Wow, 6 hours and 133 tracks (and it also took me 8 months to finish) Here is the biggest video yet! This was a huge nostalgia bomb for me to produce. Especially because I replayed the entire game to record the gameplay. I would have gotten all 201 golden bananas too if it weren't for Beaver Bother. 😅 Hope you all enjoy! Btw, what was your favorite level?
Either Gloomy Galleon for feeling like the first truly open level (as you have all of the Kongs at this point), Fungi Forest for the day/night gimmick, or Creepy Castle, as the levels just get better as you go through the game.
So good! I remember getting all 201 bananas as an 11-year-old - like I just climbed Mt. Everest, lol And props to Rare for putting the arcade, not NES, port of the OG Donkey King in this game. The only real port of the arcade I see available...
Fun fact from DK wiki: "During the battle, a high-pitched, menacing laugh will appear, but it is not made by Mad Jack himself, but rather is part of the music track. Mad Jack's real voice, as well as the aforementioned laugh, were taken from stock tracks recorded by the late Clarence Nash, the original voice of Donald Duck."
They put so much thought in this game, it keeps blowing my mind. I'm doing another playthrough after 15 years and it's crauzy how much variety is in DK64. It's a collectathon, but a very enjoyable one.
Fun fact: The lyrics for chunky Kong “One hell of a guy” were left in because it was determined that “Hell” was not considered a bad word in Great Britain. Because of this, ESRB could not mark the use of the word against it, as it was a cultural issue, not a universal one. Therefore, the game was able to retain its E rating, whilst leaving the use of the word in the song.
I love Creepy Castle! It's uses the OG DK arcade theme in such a creepy way. Genius song! Grant Kirkhope was at his best on this OST, which is saying A LOT.
Oh yeah DEFINITELY my favorite and one i think of all the time. Highkey inspired ALL the creepy songs I’ve made 🔊😈👻 Hope I can get as good as Kirkhope soon!
This is incredible! DK64 was by far my favorite game growing up. Took us forever to beat the old Mario/DK game and get the Nintendo and Rareware coins. So much nostalgia listening through this :')
My most fond memories playing this game was back in the fall of 2002. I still remember being bummed out because I was at home sick and sitting down on the couch and feeling the cool breeze come in through the window and eating pop-tarts and playing this game every day.
absolute massive amount of work put into this. I've been listening to it all day (whenver I'm able to) and I'm not even halfway through. Tyvm for this!
It’s always such a treat when you upload!! THANK YOU Gem Gaming for all your beautiful remasters!! I still listen to your FZERO GX remaster everyday. CHEERS! 🥂
Aside from the time I spent not working on this project for a handful of months, the time spent working is really quite a lot. Aside from the recording (which is 61 gigs of footage!) the most time consuming part is scrubbing through the footage to align it all with the right music. Took many evenings and weekends.
Listened to this while at work and you absolutely killed it! Angry Aztec Lobby and DK Isle are my overall favorite tracks and they sound amazing revamped. Well done sir!
Wow, 8 Months of working on this, with the end result being a 6-hour-plus video?! Holy Banana Slamma, Now THAT's Dedication!!! 🤩 Definitely deserving of My Like, AND going in my "Favorites" too! 👍
Haha, thank you! Really it was only 8 months because I took a huge break to play some games. During the break I was able to play a ton of amazing games. I put something like 120 hours each into Elden Ring and Fallout 4. I completed Sonic Frontiers, A Plague Tale: Innocence, Code Vein (didn't really like it though), Tunic (amazing!) and a handful of other games. I need to do some shorter OSTs next.
Thank you for this treasure trove of awesome that rivals even DK's banana horde! Back in the day, I knew my Dad had just gotten a better-paying job when I saw my Mom slip this into a bag just after a trip to Best Buy - expensive new game with the N64 expansion pack AND the official Nintendo strategy guide all SHORTLY AFTER THE RELEASE DATE (!) (She said, "Shhh, you weren't supposed to see this," haha)
Haha, I remember when I got this game too. When we walked out of the store I was really excited and was swinging the plastic back around that had the game in it. In my youthful idiocy, the bag broke and the game flew through the air and hit our car. No damage to anything, but I was scolded a bit.
*Jaw Drops SIX HOUR-LONG soundtrack for an N64 3D Collectathon Platformer? Grant Kirkhope and team must have worked themselves ragged to produce such a soundtrack.
Just want to say THANK YOU for putting so much into this and all the other videos. Listening to this OST has me all emotional. 😭❤️🙏🙌 This OST is one of the main drivers behind me learning to make music🔊 due to the impact it had on me as a kid. Thanks for giving us a place to come back for some peace in these crazy times.
I did finish the game with all bananas when I was a kid. But that was on original hardware, not an emulated version. The game is easier on original hardware because the expectation of lag was built in. But also Beaver Bother is a huge pain on any version. Lol
My boi prob needs a long vacation after this masterpiece, but I would NOTTTTT complain if he stays on this monkey-theme kick and releases a remaster of Super Monkey Ball 2...That ost if straight fire...
@@GEMGaming_yt I would love to volunteer to play and record it, but I don't have the time to 100% that beast again. Honestly, I would recommend just ripping off a long-play video or just using stills for some of it. It's that Mozart-like mastery in the clean tunes I'm after. TBH, I usually listen while working and don't see much of the video. (Thx again for getting me through those grueling work hours, btw - this, plus your Metroid Prime, and DKC2 are my faves among your masterpieces!)
You missed one song, in "Creepy Castle - Library" you showed the gameplay of the library and the gameplay of the underground prison. However both places happen to have a different music. While very similar they are different (some instruments are changed and we can hear some chain noises in the prison version). I don't know if this is intention but I wanted to mention it anyway. Btw awesome work ! I really enjoyed it !
Dk Isle, Krem Isle, Frantic Factory Production and Compactor Room. My wish of these songs being restored have been fulfilled. Thank you. RareWare, if you see this message, we would love a remake of this game. I think I’ll be Cranky’s age by the time they do it. 😂
This brings back memories of when I got this game for the Wii U. I remember playing through this awful game. Yeeeeah. Banjo Kazooie quality? Nope Mario 64 quality? Nope. Is it ocarina of time and Majoras mask? Hell no.

You accidentally put the wrong timestamp for frantic factory - production, it leads to the middle of the army dillo boss
Thank you! I'll update that later today.

Oooorrrrr, maybe they wanted the players to assume it is Jacks laugh

I got in trouble in elementary school once for parroting that line.
these regional censorshit laws are such a joke. ruining art

Idk why but "Creepy Castle" left a huge impact on me! This entire OST holds a solid place in my heart. Simpler times. :')

That is a really good soundtrack. The hard part of these is finding or making the gameplay content. I've never been able to beat SMB2.

I can't help but wonder who thought the lightning during the army dillo fight was a good idea
There are a lot of questionable choices in this game but it came from another time. Still love it though.
thank you for your hard work i love this video it captures my favorite dk game perfectly
This game and it's OST live rent free in my head 😂
So many memories
I know what I'm listening to at work tomorrow!
Thank you for your contribution and hard work
Got the bass down. Good rendition.
The fact that it takes half an hour to get to the first level’s theme is crazy
A labor of love for sure. 👍
Should "2:46:57 Gloomy Galleon" read "2:46:57 Gloomy Galleon - Shipwreck Shanty" to match the caption on that portion of the video?
Yes, however I shortened some of the track names in the description because there's a 5000 character limit.
