    Had a very controlling (older) BF in high school, I was miserable and it became my norm. While away on a senior trip to an amusement park, my friends commented how happy and relaxed I was, like the old me. It took friends I've had since elementary school to point out the obvious. I dumped him the following day. Gave his prom ticket to my best friend and went stag to my prom, loved it!!

      I agree. I would also add a similar concept with a pet. I had a dog when I started dating a narcissist. He hated my dog, who was the love and the center of my life, and he didn’t want my dog around when we were together. He even said one day, “I think you love your dog more than you love me”. I saw the red flag because of his twisted jealousy over a tiny dog. So I said, “of course I love my dog more than you. She gives me her unconditional love and never criticizes what I’m wearing or anything else, and she just wants to always be with me to give me her love and make me happy”. I eventually dumped him. Like the old saying goes: “Love me, love my dog”. And if my dog obviously didn’t like a guy, or if she ran away from him, or acted nervous around him, or, especially, if she growled at him, I would immediately turn down any further date with the guy. Dogs can tell when a guy is bad news, and I always took her advice.

      I used to do things on purpose to get myself sick because he treated me differently it was so strange if I was already sick I would eat something that I know I shouldn't and my thought was well at least this way he'll leave me alone my happiest memories where when I got sick and it was just me and my mom she would take care of me or I when it was really late at night and we would watch the Grinch movie together at least for a little while my mom and I could have a moment of peace and happiness and not have to worry about him he would either go into his room to smoke a cigarette or play video games I later learned that he had a problem with drinking he would often be out cold for hours nothing would wake him up I would share more but I'll probably end up crying everyone told me that I'm okay he's not around anymore even so that stuff sticks with you I figured that by sharing what happened to me it wouldn't feel so scary anymore I'm so relieved that I got taken seriously everyone in my family now sees him in a different light that's karma in itself I used to think that if I had gotten my revenge on him somehow the pain would finally go away turns out I didn't need to do anything karma had my back

    I had a very controlling and emotionally @busive religious stepdad my Mom and I had to put up with for 4-5 years, he was a very heartless jerk, he didn't care if he offended anyone, he was never accepting either. There is a list of the things he's done and said, but I can't put everything here unfortunately (maybe some day, I'll share my story).

    Red Flags in my Ex:
    - If he asks for nudes first day of the relationship (yes this happened and it typically shows they only want your body, not you. I gaslit myself into thinking he would stop).
    - If he continues asking for them after you say no for multiple times, leave. He obviously won't take no for an answer.

    Ok, this is a major red flag I have with men/boys: the inability to do common things like cook/clean/help out. Like I don't want to do your laundry ever weekend or cook a new meal for you after a long day at work. You should be able to do that at a young age!

    Had a coworker who’s BF did The Who waiting outside for her the entire shift too. Asked her about it in the women’s bathroom before the store opened to make sure she was okay and she wouldn’t be pressed to answer how he would want her to. She explained that she had a stalker and he was there to keep her safe. We went to HR and security and made sure that her stalker wasn’t allowed on the company grounds. On the plus side the police would come in to shop at least 3 times a day.

    when a new guy comes into your ex best friend life while she's in a relationship and this new guy decides to kiss her, not once, but twice. Then she breaks up with her ex bf and gets with the new guy easily, and everyone around her, including me tells her its a red flag from the beginning and the new guy tells her its not a rebound.
    As a result, she rather ignore the red flags of this new guy and continues to stay there while he keeps playing with her and she's losing everyone around her for lying of her ex boyfriend being a bad boyfriend

    We’re muslims so we don’t do dating before marriage, but we do go through.. a courtship stage ig you can call it?
    When my sister was about to get married she told her soon to be husband this:
    “I only have one thing that is a huge red line, you cross it, and it’s over, I don’t care if we even have 10+ kids; no disrespect. no calling names no saying things either of us will regret after”
    She said ever since then, whenever they get into a fight and her husband seems like he is so pissed off that he might say sth disrespectful, he takes himself out of the room/house until he calms down, same for her she leaves whenever she’s so angry that she’s about to say sth she’ll regret. And Alhamdulillah their marriage is going well since.
    She also said what helped her is my mother’s advice, my mum told her just last the first year, if the marriage lasts a year without major problems, then all will be fine after.

    • @autisticdancer
      @autisticdancer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That’s actually seems like pretty good relationship advice, cool yourself down before you say something to the person you love that you will regret later. Then talk it out calmly later. Wish my parents learned how to do this. 😔

    • @soya9287
      @soya9287 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@autisticdancer this is also similar to the advice the prophet pbuh gave us, which is that if you are angry while you are standing up, sit down, if that does not calm you (or you were sitting down), lie down. Basically changing from a position where one is ready to fight and is charged up (standing), to a more calming/relaxing/comfortable position.
      There is another hadith (sayings/actions recorded of the prophet) that he adviced a man who sought his advice, he told him don’t get angry, and he repeated it again and again (anger is a normal/natural emotion, the point is not that he is not allowed to get angry, but it is so he remembers and reminds himself whenever he starts feeling angry, in the footnoot of this hadith the narrator said the prophet used to advice people based on their personality, hence the man who asked for his advice might have been someone who gets angry often/his anger takes over him).
      In the quran there is also .. high regard(?).. for people who swallow their anger, because anger is never really good and never bears any good, it only leaves regret, the prophet said the person who swallows their anger is promised a paradise with the width of the heavens and earth.
      All those advice really help me whenever I get angry and remember them 😔🤌🤍

I overlooked this because in my mind it was like "Who cares?", he was "only" making jokes at my expense (never even thought about it until now because as far as I know I was the only autistic person he did that around but now I realise it he was also joking at the expense of every autistic person on the planet). If he can't trust himself to choose the right girl, then how can he trust the girl to not cheat...or run away? 'Run away' is more likely the concern; he doesn't trust HER out of his sight.

    TW. Mention of self harm//su!cide attempts. -
    My ex would always tell me they’d either kill their self, hurt themself, or full on show me their scars or recent cuts. It would make me uncomfortable and think of things (as I was just getting better. Because of school, family and friends, had to help throughout it all.), but after a while, I started getting distant because the constant talk of them self harming, or even thinking about killing theirself just killed me. We didn’t even talk normally. It was ALWAYS about that. i couldnt do a damn thing to stop them. It was always about them as well. If I were to try to talk about my problems the first thing they’d say is either, “ok but I have my own problems? I can’t always be there for you”. Yet I was always with them when they needed me. I understand they needed more from me, but I couldn’t handle it because I also had problems as well. and the thought of losing them.. it just never.. sit right with me. Plus, I think they lied about it a few times. They said they overdosed, but then texted me like three hours later saying “he’s fine. he’s going home now”. like..? the gut feeling of him lying just made it so much worse to the point where, I found someone new in the relationship and ended up breaking off with him. he got so upset and ended up trying to do it again?- I don’t know. It seemed so.. off.. and it didn’t seem like his “attempts” were real. :/..

    Hello Ellen I think if you have a partner and use both go to work during the day you should leave with a smile and come home with a smile knowing that you don't have to check up on your partner or be paranoid about what's happening or where they are but be extra extra excited at the end of the day knowing you are going home to hug your partner and enjoy the evening in peace and laughter together but yes this of course isant all-day the. Case . That KFC story blew my mind. Wtf omg. That crazy creepy. The person must have grey hairs many more years early than they should stress . Have a great weekend Ellen and every one. Bye
