The Tragedy of Lossy Audio Encoding

Use lossless audio codecs like FLAC.
Actually I was totally mistaken, 96khz 24 bit is totally unnecessary. 44.1khz 16bit "CD quality" really is as much quality as is needed. So CD s really were the pinnacle of mainstream audio formats afterall.
In any case this speech was not about whether 96khz 24bit is superior to 44.1khz 16bit, really this speech was only about lossy encoding versus lossless endocing. And I do stand by what I said about lossy encoding being bad.
Lossy encoding sucks, lossless is superior always.

Sorry gang I was mistaken when I said that CD s are not good enough quality, that there should be some mainstream 96khz 24bit format, that is as it turns out totally unnecessary.
I know there is a controvercy regarding the need for higher samplerates and bit-depth, but I am convinced that the higher numbers are not necessary, what I said was based on ignorance.
So CD quality it is then. We need to get back to CD quality, because lossy encoding is really bad. CD is as high as it needs to be to reach the limits of human hearing capabilities. 44.1khz 16bit "CD quality" is good.
