    Hide and seek is my favorite. If I'm hiding in a cupboard with the door ajar and he walks by looking for me I feel like a kid again and if I'm trying to make a run for a different room and he catches me I laugh like a drain and that gets him even more excited.

    This was a very good video. I wish more pet parents would do this instead of getting mad at their dogs when they chew something up or destroy it out of sheer boredom. It's not the pets fault.

    I thought I was the only one who used empty toilet paper rolls as a cheap toy! I do the same with paper towel and wrapping paper tubes! Boxes are great as well!!! I recently rescued a 5 1/2 year old GSD. She LOVES nose work and now we are going the next step with scent training. Additionally, we are training each other on agility obstacles. Great video you covered a lot of territory! Thank You!

      Thank you so much for your comment, I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed watching it. There are so many creative ways in which we can utilise things we'd normally throw away so that our pups can have some fun. I always say 'what's one man's rubbish, it's another dog's treasure', haha! Scent training is one of the best things you can do with your dog. It doesn't require much to start, you don't have to have a lot of space to practice, but the benefits to a dog are just incredible. Not only they're calmer but they seem happy as well. I'm so glad to hear you're both on the enrichment journey. Your dog couldn't have asked for a better guardian. Best of luck!

      Hi Eileen, I'm sorry to hear that. Do they have constant access to these? If so, they shouldn't. Enrichment toys should only be used during the session and then put away. This way your dog would only engage with the toy in a way it was designed for. Please always supervise your dogs while using any toys. Hope this helps!

    I like scatter feeding idea, but don't use ANYTHING to hide food in that you don't want your dog to chew/tear up tomorrow when he THINKS there might be food there! So, no Amazon boxes for sure! My dogs are crazy about licky mats.

    • @dogslounge
      @dogslounge  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It all depends on the dog and how you train them. Mine never destroyed any of the boxes and we always play that game when there’s a new delivery. Also, a dog’s nose is much more powerful than ours and if there isn’t food in the box, it won’t be interested 😉 But again, the games shown in the video are just ideas and every owner should use only the ones they feel comfortable with as every dog is different. You know your dog best and if you feel like they’d start chewing on cardboard boxes, try having a dedicated plastic box and instead of brown paper, use an old towel or two. Hope it helps! 😊 have you tried the wobbly licki mat?

    Unfortunately my dog will eat cardboard, but not his food!!

    • @dogslounge
      @dogslounge  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’m very sorry to hear this. Every dog is different and so it’s important to work with a dog that’s in front of you. You can still play this game but instead of cardboard or brown paper, put an old towel inside of a plastic box. And as for the food, even though dogs have less taste buds than we do, they rely heavily on their powerful sense of smell. It may be that the food you’re feeding doesn’t appeal to your dog. Have you tried feeding fresh or raw? Or adding some toppers and mixing with the normal food?

      I recommend scent training to everyone as sniffing is what all dogs love doing and because it increases their respiration rate, it tires them out too. There are lots of different courses available (either in person or online, so check out what's available in your area), from total beginners to more advanced. They involve either finding the odour you're working with (gun oil or catnip for example) and pointing at it using their nose or a specific signal (think of police dogs when they find illegal substance on a person) or finding an item that's permeated with the odour and retrieving it back to the handler. These can be done at home or when you're outside and you don't have to have a lot of room to train, which is great. Hope this helps!

      @@dogslounge what exactly is scent training also she is always barking inside the house when people come to visit or when the leave thanks for all your help and tips

    • @dogslounge
      @dogslounge  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Scent training is a sport where a dog needs to locate a particular scent in the environment and communicate with its handler that it found the scent. Think of police dogs detecting explosives (scent). Of course, in home setting we use other scents, like gun or birch oil, catnip, or even Kong (the rubber toy). You familiarise your dog with the odour and then teach it to find it and a command to 'tell you' the scent had been found. There are many videos and articles that you can watch/read and start right away. Alternatively, if you don't feel like you understand the process, you can enrol to scent training classes in your area. Look for things like 'nose work', 'scent training', or 'scent work'.
      German Shepherds were originally bred for herding and guarding sheep, therefore they're sensible to noise and as they're 'working' dogs, they keep doing it, even if they're now family dogs. So if she hears something, she has the need to alert you of a possible danger. I'd recommend contacting a behaviourist in your area that could come over to your house and give you tips on what you can do as this is outside of my scope of expertise. If that's not possible for you, there are plenty of online dog trainers that have videos on barking, so look into that in your spare time. Hope this helps!

      @@dogslounge She's on a raw diet. She's so fussy and just not a good eater. She's refused every so called high end kibble available, although did eat Smack pork if soaked with hot water to make a gravy.. I make her food and she won't even eat the store bought raw. Makes me wonder what's in it.

    • @dogslounge
      @dogslounge  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@baublesanddolls I'm very sorry to hear she's not eating. My pup used to be very fussy and I spent a little fortune on various toppers just so that he could pick it out and leave an expensive kibble in the bowl 😅 But that all changed after switching him to raw. Now, if the dinner is late, he will come upstairs and get me, haha. There are some things you can do to entice your pup to eat. Can you let me know what you've tried already? In the meantime, you can also watch our video explaining how the food's temperature could help fussy eaters (th-cam.com/video/bQSgEnj3EjU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=d0z7y7xBt6rlgpRp). So with raw, obviously, you wouldn't heat it up, but maybe leave it out for an hour so that it warms to room temperature before offering her (some dogs will refuse to eat cold raw straight from the fridge). Another thing you can do is to make a bone broth and offer it with the meal - I make a large batch of bone broth and then freeze it and just defrost it as and when I need it. I add a splash of hot water and add to the meal. You can also buy dehydrated bone broth (just make sure it's for dogs not humans as it won't contain any toxic to dogs ingredients like onions) and just make it before meal time. It's easy to make - just add the broth powder and hot water to the bowl and mix. Hope this helps!
