When casting spells, the sigil of the type of magic being used shows up... and for some reason, I can't remember anyone I've seen actually talk about the one that shows up with ghostflame! It looks like the Cursemark of Death.... like one of the halves, but attached to a full circle. Which... would mean it's associated with either ONLY the death of the body, or only the death of the soul.
If I had to guess, since ghostflame is used by deathbirds, it's probably meant to burn away the body, while they collect the soul for the afterlife...or... something...
the full circle thing lends some credence to Crunchy's theory from his Godefroy video.
Your question about what Gold means in this game would take a full course lecture to explain in full lol.
Short hand is that Gold is related to Divinity, to life. Elden Ring is heavily based on Alchemy and the concept of the Magnum Opus which is often represented by two beings, The Red King and White Queen(Radagon and Marika) joining together into one body to create the Divine Rebis/Philosopher's Stone/Gold. Rather than this being an outright and unequivocal good thing, the game twists the concept in SEVERAL different ways by shining a light on Religious and Cultural Dogmas and forcing the player to question whether the pursuit of divinity is really a good idea at all. At least in the ways presented in the game and DLC.
Vaati's videos are great for the baseline understanding of the game's lore and story, but you really need to expand your viewing to get a deeper understanding of the REALLY interesting themes and inspirations the game is hinting at.
@@ATC43 the alchemical process is clearly a clarification to the whole "Radagon is Marika" situation, the separation of the prima materia into its opposing qualities and putting it back together to harness both characteristics into a singular entity, Radagon has always been Marika and yet he became her at some point, the same seems to apply to Miquella/Trina but in their case it's still in the middle of the process and Miquella doesn't seem to want to complete it to remain unalloyed gold
