it in a short session and kept it fun. I’ve never taught her this trick before, but I do narrate things when she’s doing them for her buttons, so that probably helped move THIS activity along more quickly. Thank you for a great tutorial.
So glad you found this tutorial helpful! Definitely check out our most recent trick tutorial for a fun one: th-cam.com/video/aaWM0SJhRWQ/w-d-xo.html Also, if you want to show off your trick, tag us on instagram @doggy.u so we can share it in our stories :)
Such a good video! I did your “bang” video with my year old dog and he got it within 5 min! Going to do the “bow” tomorrow when I get more treats. Keep up the awesome work with your pups!
Thanks Jeanette! I'm so glad you've found my videos helpful! Be sure to tag us on instagram if you want to show off your training in our stories :) @doggy.u . Happy Training!
I am going to follow you. Was looking for a tricks to teach my dog while stuck inside and chose you to watch out of all the videos that cropped up. Am I glad I did. You are easy to follow, give great explanations as to why to do what or what not to do while training, and also give us real talk such as "this isn't going to happen in one day" - that is important to hear because novice dog owners might not know that and get frustrated. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos, going to pace myself because if I watch too many tricks I won't know which one to do first!! lol..
I'm so glad you found this video helpful! I hope you enjoy some of my other step-by-step training videos and if you like tricks, check out the tricks playlist. Thanks for commenting and be sure to tag us on instagram @Doggy.U so I can share you trick training videos! Happy Training!
Loved this, I like you not only show what you want your dog to do but also what the trainer needs to do with their body. This is so much easier than what I was trying to do.
Hi CLM! I'm so glad you found this video helpful! Be sure to check out my other trick training videos and to tag me on instagram @doggy.u to show off your trick! Happy Training!
Thanks so much for this. I have long wanted to teach my girl to stretch before she takes off to play hard. She picked up on this in one short session. A few more and I think she'll do it for me on command. Really happy to have the heads-up regarding the lying down pitfall, too. You're such a great teacher!
I met my new puppy a week ago and shes awesome! Soon I will start training her, when she arrives. I already have decided on the basic tricks and other ones that are showy and smart because I know what kind of dog she is. Shes bouncy and playful, but has a calmer side and I know she’ll be an excellent student. Shes a Whippet-Kelpie cross, both very different but smart breeds, so I have faith in her! I’ve learnt from many tutorials that every dog has potential and every dog will do something amazing. I’ve also learnt that your channel is amazing, by experience and the comments on this very video. I cannot express how amazed I am with your dog! I may have to start my own channel, with clips of me teaching my new Tess! Honestly, shes amazing. I just love her so much, and this would be a great way to show off her skills and to bond with her even more! Thank you so much for this video!
Hello How To Train Your SandWing! Congrats on your new puppy and I'm so glad you're loving my channel! If you haven't yet, check out my video on brining home puppy. I think it will be helpful for creating goals around your first few weeks of training together! :) th-cam.com/video/e5jv7zEv7wQ/w-d-xo.html
Update: we got her yesterday and shes so amazing! I’ve already taught her to sit and to go onto her bed on command! She can be a little rough but not all the time. When I’m watching TV or something she will lay down next to me and just be calm! So her personality at the time depends on ours at the time!
This was brilliant! I never managed to teach my dog bow with the method I was shown and gave up trying but this method makes so much more sense. Thank you!,
He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book th-cam.com/users/postUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". It was written simply and you can jump from chapter to chapter to review anything as needed.
Hi! Today we practice "this bow" & your right Laura! Mr. Cooper went down inmediatly, and then he was ready to try to roll over hahaha... he was like What MG? Saludos desde Monterrey, México.
Great video Laura! The tip about throwing the cookie forward - perfect! I’ll have to give that a try. I always get laying down 🤔. Whip is freaking adorable!
@@sophic2355 why do you say his snout is too short? Do you mean to train this trick? Snout length shouldn't have an effect on his ability to bow. Maybe take it slower and reward for smaller steps?
@@sophic2355 Try using chicken or something that you can hold while your dog nibbles. Also, your criteria might be too high. Remember that to start, we're just looking for a tiny weight shift backwards.
I like your vedio so much! Most of the coach teaches skills with body touches, but some of the dogs like shibainu were super sensitive and don’t like body touches. I could teach bow in 10 minutes with your guidance while I tought my dog “die” with body touch spent more than 1hour one week. Your guidance is great indeed!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! and YES! Many dogs don't like being physically manipulated (just like humans don't like to be pushed around to do things). I'm so glad you are finding my videos helpful! :)
I love your method here....worked great for my cavalier puppy..... I am working now on her maintaining that position.....had to come back and check in.....got it now...
Yayyy! I'm so glad this has worked well for you! If you're in the "maintaining position" phase, be sure to feed a ton, really fast in position, one after the other and then throw forward. So it should be bow, feed, feed, feed, throw. Then slowly increase the time between feeding. Good luck and be sure to tag us on Instagram @doggy.u if you're on social media so I can see your progress! :)
I've seen many videos for this trick but I just couldn't get my puppy to do this as efficiently. Eventually I gave up last month. Randomly came across your video today and it's great. It motivated me to try this again and I will. The way you and your canine partner demonstrated this session was awesome. You explained the dos and don'ts really well. I'll surely give it a try and I already know it will work. :) thank you so much ❤🌻😇
@@DoggyU OMG, my puppy did it today. You had to be the first one to know ❤💓🌻. It was a bit difficult one to teach but then my dog did great with a lot of practice. He got the hang of it just last week and now he does it with just a hand gesture and a treat followed after few seconds. I'm so happy. Thank you so much. 💖💖keep doing great things with your canine partner. 😊😇
Wow great video, I love it. My boy is a border collie x Kelpie and so smart and super high energy. I started this trick about 15 minutes ago and he is getting it. Not completely yet but so close. Thanks for a beautiful intro to your channel. You have an amazing rapport with your girl..
Thanks Smudgey! This made my day! Keep working with your boy and check out some of my other training and trick videos for more ideas. Thanks for watching! :)

I've just watched an assortment of teaching the bow videos; yours is the best. I'll come back when I've taught Flora the bow and we've taken note about getting that weight shift understood by the dog before the next stage.
So glad this worked well for you! Be sure to check out some of our other trick tutorials, like training your dog to jump over your arms: th-cam.com/video/aaWM0SJhRWQ/w-d-xo.html Happy Training!
Hey Belle! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It really made my day! Be sure to tag us on instagram @doggy.u with all of your training progress! :)
I'm so happy I found yours. Gonna try it. Tried a different method and they recommended putting hard under dog to keep from laying down...but my dog is 73lbs and I literslly was sweating working with him 🤣🤦🏾♀️
Honestly speaking, my dog is small in size & she very well understands how to do tricks like jump over things, rollover, laydown, paw, sit, but she was having trouble doing this one. i think i might start doing this trick at a stage where she learned other tricks, like this one. The way you train your dog is very good & kind, but my dog doesn't pay attention to my form or anything at all, except for the treat, that's where her downfall is. if you have a method on getting more of the dog's attention i would really appreciate it. thank you :]
Hi Static - you should check out the DoggyU community at patreon.com/doggyu. One of the tiers will give you personal feedback on video you submit so I can be of better assistance!
Hi Em- a couple ideas. One, you may be asking too much. We're looking for a tiny weight shift so if they are stepping back, you've missed the weight shift and should click earlier. Another thing that can be helpful is to put them on a pedestal so stepping back isn't an option. Alternatively, you can have them practice with their back end close to a wall so there's no place to step. Hope that helps!
I made a ton of progress by getting my dog to do it while on the couch, facing me (standing in front of the couch). My dog was backing up on the floor but couldn't on the couch. Once we got the pattern down, we moved back to the floor and were way more successful.
Hi Ally and Odin! Thank you so much for sending your feedback! So glad the trick worked for you! Feel free to tag us on instagram @doggy.u so we can share your success to our stories!
Love this--teaching a tricks class now and I came looking for videos to fix the lying-down issue as well as find a smoother process to transition to a performance cue. This video addressed both. And your training style is very parallel to my own. Totally gonna keep your channel as a reference for the tricks I have a more challenging time with:^)
This is awesome, I've been looking for something like this. Thank you so much! But I will say, you totally missed out on your video outro being a bow to the camera lol
This is so good I haven't tried it yet but I want my dog Rosie to bow to my mom and dad I'm trying to get my dad to get me another dog and my mom doesn't like big dog but here I go!
I made the mistake of using the leg method and my dog got very nervous. Love this method very successful and enjoyable not stressful and doesn’t make her nervous.
Thank you. This seems so easy. My dog has been taught to sit before me while waiting for a treat or what trick to do. Should I teach a stand first then work on bow?
Teaching stand first would likely make it a bit easier, but you could always just lure him into a stand then proceed with the trick. If you are working on the stand, and sitting is already very automatic for the dog, I recommend teaching front and rear foot targets. This can be helpful in teaching the concept to the dog: Front target: th-cam.com/video/cvg5xe1zyEo/w-d-xo.html Rear target: th-cam.com/video/_DsAH1JQJ_8/w-d-xo.html
My new pup is hopefully going to be a service dog and I’m going to be using the bow as a way to have her say thank you, cute and fun for her and the people I’m interacting with. eg: someone helps me up when I fall, I thank them, I tell the pup to thank them and they bow
Sounds like a fun trick to teach for that! Love it! Make sure you check out my other service dog videos for service-dog specific training :) This one is on public access etiquette, but there's a lot of videos on actual training: th-cam.com/video/LtulQetmrb4/w-d-xo.html And if you want to get some extra help in a community of owner-trainers, check out my Patreon community where you can join for just $3. Thanks so much! I want to make sure I’m as hands off as possible when training my dog and this was the perfect method! I especially liked throwing the food infront of him to prevent his back legs from going down. That was clever. He learned to bow perfectly in like 2 days! Very impressive and easy method!
Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and were able to train your pup with it! Thanks for taking the time to comment and enjoy our other training videos!
that's a good trick! i got my first dog its a husky and im very happy with it. i taught all basic obedience in 2 weeks with no experience at all she is amazing. but what's with the clicker i dont use that i make a sound with my tounge to be able to use both hands..
How would you recommend starting to introduce the cue where you do just the bowing motion with your own body without the outstretched hand part? Currently my dog only understands to do her bow when I push my hand diagonally down to her face. Love the vid btw!! ❤
Hi Alyssa! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! So what you're looking to do is essentially a cue transfer. You may need to start with getting more repetitions of the behavior in with the current cue until it's really solid, then you'll want to just bend over, wait a moment, and then present your hand push, mark and reward. You repeat this until as soon as you start bending, your dog anticipates the hand push and does the bow on the bend. You can learn more about adding cues here: th-cam.com/video/ZyCT17pJJDA/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
I don't have one of teaching bow, but I do have a video on how to capture behavior which would be applicable to any behavior that your dog does naturally: th-cam.com/video/mSfD1HLlM9Q/w-d-xo.html
Hi Aaron - so to transition off a lure you should do two reps with the lure, one rep where you get your "ghost cookie" ie. go into your treat bag, pretend to get the treat but don't, then do the same lure gesture, when the dog does it, click treat. Repeat alternating between cookie and no cookie in hand until the reward comes after the click. Hope that helps!
This is great! I’m so glad I found your channel. How would you cue this same bowing trick for a yoga pose? Same motion from your dog just a different cue from you. I’m basically looking at puppy pose posture. Then I guess they would hold it longer. Thanks!
Hey Jenny! So probably the easiest way to do this is put it on a straight verbal cue, then transfer the cue to the body cue you are looking to use. You'll need a strong behavior and cue relationship before you get started. You can learn about transferring a cue/adding a cue in this video: th-cam.com/video/ZyCT17pJJDA/w-d-xo.html
Hey Debbie! I actually have a whole video on my favorite treats and how to make a trail mix. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/Z8SQno1Qm4w/w-d-xo.html
Hi there, really liked your video , especially because you weren’t talking so fast when people watch these videos they’re jotting down little hints and tips and when the person is talking so fast it’s kind of hard to do both if you’re ever rewinding the video to hear what the person is saying and writing down what you need. Anyways constantly giving the dog treats will they eventually do it without the treat and will they understand what they’re doing when you give them a command like bow I didn’t hear you say too many times bow, so I am wondering will the dog know what it’s doing will it know what it’s being asked to do And will it know what it’s being asked to do if it doesn’t get a treat? Thank you for your video and thank you in advance for your reply😊
Hi Edith! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! As far as using food rewards, you can eventually wean them off this reward in favor of other reinforcers, but I tend to reward heavily and for a long time for newly acquired skills. As for adding cues, I have put a video you might find helpful down below: Adding a Cue: th-cam.com/video/ZyCT17pJJDA/w-d-xo.html
You could train this trick, and then transfer the old cue to the new cue of you doing downward dog as the new cue for this behavior. Check out my video on adding a cue to behavior for more info on adding a cue. th-cam.com/video/mwHYFnWY2rg/w-d-xo.html
Hi Katie - A clicker is not a requirement. Use the marker word "yes" as an alternative. But mechanics matter. Check out my video on mechanics related to marker words and substitute yes for the click: th-cam.com/video/RYsD9US01js/w-d-xo.html
Hi! I love your vids! Do you have any tips for the first step of this lure when a pup has a tendency to just back track instead of leaning back on their hind legs? Thanks!
Hi Holly! Thanks for the kind words! So if the dog is walking backwards, a couple things can help. First, reward before you think you need to. Most people ask too much of the dog too soon. Reward for even the slightest weight shift back. The other thing is to use a pedestal or ottoman to start the trick on. This makes it so the dog can't move backwards. Hope that helps!
That sounds like a great behavior to capture when the dog is doing it. Alternatively, just take a cookie and help them stretch, though just like humans, dogs will generally just stretch when they feel the need to :)
Hi! Just found your channel! Love it! Was so excited to teach bow!! BUT realized how FREAKIN’ fast my dog lays down! (It is her main position, first learned as a puppy) My brain cannot even process throw the treat before she is down! HELP!
One thing you can do is use two stable platforms and have their front feet on one, and their back feet on another. This makes them less likely to lie down and gives you more chance to throw. Just make sure everything is non-slip and stable.
my dog holly knows so many tricks that she thinks in order to get a treat, she needs to do a trick. recently ive taught her to play dead with the verbal command “bang” and the physical command of finger guns, so she thinks that whenever I get the treats out she has to play dead. when I tried to get her to learn this, she just sat in front of me so I had to teach her to stand, but whenever I needed her to stand she would roll over and play dead haha! anybody else have this issue?
I’ve been working on this since this morning. But every time I call my dog over to work with her she sits. How can I encourage her to stay standing so I can move forward with teaching her to bow?
Your treat is likely being held too high above her head. If she's sitting, try taking the treat, putting it on her nose and then drawing it towards her chin/throat. This will cause her to stand, click and reward. It is helpful to first teach a stand cue if your dog doesn't already know a stand. hope that helps!
Thank you so much for this video it took my dog about two training sessions and she’s pretty much got it. How did you get your dog to walk between your legs?
Thanks Jack! I'll add "middle" to my video list. That being said, I have so many to make, so if you're looking for answers more quickly, consider joining our patreon and asking there where I can address the question right away :) patreon.com/doggyu
what an attentive dog, I don't know exactly what breed but she looks like a high energy breed and it's so impressive to get a high energy dog sitting and watching for a command like that
Alright now, I taught my amstaff 13 different things very quickly in 5 months... This is today's challenge. I will definitely be back and let you know how long it takes
Sounds good Jay! Make sure to do lots of short sessions so your dog doesn't get bored. And tag us on Instagram @doggy.u and we'll share it in our stories! :) Happy Training!
Hi Grace! Here's a video that will help explain why I use a clicker and how to use it effectively to train and mark behavior: th-cam.com/video/RYsD9US01js/w-d-xo.html
Are there any tips on how to teach the weight shift to a dog that just refuses to shift :D I have a small dog (Yorkshire terrier) that absolutely refuses to go down or shift the weight. I've tried wall behind her as well as having her on a platform. She tries to put her head down to get the treat and when that alone isn't enough, she just lifts her head and stands watching away from the treat. I've been trying several treats as well as made sure she'd be hungry and eager to work for food but I've had no success. So please, if there's any more tips and tricks (other than the ones mentioned in the video), that would be highly appreciated :) Also, my dog is only 7month and knows her basics (sit, lay, roll, stay, leave it, side (she comes sit on my side), touch, kiss and asking permission by sitting and looking to my eyes), but no more. Could this easy-looking trick be too hard for her? Thanks for your help! I love the way you teach and especially how you talk to your dogs!
Hi Mari! While the trick may not be too "hard" it may be that your pup needs to learn a little more about how they move their body (proprioception) before coming back to this one. I would recommend checking out a couple of these videos and teaching her a front foot target, rear foot target, and spin, and then maybe come back to this trick. Sometimes it's more about the dogs figuring out the use of their body than necessarily the way you're presenting the trick. Whenever I'm struggling with something I always try something similar, and then come back to it. Spin: th-cam.com/video/AEX8WknGkcA/w-d-xo.html Front Foot Target: th-cam.com/video/cvg5xe1zyEo/w-d-xo.html Rear Foot Target: th-cam.com/video/_DsAH1JQJ_8/w-d-xo.html Leg Weaves: th-cam.com/video/F31aaTIQ9cs/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps! CoolWhip is an Australian Koolie. They are a pretty rare breed in the US (only a few breeders) and are often mistaken for other herding breeds like border collies, aussies and heelers. DNA test sounds like a good choice so you can find out what your pup is! :)
Hi Zuse! A couple ideas. One, you may be asking too much. We're looking for a tiny weight shift so if they are stepping back, you've missed the weight shift and should click earlier. Hi Danielle - it really depends on the dog. For dogs with a history of this type of training, it can go relatively quick, but if your dog is getting stuck, try working on some other tricks first and coming back to this one. I recommend leg weaves for a fun trick to start out with: th-cam.com/video/F31aaTIQ9cs/w-d-xo.html
What do you do if your dog does not stand still with his front pawn at the beginning of the trick? My dog moves backward when I take the treat down and back.
Try practicing on an ottoman or platform so that they can't step back. Be sure to reward the smallest shift. Don't expect them to move much more than that to start. You really want to reward the slightest try. If you haven't checked out my most recent "go to place" video, I'll link it here. It might be helpful in showing how I reward very small steps to start: th-cam.com/video/--POIlmAqJ4/w-d-xo.html
I’m late here but having trouble at the very start. My dog isn’t naturally shifting her weight back- she either steps back or just crunches herself down. Tried rewarding for very small movements but am not seeing progress towards her shifting back more. Any ideas?
Love your video but I have a corgi and I think his stubby short legs is holding him back. He can’t get his elbows to the floor and make the bow shape with his back.
Hi Vanessa! I'm so glad you like the video! It's possible that this isn't the right trick for your low-rider. Maybe this one would be a better fit: th-cam.com/video/ghL7Z-0kXgU/w-d-xo.html
It is a great video and I was very excited to try but My dog just doesn’t get this one at all. He has gotten other things like shake in just one or two tries. I push in diagonally towards the ground but it doesn’t get him any closer to shifting his weight or putting elbows down he just uses his head and even paws at the food with his front two paws
Try using your legs up like a bridge and luring him under your legs slightly. You can see it done in my down video for use in a down, but instead you would just reward the head bowing behavior: th-cam.com/video/JZ9qmarlyyA/w-d-xo.html
She said it will take several sessions but my dog did it in seconds. I bowed in front of her and she bowed back to me, I rewarded her with a treat right away and she kept doing it over and over. Also, always make sure you're practicing rollover on a very soft surface.
Wow 👍😮😮
I followed your technique for the “play dead” and I had my 3 month old mini Aussie playing dead by a week and a half. Due to crazy life stuff I haven’t been able to play dead with her for a week and she still remembers. Your tutorials are amazing. Thank you for sharing!

HAHA!
The toss away and the step by step instruction for what the trainer should do is SO helpful. Thanks
So glad you found this helpful Kristin!
I have a 9 month old kelpie pup, Daisy and shes super smart. I had her in the bow position in our first session, after i had 2 mini meltdowns. Can’t wait to keep going and getting her to do it properly. Thank you so much for making this video. I will definitely keep watching your videos.
I am super excited to get started with this trick :D. I am in the SCA and have always wanted to train a dog to bow to our King and Queen :D
Love your technique and kindness to your dog
Aw! Thanks Josephine - this made my day! Thanks for watching!
Where do we get clicker from
@@Influencer7 you can get a clicker anywhere. Amazon has three packs for $5 or $6.

Can't wait to see the rest of the videos, going to pace myself because if I watch too many tricks I won't know which one to do first!! lol..

my 4 month old golden retrievr girl learnt this in no time thanks to your method ❤️ we call it the 'elegant' trick and she looks so so cute doing it 🥳
Loved this, I like you not only show what you want your dog to do but also what the trainer needs to do with their body. This is so much easier than what I was trying to do.

Thanks so much for this. I have long wanted to teach my girl to stretch before she takes off to play hard. She picked up on this in one short session. A few more and I think she'll do it for me on command. Really happy to have the heads-up regarding the lying down pitfall, too. You're such a great teacher!
Thanks so much Lisa! So glad she picked it up quickly! 💜
Thank you for the tip about throwing the food so they don't want to waste the energy laying down!! An invaluable tip

@@DoggyU Yes! We’re getting her later today and I can’t waitttt! I will check our your video!
Thank you!,
I’m so glad you have another way to try! 💜

Hi Raquel! Not sure what you mean by this?
Thank you! Try it out and see how it works out for you. The wonderful thing about trick training is there's lots of ways to teach each trick!
Thanks for this training on a graceful and crowd-pleasing trick.
You're welcome :)

Glad you enjoyed it! I have lots of trick videos if you're looking for some fun things to teach your dog!
DoggyU? I think my dog’s snout is too short. By the way, he is a boxer/ bulldog mix
@@sophic2355 why do you say his snout is too short? Do you mean to train this trick? Snout length shouldn't have an effect on his ability to bow. Maybe take it slower and reward for smaller steps?
I can’t push down diagonally
My dog finally did it! Its so cute
Yayy! congrats!
Love your presentation. If you were my daughter I'd be proud of you

It motivated me to try this again and I will. The way you and your canine partner demonstrated this session was awesome. You explained the dos and don'ts really well.
My dog just steps backward, he doesn't shift. Is there anyway to prevent this?

This can be helpful in teaching the concept to the dog:
Front target: th-cam.com/video/cvg5xe1zyEo/w-d-xo.html
Rear target: th-cam.com/video/_DsAH1JQJ_8/w-d-xo.html
My new pup is hopefully going to be a service dog and I’m going to be using the bow as a way to have her say thank you, cute and fun for her and the people I’m interacting with. eg: someone helps me up when I fall, I thank them, I tell the pup to thank them and they bow
Sounds like a fun trick to teach for that! Love it!

Thanks so much! I want to make sure I’m as hands off as possible when training my dog and this was the perfect method! Thanks Concrete Comrade! So glad you found the video useful!
that's a good trick! i got my first dog its a husky and im very happy with it. i taught all basic obedience in 2 weeks with no experience at all she is amazing.
but what's with the clicker i dont use that i make a sound with my tounge to be able to use both hands..
Nice! Yes, using a tongue click can work great as a reward marker and keep your hands free!
You can learn more about adding cues here: th-cam.com/video/ZyCT17pJJDA/w-d-xo.html
Hope that helps!
Do you have a capture it video for teaching a bow? Thanks!
I don't have one of teaching bow, but I do have a video on how to capture behavior which would be applicable to any behavior that your dog does naturally: th-cam.com/video/mSfD1HLlM9Q/w-d-xo.html

My pup seems to require the invisible treat in order to do the trick. Could you speak a little more on how to transition away from any lure at all?
Hi Aaron - so to transition off a lure you should do two reps with the lure, one rep where you get your "ghost cookie" ie. go into your treat bag, pretend to get the treat but don't, then do the same lure gesture, when the dog does it, click treat. Repeat alternating between cookie and no cookie in hand until the reward comes after the click. Hope that helps!
This is amazing! Thank you so much!

She's a good girlie!
i taught my gsd how to spin in less than 15 min, its insane how quick she learned
It's a team effort! (also dogs are so much smarter than we give them credit for!)
What would be the best treats to use for training.
As for adding cues, I have put a video you might find helpful down below:
Adding a Cue: th-cam.com/video/ZyCT17pJJDA/w-d-xo.html
Can you use this to train them copy you doing yoga? (Downward dog)
You could train this trick, and then transfer the old cue to the new cue of you doing downward dog as the new cue for this behavior. Check out my video on adding a cue to behavior for more info on adding a cue. th-cam.com/video/mwHYFnWY2rg/w-d-xo.html

Okay so I dont have a dog clicker, so could I use a pen that clicks?
I would love it if you would teach us to teach the dog to stretch. It would come in very handy on long plane rides between flights.
(It is her main position, first learned as a puppy)
My brain cannot even process throw the treat before she is down! HELP!
One thing you can do is use two stable platforms and have their front feet on one, and their back feet on another. This makes them less likely to lie down and gives you more chance to throw. Just make sure everything is non-slip and stable.
Also, glad you're enjoying the channel! :)
Thank you! Will give it a try!
my dog holly knows so many tricks that she thinks in order to get a treat, she needs to do a trick. recently ive taught her to play dead with the verbal command “bang” and the physical command of finger guns, so she thinks that whenever I get the treats out she has to play dead. when I tried to get her to learn this, she just sat in front of me so I had to teach her to stand, but whenever I needed her to stand she would roll over and play dead haha! anybody else have this issue?
Not with play dead, but with sitting. My dog automatically sits when treats are pulled out, and I can’t get her to stand up
I loved this vdeio
Thanks Edmond! Be sure to subscribe to the channel for new dog training content! :)

Spin: th-cam.com/video/AEX8WknGkcA/w-d-xo.html

Working on stand is the perfect start! If your dog doesn't stand on cue, they need to learn that first!
If you need extra help with training a stand/stand-stay check out my Patreon. There's a three video series where I show you how I do it: www.patreon.com/posts/stand-stay-1-67422943
Great video. What breed is your dog? She looks so much like mine and I am not sure what he is?
CoolWhip is an Australian Koolie. They are a pretty rare breed in the US (only a few breeders) and are often mistaken for other herding breeds like border collies, aussies and heelers. DNA test sounds like a good choice so you can find out what your pup is! :)
how does the clicker work
Hi Taj - here's a video on how to use a clicker and how it works! :) th-cam.com/video/RYsD9US01js/w-d-xo.html
My dog walks bag with the first step how do I help that???
Hi Zuse! A couple ideas. One, you may be asking too much. We're looking for a tiny weight shift so if they are stepping back, you've missed the weight shift and should click earlier. Another thing that can be helpful is to put them on a pedestal so stepping back isn't an option. Alternatively, you can have them practice with their back end close to a wall so there's no place to step. Hope that helps!
How long did this take for your dog to learn? my dog doesn't move at all.
@@DoggyU Thank you, I'll will try that :)
I’m late here but having trouble at the very start. My dog isn’t naturally shifting her weight back- she either steps back or just crunches herself down. Tried rewarding for very small movements but am not seeing progress towards her shifting back more. Any ideas?
What breed of dog is that? They’re beautiful!
Thank you! CoolWhip is my Australian Koolie. You can see another video of her at 6 months here: th-cam.com/video/zJ-GLUdrXf0/w-d-xo.html
