I used to think my ex was the hottest thing under the sun. started treating me like s*** wouldn't let me have friends wouldn't let my sister's come over,trapped me in the house. Secluded me. He became the ugliest person in the world to me. He shattered his own beauty.
The reason for “being the sole source of joy” is because they are either obsessed with their partner or, on the opposite end, don’t like, care for, or love in the slightest. With the former reason, being the sole source of joy makes them feel loved and special. With the latter, it’s so they can better manipulate them and hurt them more when they dump the person.
It's literally a form of narcissism too
I also feel like it’s somehow been romanticised in the internet/in movies because I once got into a relationship where I was his sole source of joy and at first it felt good because I felt like I was in a movie like setting but after a while it was total hell for me like I cannot be there for them 24/7 bc I want to have my own hobbies and some alone time but if I wasn’t talking to him he’d feel kinda sad bc he didn’t have anything to do and it make breaking up with him hella hard bc I knew he’d lose his sole source of joy… so yeah I’d never want to do that again
I feel like HE was kinda obsessed with me bc of the only source of joy thing and suddenly I lost all of my time and had to tip toe around him to not make him sad :/

8:50 is so sad. My current boyfriend had that kind of relationship with his ex-girlfriend (she was also his first long term relationship) and he was so confused about me wanting to split it if we for example ordered food etc or if I wanted to buy him stuff. I remember one time when he was feeling sad one day early on in our relationship so I bought him some chocolates to cheer him up, that small amount of effort almost made him cry. It really broke my heart when I realised she never made him feel like he deserved any effort and that she deserved the world and that he had just accepted it because of the norms of society that guys don't need any type of affection smh. His relationship with his ex was pretty toxic in many ways but this was one of the more obv things she did and it had way more impact then people realise. We have been dating for over a year now and he is still recovering from that relationship and still have a hard time accepting that he deserves to be treated to things as well sometimes and that he deserves someone who treats him well and shows him affection.
I wish you two a nice relationship!

The first one describes my toxic ex-friend from HS. Except it wasn’t *exactly* like that. It was worse. She would use every other guy she dated just to get back at her ex (whom she had an on and off relationship with, and broke up and got back together 7 or 8 times) so he would get “jealous” and he would “try to get her back”. This went on for 2.5 years and I’m so glad I dropped her sorry ass.
Damn I feel drained and depressed after hanging out with this one friend. That's a red flag? I mean she's always been kinda abusive, but I never had the confidence to break it off, especially bc she guilt trips me a lot. Her family also has a bunch of issues with mental illness and suicide attempts so I don't want her to... ya know. I care about her, I can't help it. And she's only ever an asshole part of the time.
I can definitely relate to this. I just don't like hanging around people. It drains me so much of my energy.
it's not ur job to make them happy tbh....like I get it, I was there...but if they bring down ur mental health, u need to realise that your mental health is more important rn...don't necessarily cut them out completely...just limit contact to what ur comfortable with..if they are not happy, it is they problem cuz at the end its ur life, ur mental health, not theirs.
My mom was in a similar situation when she was younger. She was in a toxic relationship with a man who always told her he would kill himself if she left him. It worked to keep her with him many times. But eventually, mom decided it wasn't her responsibility and she couldn't keep the relationship(He was bluffing by the way, still should get help though). My mom told me that if I'm ever put in a similar situation that I am not responsible for their actions, and I would like to say the same to you. Of course you could provide your friend with help lines if you feel it necessary. But please don't force yourself to be in a friendship that hurts you because you care for them. Or maybe you can set some boundary's so you don't completely cut them off. A therapist on TH-cam says "It doesn't matter what they are at their best, It matters what they are like at their worst."

I just cut it off with a friend who I really enjoyed spending time with at first. We were friends in elementary school (probably because we’re both very artistic but I don’t remember), but she went to another school in 3rd grade. She just came to my highschool this year and we recognized each other and started hanging out again. We had lots of fun drawing with each other and talking about our personal experiences. Later on, she started to be aggressive with me and it drained my energy to the point where I hated to see her walk into my 7th bell class. I kind of ignored how she treated me because I genuinely wanted to be her friend again. Then she told me she also tried to commit suicide once (she had depression because she’s partially blind) and I tried to comfort her because I had similar experiences. HOWEVER, a couple of weeks later she started body shaming me (telling me my butt is flat, I have a double chin, my hair looks bad, etc.) and talking about how badly I dressed. She would also brag about how thick she is and TWERK on me while doing so, she actually tried to touch my hair and I ended up wrestling her just so she wouldn’t, and she hit my chest and call me flat-chested. I remained calm until she told me that I was white because I’m lightskin and “not thick”. I just had to cut her off. I told her on discord that I’m blocking her, I unfollowed her on Instagram, and I’m unsubscribing from her TH-cam. As of now, we don’t talk to each other at all. I feel better knowing that I don’t have someone bother me every-time I go to class.
You just have to take a risk to better yourself! Maybe she’ll understand that you really cared for her and that’s not how you treat someone that cares for you. Maybe you breaking it off with her would be better for the both of you. You get to be better mentally, and she’ll learn how to control herself. 👍🏽
@@hiimaly4780 Thanks for the advice. I'm still waiting for the right time, and sometimes the abuse doesn't feel valid because "it's just a joke" and she would probably gaslight me anyway. She used to punch me in the arm super hard that i flinch whenever she raises her hand. she almost stabbed my face with a sharp piece of plastic (a broken hanger) and luckily i blocked my face but I had a scar on my hand for a month or two. She gives me mixed feelings about whether she actually likes being my friend. She always asks to hang out and when I don't want to bc she's an asshole (i don't tell her that) she guilt trips me, but then she tells me to kill myself a day before. I'm thinking of talking to my councilor I see about her, but it's hard to say this stuff out loud. A family member recently got out of a mental hospital for attempting suicide, and I know that if i break it off with her and she ends up killing herself, I would blame myself. I really do care about her, and she's fun to be around a lot of the time, but it's just sour when she does this stuff to me. I'm sorry for trauma dumping in a youtube comment section, but it really feels good to finally get this stuff out of my head. Thank you so much, and thanks for telling me your own story. Or when she dates you to fix you. My ex best friends current boyfriend she's "working on" because he's homophobic. (She's bisexual and keeping it a secret from him) I'm not saying it's good to be homophobic but it's such a waste of time for both of them.
I know someone who dated a man to try and help him with his drug addiction even tho he was crazy. Not abusive but kinda crazy.
It is a waste and usually doesn't work. I didn't date my ex to fix him, to say, but I ended up coming out to him and he was STILL homophobic afterwards. Worst relationship I've ever been in and it took me years to get out of it because I just didn't know how. He also made me go back into the closet because I felt so ashamed with myself (I was already struggling with it plus my faith and he made things worse because I considered him to be the closest person to me in my life)
Even if she would change him, she still lies to him about yourself from the beginning.
Idk what it means to "let other guys flirt with you". My @bu$!ve ex always accused me of this when I was scared of the guy who was talking to me. A lot of men get extremely angry when they get rejected so I wanted to avoid that but they weren't getting the hint
A lot of people get mad they get rejected. Letting guys flirt with you is just that. Letting them flirt with you.
While my parents were alive I used to be with someone that would phone me at about five minutes into the journey to see my parents when I used to go over on a weekend. My parents lived in the next town and as I can't drive and don't have a car anyway I would use public transport to get there so it would take a good couple of hours. This partner would regularly call me to ask when I would be back and my stock answer was "I'm not even there yet!" The partner I'm with now sometimes says "if you'll let me" if he's wanting to go somewhere without me. My answer to that is "I've never told you you can't". I'm not his keeper and it's not up to me what he does in his time away from me just as long as it's not messing with anyone else because I'd never do that to him.
This can apply to friends too, I think 🤔
These aren't just for romantic relationships.
I feel like the best way to get into a relationship is to befriend the person of interest before dating so that you can learn if they'll be a good partner. I haven't been in a relationship before but I hope this helps

The only time when I've ever tried to change my boyfriend was when I had one who would overeat due to stress, then would get stressed about gaining weight and eat even more. I tried to change this by helping him find healthier methods to cope, though I don't think I helped much. He saw that I would always pick at my nails when I'm stressed, so he started doing that in place of stress eating. It made him feel much happier after replacing his other bad habit, but now he just has a different bad habit that'll be hard to get rid of. I'm glad I've helped him at least a bit, though- fingernails will grow back quickly, but weight is hard to get rid of. Some clarification: I never minded his weight, but since it stressed him out, I supported him in his attempts to lose it and also get rid of his bad habits.

6:38 My dad does that. I read many books and because of that I have a bit of an "advanced" way of talking. Like, I use words that aren’t often used by others. He doesn’t like the way I talk because it’s not "normal".
He also tells me to change my hairstyle on numerous occasions even though my current hairstyle is nothing out of the ordinary. Because of that I feel really insecure when he’s around and don’t talk much.

It depends a bit on my dad's mood on a specific day. If it’s a good day he doesn’t say anything but if he’s in a bad mood he criticizes pretty much everyone. I’m used to it at this point.
One night at the first job I had at an ice cream shop, This customer was anout to order for the guy she was with, possibly her boyfriend, and she was getting impatient with him really quickly. While she was standing by the counter and he 3wqas sitting at the table nearby, she said "Order, right now!" angrily.

I had a boyfriend once, we got along great and had lots of fun. It was long distance and we spend the entire night playing Overwatch together. After not even 6 months he visited me in my country and then things got bad. He wanted me to learn french, I hated french, wanted me to not be a cleaner, I am happy as a professional cleaner with a degree :3, and tried to get me into sports and to not go to Australia to live there, and all those things. He knew all these things before he went here and before he visited he expressed concerns if it was "worth it" if we didn't stay together in the end.
Dude... That we didn't stay tohether is your fault :D I told you everything! So yeah... Still don't know french, never got into sports and am a cleaner doing night shifts. If you want a french speaking woman, that is into sports and is not a cleaner than try your luck in a gym in france!
6:45 Yeah, I think the only two situations that this wouldn't be a red flag are
1. She's trying to get you out of a bad habit that's harming you, because she loves you.
2. You're an actor playing a part and she just happens to be the director. This one isn't likely, but maybe lol.

Then she hides the kisses of this new guy gave her while she was in a relationship from her boyfriend and continue to lie to her ex boyfriend for awhile until she blame him for many things that she was being a hypocrite in many ways. Then breaks up with him while giving him hope which then her ex boyfriend finds out she got with the guy who she told her ex boyfriend she shouldn't worry about from the beginning.
Idk what to say since I'm still single, but if I could just get someone to react to my She-Stooges cartoons, I'd love to know if any of their relationships are red flags.
