Ashley H I forgot :( I haven't watch higurashi in like 2 years ago :( I'm planning on re-watching it though :p you could search it up on google and you might find it :)
+Sam Geuvenen I looked up what Higurashi no naku koro ni kai (Japanese name for the second season) means on Wikipedia (not the most reliable of sources), and I got "When the Cicadas Cry Solutions". That in all honesty is a fitting title for an ending of a series like this one.
Rose Johnson Indeed. But then, if the series doesn't get renamed when the redub comes out (which will apparently happen), I'm guessing that's what they'll call it.
The character's are very relatable, and since I have been in very similar situations, I get their feelings and their extreme measures, even if I disapprove of their measures.
Did you know that Hinamizawa Syndrome is supposedly resembling Paranoid Schizophrenia? And if you compare the symptoms from both the anime and real life you can kinda see the relation, which is scary...
I read the visual novel right now and yes the characters are so human. Like their psych and actions is so well explained. And you can really imagine yourself beong Keiichi and how it is to come to a new village where you don't know who to trust. Higurashi for me is THE Anime about friendship. It is all about trust and saving your friends and their friendship is tested every time.
So my friend loves and hates _Higurashi: When They Cry._ He absolutely loves it but is terrified of it--he's scared very easily. The theme song especially--he's terrified of it and will legit start to cry in terror sometimes when he hears it. Last Halloween, I babysat for everyone in my neighborhood (something like forty homes, going throughout all the cauldasacks and the center ring). In return, they had to have this song blasting on their outdoor speakers. . . We live on a hill about three hundred feet tall. You could hear "When the Cicadas Cry" (the first opening theme) from the bottom of the hill. Let's just say I think I may have (accidentally) mentally scarred and traumatized my friend for the rest of his life with this prank.
I've seen you talk about this story before on some other vid.. idk, just saying.. but tbh this is one of my favorite openings.. the thing that should really scare your friend is main theme, it's really spooky
The theme song is one of the best in all of horror anime in my opinion. It has a *very* dark undertone to it. Like, honestly whenever you listen, you just start to feel slightly depressed, no matter what. The show itself is easily able to manipulate the viewer's feelings, it is really incredible. And all of the arcs (Besides where Shion just kills all of our other favorite waifus) seem really believable. Like, paranoia is such a common topic in there, it's almost scary all by its own.
MegaGameCore That's it man. I copied the story to a Runescape quest when I was in Middle School. There were, like, 4 other kids in my class that played it at the time, and a couple of them recognized it but never said anything to the teacher.
Honestly, for me the animation style and quality of Higurashi is some of the best. Most of what we get is so flashy and/or exaggerated it's ridiculous. Higurashi, Karin, Lyrical Nanoha, all had amazing animations. Simpler is better, and Higurashi shows this better than anything else.
I think the best part of the visuals for Higurashi is that the style is clean and easy to follow. Rather than clutter every scene with unnecessary detail, they make sure you can clearly tell what's going on in frame and how it relates to everything around it. The only times the visuals get hectic is when everything is going insane, which just adds to the overall effect
Dont you guys hope that we can selectively delete our memory so we can watch the same anime over and over again with the exact amount of enjoyment everytime! Just me?!? Okay;(
Hey good review, in my experience the soundtrack was amazing and I never saw lots of things coming. The characters I thought were good and the way the anime turns from "kawaii" to "shit hitting the fan was quite enjoyable as well. However for anyone watching or attempting to watch this the first season is important but I dropped it around 7 times before I finally powered through it, I didn't like the idea of not knowing what was going on, but after I powered through it and saw the 2nd season I thought that re-trying it was the greatest decision I'd ever made.
I'm just surprised that(SPOILER ALERT PLEASE DONT READ ITS ABOUT THE SECOND SEASON) no one really died throughout the second season and I mean no one(I'm talking about the very end the "happy ending" if you can accept that) like during the gunfight in tunnels or the assault on the hill even the villain didn't really die but hey if you're going to gives us something after the shit we went through during the first season it maintain as well be the best possible ending also Asaka was badass as fuck during that fight where he straight up goes "This is a real punch" and fucks up that guys couch
Joseph Camacho actually *spoiler* they all die in the second season and try again a second time, but with Hanyuu in their group. Rika-chan also gets other involved like Ooishi, picture dude, Dr. Irie, and Asaka. Then the happy ending happens with them all being prepared to take down the blonde woman.
I absolutely adore you, I just found your channel and was expecting some kid with a professional sounding name, who would speak to close to the mic etc. But honestly, your channel and most videos I've found on your channel are amazing, you deserve more subscribers! Also I love the way you wear your hair and the clothing style, a very distinct and unique touch I might add.
I think the art style TOTALLY misleads people into thinking it's a happy anime, so when the killing parts come along, I think it enhances those scenes, since the art style seems so happy.
Honestly, there's nothing you can tell anyone about higurashi without spoiling some of the first-time viewing experience. I've tried. All you can really tell people is that 1) First season is told in arcs, so bear with the resets 2) This show is disturbing in places 3) Lots of people like this show I can't say anything about STOP HERE IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET How the entire show is actually just driven by its storytelling as opposed to the actual plot/premise The first episode is actually Keichi's arc, and a select character is crazy per arc Rika knows Honestly, this show has some of the best storytelling (or pacing, as someone put it), so HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO ADVERTISE IT PROPERLY WITHOUT MENTIONING ITS BEST POINTS AAAAAAAUUUUGH
haha, i feel you. It's really difficult when somebody asks you about things like the arc resets, you can't say why the arcs reset because that already spoils a lot, and the entire show is just full of confusion that you can't clear up without spoiling even more. If you're a fan of the Higurashi anime, you should read the original Sound Novel! The anime is nothing compared to it, trust me, it's 100x better. So is the manga, but nothing does the series justice better then the Sound Novels. The anime leaves so much out.
***** I forget, you're gonna have to give me the episode number so I can check it out. Chances are he definitely killed someone, but one of the "uncles" wasn't actually the uncle. either he killed some random dude on a bike that he thought was the uncle, or he thought the guy on the phone was the uncle.
The dub was horrible and this is coming from someone who loves dub....but who ever voiced Mion/Shion did the best job out of everyone cause she actually putted effort into her performance which is kinda sad considering all the great v.a's that series turned into great ones later on
@@Freewill_Moder "thats with almost every dub" I heavily disagree with that. I feel like a good chunk of the time, the hate for dubs comes down to 'I'm not used to this, so it's bad by default'. There are a lot of great dubs out there and some are even better than the originals. However, there are also some bad ones and the Higurashi dub is definitely one of them.
This anime was so special, that I had to go with special measures with viewing it. I made this computer document named ''The Higurashi diary'' where I pretty much wrote down all of the things that caught my eye within the episodes. It made the viewing longer, for sure, but it really helped me understand the mystery much better. Although all my theories are just that, theories at this time, since I haven't watched the second season yet... Oh boy, let's see how many things I got wrong...
Surprisingly, when I finished the 1st season and saw the second season, most of the things that I had pieced together, like Takano being the villain (She is so fucking creepy, it's really obvious in my opinion she has something else on her mind), and the village being involved in some biological weapon experimentation.
Steven Bauerle ik, he just mentioned how to title the 2nd season which is why I made this comment Oh and as for the 3rd season *When they cried blood* Or... *When they cried the most*
CrashAndConker What does that mean? I read the news somewhere else but I didn't get the point. Are they going to upscale the anime and sell it on blu ray or DVD?
TheConvexDR The series was licensed by an American company again. Senti Filmworks bought the series and hopefully they will give it a better dub and a DVD/blueray release.
There's just one thing you forgot to mention. The show's absolutely AMAZING opening. Like, seriously, I'm pretty sure the only reason I finished watching the first story arc was because of that opening. I did eventually realize that the actual show was fantastic too, but I never got tired of that opening.
Thank you so much. ^_^ You beautifully summarized one of my favorite animes. I'm very impressed with how you did it as well as your mature tone/diction. :) Thank you so much! ^_^
Just wanna point out, the reason it's titled "When They Cry" in English is because that's the Japanese title of the entire series (Higurashi, Kai, Umineko, and Chiru). So yes, officially, Higurashi Kai is indeed titled "When They Cry 2."
This show took me by surprise, its like the writing of lost with better pacing and it gets itself out of the corners it writes itself into. This show is a sleeper. I agree about the animation adding to it, the cicada noises through the story are eerie as fuck as well.
IKR whenever they're searching for Rika and Satoko (I find this hilarious idk why) and Rena called out their names, it was almost like she was getting choked while yelling them
Bruh i watch the new (2020) one before the old one (2006). Even though the artstyle for some would say "improving", but after seeing your review... ...boy i think the old one actually capture the essence of the horror that the creator intended.
I made the mistake of watching it in English the first time. Even then, I found it hugely enjoyable, which speaks volumes about the series itself. It's still my favourite Anime, coming in just above Elfen Lied.
***** Because this IS my favorite. Call it nostalgia, since this is the first anime I watched. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Elfen Lied. But this one holds a special place in that dark part of my head.
I get you. Besides, I think it's clever how they keep it being a double meaning, as "When they cry" can mean "When they speak loudly", as in "The cicada's cry", and it can also mean "when they weep"
As of 2018, the entire series including the second season and ova is available on bluray and DVD thanks to Sentai Filmworks. Thankfully, no dub was ever produced beyond that first season. For streaming options, the first season is available in Hulu and you can stream the entire series on Hidive.
I agree with you that "When They Cry" is a ridiculous translation, especially when it's official that the NAKU in the title does not mean a human sound. Sadly, "When They Cry 2" is apparently what Higurashi Kai is known as. Umineko and Umineko Chiru are known as "When They Cry 3" and "When They Cry 4". DX (The question is, what about Higurashi Rei? Higurashi Kira? Higurashi Kaku?) Hinamizawa is a small village, not a town. I got the chills at the part where you talked about everything being reset at the beginning of each new arc.
I think Higurashi needed an episode to show how everyone reacts to Keichi's dementia like when we see Shions perspective of her rampage. Also Mion is really neglected as a character in this show.
I agree, Keiichi's paranoia in Onikakushi-hen is very misleading, and it would be better to get to see it from everyone elses point of veiw as well. Mion actually did get a lot of character development, considering her feelings were a key element in watangashi-hen and meakshi-hen. Though it wasn't very well done in the anime.
I must be the only person in the universe who found the dub okay at worst. The way Rena shouted "LIAR" hit way harder than whatever they said in Japanese.
I am just happy that as of 2016, seasons 1 and 2 (apparently 3) have all been licensed by Sentai Filmworks and will produce copies! I has been almost 10 years. Worth the long wait.
You are very detailed with your view and you remind me of a youtube channel that makes scientific facts called vsauce. If you watch your video and then go to their channel and watch at least one episode of vsauce then you'll understand what I mean. I also enjoy how you use you whitty banter and your way of explaining the anime the way it should be reviewed. I know why I love to watch reviews especially if there is, in my opinion, true "facts". Thanks so much for giving your opinion!
The Umineko anime may be bad, but the original Visual Novel is DEFINITELY WORTH IT, as long as you use the updated sprites. It's a lot weirder than Higurashi for sure, being more of an allegorical thought-provoking piece than a straightforward mystery, but if you can wrap your head around it it's such a brilliant story that I can't not recommend it.
When you were talking about the animation, I thought about corpse party. The second game, being my favorite, was the perfect mix of cute and horrifying. Some parts are so cute, which makes the horror parts even more extreme. I like that Higurashi isn't very detailed, it's a nice touch.
Mistical Lights You sure? It has gotten pretty positive reviews, many people like it and it's said to be one of the best horror Anime-show out there. And season 2 has gotten more negative thoughts about the lack of horror and gore, and season 2 wasn't as good as season 1.
The Master of Nonsense Whaaaat? A lot from what I seen, a lot of people disliked the series due to the first season. :( But I have seen some negative reviews for the 2nd season. Compared to what I've seen, 2nd season was more likes than the first. Overall, I like both seasons.
Mistical Lights I also like both the too, but I like season 1 more. And I think the main reason for that people dislike season 1 are: - "Too confusing" (Yes, that's some people's reason. Luckily those people are Otakus who only watch some Romantic Slice-Of-Life comedy shows for people with no brain) - Animation quality. - "Too much blood (Yet again reason from Otakus) I think overall story and pacing is a lot better on season 1.
The Master of Nonsense I prefer season 2, but season 1 was really enjoyable for me. And the quality for Higurashi was never bothersome for me. Also, the blood didn't bother me either. Both seasons are very engaging and holds a lot of meaning behind them.
Usually it wouldn't matter much.. But DAMN! This anime is creeping me the FUCK OUT! Surround sound headphones, the music and sound quality was amazing, The sound was PERFECT! Did I mention it's creepy as fuck? But even though I KNEW, the characters were so well played. Just from the beginning and intro episodes this anime is AMAZING! 9/10 for character development, 10/10 for sound, 8/10 for plot! 10/10 RECOMMENDATION TO WATCH THIS ANIME! For me, it ate me up and spit me out, so interesting.
your my first choice when I need info on anime...friend recommended this show, didn't want spoiler so I didn't finish the review, I'm in to almost all anime, would you recommend it?
It's impossible to understand this season of the show without seeing the second. The feeling of stupidity and confusion you feel during this season is a kind of sympathy for the characters' plight, and enlightenment comes with the second. By the time it all became clear, I had new insight into what courage is.
The video's information on streaming this series is out of date. Higurashi is now legally streaming on VRV and HiDive and the whole series can now be bought on Sentai's website.
@@reigenarataka5589 i expect a percentage of the people who watch this video now will see the comment and then go legally watch this amazing series. My prior comment is meant to be informative, not criticism of the video.
Hi there Arkada. I fell in love with Higurashi after the first time watching it! It has become one of my favorite anime and visual novels to date. I definitely agree with every point you make in this review, including that it deserves a better dub. Speaking of, in the near future, I will be hosting a casting call online for a fan dub of the visual novel, and would love to feature your voice in it somewhere. I’ve heard your voice acting ability in many of your review, including this one, as well as other projects on youtube, such as Evangelion Abridged by Gigguk. If you can’t, I completely understand, though I would like at least your opinion on who I choose to play certain characters in the main cast. if you’re interested, feel free to reply letting me know, and maybe we can continue talking about it on Discord or something. I would love to feature you in this project, and hope to hear from you soon! :)

Jakdarkflame ah ok. Ill watch that video. I know his SnK video, had the same thing, being that "if season 2 is made, this SnK gets a 9.44" or something like that. But yeah, glad he gave the whole series of Clannad, a extremely high score. It was a beautiful anime and was just full of happy moments, fun moments, sweet moments, and sad sad, sad moments, but resolve at the very end.
Riki Maru On episode 6 of Kai very very sad, shed a tear at the end of episode 5 but the ending for every episode is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL vocals I have heard in a while.
Not an exact translation either, but they could’ve easily titled it “Cry of the Cicadas” which is much cooler and more fitting lol Swear this anime is like a disowned love child of Brenton Ellis and Clive Barker
***** Oh I agree wholeheartedly. The series itself was not completed when the anime started and finished (still isn't). What we got was basically a "hey read the novel ending and play the games" ending. Oh well. Some shows like Desert Punk had a similar ending, not as many complaints for some reason. Still, I liked Umineko as it was mostly a logic person's show (kind of) with plenty of reasonable explanations for character actions. It just seemed to flow better to me at least.
I'm glad you did this, Higurashi is my favorite anime, even now, every time I hear a cicada cry in any anime, I'm reminded of the deliciously haunting and horrors from this anime.
Corranhorn122 I've been wanting to check out this anime for a long time now. The art style is completely unappealing to me, but there have been many anime in the past that I have loved that had less than cutting edge designs (Madoka, Toradora). Plus, a lot of people praise it to holy hell. And it's so rare that one is able to find an intriguing horror series these days. Have you seen it yet? If so, what are your thought on it? To me, it just seems like something you'd have already seen.
The opening song is amazing. I didn't finish it, cause classes started and I never got back to it, but I saw about 5 episodes, I think. I wasn't terribly impressed. Art is horrible. I was hoping to get back to it to see if things get better. There's some weird time shifting thing going on that I didn't get far enough into the series to figure out.
Apparently it plays out like the visual novel it's based on, in that it actually incorporates every possible "bad" ending of the game into the entire show as the basis of the plot. I think I'll wait until you finish it, if you ever decide to, before I go ahead with it.
Josh Leitzel I absolutely LOVE this series. Its such a masterpiece I cant. You should rly watch the whole thing ( and kai) because without it you wont understand the story in a whole. But dont watch kira. Just...just dont watch kira. Pls.
A couple years I found this video while looking for anime recommendations, all I have to say is I'm so glad I did. This is my favorite anime to date and it's been 3 years since I first watched it
Ok. I know a lot of people already know this, but I think it is highly overshadowed by the original and not enough people know about it. I personally think the second season, " *Higurashi no Naku koro ni Kai* " is worth a watch. It continues from when the last season drops off and answers a lot of questions that were missing in the original and even go into the futures of some of the protagonists. Like I said, I know a lot of people already know this, but there are still so many that don't and no one remembers the second season.
Higurashi and Higurashi Kai DVDs will be available for purchase at Barnes and Noble and on Amazon. The Hgurashi Disc has already comes out, and Kai comes out May 31st!!!! So exicted!!!!! Love this anime! So yeah, great stuff!
Higurashi is one of my favorite animes but one of the things that makes me want to cry is... the anatomy of the character's heads. I'm not sure if anybody else agrees with me, lol.
Well, considering Higurashi is my favorite anime of all time, I'm glad to see that a lot of my opinions were reflected here. I'll have to watch it again, since when I first watched it, I was only around 15 years old and there was a lot that I didn't understand. I also didn't pay a lot of attention to the sound track, since at the time I didn't own a pair of headphones and was weirdly embarrassed about watching anime, so I did so with the sound very low, mostly just paying attention to the subtitles as opposed to the Japanese voices, which I didn't understand anyway. I also thought Umineko was really good, and I plan to re-watch that later too.
The series is returning this June as a reboot. It has a more modernized style and great animation, I’m really looking forward to it. I’m also very shocked that it’s returning.

@@ariv8763 ahhaha lol
What an absolute pussy!
This honestly sounds like a supervillain origin story

Just me?!? Okay;(
nah, your not alone, i feel like Arkada probably feels the same way too
Hey good review, in my experience the soundtrack was amazing and I never saw lots of things coming.
***** Yeah when you finally saw how the story connected together it was worth it.
***** fuck I can't remember that been a while since I've seen it.
I'm just surprised that(SPOILER ALERT PLEASE DONT READ ITS ABOUT THE SECOND SEASON)
no one really died throughout the second season and I mean no one(I'm talking about the very end the "happy ending" if you can accept that) like during the gunfight in tunnels or the assault on the hill even the villain didn't really die but hey if you're going to gives us something after the shit we went through during the first season it maintain as well be the best possible ending also Asaka was badass as fuck during that fight where he straight up goes "This is a real punch" and fucks up that guys couch
Joseph Camacho actually *spoiler* they all die in the second season and try again a second time, but with Hanyuu in their group. Rika-chan also gets other involved like Ooishi, picture dude, Dr. Irie, and Asaka. Then the happy ending happens with them all being prepared to take down the blonde woman.
siebz100 Joseph Camacho Lol, You know, both of you really never spoiled it :3 Since one says they all died and the other says they didn't xD
"And now... THE WEATHER."
DIED. I'M FUCKING DONE. FUCKING ARKADA'S AT IT AGAIN
Title of the second season :when they cry ......even more :p
I don't know....when they cried,their house flooded by tears? :p
;)
That would be misleading, there is way less crying in the second season
I think the art style TOTALLY misleads people into thinking it's a happy anime, so when the killing parts come along, I think it enhances those scenes, since the art style seems so happy.
It's the Moe that people think they're getting. That's what makes it so horrifying.
Honestly, there's nothing you can tell anyone about higurashi without spoiling some of the first-time viewing experience. I've tried.
All you can really tell people is that
1) First season is told in arcs, so bear with the resets
2) This show is disturbing in places
3) Lots of people like this show
I can't say anything about
STOP HERE IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET
How the entire show is actually just driven by its storytelling as opposed to the actual plot/premise
The first episode is actually Keichi's arc, and a select character is crazy per arc
Rika knows
Honestly, this show has some of the best storytelling (or pacing, as someone put it), so HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO ADVERTISE IT PROPERLY WITHOUT MENTIONING ITS BEST POINTS AAAAAAAUUUUGH
haha, i feel you.
You can also say that people are murdered, since that is seen in the first minute so no real spoiler.
***** I forget, you're gonna have to give me the episode number so I can check it out. Chances are he definitely killed someone, but one of the "uncles" wasn't actually the uncle. either he killed some random dude on a bike that he thought was the uncle, or he thought the guy on the phone was the uncle.
*****
What I heard happened was that Mion found out about it and had the body moved so keichi wouldn't get in trouble.
Oscar Manglaras yeah, that's one of the theories that makes the most sense
The dub was horrible and this is coming from someone who loves dub....but who ever voiced Mion/Shion did the best job out of everyone cause she actually putted effort into her performance which is kinda sad considering all the great v.a's that series turned into great ones later on
right, shion and mion were done best. but it dont matter, season 2 is the most important and i liked the little purple main girl. she did good.
I only watched the English Dub for Mion/Shion's VA. She was really good.
The dub was extremely cringy. But I do agree that Mion/Shion sound really good
@Jeremy Grandison thats with almost every dub tho so I don’t really count it against higurashi
+Miruk4 what were your theories?
+Miruk4 Op plz
OP is dead
Sir Foop op got nail removed to death
Surprisingly, when I finished the 1st season and saw the second season, most of the things that I had pieced together, like Takano being the villain (She is so fucking creepy, it's really obvious in my opinion she has something else on her mind), and the village being involved in some biological weapon experimentation.
how would you title the 2nd season of “when they cry”?
*When they cried even more*
There's a third season
Steven Bauerle ik, he just mentioned how to title the 2nd season which is why I made this comment
Oh and as for the 3rd season
*When they cried blood*
Or...
*When they cried the most*
+Kurosora Ryuga When They Cry, When They Cried, When They Balled
Steven Bauerle you mean bailed right? Lol balled.....
+Kurosora Ryuga Pretty much lol
When you see the characters get vertical pupils and start talking quiet you know shit is about to go down.
This just got licensed by senti film works. Not exactly funimation but good enough! It's about time already!
At least it can be viewed legally now. (And maybe get more popularity)
+KidSnivy69 True dat! And get a better dub.
YEEEEESSSSSS
There's just one thing you forgot to mention. The show's absolutely AMAZING opening. Like, seriously, I'm pretty sure the only reason I finished watching the first story arc was because of that opening. I did eventually realize that the actual show was fantastic too, but I never got tired of that opening.
I 100% agree! Probably the best opening I've heard! :D
EVERYBODY LIVES
EVERRRRRRRYYBODY!!!!
That DW reference thou... XD
+Laura Seaweed Are you my mummy?
MrSquidman007 Yes yes I am your mummy!
(Well this is awkward...)
***** No. .-.
It's a reference to Doctor Who.
did anyone else have a crush on shion?
yee
yeshh, i liked her melons
they were nice melons indeed
they were quite fine melons indeed, my jellyfish-y friend
Yeah. She and Mion are hot.
Higurashi no naku koro ni is defenitly my favorite anime
Celesta Baaij Great minds think alike.
Can I join this club? Higurashi for best anime of all time!
Christian Castillo everyone who loves higurashi is welcome! :3
***** okay 👍
+Celesta Baaij (higurashi)(madoka magica) (dbz) and stains gate are my favorites
Oh damn, that finger snapping gag really takes on a whole new meaning after GOU...
Congrats GR, you just opened up the briefcase!
I know he likes a show when he does a custom OP.
Yup
This show took me by surprise, its like the writing of lost with better pacing and it gets itself out of the corners it writes itself into.
This show is a sleeper.
I agree about the animation adding to it, the cicada noises through the story are eerie as fuck as well.
EVERYBODY LIVES!!!!!
Kanefan701 ignore that guy and just watch it, eighter you won't understand it.
they can turn back time...of course everyone lives
I hope someone sends you desserts with sewing needles in it
Eh, eventually... but before that everyone dies. and dies again... and again.
and currently in Australia, people are too afraid to by strawberries due to a few sewing needle incidents.
in the first 20 seconds of this video...
i could already feel the evil and awesome
8:16 10/10 laugh
that laugh gives me chills every time
At 6:24 I have to make a correction. There are no bad endings to the VN, it has no choices and is entirely linear.
There was technically a ds one that had different endings, but yeah, sadly they are completely linear.
Rena's dubbed voice is downright hilarious
IKR whenever they're searching for Rika and Satoko (I find this hilarious idk why) and Rena called out their names, it was almost like she was getting choked while yelling them
@Jeremy Grandison I like it but it’s probably just internal bias from my time with Danganronpa 2
Bruh i watch the new (2020) one before the old one (2006). Even though the artstyle for some would say "improving", but after seeing your review...
...boy i think the old one actually capture the essence of the horror that the creator intended.
8:25 Was that a "Welcom to Nightvale" reference?
YEP!
Dang that nightvale reference fits so much with it's episode 67
+Glass Reflection good job with it really
My favorite podcast ever!
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO GOT IT!
Higurashi is one of my favorite animes. This is an amazing review! When he started laughing along with Shion I was cracking up XD
This guy really likes his literature... Also, it's cool how this was uploaded on Halloween.
8:26 Nightvale reference. Nice.
The part when Reina starts cutting herself and thinking that she had maggots in her body freaked me the fuck out, especialy in the manga
YEAH THAT IS RIGHT WE DONT TAKE NO GHOUL PUSSIES IN HINAMIZAWA
I thought it was awesome I know I'm messed up already but arenas Ark is my favorite out of all of them
I fucking love this anime !!
Honda Sakura I will. Thanks for picking me over Jane.
Honda Sakura That is a really good question....
Honda Sakura A month hasn't passed yet.
I made the mistake of watching it in English the first time. Even then, I found it hugely enjoyable, which speaks volumes about the series itself. It's still my favourite Anime, coming in just above Elfen Lied.
Elfen Lied is your second favourite? But... why?
***** Because this IS my favorite.
Call it nostalgia, since this is the first anime I watched. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Elfen Lied. But this one holds a special place in that dark part of my head.
killerkidzz67 No, you misunderstand. I meant, how can ANYONE put _Elfen Lied_ in their top ten, let alone top 5?
killerkidzz67 He's wondering how you could be fond of Elfein Leid, as it's vapid garbage.
Samflaful Thank you. ^_^
I liked the title: "When They Cry", when I first saw it, it gave me a sense of mystery that allured me to watch it.
Higurashi Kaku?)
Hinamizawa is a small village, not a town.
I got the chills at the part where you talked about everything being reset at the beginning of each new arc.
The animation only really pissed me off at one point in the show. While Shion is stabbing Satoko to death, she gets a derpy face for a while.
When he started talking about their faces my tablet got so scared it started lagging...
Just caught that Welcome to Night Vale reference. Feeling pretty good.
Diiiiiieieieeeeeeee and now weather
Episode 67 and this show
I think Higurashi needed an episode to show how everyone reacts to Keichi's dementia like when we see Shions perspective of her rampage.
Mion is honestly the best character
8:17 this is the best evil laugh I have ever heard
I must be the only person in the universe who found the dub okay at worst.
The way Rena shouted "LIAR" hit way harder than whatever they said in Japanese.
A Doctor Who AND a Welcome to Nightvale reference in a Higurashi review? You SPOIL me friend!
Prime example of don't judge a book by it's cover
Attack on titan/Shingeki no kyojin: That dub is so painful i lasted 10 seconds before going NOPE NOPE I NEED THE BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS OF SUB
Beautiful sounds of sub....
MercilessHatred When the subs cry
P Trudgill Subtitles dont make noises
I got about 5 episodes in and then ended up screaming "WHY DO THE TITANS SOUND LIKE BIRDS?!"
P Trudgill Eren's actor just can't yell in the dub, which you need, because eren yells so much
The intro gave me the chills. I watched this show couple of years ago and forgotten how the intro gave me chills each time.
I absolutely loved this anime and the Visual Novel was just as fun. My favorite girl was Shion
That intro music is EPIC! Right up there the black lagoon intro when it comes to Anime intros.
Why on Earth does masterpieces like Higurashi get so little attention while total trash like Sword Art Online gets way too much of it?
Because they drop the first season. Rip
And also since some people give negative thoughts about the horror & gore genre in the first season.
Mistical Lights
You sure? It has gotten pretty positive reviews, many people like it and it's said to be one of the best horror Anime-show out there.
And season 2 has gotten more negative thoughts about the lack of horror and gore, and season 2 wasn't as good as season 1.
The Master of Nonsense Whaaaat? A lot from what I seen, a lot of people disliked the series due to the first season. :(
But I have seen some negative reviews for the 2nd season. Compared to what I've seen, 2nd season was more likes than the first. Overall, I like both seasons.
Mistical Lights
I also like both the too, but I like season 1 more.
And I think the main reason for that people dislike season 1 are:
- "Too confusing" (Yes, that's some people's reason. Luckily those people are Otakus who only watch some Romantic Slice-Of-Life comedy shows for people with no brain)
- Animation quality.
- "Too much blood (Yet again reason from Otakus)
I think overall story and pacing is a lot better on season 1.
The Master of Nonsense I prefer season 2, but season 1 was really enjoyable for me. And the quality for Higurashi was never bothersome for me. Also, the blood didn't bother me either. Both seasons are very engaging and holds a lot of meaning behind them.
The Welcome to Night Vale reference! :D
That soundtrack still gives me chills. Still my favorite anime.
ScamGames 10/10 in everything for me, Higurashi is my favorite anime of all time :p
This is my favorite anime EVER...EVEEER
About to start watching this, this outa be fun!
make shure you watch everything
SyntheticRemedy You're in for a treat.
well its been like a month...how was it?
your my first choice when I need info on anime...friend recommended this show, didn't want spoiler so I didn't finish the review, I'm in to almost all anime, would you recommend it?
Higurashi makes you think you know what's going on and then makes you feel stupid and confused.
Higurashi is now legally streaming on VRV and HiDive and the whole series can now be bought on Sentai's website.
well yeah... it was uploaded 6 years ago, what do you expect?
@@reigenarataka5589 i expect a percentage of the people who watch this video now will see the comment and then go legally watch this amazing series. My prior comment is meant to be informative, not criticism of the video.
hintofinsanity ahhh i see. my bad, i misunderstood your comment haha.
Omg you'r laugh sound hust a little bit like Light Yagami
This is 6 years late… but was that a Nightvale reference…

ah ok.
Out of curiosity Arkada, do you dress like an admiral to pick up chicks who wear sailor uniforms? I could actually see that working
Holy sweet jebus i'm on episode 8 and the second arc just ended... HOLY SHIZT. Why would you do that to people over a doll o_o
5:53 YES, yes it does...
I'm on 16 and after the thing happened with the gas and everything apparently was related in one way my brain started to turn to mush.
Riki Maru On episode 6 of Kai very very sad, shed a tear at the end of episode 5 but the ending for every episode is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL vocals I have heard in a while.
So if you watched kira....your Brain killed itself didnt it :3
12:40 I like the slow Funimation fade in. Man, Funimation dubbing this show would be a dream come true.
Not an exact translation either, but they could’ve easily titled it “Cry of the Cicadas” which is much cooler and more fitting lol
Swear this anime is like a disowned love child of Brenton Ellis and Clive Barker
Umineko is a better mystery while Higurashi is a better horror story. Pending on which genre you like more...
I'd say they're at equal levels of mystery awesome. x3
UberWaffle95
Getting through the first season of Higurashi felt like a chore, when I breezed through Umineko.
*****
Oh I agree wholeheartedly.
08:26 welcome to nightvale reference.
Someone noticed
...Immediately after a Death Note reference.
Glad I'm not the only one who sees it!
I'm glad you did this, Higurashi is my favorite anime, even now, every time I hear a cicada cry in any anime, I'm reminded of the deliciously haunting and horrors from this anime.
8:26 WAS THAT A WELCOME TO NIGHTVALE REFERENCE
+katie daniels YES!!!
I HOPE SO.
Ayyyy you got that too!!!
Fuk yeah IT WAS
I got it!
...I understood that reference.
I think I'll wait until you finish it, if you ever decide to, before I go ahead with it.
sure thing!
Josh Leitzel I absolutely LOVE this series. Its such a masterpiece I cant. You should rly watch the whole thing ( and kai) because without it you wont understand the story in a whole. But dont watch kira. Just...just dont watch kira. Pls.
I wasn't even aware that there was a second season before watching this review. But what is kira? Is that a third season or what?
One of the best animus ever.
It"s like one of shows where I wished I could erase it from my head and rewatch it again
watch the other seasons
Both seasons have been licensed by Sentai Filmworks by now, in case anyone was wondering.
Season 1, 2, and Rei OVAs are now licensed by Sentai Filmworks.
Higurashi motivational posters: Whatever kills you makes you stronger.
It's been a long time since the last review of yours I watched and you're still amazing.
......... 08:25, you may think no one got that reference, but you would be wrong. ALL HAIL THE GLOW CLOUD.
holy shit that evil laugh XD
The series is returning this June as a reboot. It has a more modernized style and great animation, I’m really looking forward to it. I’m also very shocked that it’s returning.
Corona put it on hold.
That one weird kid who's obsessed with Rome. True lol
